Everything counts. That is the point of this thread. If you wanna get too critical, this thread looses its humor... TSL DEFF counts.

Hell, imho Playhem counts... even if Bo1... the only thing that shouldn't count is random ladder encounters that are Bo1.

The only reason TSL is "bigger" than other online cups is because Teamliquid is telling you it is. If you want to count one online cup, be fair and count them all.

I don't agree with counting _any_ online event because of the latency factor, which simply ruins competitive play.

This + there's many many online tournaments. Many of the results are hard to find too.

We either count everything or it's LAN only. It's LAN only so, TSL defffff doesn't count.

Since the op decided to use football as a reference point I'm gonna point out the whole logic is flawed, the last team to beat Spain in a competitive match was USA in 2010 (I'm actually a Football journalist/blogger) so with the logic used in the list USA in the best soccer team in the world? No.

actually, north korea is ;D

I'm not getting it.
Spain are the undisputed champions since 2008 only the USA have beaten them competitively (non-friendly) and I don't think the USA have played any competitions since 2010 since the next WC or American-based tournament aint til 2014

It's not since the 2008 World cup, its since the ORIGINAL international football competition beween scotland and england waaaay back in the1800s, much like this is since the original GSL Open Season One. If you had read the link in OP you'd see how it makes sense.

It's all in good fun is what we're saying, something extra on the line when people meet in competitions.

I agree with what people are are saying about TSL not counting as it's an online cup and there are SO fricken many of those.

Someone should make a championship belt for this, and give it to the champion for him to bring during LANs. Then when he loses he needs to pass it on to the next guy.

You know, so we don't lose track.

OH MY GOD THIS IS GENIUS!

I smell a community project coming up...

It wouldn't have to be fancy even... but hopefully DURABLE.

Hell why not eh? That's what makes e-sports so fantastic. We can take something like this and make it into a real thing haha. Still just for fun, but how exciting will it be to have an actual belt on the line that circulates the globe?!

It's a feasible idea now that I think about it. The only problem might be making sure that players bring it along and pass it on when they lose xD

Maybe we can find a sponsor, whose name will go on the belt (think LG/Asus/etc World Championship Belt). It can be sort of a giant around-the-world King of the Hill thing, where each successful LAN title defense earns the champion $50/25/10. Players that forget to bring the belt or don't surrender it in a timely manner upon defeat lose money.

for the sake of not having to work too hard, I think it should just be "major" tournaments

digging through playhem/zotac/go4sc2 etc is too much work

Draw the line at TSL (after TSL more specifically).

TSL has enough of a tradition and history to be counted among major events. Other online tournaments don't.

Can you imagine people using it in ceremonies at the GSL when they successfully defend, or defeat for that matter?

I guess I could see the ten bucks for a UWCS match being acceptable by all parties, but I don't think the fee for not bringing it should be there. People would bring it, it'd be too cool not to bring it really. Can you imagine MC with it?! It'd be awesome! I'm gonna look into what I can do to make this happen tomorrow. Likely nothing... but you never know. I posted on reddit but it's getting downvoted for some reason:

http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/xr0z6/anyone_in_the_community_able_to_help_make_a_belt/

Edit: Regarding TSL or not, I have to stick with not. Partly for the LAN for the belt transfer, and also because there are several other prestigious online tournaments. Most notably KSL, that's a pretty big one really, and IPLTAC and NASTL (are we including NASL btw? Probably not other than the finals... I would think. If you include TSL you absolutely have to include NASL right? And then if NASL then might as well NASTL as it's just the team league of that franchise, but IPLTAC and KSL are more prestigious team leagues...)

TSL should be included, It's more important than some LAN events as far as the level of prestige you get for winning it.

What's more prestigious? Winning TSL or an MLG? That should be more than enough to answer whether or not TSL is prestigious enough to be included.

i think the TSL-NASL comparison is a fair one; i've decided to consider the NASL offline finals as included, but not the NASL main season. TSL finals are offline, but the main season is not hrmmm.

i think MLG prestige > TSL tbh
