I think the main difference is though that you can almost always watch VODs after a Starcraft event, but in other sports events it's almost always impossible.
Is the « spoiler fear » hurting E-sports ? - Page 3

We are currently talking about this issue in the mod forum. We take this issue very seriously, and want to find the best way to serve those who want faster results, and those that don't wish to be spoiled.

On nasl website you have the possibility to choose spoiler free or not, so maybe a same thing could solve the problem. But for a news website like tl I think it would be horribly hard to put in place.

If they want a web site where results aren't openly discussed, they should make their own little niche web site and leave this one alone. Not sure if sarcasm.... but I agree with the sentiment regardless. Having to wait weeks to readup the post-tournament articles, which in my opinion are amazing, is a little silly just because of spoiler fear.

The people that can watch VoDs after the tournament is over is significant or a majority, depending on the tournament. The Superbowl does not have VoDs. The people that missed but can rewatch the Superbowl is a tiny tiny minority. Hence why people care about spoilers. That isn't the full explanation. Spoiler protection is there for people who want to browse TL.net between the time when the match they want to watch has aired and when they watch the VODs. What are they reading that interests them more than watching the actual content? Anyone who reads TL without watching anything obviously doesn't care about being spoiled. Anyone who reads TL to supplement their VOD watching has no reason to read TL if they haven't watched the VODs.

But do you feel it necessary to flaunt the results of something many people would not like to be spoiled? He suggests having it be the first thing you see on TL. It's one thing complaining about the spoilers in an article or thread about the tournament finals, but another being spoiled because you wanted to check out the general section when you have not been able to watch the games yet. I think TL is about a lot more than SC for many, and I don't have the oppurtunity to watch most games until the day after or even longer in most cases. Should I completely miss out on everything else TL offers me in the meanwhile if I don't want to be spoilered?

If you haven't watched it within that time frame it the seeing the results is probably not life or death for you. Cause barring extraordinary circumstances, if your life revolves around your fandom you will have see the game in a 12-24hour time frame from the original airing. Like the main lines under the headline are "Starcraft Progaming News" I don't know what is more relevant to that than the actual results. Having a headline like Slayers leading 4-3 in the GSTL finals Right Now-----Join the livechat. Seems like a no brainer to me, but either way TL is still the best site for Starcraft.

We're in the SC2 forum here. If your interests lie elsewhere, then they lie elsewhere. Honestly anyone who would rather read the General forum than watch VOD's doesn't deserve any special treatment at the expense of everyone else.

Spoiler for 24 hours is good! In addition to the obvious World Cup /Olympics exceptions (since it's only once every 4 years for each), a lot of people enjoy sports that are either not popular where they're from, or has one or more league(s) that are extremely popular which air at inconvenient hours. For example, any non-american fan of the NFL/NBA, or any american/asian fan of the PL or La Liga. Several Premier League teams, for example, have enormous fanbases in Asia despite their games airing at awkward hours.

Edit: I go to TL for much more than e-sports, I do not wish to HAVE to watch games without being spoiled. Then the games become a chore I have to do, or get spoiled. Also I do not believe I am part of a 5% group, I believe a lot more people don't want to be spoilered. Yet we still want to be able to go to TL for other reasons. He's talking about JUST the finals though, not the Ro16 or Ro8. You'd be fine normally in that aspect. I wholeheartedly love this idea actually. I went on vacation this weekend and totally forgot about IPL3 and honestly didn't find anything about it until today when i had to dig through tons of crap to find it.

If you go to TL, Reddit, Twitter, etc and get spoilered, it's your own fault. It's exactly the same for any TV show, movie, game, book, etc. I've never understood the "spoilers don't matter" argument though. There is clearly a drop in emotional investment if you already know the outcome of an event. Any kind of tension or drama is completely lost. Which kind of makes watching the whole thing redundant unless you are only watching for the technical aspect. Exactly, as long as there is a way to get to the lineup of VODs without getting spoilered, then there's no reason for TL to be under the fear of "Spoiler that happiness" oppression.

For example, when posting in Strategy forum one can't freely talk about a build used in the GSL today or yesterday without some wise guy replying "thanks for spoiling GSL dude...".

This thread doesnt even offer discussion points, we know it's just gonna be various forms of"i like spoilers" and "i dont like spoilers" theres nothing to discuss, this is personal preferance and nothing more, do you really think people will change their mind about it if you make a thread? If you really wanted to change something you would suggest it to the TL mods in the site feedback section http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/index.php?show_part=7 Ultimately this thread is just a "i dont liek something, who wants to whine with me" thread
