Taeja, Seed, DRG, MC and MKP are what I'd expect to see for the Korean line-up. Naniwa, Stephano, Nerchio, Thorzain and Mana forms the most obvious foreigner line-up

Why all the hate? I'm sorry, were the GSL finals known for there nerve biting and exciting games? This is just awesome to have the GSL in the US. You all are acting like old hens "we don't like change, and get off my grass!". Stop acting like a Negative Nancy, and be fucken stoked for how awesome this will be.
I for one can not wait to go. Going to Vegas is going to be sweet! I'm going to keep a watch out so I can get a ticket before they sell out to get in to that open tournament, and just getting to see the GSL finals live is going to be Awesome!

Maybe some of us actually like the GSL because it's, I don't know, the most highskilled and competitive tournament in the world? Maybe some of us realize that the preparation time is a large part of what makes it interesting and drives the metagame forward? Maybe some of us don't need 300 gauntlet style tournaments a month?

Hope they don't get another disconnect, would be embarrassing.

I'm pretty sure it's been said in the past 30 pages, but maybe this is a HUGE positive instead of a negative.
Maybe IPL has decided to have their open brackets one weekend, their pools the next weekend, and championships on a third weekend to make it a huge three week event of awesomeness. With the Ro8 the first weekend, the Ro4 with Pool play the 2nd and the Finals with the championship weekend.
Now, THAT would enable them to still have a week between each GSL match AND go at a pace that we can see both Open Bracket and Championship matches AND enable a hype train to build for any surprise players that get through open bracket.
Even if it was a 2 weekend tournament with Ro8/Ro4 one weekend and finals another or Ro8 one weekend and Ro4/finals the other with open bracket/ earlier GSL matches one weekend and championships the other that would be a pretty cool change for IPL and not THAT bad for GSL, particularly if it's Ro4 and Finals same weekend, as one would have to prepare for their match and the potential winner of the other match, making where you spend your practice time an interesting part of strategy. We would debate whether Nestea in the semis, versing Squirtle with the other bracket being say MKP vs Taeja, how much he should focus on the Squirtle match-up, and how much time he should spend preparing for his potential Terran foe in the finals. Time Management then becomes another big thing, and it would be interesting to see afterwards if he wins if he thought MKP/Taeja had the better chance of winning and thus he prepared more for that particular player.
Anyways, please let IPL 5 be at least 2 weekends

Ret ? No, just no.

EPIC FAIL I think. This basically cheapens the prestige of this gsl. The point is that you need to prepare for your opponent with proper builds and such. They only reason I'm forgiving them on this is because they still need to do GSL S5 and BLizzard cup and WCS has taken a whole month away from them. I expect an underwhelming final.

Do you live in or near Vegas by chance? :p

I don't think it's that big of a deal as a one time thing. This GSL season will still be the best of the best and it's hard to argue that any of the RO8 simply wont have a chance in hell to win the finals so a good player will win regardless. The prestige is there, people are way overreacting. Besides, we've also got an OSL taking place roughly the same time so it's not like there's going to be any distinct lack of "preparation" tournaments. It's just one time guys, out of the ~15 "preparation" GSL seasons we've had so far. Imho, deal with it.

This is completely sick. wtf. Will be an epic weekend.

I think Ret is better than Scarlett. Probably should have Major up there in place of Nerchio though, Nerchio is good but I don't think he's top 5. Major is a prick but he's good.

Making this move at litterally the exact same time that OSL moves into SC2 seems like the worst idea ever.

I remember hearing people talking about the oversaturation of tournaments and how that's a bad thing, this is why. Having 2-3 tourneys going at the same time is a TERRIBLE idea. If they had the GSL WC and then just IPL5, that would be great, but having the Code S finals there too? Bad idea.
|
I just have no idea how anyone can think this is good for the GSL. It's one thing if you think it's needed to save time, or something, but it's certainly going to result in a lower level of competition.
|
i don't know about this. kinda messes up the uniqueness of the GSL what with the preparation times and what not. it also means there will be like 3 sc2 tournaments at IPL5, and we have seen with all the WCS running parallel to another tournament etc that that doesn't seem like such a great idea.
on the other hand, it's gonna put top Code S competition into a different scenario which could be interesting, and it arguably gives some of my favorite players a better chance to win than they would have in regular GSL format (marineking, taeja,..)

Nerchio is better than both, Ret and Major. He recently won HSC, beating MC and destroying Yonghwa. Major is ofc. an option, but guys like Vortix, SortOf, MaNa or Socke should be considered as well.
