Sorry, if though this site is teamliquid, I just cannot understand why you would include Tyler or Haypro over him. Okay, Tyler won a set more than him and Haypros game difference is one point better than his. But they were in three different groups so you cannot really compare that so in detail. On the other hand, NASL has stated that they do consider recent results (see qxc, softball, etc) and GoOdy's recent results outshine the other two by far. a) goody was in season 1 one didn't qualify for season 2 b) goody is far from beeing a top progamer. I don't even understand why he got invited in the first place c) he did't produce any results lately

a) neither did Tyler or Haypro b) + c) http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/sc2-international/players/1221_GoOdy (7 golds, 3 silver, 1 bronze out of tournaments last month)

You kind of have to take in consideration the kinds of tournaments those players competed in. The tournaments Goody placed in had much weaker in competition, prestige, and prize money.
Your original argument even pointed out that despite Tyler and Haypro slightly outperforming Goody in NASL they were in different groups, so why the double standard on tournament results?
Besides how do you even know if Goody just didn't want to go back for whatever reason? Nani seemed to have problems with it, it's not inconceivable that other pro players do as well.

Hm, I don't get the double standard thing, I am just pointing out facts:
- Tyler and Haypro slightly outperforming GoOdy in the NASL, though different groups. - GoOdy outperforming them in recent tournaments results by far (Tyler has no tournament medals at all, Haypro's last tournament medal was in January, while GoOdy won over half a dozen cups just last month.) - NASL takes recent accomplishments into considering (see qxc, softball, HwangSin)
So they basically say that GoOdy's impressive performance lately does not outweight the better performance of Tyler or even the miniscule (repeat: one scoredifference better, same number of won sets) better performance of both Haypro in the NASL, which I kind of find unreasonable.

Double Standards? Uhm.. Goody plays a ton of tournaments and does extremly well. Tyler did decent in MLG's open bracket and.. yeah... Depending on which players you hit in the MLG open bracket it isn't harder then a weekly cup (if you don't hit a korean)... Just click on them and look at the players there. I just checked Tylers open bracket run at Raleigh... He beat a grand total of 1 name that rang a small bell for me (Inka) and then lost to Hero, after that he just won against ostojiy, which is only known for being invited to the Blizzcon NA qualifier and Incontrol daring to make fun of him... What a staggering run, what a tough field!... ...
But well... No worth arguing this anyway and we don't know if he actually wanted to play . It will still be an awesome season :D.
But anyway, it's pretty simple: If Haypro wouldn't be on TL, he would most probably not be in the NASL. If Tyler wouldn't be from NA and/or on TL, he would most probably not be in the NASL.
Oh, another little fact: If you take the Koreans out of the MLG the competition there is not anything in anyway special when compared to other medium/big tournaments. Whiteout the koreans, at least at raleigh, the competition would have been pretty weak.

By the way, just wanted to add that in recent tournaments last month, GoOdy beated several players invited to the nasl some of the repeatedly.
|
Naniwa not competing cos of personal reasons? with so many koreans not likely to return, some foreigners could actually pull an upset here and not let top 6 go to korea again -_-

Pretty nice Hypethread!
Hopefully, a few Koreans, maybe some from FXO, TL or EG etc will show up... But it was kinda weird cuz of lag-issues, so I'm not too sad and will definitely watch it!^^
Btw. why no Goody? He's in good shape atm.

You guys should consider popularity as well. NASL wants ratings and they want people to buy subs. Goody is surely a popular player but nowhere near as popular as Tyler and Haypro. They are all three good players but notoriety does mean something in the SC2 community.
Granted I'm a little biased, Tyler has been my favorite player since he was rocking nony as his tag, but still, not inviting Tyler would be way more offensive to way more people than not inviting goody. Tyler and Haypro are super popular and that does count for something.

Thanks for the post bringing light to this! So many big names to replace the Koreans!
Keep it up NASL!

Tyler, yes sure, NA factor, state of the game, popularity, community guy.... I get that. I like him too and i'm kinda sad he is not doing better and hope that will change (or he retires and focusses on some community thing...).
But Haypro? Aside from his clantag? Why and how is he "deserving" his spot more than A LOT of others?

Puma Hero Rain?
These two are without korean training: Moonan? Select?
Koreans won't dominate top 6, there won't be even 6 koreans......
You could say it's upset already :D

Most of EU's weekly online cups are at least as hard as the open bracket at MLG (apart from the one or two top Koreans in it maybe), which is the only tournament i saw Tyler competing in lately. In pretty much all of Goody's successful tournament runs, he has beaten one or more players, that are way superior to anyone Tyler won against at MLG.

Well the "Liquid" tag carries a lot of weight, just as the EG tag does.
You are right, Goody deserves a spot in NASL. Other players deserve spots as well. Some of the players that got invited probably deserve it less than others. This is who the NASL has picked though and that's who we get to see compete in some awesome sc2 action over the course of 2+ months.
I'm *sure* the NASL wishes they could invite every deserving player, but they just can't. And who knows, if they have the open tournament again, maybe Goody can play through that and still be in the final bracket.
|
Some very strong europeans not included, where's nerchio, stephano, goody, Kas, ToD, elfi, beastyqt, happy, tarson (not to mention naniwa, thorzain, sase - but they may have declined)? Pity, NASL had a chance to make the strongest "outside-of-korea" tournament of all. It's still good, but it could have been great.

So many Koreans gone, but this line-up still looks amazing!

S2 actually starting to look better than S1 :o?!

You right. They should ban Blizzards games in Korea, ESPORTS would bloom then...
