it was definetely unprofessional on his part. understnadingly it was late but he had no right to give an ultimatum. if he wanted to sleep he would/should have forfeited his spot and stuck with the semifinal spot. regarding position of standing onog did the right thing

A couple of hours earlier the same day I was privileged to watch a 6 hours long tennis match that epitomized the very essence of professional sport - the resilience to overcome all physical and mental challenges, the determination to win, to entertain spectators and fans regardless of fatigue and pain. Now, there's no need to compare Stephano with Djokovic and Nadal, but speaking of professionalism what Stephano did was insulting to his profession to say the least.

There are real people behind pro-gamer IDs.

And there are real people raising money and going to a barcraft to have a forfeited final match cause one of the players couldn't take responsibility for finishing what he started, without giving a shit on everybody else. This is a major act of disrespect imo.

Should he die near his computer?

He played two tournaments and delayed one of the two to forfeit the finals, the mess is his fault in the first place so he better take responsibility and finish what he started. No need for more spoiled arrogant kids in esports, thanks.

Where did you see him say it's not his fault and that he is not taking responsibility ?

What is arrogant about forfeiting because you're exhausted ? You think if he was as successful as you are (not much) he wouldn't forfeit the tournament, how would you know.

you absolutely make no sense, you're the little kid expressing his pointless opinion

It's arrogant to play in two invite tournaments at the same time resulting in making everybody wait and then forfeiting in the finals. It means you don't give a shit about all these people putting their time and hard work into a succesful esport event.Taking responsibility means finishing what he started because other people would pay for it otherwise. I had a similar situation at Dreamhack when he was out of the group already and cheesed me every game in very stupid ways to finish it as fast as he could, even if it could change the outcome of the group. This kind of attitude is not excusable.

I don t get why TL opened a thread in community news for a player forfeiting a tournament. Are you guys trying to increase drama and hate toward a player ? Is it what TL is for ? This is ridiculous

This is such a trivial thing about such a bad player (standard is Code S ofc) at such a non-prestigious tournament that even ended with only minor penalties. Why so serious?

Hot Bid went over why so serious multiple times. Although I do think each thread needs a "Jump to pro/admin/mod/caster" post button so we can skip the plebian banter and only read the posts of people who have earned their cred.

Only he knows how he felt, and he felt he couldn't play on, even though he was going to probably win $1500.

His sin is he over-committed, and was so good he got the the finals of both tournaments. This isn't a problem for anyone else, if he lost occasionally, or lied, he'd be better off.

Enjoy Stephano while you got him SC2.... drama and all.

fucken this....

some of the shit thrown his way is jokes

I must be one of the few who appreciate him being rather honest and not pulling out a piece of bullshit. Considering the outcome wasn't good for anyone.

And the racist coments abut french people is not necessary : )

Racist comments "abut" french people are always necessary!!

It's totally understandable why he was relegated to 4th and also why he deciede to forfeit. Nobody was really in the wrong here, shit happens.

Cloud said few month ago that stephano and nerchio cheated.. cuz they didnt win offline.

Yeah I know, it's the same guy saying all gypsy people should be killed, he has a very educated and smart opinion about everything.

And he is clearly showing in his post that it's a personal matter with his conflict with stephano in dreamhack which makes more sense

Its frustrating because even if someone makes a really shitty OP like "Liquid sucks now man" we'd have to consider leaving it open even if we'd instantly close an "EG sucks now man" or "Mouz sucks now man" thread, because people get all wound up about perceived bias.

1. If any other non-Liquid player forfeited first round, we'd not make a thread
2. If Tyler or Ret or Zenio or Hero forfeited in the finals for a similar reason as Stephano did, we'd make a thread

You can believe us or not about the truth of these two statements, but that is what we'd do, and if that's the case then there is no hypocrisy here.

As for the newsworthiness of this, of course it's news, it's one of the best if not the best non Korean forfeiting in the finals of a semi-major community organized tournament with a 3k prize pool. It's about as concrete news and notable as it gets.

Did you make a thread about Polt?

We did not make a thread about Polt.

Are you saying we should have? Or that us not making a thread about Polt is somehow unfair? Please clarify. Because I am pretty sure we were right not to make a thread about Polt.

However, if you feel that there is an epidemic of forfeits and it is discussion worthy, you can make a thread about all of them in SC2 General with a nice OP. Did you make a thread about Polt? You can.

I'm just pointing out the fact that this happened to Stephano because he's the "IT" guy right now and this post is feeding the mob.

ONOG and Zotac daily are different in notability, structure (invites vs open) and scale (prize pool / viewers).

I don't buy the "don't feed the mob." If it's a notable topic worthy of discussion (and this clearly qualifies as concrete news), you present facts and that's it. There are plenty of people defending Stephano in this thread as well as those criticizing him.

Do people who are saying "Where's the thread about Tyler or Polt" really believe there should be one? Circumstances matter. This was a much more high profile, bigger event than Zotac, and best foreigner in the finals is not ordinary pro in the first round.

Clearly the latter. Also please make another thread about Tyler forfeiting his two last matches, making CatZ having to play a real match with a legit chance of losing but giving the 2 others in the group a default win. Seems real fair and professionnal. Wonder why Kennigit didnt talk about this one on his Twittter

Didn't know Kennigit's twitter was the official TL twitter.

I really cannot understand how this made the front page, the scale of the tournament is just too small, even if Hot_Bid thinks otherwise. But yeah, I think Stephano handled that very poorly.

nobody gives a shit about the go4sc2 cup. they dont even have LR threads.

Well its unprofessional behaviour so lets raise the topic, We can shit on Stephano, why cant we shit on Polt. Unprofessional is Unprofessional

Unprofessional is unprofessional, but magnitude and significance does matter as well.

Newswise, not ethicswise

Well thats why one made "news" and the others didnt. Good point!

Much of the controversy here is due to failing to think, from an organizer's perspective.

Fanboys, just stop for a moment and put yourself in the position of the organizer. You have fans, sponsors, stream, all these factors that I'm sure you understand is available only for a finite amount of time. As you know, you conduct yourself as bias-free as you can, whether it's a superstar or a no-names playing.

Everyone's time is valuable. When players(who you have an implicit agreement with), fail to uphold their duty, what will the fans think? More importantly, what about your sponsors? What happens when you try to host another tourney in the future? Don't be naive and say "sponsors will be chill" no they won't be. They will remind you of what happened last time, and hold you and your professionalism against it.

The sponsors don't care about Stephano, Tyler, or whoever. They care about the event, the viewer count, etc. If the event's value is decreased due to this or that player ditching out, explain to them why they should care to send their advertising dollars your way?

Again. If you book a player for X period of time, you have a finite amount of time to begin, and complete, the tournament. You can't just reschedule and change everything around just to please one player. If this impacts Empire, Catz, and others because you bent backwards for Stephano, how do you think Empire/Catz fans feel? How do you think the players feel? What if they simply couldn't accommodate Stephano's request? Then punish them?

You guys need to think in terms of an organizer perspective.

i cant believe this thread really. blaming stephano for this? blame the caster for blaming and flaming stephano. ONOG can just fix the match to another day, just simple. stephano is getting 4th? thats just a joke, catz the worst player in this planet is getting 3rd and illusion 2nd? oh wow. i´m so pissed right now.

if a player like stephano, who lives in EU have to play 3 AM...ah well nvm. i´m in rage.

stephano is a awesome guy, fail is this community and ONOG, oh i forgot this fail caster.

sorry for my bad english, hope you understand the most of it.

Im sorry for you because you dont understand anything what happened.

a. stephano decides to participate in an NA tournament by and for NA barcrafters. This tourny was for NA barcrafters. You know that if you play ina a tourny for NA barcrafters that you wont play at normal EU times. You know that you cant delay the freaking final for 1 day if its only for the live audience which made this tournament possible.

b. he was playing at 2 tounraments that day.

c. he came late for 45 minutes

d. he delayed the tournament even after coming late

e. after delaying the tournament twice he thought hit was too late and he wanted to pressure the admins by saying he will forfeit or play another day when the NA barcrafters wont be able to watch at a barcraft cause they are normal ppl that live, work and sleep. no finals would have been a huege upset for all the ppl who donated/worked for this etc

f. he made the admins change the rules several times by saying he wouldnt play anymore if they wouldnt do everything he wanted them to do

so he uses his power (ppl were only watching because of him) to pressure the admins several times, delayed the tournament for a long time and later said it was too late for him. Any tournament organizer would have been pissed sooo freaking much. He is literally abusing his VIP status for pressuring tourament admins and p*ssing on them even though they do as his majesty pleases. I dont get how you cant be mad at such behaviour.
Even though if you dont include other incidents of stephanos history its just not ok for a player to do so. even for a eu player when its 3 AM.

Stephano gave the tournament and ultimatum: either postpone the finals, or I forfeit because I cannot play right now. The tournament decided they could not postpone the finals, leaving the only option to have Stephano forfeit. But being in a tournament is like being in a contract. Leaving means that Stephano loses $600, that's his punishment. Now Stephano has accepted his punishment, so why can we not move along exactly?
