Please read the big blue thing at the top. This is a Pre-Season tournament. In other words, you can consider this as a side project from MLG just like AoL and GSL

That is only for the live event in NY.

There is no LAN w/o any spectators. This will be an offline regional qualifier for each region (Kind of like what NASL does I guess), followed by an all expenses paid trip to a Live event with an audience in NY

If they have any amount of seats I'm almost sure they'll get filled being in NYC.

Read a bit more carefully, it clearly says "The Winter Arena will be live streamed for your viewing pleasure, but there will not be a live spectator component." Winter Arena is the actual event in NY, not the online qualifiers. This event also acts as a qualifier/seeder-tournament for the real event which is called "Winter Championship" which will be in Columbus, Ohio a month later.

Very poor choice by Sundance I feel, hosting the Winter Championship at the same exact time as Assembly Winter
|
10k first place is still weak with the type of numbers MLG pulls
|
Makes me sad there wont be a live aspect to the Winter Arena; that would be a Competition I could go to! D:

Good thing is that it is only part of the preseason

If I wasn't a less suspicious man I'd be wondering how there managed to be several major scheduling conflicts already.
Interesting stuff regardless, hopefully things are good even without a live audience for a part of it.

I like this format.
Top 8 from last Championship invited + qualifiers into Arena. Arena awards spots into pool play for the Next Championship.
Rewards past performance but keeps the rewards to the most recent event and they still have to qualify for Pool Play in the Arena.
