Making an example of people is a stupid redneck view of things. It explicitly implies the punishment is unfair with the goal of scaring the shit out of everyone else. Ruling by fear is barbaric and not needed for human beings.

Any form of punishment or upheld law is barbaric? Hmm explain that one to me!

thats nto what he said, making an example of someone is pretty barbaric, basically what making an example of someone is is purposely giving them an extra large sentannce then normal (like lets say speeding normall is a 100$ fine and instead fining 1000$) in order to show everyone else how serious you are

Once again, he is being made an example of by being punished by what the law clearly states is wrong. The court will decide the severity of it based on the case not by some vendetta like objective to scare off all trolls. The real "example" of him being made is by making this case public. When the ruling comes then you can scream, "OMG THAT IS TOO EXTREME!?!" But until then, reserve judgement and just be happy that this moron is being punished for committing a crime.

human decency = being happy at the suffering of others?

No human decency = pursuing justice for crimes commited.
The same way your parents should ground you or spank you for doing something bad. I wouldn't see that as "suffering."

bad example since spanking im pretty sure if a parent is evert found to have spanked there kid they could have the kid taken away

also, grounding someone and fining them 40 thousand dollars, not the same thing

I'm sure his punishment won't be that severe... But spanking shouldn't justify taking a kid away either lol.

if the parent is consistantly spanking the kid theyll be seen as an unfit parent and the kid get sent to a home

itd be extremely rare for it to happen cause of jsut spanking though generally the parent would be lacking in other areas but im pretty sure spanking is filed under child abuse now

Maybe in some places, but definitely not everywhere. I think that is what is wrong with some of the younger generation now though. Too many people feel entitled to things. Understanding the weight of making right and wrong choices should be taught to kids. Imagine a world where everyone never received any form of punishment...

True, but I'm sure in those areas the dudes don't go out into public and start fucking each other correct? This guy went onto a public chatroom and insulted her, knowing full well what the consequences would be.

So laws are wonky in places, but you don't go out and provoke someone to use it against you regardless of where you are.

i agree if this is an every day sorta occurence in korea (well not everyday but you get what i mean) then theres no reason for her to make such a huge fuss over this, she should know that news would spread outside SK and obviously people outside SK would see this as a bid deal

Except most people see her action as justified, even outside of Korea.

Did you poll everyone already?

I don't need to. There was one earlier in the thread and the results were something like 2:1.

The results on a starcraft website voting on the wife of starcraft legend couldn't possibly be bias lol.

Have you ever sped on the road?

I guess you've committed a crime too.

I'm not sure how laws in SK work (probably more strict than in USA) but I can't imagine such a case being upheld in USA.

Irregardless of the guy's act, Jessica needs to grow up. She can't expect everyone to always agree with her and for things to alays go her way - she needs to be able to take some criticism.

I don't think you know what all she puts up with. As a female in a gaming community, I don't think any of us could ever understand what all she probably goes through. Every female can share this sentiment from what I see though.

It may be a challenge, but her ridiculously poor attitude complicates matters. Others have dealt with such challenges in a much more professional manner.

Examples? How would you professionally handle it? Females don't think like males do. They run higher on emotion and are more easily hurt. You need to keep that in mind as well. But maybe me being married for so many years, I tend to understand how females think now.

oh yes everyone msut protect the dainty little females -.-

yeh, let's protect the stalkers, harassers instead? awesome.......this makes way more sense, right?

what's up with people these days?

these kids need to learn their lesson the hard way, and grow up.

and I am sure the prison sentence will teach them how to be a normal human being.

You think so ? Him going to jail having a harder time to ever get a normal job again, meeting great people in jail hang out with the right crowd ye that's going to teach him a lesson. One's you go to jail you will be back.

A fine would be more then just, let him pay some of his cash. More then a good lesson. Instead of ruining his entire life over a small matter.

Well, he should have thought about that before harassing her.

And jail time ruining your life is a complete different issue.

It's a direct result of the great system that would acure in your eyes.

That still doesn't make it okay. There are a lot of professional females who aren't ridiculous poor-spirited about it, and these are people who actually compete against men, not just run teams.

Hayley Wickenheiser
Jennifer Jo Cobb (who is overshadowed by the moody and somewhat annoying Danica Patrick)
Morlan Isom

The point is if we're talking equality, being female doesn't excuse you from poor behaviour. That seems sexist to me. If Danica Patrick initiated litigation or acted in a way similar to Jessica, imagine the large negative reaction she would face.

Are you really putting deliberate sexual harassment and a person's (arguably) genetic sexual orientation on the same level?

As far as I believe, no one chooses to be gay. That guy chose to be a douche in a country that doesn't take such online sexual harassment kindly. Your analogy only works if you think being gay is morally wrong, and if you do, well... can't change the ignorant.

the difference is Orb was being judged on a moral level alone, while this guy faces up to 7 YEARS in prison.

Now that I think about it, I don't know how Jessica can, in good conscience, try to send a person she doesn't evenow to jail for SEVEN YEARS just because he trolls like half of the other trolls on the internet. Think about it, if this guys is in college, he won't ever have a good career. Hey may even be, like, thirteen or so years old. Blindly jailing somebody is just wrong.

Also, if we had waited on the ESPORTS poll, this may have made it pretty deep XD

Dude get off your chauvnistic high horse and grow up. Females use emotion and act hurt because it gets them what they want. They aren't destined to be more weak and emotional, it just works for them so they go with it. Because guys like to beat their chest, save them, and can't stand to see him cry. A dude crys he just gets laughed at, so he learns not to cry. It's all just evolutionary adaptation.

Estrogen wants to argue your theory there... And it's spelled chauvinistic... How do I need to grow up again? By supporting Jessica, I'm being immature? So if I support a troll, will that make me more mature? lol

Examples? How would you professionally handle it? Females don't think like males do. They run higher on emotion and are more easily hurt. You need to keep that in mind as well. But maybe me being married for so many years, I tend to understand how females think now.

oh yes everyone msut protect the dainty little females -.-

yeh, let's protect the stalkers, harassers instead? awesome.......this makes way more sense, right?

what im saying is discrimination is a two way street, saying "we should defend Jessica because shes a womone" is the same as attacking her becuase shes a women

In short: Jessica has every right to litigate. I just can't, for the life of me, understand why she would choose to do so.

This is ridiculous, no way this guy is gonna get 7 years of prison for that. The government has others things to handle

7 years of prison is just the maximum sentence for the really serious cases. A serious case may be something like a really bad false rumour that destroys someone's life. This is minor and a lot of the time the trolls take responsibility for their actions and are apologetic in these cases and it ends up being settled out of court. It's really not as big of a deal as the foreign community may think. Punishing trolls is a socially acceptable thing in Korea and it's just business as usual. The troll isn't facing some sort of huge injustice infringing on their right to free speech on how much they want to have sex with Jessica. They're just being held accountable for their actions on the internet, and the punishment probably won't be that bad. Many times the actual suing never happens since the troll apologizes and they leave it at that.

So if I support a troll, will that make me more mature? lol

lol estrogen is a product of evolution like *everything* else and Jessica is stronger and more superior to this dude thanks to her wealth and fame, she is not the poor defenseless woman here.

I support her, the troll has obviously been banned repeatedly, and each time, he would just come back. and it pissed me off too. i was there the whole time, and i was sick of that kid too.

people think harassing or w/e bs is okay; whereas, taking the appropriate measures to stop this bs is not?

what's up with people these days?

these kids need to learn their lesson the hard way, and grow up.

and I am sure the prison sentence will teach them how to be a normal human being.

How is Jessica exhibiting poor behavior? She is seeking justice for a crime against a troll. The troll is the one who exhibits poor behavior... I don't understand your statement here. Maybe you are the sexist one ^_^
