This is kind of like World War 1/2.

Blizzard vs Kespa would be ww1, with the winner being League of Legends (since bw died and sc2 is not living up to its hype).
This would be ww2, Kespa Vs ESF. Doesnt matter who wins here, League of Legends get more viewers since Kespa fans are going to spite gom and gsl will still be there but will never again retake the glory of the BW days.

there is hardly any kespa fans

This. Even in Korea, there are plenty of BW fans yes, but not KeSPA fans.

I doubt one would be possible without the second tbh. Give the credit where its due, Kespa did as good as bad for scene.

Hmm.... it's just a retaliation. Did Kespa not see it coming?

Granted, Kespa at least told GSL ahead of time they wouldn't be participating. This kinda fucks Kespa, while GSL never really got fucked.

(I know it's completely different, but I can't get used to saying ESF after just reading this topic).

You are not right. The deal between Gom, Ongamenet, Kespa and Blizzard contained a "paragraph" that stated that Kespa players would be able to participate in any GomTv league if they want to do so and meet the requirements. This was only fair so that both Ongamenet and Gom could have all the best players and build up rivalries over both leagues etc. The Kespa players wanted that a lot as well. So Kespa did not stay on the mutual agreement and the ESF is now in all right to protect their players from too much exposure and stress of a possible triple match schedule from GSL, GSTL and OS2L.

Source please?

It wouldn't. They don't plan on playing in the OSL already lol. They aren't going to try next season if kespa is still going to ban their players from playing in GSL.

permaban, every single ESF team? i would think that OSL still has more prestige than GSL in korea and korean bw fans greatly outnumber korean sc2 fans. i think ESF has more to lose from getting banned from OSL.

korean bw scene is small compared with the foreign scene.
Foreign scene will boycot KeSPA events/players.

yea, because any foreign sc2 event has ever come close to equaling the live audience of OSL or proleague finals

4.7m views for mlg across all games, 10m views in china alone for jin air osl finals only

hmmm

Kespa is in a bad situation regardless because sure, they have the money right now, but the reason they switched to sc2 in the first place was the sponsorship money was getting less and less; alienating most of the foreign fanbase at least, which is where the sc2 money is, is not going to do them any good.
People saying that they can snipe ESF players when their deal runs out should consider that in one year Kespa teams might not have nearly as much money. Also, most ESF players were pretty miserable when they were with Kespa teams and say they don't want to get back to those days, so that is also something else to consider.
Sure ESF's move is more drastic than Kespa's but the reason they are doing it isn't simply because of the GSL thing, it's to limit Kespa's power and not shut down any other league that doesn't answer directly to them, like they did in BW.

Umm everyone knows that Kespa is doing a power play here. ESF would not do this if it was simply a matter of their players not being ready etc. Don't be naive.

this is childish.

Yes I understand why they're doing it but lets see who is getting hurt here, the players and OGN themselves who actually weren't at fault in the first place(NO OGN IS NOT KESPA DON'T YOU EVEN DARE TO ARGUE THAT), This is the fucking Ro16 for fucks sake its basically the middle of the tournament, at least for the GSL it was the damn qualifiers.

also GOM IS NOT ESF, SAME AS OGN IS NOT KESPA

Here is the translation. Hope I'm not too late It was pretty hard to translate as the response from ESF was really formal and serious.

From ESF//

First of all, on behalf of E-sports federation, we are truly sad about what happened to KT's Woo Jeong Ho. We are truly sad to deliver this news around this time.

Yesterday, we received a statement from Kespa that the players will not participate in GSL season. This was a shocking and disappointing news to us.

We want to express our apology on the breach in partnership between Kespa and Esports Federation and on Kespa's decisions.

GOMTV devoted great amount of effort to succesfully globalize Korean E-sports ever since the release of Starcraft II 2 years ago.

Thanks to this, "E-sports Federation" was assembled to work side-by-side with GOMTV in the hope to carry Korean E-sports a step forward.

Considering the days of "GOMTV Classic", the decision by Kespa to not participate in GSL is not a simple issue and we are afraid that it might recur in the future considering the situation.

GOMTV provided Kespa players with various accommodations regarding the schedule and application process and yet the decision by Kespa seems to spoil the partnership between E-sports Federation and Kespa.

One of the reasons that Kespa will not participate in GSL was that there is a conflict in scheduling of the players. This is pretty hard to accept as GOMTV was able to accommodate many schedule conflicts without any problem for the past 2 years and this was also the case for Kespa players who participated in WCS and WCG.

E-Sports Federation does not want GSL to be removed from Korean E-sports and if it does, the effect of E-sports Federation players to the global E-sports will decrease for certain.

We think that it is mandatory for Kespa to work with us and show great games to our viewers. As such, we have contacted teams of E-sports Federation (Startale, LG-IM, Prime, MVP, NSH, TSL, FXO) regarding the players who are participating in OSL (Nestea, MVP, DRG, MKP, Parting, San) to make the following decision:

For the better future of Korean E-sports, we politely ask Kespa players to participate in GSL and until Kespa decides to allow their players to join GSL without any problem, we have decided to pull our players from OSL.

It is also difficult for us to make such harsh decisions but we think it is necessary to appeal the dignity of GOMTV and E-sports Federation.

Once again, we are truly apologetic regarding such news and we hope that Kespa would cooperate so that we can show amazing games to all of you.

Thanks

E-sports Federation Player representative Jae Deok "Nestea" IM
E-sports Federation President Won Jong Wook

Specifically China. China is LoL now. China also has 80billion people. The Foreign SC2 audience is quite big and will grow much bigger when HOTS comes out.

I don't enjoy ESF's decision but I fully understand it : Kespa wants the butter and the money from the buter's. Every time I heard of Kespa it's in a bad way , it seems to me that they are really trying to make as much money of e-sport without the will to make it bigger.
