A lot of tournaments are bad, but some are good and those should be mentioned. I know that playhem, which hosts tournaments giving more than $100 every day of the week always pays out within one day of the tournament.

Just wondering if this is in anyway impacted with the teams players are on? Like do any of the teams help their players with recieving money and fighting back against organizations that don't pay?

This really needs to be addressed, hats off to organisations like MLG who pay out their prizes so quickly.

This has been happening in esports for ever, players not getting paid. This is a very sad issue and THIS is really killing esports.

Imho all the players should gather and form somewhat of an association, the G7Teams was a good start but it looks like they almost never done anything (i think i remember one instance when they stood up but that's pretty much it in several years of existence).

I wish all event will pay, and do it quick. Players and teams have to pressure the organizer hard. I'd rather see less tournaments and more proffessionalism all around.

I can't imagine being a semi-pro and trying to break through the competition : you have almost no money/regular income, and you have to allocate all your time to gaming hoping to make some good places in tournament that will not pay you before 6 month. This is just not possible for the scene to grow.

Those problems raise the fact there is no authority in esports, there isn't a non-profit organisation in charge of making sure everything goes well like in any other sport, instead of that we have a hudge mess where everybody does his own thing and above all we have one thing : make the sponsors happy. This is not a suitable environement for esports to grow.

This big problem in e-sport and its not new. Im shocked that ESL is a part of this, a well-rounded organization, with big sponsors that host big events around the world, well equipped tech teams and studios ect.

Players that live from playing should unite, if there is a tournament and there is slight chance that they will not pay the money or did that in past tournaments, then no one will play in them (boycott), at least no those top caliber players.

Anyways this suck a lot, and I would really like to see Carmac explanation why ESL is so behind on payment... Since now I dont like ESL

I've read about this kind of nonsense before. It's good to see some pro's coming out and sticking up for it. There needs to be a solution to the problem.

Note from IGN: We paid out everyone from IPL season 1, and we are aware that certain players from IPL 2 have not yet received their winnings. IPL 2's grand final aired on August 14th, not even 90 days ago. We have everyone's financial information from IPL 2 and the current word is that checks/Paypal transfers should be ready to go within the week.

One thing about IGN Pro League that people may not consider is that we are not just 1 guy with $1000 laying around that we can just dump in someone's account the moment they win a bo5. IGN is a massive organization that we are just one part of, and we have to adhere to all of the federal regulations that are invoked when dealing with paying thousands of dollars to (as far as the law is concerned) international contractors. We have a finance department that must be satisfied with its paperwork before we can give out money. Not only this, but our players were informed that there would be a wait involved when we collected their payment information.

I'm sorry to hear that ClouD, Darkforce, and others have been waiting a long time for a lot of money, but trust me, IGN Pro League has every intent of paying everyone, even down to translators for online qualifiers, what they are owed. =)

Was recently wondering about this, not surprised it's this bad.

Not sure how orga's like G7 managed to fare for their players, but teams may benefit from getting together and taking organised action against shit like this. I think that until the top of the scene starts boycotting shitty organisers, not much is going to change.

If you can't pay the prize from cups 3 months ago, stop fucking organising new ones after new ones.

Anyway. Feeling especially sorry for those players who actually depended on that income.

Hope it gets solved boys.

Is it unrealistic to expect money to be paid at the event?

Also don't your teams have managers and stuff you can go to to help you get paid faster?

IMHO if you are going to organize events then you shouldn't ever do another event until you can pay money for the previous one. The problems will just keep compounding and you will turn into esl

Can we all agree that MLG is the best tournament there is?

MLG isn't the best tournament, just because they pay faster. Their tournament system is still unfair, and people get no chances of proving themselves, unless they are in pools already, and winning pools is worth too much. Sure, it seems MLG is quite proffesional about this, so is GSL, but rating the best tournament, is from the entertainment value, not the background.

I've had similar experiences, many online tourneys don't pay up or do it very late, in particular the Polarfluke tourneys have been very slow with paying their prizes.

ROFL of course they're gonna pay when they have the lowest prize pool of every live event ever (and many online events)

Not when you consider the other games as well. Halo had a $100,000 prize to first for the last few years at nationals and I've never heard any complaints about it getting paid out. My friend also won prize money from MLG and it was paid out within a few weeks. I bet it will be the same for the $50,000 first place in Providence as well.

It's important that we increase awareness of extremely late / total lack of payments by tournament organizers. If SC2 is to approach a level of professionalism that is respectable by international sports, then these issues need to be addressed.
