Protoss units have always been about micro for me, and having a shield battery allow units to tank damage doesn't go along with that vibe.

This doesn't make sense, because it would just get EMP'd like the rest of the army? The shield regen might be a passive aura or with a cooldown rather than an energy cost. Only complaint with the idea of an aura is that it feels too much like an Obsidian Statue from WC3.

this is just a scourge made of metal

ummmm, id guess stargate, but who knows, warp prisms come from robo and they are most certainly air.

not another ***** useless air unit, if it does not have better harass options than the phoenix im done playing protoss.

This one is more obvious that the other two. Def some sort of corsair-ish unit, no surprises here
|
My guess is an air unit for harassing purposes. Blizzard said we needed some type of raider. ^^ or... the void ray gets replaced because it's a retarded unit imho.

The electricity being included implies that it's a part of the model, rather than an attack like the corsair.

looks like a support unit from the robo. How can you guys be so sure it's a stargate unit. doesn't the sentry hover as well? I can't see it coming from the robo, the design just seems to clunky for a ground unit. No more clunky than the reaver or dragoon.
Ok, so clunky was a bad word. In a not-so-elegantly worded explanation, the new unit just takes up too much space, with too much empty space, for it to really look like a ground unit. The way its curved "wings" look, it would function much better as a flying unit than a hovering unit. The Reaver and Dragoon units both took up a lot of space, but that space had a purpose. The Reaver took up a lot of space for its individual segments, and it looked like a slug; the Dragoon took up a lot of space because of its spread-out leg structure.
If this is really a ground/hover unit, what is the purpose of the wide-arcing "wings" it has? They really have no function other than as wings or as holding/generating the energy that we can see in the silhouette, but it's already established that Protoss has spheres like those the Sentry use that hold energy much more compactly and effectively.

Maybe it's some kind of air to ground bomber? Warping in bombs through that energy like area between the wings?

This is something I was really leaning toward. A flying unit with an AOE non-spell attack would be unique for every race (if you don't count the Glaive Wurm as AOE).

It's the upgraded model for the interceptors.

I can't see this kind of ability being passive, though. I'd expect anything that heals to use up energy in some way.

L O L please tell me you're trolling. gotta love someone complaining that PROTOSS AIR isnt good enough x D and we're getting ANOTHER air unit. GG!

My take on it as a new Stargate unit.
I'd have to hazard a guess that it acts as a slow moving bomber with no native attack. Produces something akin to scarabs and drops them straight down with high damage and light splash -- Some desperately needed AOE down the Stargate tech tree.
Then, in order to make the Carrier more useful it has some upgrades at the Stargate that help it stay powerful into the later game. e.g., a toggleable speed boost that disables Scarab production and other abilities, or a technological version of Maelstrom to add some soft-detection.

I mean the units for the other races seemingly morph or transform it only makes since this one does also. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/au1vc.jpg) This picture shows key features of the Phoenix that could change into features on the new unit. The wings simply bend forward to create the more arched look of the new units "wings". The cockpit area of the phoenix slides back when it changes into the new unit. The area circled in red on the phoenix changes into either of the sets of red circles on the new unit. The area boxed in orange on the phoenix folds down into the area circled in orange on the new unit. This is possibly where the weapon is housed. The yellow circle on the phoenix spreads apart into the yellow circles on the new unit. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/vdfdh.jpg) What does everyone think?

It is clearly a substitute or a transformation for the phoenix, almost 100% sure now

i vote for arbiter replacement so air spellcaster!

I don't see it as a transformation or morph at all - that kind of thing is purely for Zergs.
While Terran get the Viking and the Seige tank, which can switch "modes", they don't really get an upgrade turning one unit into a "better" unit, and I highly doubt Protoss will either.

omg a counter to mutalisks maybe? :o
dustin browder promised protoss a harassment unit (raider unit in his words) that doesnt get hard countered by detection so maybe this is it? but looks more to me like a sentry for air units.
im hoping its a harassment unit tho, the last thing toss needs is more units that rely on spells to dictate whether u win or lose an engagement -_-
