Sounds awesome but if they don't invest in production and we have another NASL1/2 event it's for nothing

This ruins my night time viewing of the GSL Oh well, as long as the games are good I'll still watch.

Read it again this morning, it really blows ;/
He had the same don't-give-a-f*** attitude from his stream, where he all-ins every game and shamelessly plays three ads.

Personally I'm not too attached to the idea of GSL being all about preparation time. It's irrefutable that the majority of GSL finals have been, shall we say, not very close. Clearly GSL does not have a method of producing entertaining and close finals. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people complaining about this decision by GOM also complained in the GSL final LR threads about how shitty the games were lol. MC and Seed had a week to prepare and the result was a bunch of PvP build order wins. They didn't come up with anything interesting, they just kind of flipped the SC2 coin. I'd say the quality of a tournament's finals are due to luck more than anything else, so I'll be watching these finals and looking forward to great games.

ipl4 was plagued by scheduling delays constantly throughout the tournament (culminating with the final finals taking place at midnight on Sunday). thankfully, there's a 40 player cap to the ipl5 tournament, which means there should be only 7-8 rounds of play (since it's double elimination) so hopefully they'll be able to stick to the schedule a lot better (less lengthy commercials and breaks in between every single game). the highlight for ipl4 was the gstl and how smoothly the production went (also the only day in the tournament where they actually ended on time)

I think its awesome they have done similar things before and i thought it was awesome then too, it's just one GSL so its not like the whole no prep thing is really affecting the integrity of the tournament as a whole this one GSL will just have a tiny * in the corner saying GSL at IPL5. People are so adverse to change even if its just temporary, I personally think its good to shake up the system a bit from time to time.

Im a DRG fanboy, but I can honestly say that unless you are going off of life time achievements, that NesTea is not on the team ahead of DRG in any way shape or form. And if we are going off of life time achievements TaeJa is off the team.

It's three weeks of GSL. Ro8 takes two days and then a week break for semifinals. Then the semifinals occur and the finalists get a week and a half to practice for the final.

It makes sense when you realize we only have four months left in the year and GOM still needs to do GSL4/5 an Blizzard Cup.

maybe you should put in the op that its 3 weeks.. would clear up a lot of confusion.
I thought they would do Ro 8 -> finals on one weekend

Your not reading it correctly. Fionn is saying that its Ro8-Finals in one weekend for this IPL5/GSL finals. Normally that would take 3 or 3.5 weeks. Fionn is posting how much time is being 'saved' doing it this way, and showing the reason why.

Unless they change it then it is only on the weekend. Thats what alot of the uproar/discussion is about. No confusion, except on your part

The first negative thing I've seen out of a GOM partnership so far (save the Naniwa seeding incident). This upcoming GSL is going to carry less weight to me than all the others, I'm dissapointed in this decision by all parties involved.

I have to imagine (hope) that this takes place over more days than an average tournament at least. Something like ro8 on Wednesday/Thursday, ro4 on Friday, Final on Sunday would at least give the competitors two days to prepare for each round. Either way, I'm not sure I like such a change in the tournament because even if there are a few days between each round, the players will be out of their normal environments for all of their preparations, making the preparations sub-optimal. I'll wait until the complete announcement to pass any more judgement though. Maybe it could turn out alright.

IPL probably doesn't give a shit about SC2 anymore and just wants to cash in while they still can. They can see a much larger return on investment if they focus heavily on LoL.

What so will they still have time to prepare between ro8-r04 etc or are they going to throw this into one weekend, because I'd rather not see that.
