There are real people behind pro-gamer IDs.

And there are real people raising money and going to a barcraft to have a forfeited final match cause one of the players couldn't take responsibility for finishing what he started, without giving a shit on everybody else. This is a major act of disrespect imo.

Should he die near his computer?

He played two tournaments and delayed one of the two to forfeit the finals, the mess is his fault in the first place so he better take responsibility and finish what he started. No need for more spoiled arrogant kids in esports, thanks.

Well I guess then Tyler is another arrogant kid following your logic...

Well said mate

Part of being a 'professional' is avoiding scheduling conflicts, he failed to do so and should (and has) paid the price.

If even money can't motivate him to play games at 3 am what can? I play at 3 am all the time. If you offer me the chance to play against Kas at 3am to win that much money, I would do it, even if I had been awake for days.

I got ya, Hot_Bid. Doesn't seem like it is bias at place here. Over to the case, Stephano seems to be a very blunt guy, and I think this also got to him here a bit. I do agree with the people saying he should know it was going to be late, because both of this tours were planned beforehand(also the schedule).

It is a very common latin quotation, it says 'no fine without a bill'. very fundamental juristiction. think about it. ONOG did an arbitrary punishment to stephano.

He knew this was a possibility when he agreed to participate in two tournaments, and he'd already been accommodated once. Your analogy is laughably inaccurate and does not describe this situation at all.

Lots of people go into making a tournament happen - raising prize money, getting sponsors, advertising it, broadcasting it - all so the player can focus on his job - PLAYING THE GAME. To deliver an ultimatum that you are not feeling like playing anymore and just logging off - exactly how do you think that felt to everyone else who played a part in making the tournament happen? What about the other players who showed up prepared to do their best, and possibly passed on practice/other tournaments to compete in this one? Where is the "golden rule" for them?

Not playing the matches you have ALREADY AGREED to participate in because you don't think you're going to do well is horribly unprofessional.
If you ban me, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

Cloud has a right to be unhappy. It's tough as it is to be a progamer, and when players like Stephano and Tyler who get invited to participate in tournaments with prize money and decent viewership over other players (Cloud included) and then drop out, it's a disgrace and unprofessional.

Wow... Maybe Stephano is a douche, maybe he is not, but anyway this news seems really unnecessary to me, like all the drama that has started before btw.

This thread is like a hidden hater post : "Look how stephano is bad mannered, pls more hate on him".

And don't tell me its a thread to inform people, because there is no information from this thread.

yeah and also remember the naniwa incident? let's say stephano is so tired he doesn't care about the money any more and he cheese all-ins in every game and looses.

then what are people going to say? omg stephano noob, allin, cheese etc. I think it's actually better this way

if you are saying arbitrary because there was no precedent or written rules, i agree with you.

if you are saying arbitrary because it was not thought out and logical, then i would have to disagree with you. the tournament was for the barcrafts and fans. him dropping out at the last minute because he was tired was not acceptable to them and they handled it the best way they could think of. the fact that he got any prize money shows that they were considering the best result for all people.

Polt forfeited Go4sc2 I think or other cup, I dont see why people making this such a huge deal, pro-gamers forfeit or cheese (to basically forfeit) matches all the time everywhere...

The logic to this whole thing seems very straightforward to me.

1) Is Stephano leaving without playing the finals a bad outcome? Yes
2) Is it reasonable for a live program to delay its finals to the next day? No
3) Did Stephano knowingly double book himself? Yes

The fault is clear as day. I guess tournaments need to start advertising common sense rules like "during these hours you may only participate in our event".

Its frustrating because even if someone makes a really shitty OP like "Liquid sucks now man" we'd have to consider leaving it open even if we'd instantly close an "EG sucks now man" or "Mouz sucks now man" thread, because people get all wound up about perceived bias.

1. If any other non-Liquid player forfeited first round, we'd not make a thread
2. If Tyler or Ret or Zenio or Hero forfeited in the finals for a similar reason as Stephano did, we'd make a thread

You can believe us or not about the truth of these two statements, but that is what we'd do, and if that's the case then there is no hypocrisy here.

As for the newsworthiness of this, of course it's news, it's one of the best if not the best non Korean forfeiting in the finals of a semi-major community organized tournament with a 3k prize pool. It's about as concrete news and notable as it gets.

I don't think I could have been invited anyway, I am just tired of all this arrogant selfish attitude that is growing out of many progamers lately. I mean think at everybody waiting for him eating and playing another tournament just to be told he would forfeit if they wouldn't postpone, it was just terrible.

why does this need a thread (highlighted in the front page, to boot)? Do we really need more e-drama on this site?

Still, I do think Stephano was in the wrong here. He had to know he was over-scheduled since he requested an extension (which was granted) so he could finish up the SCAN tournament. To ask for an extension once, and then ask for an extension to the following day is pretty unfair to the organizers as well. I guess this is just something all pro-players are gonna have to be smart about when signing up for several tournaments at the same time.

Stephano is the poster-child of your stereotypical, "immature 16 year old". Not only this, going back on coL deal, along with him being known for BM/complaining after games. (Reminiscent of IdrA).

I really dislike him.

What Polt did was also unprofessional, but I think the difference is the fact that the online cups are largely open to everyone, while the ONOG was invite only.
