Because KeSPA decision was tremendously moral.

Seriously.......

Did you even read what i wrote?

Yes, he is implying that you can pull unmoral stuff on a party which did the same before without losing the moral high ground.
That's at least his personal opinion.

Exactly. I think you can't judge the decision itself without comparing wich what caused it. I don't like it personnally, because if it means the end of this OSL, then it's extremely sad for both parties players and fans overall...

But then, when someone shoot you with a gun, are you gonna just reply by asking them gently to stop ? Some pull a gun and shoot back...

TBH with the amount of GOM tournaments going on I'm not surprised both sides couldn't come to an agreement.

GOM would have to completely change their format in order to reach MSL levels of broadcasting hours.

Considering a large portion of MLG players come from ESF/GOM I don't think MLG is stupid enough to follow through where Kespa won't, nor do they have to legally unless they have some sort of binding contract. People forget that KeSPA was founded in 2000 after the approval of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism thus making it a government organization by definition.

Even if MLG does have a contract with KeSPA I still doubt that they would alienate GSL players because they make up the majority of the scene.

Here is the translation. Hope I'm not too late It was pretty hard to translate as the response from ESF was really formal and serious.

From ESF//

First of all, on behalf of E-sports federation, we are truly sad about what happened to KT's Woo Jeong Ho. We are truly sad to deliver this news around this time.

Yesterday, we received a statement from Kespa that the players will not participate in GSL season. This was a shocking and disappointing news to us.

We want to express our apology on the breach in partnership between Kespa and Esports Federation and on Kespa's decisions.

GOMTV devoted great amount of effort to succesfully globalize Korean E-sports ever since the release of Starcraft II 2 years ago.

Thanks to this, "E-sports Federation" was assembled to work side-by-side with GOMTV in the hope to carry Korean E-sports a step forward.

Considering the days of "GOMTV Classic", the decision by Kespa to not participate in GSL is not a simple issue and we are afraid that it might recur in the future considering the situation.

GOMTV provided Kespa players with various accommodations regarding the schedule and application process and yet the decision by Kespa seems to spoil the partnership between E-sports Federation and Kespa.

One of the reasons that Kespa will not participate in GSL was that there is a conflict in scheduling of the players. This is pretty hard to accept as GOMTV was able to accommodate many schedule conflicts without any problem for the past 2 years and this was also the case for Kespa players who participated in WCS and WCG.

E-Sports Federation does not want GSL to be removed from Korean E-sports and if it does, the effect of E-sports Federation players to the global E-sports will decrease for certain.

We think that it is mandatory for Kespa to work with us and show great games to our viewers. As such, we have contacted teams of E-sports Federation (Startale, LG-IM, Prime, MVP, NSH, TSL, FXO) regarding the players who are participating in OSL (Nestea, MVP, DRG, MKP, Parting, San) to make the following decision:

For the better future of Korean E-sports, we politely ask Kespa players to participate in GSL and until Kespa decides to allow their players to join GSL without any problem, we have decided to pull our players from OSL.

It is also difficult for us to make such harsh decisions but we think it is necessary to appeal the dignity of GOMTV and E-sports Federation.

Once again, we are truly apologetic regarding such news and we hope that Kespa would cooperate so that we can show amazing games to all of you.

Thanks

It wouldn't. They don't plan on playing in the OSL already lol. They aren't going to try next season if kespa is still going to ban their players from playing in GSL.

permaban, every single ESF team? i would think that OSL still has more prestige than GSL in korea and korean bw fans greatly outnumber korean sc2 fans. i think ESF has more to lose from getting banned from OSL.

korean bw scene is small compared with the foreign scene.
Foreign scene will boycot KeSPA events/players.

yea, because any foreign sc2 event has ever come close to equaling the live audience of OSL or proleague finals

4.7m views for mlg across all games, 10m views in china alone for jin air osl finals only

hmmm

Specifically China. China is LoL now. China also has 80billion people. The Foreign SC2 audience is quite big and will grow much bigger when HOTS comes out.

moba and rts players don't necessarily overlap

plus i fail to see how hots is going to be any more popular than wol

Can someone enlighten me as to why the Kespa teams can't just leave the organization? Aren't the players contracted to their teams instead of Kespa? If the teams decided to pull out of Kespa, is that possible or are they somehow bound to Kespa?

They are good enough to not get owned by random code B's. If the qualifiers were held, due to their big numbers I suspect around half would be Kespa players getting through.

Because OGN is part of Kespa committee that had a say in GSL boycott. They deserve it.

LOL you are pushing it.

Really? source

Read the article. That's exactly what it says.

That does not mean they "deserve it", if you dont understand.

OGN is television, OGN is simply a product, its like saying Microsoft deserves to be burned down because, their sales/resources affected their competitors.

I think people should read FXOboss's blog on this whole drama it is very interesting. He even addresses the OGN thing.

1) OGN and KESPA are pretty much the same thing. Their interests are extremely common and 1 company is the common party.

The teams can't because then they would suddenly be without sponsors and without money. It is far too dangerous and high risk to just do something like that when KeSPA pays them handsome amounts of money. The players the same.

It often happens with expansions. Look at other games. As long as the popularity is there and expectations for the expansion are high.

I hope its resolved.. was really looking forward to OSL Ro16
