Any form of punishment or upheld law is barbaric? Hmm explain that one to me! thats nto what he said, making an example of someone is pretty barbaric, basically what making an example of someone is is purposely giving them an extra large sentannce then normal (like lets say speeding normall is a 100$ fine and instead fining 1000$) in order to show everyone else how serious you are Once again, he is being made an example of by being punished by what the law clearly states is wrong. The court will decide the severity of it based on the case not by some vendetta like objective to scare off all trolls. The real "example" of him being made is by making this case public. When the ruling comes then you can scream, "OMG THAT IS TOO EXTREME!?!" But until then, reserve judgement and just be happy that this moron is being punished for committing a crime. Have you ever sped on the road? I guess you've committed a crime too. I'm not sure how laws in SK work (probably more strict than in USA) but I can't imagine such a case being upheld in USA. Irregardless of the guy's act, Jessica needs to grow up. She can't expect everyone to always agree with her and for things to alays go her way - she needs to be able to take some criticism. I don't think you know what all she puts up with. As a female in a gaming community, I don't think any of us could ever understand what all she probably goes through. Every female can share this sentiment from what I see though. It may be a challenge, but her ridiculously poor attitude complicates matters. Others have dealt with such challenges in a much more professional manner. Examples? How would you professionally handle it? Females don't think like males do. They run higher on emotion and are more easily hurt. You need to keep that in mind as well. But maybe me being married for so many years, I tend to understand how females think now. That still doesn't make it okay. There are a lot of professional females who aren't ridiculous poor-spirited about it, and these are people who actually compete against men, not just run teams. Hayley Wickenheiser Jennifer Jo Cobb (who is overshadowed by the moody and somewhat annoying Danica Patrick) Morlan Isom The point is if we're talking equality, being female doesn't excuse you from poor behaviour. That seems sexist to me. If Danica Patrick initiated litigation or acted in a way similar to Jessica, imagine the large negative reaction she would face. How is Jessica exhibiting poor behavior? She is seeking justice for a crime against a troll. The troll is the one who exhibits poor behavior... I don't understand your statement here. Maybe you are the sexist one ^_^ I'm saying to say that females need to be treated differently is discrimination, no? She is legally doing the right thing, but she fails to understand the perception this creates around her. I'm not saying for me (since I never liked Slayers as a team anyway), but she needs to recognize that some fights aren't worth pursuing. This isn't gaining her any fans, but it will definitely further the belief that she can be a pain to work with.
So men and women shouldn't have separate bathrooms. The sign should just say "humans." There should be no female sports leagues either? Locker rooms should be shared as well?
So is the way of the world...

I guess this is what it really does come down to. Nothing we say on here will change SK's laws. Just don't understand how some one could be silly/hurt enough to ruin someone's life over something said on the internet.

people think harassing or w/e bs is okay; whereas, taking the appropriate measures to stop this bs is not?
what's up with people these days?
these kids need to learn their lesson the hard way, and grow up.
and I am sure the prison sentence will teach them how to be a normal human being. You think so ? Him going to jail having a harder time to ever get a normal job again, meeting great people in jail hang out with the right crowd ye that's going to teach him a lesson. One's you go to jail you will be back. A fine would be more then just, let him pay some of his cash. More then a good lesson. Instead of ruining his entire life over a small matter. lol? that's his own fault? nobody asked him to harass others online, why did he do it? Action ---> Consequence. How is a fine more than just? Does that simply empower people with money to stalk and harass? Wake up, this is not the preschool anymore. The world is for real. There are laws which govern the society. And I don't feel sorry for the troll kid at all, he ruined his own life. That's on him. It's his own fault. It's his own responsibility.
There are many forms of crime and laws thank god and i simply do not agree this one deserves jail time, i fail to see why i would need to wake up.

If you want to risk 44,000 dollars and risk spending 7 years in prison just to hurt someone's feelings, you don't deserve to exist. See what I did there? This guy knew the law, he knew the risks of what he was doing, and he went ahead and did it anyway. He wanted to insult Jessica THAT badly? Agreed. Similar lawsuits against people trolling on the internet has happened countless times in SK before. Heck, even KT almost sued someone for flaming Flash. These things are serious business in South Korea, and these people should have known better. That doesn't mean the law is right. I mean come on, would you argue against someone who is fighting a racist or misogynistic government who enforces the law in kind? "But that black person should've known better than to sit at the front of the bus...the country has laws for segregation and she should obey them." I think we should all be able to agree these status quo kinds of statements are void in this argument and serve no purpose. It is right, if the law makes people be less dickery and have higher class it helps the image of the community as a whole, I can't believe all the people defending this crap. Have you not learned your lesson on what happened to the fighting game community? If we've reached the point as a society where we need the law to stop people from hurting other people's feelings, I'd say something has gone awry. If we've reached the point as a society when people are allowed to be dicks as much as they want, I'd say something has gone awry. You can ban people from chat rooms. Yes, and you can sue them so they learn their lesson and stop being dicks rather than have them make new accounts and continue being dicks to you or to other people. People need to learn to have some class, hopefully this will make an example of those who lack it. I agree that this person obviously needs to be taught some sort of lesson. But 7 YEARS for doing something technically not even illegal is just ridiculous and sadistic. Harper Lee said that you should never judge a man until you walk in his shoes, and I feel like half the forum here should take note.
7 years is the maximum sentence. The maximum sentence is usually deserved for the worst cases(ie bullying someone to suicide) guy will probably have to pay a fine.

i don't even care about the genders here. if you wanna harass someone, if you wanna attack someone based on their sex/religion..etc. that's totally unacceptable. Not even saying we should protect her or support her cuz she's a woman, but because she's the one being harassed, REPEATEDLY.
get it?
it's not about who she is, but it's about what the other guy did.
and obviously, in korea, it's big deal, which is nice.
what Jessica's doing is fair game too. She's not overreacting or anything. She's merely protecting her own interests.
Everyone has the right to not be harassed, amirite? If your wife, mom, w/e is getting stalked, harassed NONSTOP, what would you do? tell her to grow a pair?

I mean, she should be well aware of the internet where people say so many nasty shits and there will be always haters, trolls and dumb fucks who hide under anonymity

Please tell me in which society/culture calling someone a cunt and telling them to suck your dick is a compliment.
Personally, I could care less about what people say to me online, but who am I to judge/criticize another person's tolerance level? If Jessica feels offended and is legally entitled to prosecute someone, then so be it. I think the main lesson is that what's acceptable for one person, may not be acceptable for others. So if you're going to piss people off, make sure there are no chances of any legal repercussions.

It's not like prison is a done deal for this guy. For starters he could apologize. It could make Jessica drop the suit immediately. It would strengthen the argument of those who think she's overreacting. And it would probably make the courts more lenient if it does go to court.
