2: E-sports have a much higher coverage in VOD form than normal sports, most people in EU cannot watch US or KR events live, so we watch a VOD when we have a chance, so yes, it is nice not to be spoiled. However, I do agree that it can be very annoying to see people complain about being spoilered when they come onto a starcraft NEWS site.

Except the Europeans don't care about K-League or J-League in football very much. But generally every region will play games during convenient hours for them. We've had football World Cups aired in all the weird hours as well when they were taking place on another continent.

For SC2 if you missed an event you can get VODs and replays, but you have to come to TL most of the time to find them.

Why would you read the comments before watching the match? There is not one valid reason to do so, and if you get spoiled via that, you're dumb. Some of us have giant ass high resolution monitors and read so fast that scanning the text automatically means it's read. Well yeah, I had to remember making my browser small before going the gom website every time, and if I forgot, it could be annoying to be spoiled ...

We have VoDs. People want to watch the VoDs. The people that can watch VoDs after the tournament is over is significant or a majority, depending on the tournament. The Superbowl does not have VoDs. The people that missed but can rewatch the Superbowl is a tiny tiny minority. Hence why people care about spoilers.

This thread is mostly adressing the lack of epic headlines after the finals of a tournament, the spamming of forum threads in relation to it is a whole other subject.

1. SC2 is still small. Up till now, we've only been looking at a very small number of tournaments, and only at a relatively few players at that. Sure at events like MLG I doubt many people will mind that being "spoiled" on some results since there's a huge amount of games showed in a small amount of time, but if you look at GSL, there's only so few players bringing that highest level of skill right now. When there's not much to look forward to, we try to keep the excitement in it to the most for ourselves. 2. SC2 matches are decided in a series of games. In other words, knowing the scores removes any tension left in a game before the end of the series. This is very different from sports like soccer, football or hockey where 1 game holds a much greater significance. I think the "spoiler fear" will naturally go away when SC2 grows and there's more and more players to look at.

The sooner people start putting huge banners showing the results the better. It's stupid that just because someone wants to feel (false) excitment over a result that's already happenned, everyone else has to search everywhere for the results of said tournament / game. People that want spoilers are indeed spoiled. If they don't want to know the results, just don't go to SC forums / news. Making everyone else go through troubles of extra clicks and wasting time for searching is being spoiled and egoistic. I know if my football team played yesterday and i was one of those that prefer false excitement i'd have not go to any sports news websites and avoid looking to sports newspapers headlines. Headlines.

Their habits are weird enough for the rest of us to not care about them and they are obviously the minority. If they want a web site where results aren't openly discussed, they should make their own little niche web site and leave this one alone. I agree, I would love for TL to be more esports involved and not be page vacant due to the spoiler fear

Btw, I am quite intelligent.

StarCraft 2 is the same way for me: I enjoy the games themselves, regardless of whether I know the results of the tournaments. Often I end up watching the VODs later on and have already had the results spoiled - still exciting to me. In fact, I just recently rewatched the Dreamhack Summer 2011 Grand Finals again (HuK <3!) and the games were still exciting even though I knew the results. But I know that a lot of people are very adverse to spoilers. The medium of E-Sports is gonna have to find a way to promote its winners and epic tournaments while letting the spoiler-adverse people still get enjoyment out of it. I say some sort of alternate main page, like an option in your account that says "Spoilers Off" that opens a different main page.

Though personally I dont like trying to dig through posts in the forum to see results. Hearing who won before I watch the VOD doesnt spoil the game for me.

I've never understood the "spoilers don't matter" argument though. There is clearly a drop in emotional investment if you already know the outcome of an event. Any kind of tension or drama is completely lost. Which kind of makes watching the whole thing redundant unless you are only watching for the technical aspect.
