I was watching a replay of a pro player doing some muta harass and ended up watching the minimap for most of the game. it was beautiful. my game improved drastically when i started using the minimap and you should all use it more. it is quite an art form i started looking at a bunch of replays and streams and realized that every player looks different on the minimap. some of them remind me of inkblots or abstract art. i cropped a couple of them that i liked and named them.
:the real immortal: this is stephano completely overpowering squirtle. squirtle has several immortals and centries but just completely gets overrun. at both ramps.
:blacksheepwall: this is bomber vs estoji and the creep/overloard spread/hatcheries + the sensor tower and 4 basses give these players total map vission when combined. if you wanna know how you should spread your overloards and wheres a good spot for terran turrets/towers, watch these players
:1v1: these are old builds of mkp and mvp. these are from the same replay and you can clearly see same race, same map, different look on the minimap.
:humming bird: this is my favorite. a player ive never heard of (or a smurf account) named jianer. this is the replay i was watching with the muta ling harass. this pic shows the first time huk steps out of his bass and gets immeeeeediately surrounded by lings and mutas. i love you huk but you got owned!!!!!! lol and it was beautiful to watch
also i think this is a really good way to explain some strategies. if you watch the minimap of muta harass you can see the defending player turtle up and hold tight as the muta player dances around with lings and mutas. use the minimap more guys! hope you all enjoy.
I don't know if I'm scoring mad perv points on the Rorschach test but the creep on the last imag looks like a dude having his way with someone if you get my drift.
I agree that it's helpful to watch an entire replay on the minimap to get you used to seeing things on the minimap, but I wouldn't go so far as to call minimap "art".
It seems to me like all pro zvt's and zvp's that go past the midgame look like those.
cuz stephano "doesnt die" to immortal pushes. and cuz i was just looking for replays of players i knew. i didnt look for new ones cuz those are harder to find. i want to find some of TLO and make some giffs, i love his creep spread. if i do ill update this and put it in.
Watching that HuK vs Idra game on Steppes of War was so unbelievably fascinating to me, even though it shouldn't have been. Just interesting to watch. Cool perspective.

I think it looks like the top half of an alien having a boxing match. The left sensor tower is his eye.

For some reason I found that video profoundly interesting.
Oh wow, my old video. I should make some more of those and repost the thread. I remember I said I was going to and then I never got around to it. One of the things that interested me about that was the question that if you gave enough of those videos to a team of scientists (or just research lovers), would they be able to deduce the different races and units and strategies without seeing anything else.
I opened this thread thinking it was actual art done with the minimap, and I immediately saw the first picture as a reproduction of the face on the cover of great gatsby. The actual post is cool, but I still like my way of seeing itXD
I can't figure out any of those. Maybe I'm just too tired right now. But perhaps could be more hints and more clear description what we are supposed to be seeing at those. I just see creep, buildings and units, at the moment.
Watching that little clip - someday Blizzard will hopefully realize that spectating RTS doesn't have to be exactly like playing it, so they don't need to force the average casual viewer to get used to limited vision and vision as a resource. And then they'll implement viewing distance for spectating similar to supcom, so that you could see large portions of the map, or even the whole at once, zoom in and zoom out. (Don't worry, that would be only for spectating.)
kaiser please do <3 ill start looking for a really good muta game and im sure someone can find some good music to go with it
for anyone trying to find an immortal in the first picture i called it that because stephano is a boss and beats alot of immortal pushes i dont actually see an immortal in the picture, but when i see a game with stephano the minimap usually looks the same. i think i might be able to tell its him just from a minimap, his creep spread isnt the best but the 3 bass and unit rally is something to behold. SO MANY UNITS SO EARLY ON
i still have the replays ill post them tomorrow. if enough people post ill try to make a video of the minimap and update this post. i really want to get a TLO game and watch him creep spread.
I think the Idra v Huk game is one of those super old games that Husky might have cast, Idra goes 2 base roach hydra with creep highway, maybe hydra heavy, before people recognized how awful they were. As for the general idea of the op, I like it. Prob reading more into it than there is to read into, but would love to see more creep habits/patterns of some pros, esp now and then.
