So if I understand correct the following occured:

Stephano decides to play SCAN and ONOG. I've actually saw the whole SCAN tournament myself and at least there, the times where all scheduled and actaully didnt have much more delay then 5 minutes, which is amazing. (normally scheduling is bound to be very, very wrong)

But alas, at least Stephano knows the times he can expect to play and finish for SCAN.

Now I did not see ONOG, but I take it that the tournament organisers run some kind of schedule aswell, which they share with the players. So again, Stephano knows what he's in for with certain times, bar super long delays due to issues/very long games.

Taking those two statements into account, I have to conclude that Stephano overstepped his bounds, and made the sad choice to try and put an ultimatum on tournament organisers.

What further is kinda shocking, is the fact that Stephano himself delayed the tournament aswell. So not only did he knew the certain time he was expected to play/finish, he then also proceeded to delay this time himself.

Imo, giving ultimatums when you're the one to blame is a no-go, no matter who you are.

There is no real objective way to defend his behaviour. Either look at the schedules, see that you're going deep and forfit before things get exciting. Or man up and play your games.

And please, telling the audience that 'omg if i played i would totally suck yo', is jus the lamest thing for an excuse i've ever heard. Man up son.

He doesn't have to play to his full potential, he just needs to play his best as he is able at the time. Like with any sport, all people care about is if you try your best. DRG was throwing up before playing Leenock at MLG Providence and he played to the best of his ability even though nobody in their right mind would think he was playing to his full potential. I don't know where this idea that 'he wont be able to play to his full potential so he shouldn't try' came from but its certainly not acceptable in any other form of competition..

If stephano felt that he couldn't beat Kas in his current form and felt his time was better spent sleeping (and probably resting for whatever he had planned for the next day) then who are you to demand he plays out the match? Stephano made his choice, and he can't complain about the outcome as a result (and afaik, he isn't.)

Are you ignoring the fact that he wouldn't even be in this situation in the first place if practiced common sense on purpose?

You're right. Stephano shouldn't have bitten off more than he could chew. He forfeited his 2nd (and chance for 1st) place. I think that's propper "punishment". What more needs to be discussed?

How can the ACTION that offends people be the propper punishment!?
If I punch you in the head, I have to live with the fact that I hurt someone who did not deserve it, so I should not get any other punishment, right?

It's more like he chose NOT to punch someone. Inaction rather than action. You didn't punch me in the head... but you have to live with the fact that you could have at one point.

He made thousands of people wait and took a really great series of games away from them. He played the tournament untill the finals, then he makes everyone wait for nothing. Is that inaction? Is that nothing!? What if someone stays up 2hours only because he wanted to see Stephano vs Kas? I think you need to review your perspective.

You're going to hate me because I choose not to cure cancer but to play Starcraft instead? Millions of people are waiting right now for the cure for cancer. Eager at their hospital beds... Well, it's no big deal... I'd rather play Starcraft. I apologize, I'm not your messiah.

Wow, some people. Please don't make analogies if you can't actually think.

People are not actually waiting for YOU to cure cancer and no company actually invested in your ass to promote you as a cancer curer. SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF YOUR ANALOGY?

Cause I actually research p53...

Still the cure is not just waiting for you to find it so no one can't blame cause you are not smart enough to make it.

The difference in you and Stephano is that you can't even choose to get to cure so people can't blame you since it's out of your reach. Stephano CHOOSE to no play even though he could. See the difference?

With the way you are making analogies you should do something else with your life.

I'm not sure if not inviting Stephano for events would be good for tournaments. He's one of the very best and he pulls a lot of interest/viewers. Yes there are other good players, but as said, he's one of the very best at the moment.

Its his right as player to forfeit whenever he thinks he's not capable of playing anymore and this right should be absolute with or without giving a reason. I agree how he handled the situation was not very professional, yet it was his decision to make and since he was too tired to play even immediately, he chose to forfeit.

ONOG made a decision and did put him in the 4th place which I think was incorrect as well, because he won his semifinal and thus is at least #2. If you disqualify him for a forfeit he shouldn't be 4th... nor 2nd, but the way it is it just doesn't make sense.

I hate to say it, but thats why player contracts between teams/players exist and thats why players should sign a contract for invite tournaments and there should be strict rules for everything so these kind of situations either don't occur or can be dealt with easily. Thats unfortunately just how it works..

No matter how much money and trust your investors give you, you still can't guarantee a cure. So it's out of your reach. Stephano had 100% control of the situation. It's more like he had the cure and didn't want to treat anyone cause he was tired.

And I agree with Naruto that tournaments should start signing contracts with players.

Naniwa got a lot more hate than Stephano for much less. So there's the double standard from some people.

But I don't think idra wouldn't get a 1000 page thread if he was in Stephanos shoes right now.

If ONOG doesn't like the way he acts towards them they should ban him from any of their future tournaments, and set an example for the other players, and just deal with it.

True. But don't care. How good he is should not be a factor in this kind of situations. Unless we want to make sc2 as legitimate competition show as is Wrestling.

The whole thread should be about one thing anyway : Is the game a competition or an entertainment for the watchers ?
Stephano (and myself aswell) sees it a as a competition : he has every right to forfeit any game he feel he cannot compete in.
The community then bitches because they want their entertainement therefore "Stephano is a douche"
Stephano is not your monkey. He's not here to amuse you. He's here to play his best and if can't he shouldn't play
Stephano, Taking skill to the bank since IPL3. Also Lucifron and FBH

OK, so there is this guy in TL who actually KNOWS the cure to cancer, thus Stephano has the right to do whatever he wants.

You should really stop posting right now, this is getting so redicilous.

Plus it would be more like that:
You know the cure of cancer, you have proven it works and the product is ready. Now you announce the date of release of the product. The date of release is here and you say you will release it next month, one month later you say you don't want to release it and that's that.
And I guess people would be pissed at you for that. Are they wrong?

Edit: You are either a great troll or... Well, I hope you are a troll.

But I don't think idra wouldn't get a 1000 page thread if he was in Stephanos shoes right now.

Idra kinda was in stephano's shoes and he didn't get the thread. most people here are hating cuz they didn't like the stephano hype that was going on.

I'm not sure if not inviting Stephano for events would be good for tournaments. He's one of the very best and he pulls a lot of interest/viewers. Yes there are other good players, but as said, he's one of the very best at the moment.

True. But don't care. How good he is should not be a factor in this kind of situations. Unless we want to make sc2 as legitimate competition show as is Wrestling.

Viewer count is important to the tournaments... they make money with it. Its important to show to sponsors etc. You cannot ignore it, thats just how it is.

i don't recall an 1000 post thread when idra forfeited a tournament after nerchio bet him in the 1st game. or when tyler forfeited the tournament. which one was that?

Having higher expectations from players is a step up not down.

yeah double standards is definitely a step up.

and anyways it's not "much less". what naniwa did was completely different.

Just take a look into the traditional sports (NFL) world for your answer to this dilemma. Terrell Owens, one of the all time best wide receivers in the history of the sport just got passed up by every single NFL team due to his bad attitude/poor sportsmanship. It didn't matter how many fans he has (I'm personally a huge fan and he had a large enough fanbase to support a T.V. show all about him) or what kind of numbers/results he could put up in a season, nobody wanted him because of how he acted.

Stephano is no different from T.O.

His actions repeatedly seem to indicate that he has no regard for anyone but himself. He should learn the hard way that this isn't how professional sports work.

I don't get all the drama - Stephano couldn't play anymore (he must have been pretty damn exhausted if he just went for some sleep over $1000) and the tournament organisers handled it well enough, though they probably should have disqualified Stephano when he was late.
