#1) The time of the event will make it difficult for Australians and Koreans to watch, most likely. One of the reasons GSL is my favourite tournament (aside from having the best players and games), is that it's on at a time suitable for barcrafts or parties at my place. #2) Ro8 players are not usually the top 8 o the tournaments, it's possible to just prepare better and get that far, but have pretty average standard play. To get further than that you need to be a bona-fide starcraft master, except in this tournament. You could prepare good builds then run up against somebody good enough to beat you in normal GSL anyway, because they can prepare for your cheese. Except instead of getting eliminated by a better opponent, the cheese is totally unexpected and we get a worse player through to Ro4 who will most likely play bad games AGAIN. All that said, I'll still watch and the crowd will probably be sick as hell.

I don't care about weekend tournaments. They are boring and no one remembers them after a couple of weeks. That's not GSL.

Manuel Schenkhuizen @followgrubby Super exciting you'll have #GSL Ro8-Finals at IPL 5, this means finals will probably not be a 4-0 cuz no special preps. #GOOD @IGNProLeague

They're the players who know how to spend a weeks time preparing for a single opponent. All that means is that your Ro8 foe failed to prepare adequately for his one and only known opponent, so he deserved to lose anyway. A much better argument is that the eventual finalists wouldn't have much/any time to prepare for each other. Edit: Alternatively, the Ro8 quality could be affected by jet lag and/or players trying to do double duty, but both of these are somewhat schedule-dependent.

Seriously though, the GSL has a history of having boring and one sided finals. Maybe without all the preparation time for the players to engineer specific builds that just 4-0 hard counter their opponent's playstyle, the finals will be a lot better. I think this is just going to make an awesome weekend of games. I'd even dare to say that, if this works out, it could be the most exciting final yet.
