The koreans were pissed at kespa, too. I think that's the reason they gave in, not us.

No, MBC (the TV channel) became a Music/Music Videos channel.

Considering the days of "GOMTV Classic", the decision by Kespa to not participate in GSL is not a simple issue and we are afraid that it might recur in the future considering the situation. GOMTV provided Kespa players with various accommodations regarding the schedule and application process and yet the decision by Kespa seems to spoil the partnership between E-sports Federation and Kespa. LOL in sc1 This is SC2 and GSL runs shit over here!!! The only reason people watched OSL are because of the GOM-Kespa rivalry...... Only because we wanted to see how BW pros would addapt to the new game!!! I could care less about who is in OSL if I dont know 1 single player! and at this point in time stil far behind GSL players im not talking about the couple few that can hang with them But overall leaugue skill Try to guess how many loyalist Korean fans watch the OSL. You might be surprised. Mind linking the demands that gom made? Also, I'd imagine gom to be closer to kespa since it's owned by cj iirc.

No. MBC decided that it'd be more profitable if they turned into a K-Pop TV and closed shop.

Too bad, The Kespa v/s GOM games had rekindled my interest for SC2. It was fun to see the GOM babies getting all nervous when playing Kespa pros. Did they got cold feet or what? Running two leagues in South Korea is suicidal when the market is shrinking, and foreign money will not be sufficient, i fear, to sustain GOM all by itself.
Wouldn't it be fun if Kespa tried to buy Tastosis contract? Really, if i wished to kill GomTV, that's what i would do.
|
its a pretty simple solution. kespa should just play in the qualifiers. everybodys happy, the end. im glad gom is standing up for themselves this time. i remember the gom classic in bw and i was so mad when kespa pulled out thier players. i mean it was a nice tournament with english commentary for bw which kespa didnt have at the time.

I never said we Foreigners were the reason that they buckled, the poster above me said they don't give a shit about GOM internet, wich is simply not true, they want foreigners to watch there players very much.

So basicly ESF is KESPA for sc2. Taking decisions without asking players ?
Or is it something that ESF's players asked ?
That a "sad" news. But still cool.

They ARE the players, read the thread for once in your life.. Christ.

I'm pretty sure ESF has asked its players about it. It has Nestea signature at the bottom if you haven't checked it.

yaaay, it all seems fine and dandy... but i wouldnt be surprised if kespa players are not allowed to join gsl season 5... kespa just seems so vile and sneaky...
if i were ESF i would also let my players join OSL... next season!

Yesterday, we received a statement from Kespa that the players will not participate in GSL season. This was a shocking and disappointing news to us. We want to express our apology on the breach in partnership between Kespa and Esports Federation and on Kespa's decisions. GOMTV devoted great amount of effort to succesfully globalize Korean E-sports ever since the release of Starcraft II 2 years ago. Thanks to this, "E-sports Federation" was assembled to work side-by-side with GOMTV in the hope to carry Korean E-sports a step forward. One of the reasons that Kespa will not participate in GSL was that there is a conflict in scheduling of the players. This is pretty hard to accept as GOMTV was able to accommodate many schedule conflicts without any problem for the past 2 years and this was also the case for Kespa players who participated in WCS and WCG. E-Sports Federation does not want GSL to be removed from Korean E-sports and if it does, the effect of E-sports Federation players to the global E-sports will decrease for certain. We think that it is mandatory for Kespa to work with us and show great games to our viewers. As such, we have contacted teams of E-sports Federation (Startale, LG-IM, Prime, MVP, NSH, TSL, FXO) regarding the players who are participating in OSL (Nestea, MVP, DRG, MKP, Parting, San) to make the following decision:For the better future of Korean E-sports, we politely ask Kespa players to participate in GSL and until Kespa decides to allow their players to join GSL without any problem, we have decided to pull our players from OSL. It is also difficult for us to make such harsh decisions but we think it is necessary to appeal the dignity of GOMTV and E-sports Federation. Once again, we are truly apologetic regarding such news and we hope that Kespa would cooperate so that we can show amazing games to all of you. Thanks E-sports Federation Player representative Jae Deok "Nestea" IM E-sports Federation President Won Jong Wook source http://www.thisisgame.com/board/view.php?category=13438&id=1273735 What a bunch of hogwash, they wanted to popularise SC2 in the foreign scene by collecting $50 from every viewer, and now they feel that it's mandatory for KeSPA players to participate in their leagues? Someone sounds a bit desperate here. So drg and nestea et al. want to charge 50$ from viewers? Don't you guys remember when GSL was just starting way back when? They just said $30 to view live, extra $20 for vods. We have a low-quality free stream thanks to community backlash, but the fact that they did this remains. Basically, GOM doesn't want to lose their foreign cash-cow, while OGN by and large doesn't give a fuck. They continue to operate on commercial money and such, while providing a "free" product. Cue GOM getting mad at OGN/KeSPA for trying to corner the market. It's a normal power struggle, and everyone knows it, it's just that the GOM representatives' statements are... well, nevermind that. I'm just going to see how this pans out, but KeSPA/OGN traditionally have the upper hand in those things. The irony of that last sentence is amazing. Care to point out what part of what I said is wrong? That gom didn't make the demands in the first place, that esf is a seperate entity to gom. Oh, but GOM did make those demands right off the bat. And ESF is related to GOM as KeSPA is to OGN. It's not like GOM and KeSPA haven't had their altercations in the past, and such. Also, I'd imagine gom to be closer to kespa since it's owned by cj iirc. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=6190385Just read down the thread. It eventually got changed, cause a lot of people got angry, but come on. Did OGN bully MSL out of the market?? Would this happen to GOM?? No. MBC decided that it'd be more profitable if they turned into a K-Pop TV and closed shop. I thought you were talking about demands that gom made to kespa when the transition happened, but yes the pricing sucks/sucked.

This is pretty crazy..
Let's hope, for everyone's sake, that this is solved quickly and ends well.
Edit: Just saw the link posted above. Kespa has backed down. I hope it stays this way.

Most people here is a "foreigner", yet there are many people who is rooting for KeSPA when they obviously don't give a flying fuck about you, but money (it's a company, nothing wrong with that). I just want to watch good matches, and the best is the improvement BW players vs GSL players. If KeSPA wants to monopolyze that, fuck them. I am happy ESF standed up against that bullshit.

I read it... I just did not understood it really well. No need to be so aggressive... Not everyone is fluent in english... Nestea was marked as representative. I don't know if it's mean all the player agreed...

I can answer this one because they have more control over the Korean market. Like the other guy said they have network television.
