First, we want to thank the Team Liquid community for all the great feedback we received in our last academy thread! We went back to the drawing board to address the community's concerns and have come up with something that we think addresses the issues brought up in the last thread.
Before we get into the details, I want to share the best part: To show our dedication to this endeavor, we're going to send our top performing academy member to MLG Providence, covering the hotel and entry fee for the event (travel will be covered starting in the 2012 season). Additionally, we will be sending our top performing academy member to each of the four MLG events next year, covering travel (or offsetting travel expenses up to $400), hotel and entry fees. Top performance is determined by a tournament that will be held prior to each event with the winner going to MLG. In addition to a one-in-six chance of winning a trip to compete at MLG, our academy members can expect the following benefits:
- Weekly replay analysis from some of vVv Gaming's top players (such as vVvTime and vVvNGry), - Monthly coaching from top vVv Players (vVv Time and vVv Titan) - Scheduled practice times - Scheduled time to go over pro replays with other Academy members - Regular Clan Wars with similarly ranked teams to provide competitive experience for our members
The vVv academy will consist of six members from North America. Acceptance into the academy will be determined by a quarterly BO3 double-elimination tournament . Academy members from previous quarters are welcome to reapply. The first tournament will be held on September 23rd through 25th. For our pilot run, the size of the tournament will be limited to 32 people. If more than 32 players apply, we will adjust for next season and choose the applicants to participate based on:
- Ladder rank - Quality of application - Twitter / facebook / livestream / youtube (all social media) - Race (must pick zerg, terran, or protoss)
The first tournament to determine who goes to MLG Providence will be held October 28th through 30th. This tournament will be arranged into two pools of three players each, with the top finishers from each pool going head to head for the prize. All games will be BO3. To help offset the cost of travel for our first event to Providence, we will also be providing the winner with a Steelseries mouse, keyboard, headset, and mousepad.
Please post your application to the academy here: http://www.vvv-gaming.com/forum/topic/51921-players-applying-to-the-academy/ Application deadline is Sept 15th.
Again, we want to thank the Team Liquid community for your feedback. Please let us know what we can do better.

This sounds like a much better format than what you guys had previously announced, very similar to how coL is running their Academy, great work!

Sorry, for now we are only accepting applications from North America.

Now this sounds professional. Good luck to vVv. Way to go.

Wow, this sounds like a really awesome revision! Best of luck with it, and hope you find some great new players you can eventually add to your permanent roster!

Very nice! Good job and good luck!

:O why not random? so if guniepig decided to app to our academy he couldn't? Anyways, this is a completely academy and the added benefits are really nice. vVv Fighting!

gj and props to the top manager from the last vvv academy thread. He does it right not like this sugerbear fellow. Good luck vVv

Sounds cool. Wish I had the time to participate but as it is getting in 5 ladder games a day is about my max :/

this is so much better than the first thing, good job listening to the feedback, obviously if so many people voiced their negative opinion, it meant something was wrong, and you changed it.

That's an interesting thought. Maybe we should let random players apply to the academy? I think we just assumed that most random players pick 1 race to play competitively, but perhaps there are some who compete as random?
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Awesome, glad to see that vVv can listen to all the negative community feedback and come out with something that looks like a great resource for top masters/teamless grandmaster players.
|
I like either way, and I'll always support vVv for what they encourage and support their members with. Wishing you guys the best~
I should join just so I can get coaching time with Titan, omgosh. <3
+ Show Spoiler +YOU HAVE TO HAVE SOCIAL MEDIA?!?! -_-;; I'm sure people will find someway to complain about this, I assume the next thing people are going to start claiming is it's stealing from coL acad or something ridiculous. I really hope not though. ㅠ.ㅠ

Mad props to vVv gaming. Thanks for listening to the community. I really like the structure and formant of the new and improved academy. Keep up the good work.

As long as the coaches are fine with it, I don't see a problem. It might be difficult for the coaches because they would have to coach all three races of the random players.

Is there a age restriction for the academy? Edit: Age restriction is 16+ from what I read on the application page. TT half a year off.. so hard for teens/kids to get opportunities.

There are some rare unicorns who can play random equally and at a high level. There have been games played in the GSL and other big tournies where a player chooses random. However these people are so rare that it becomes solid advice to tell players to race pick. There are a lot of random players who think they are not handicapping themselves when they really are. There are relatively few players who can pull it off.
Therefore it is still solid advice to tell everyone to pick a damn race and really refine those three matchups.

Excellent.. I was happy to apply to the academy prior to this revision simply for the access to practice partners and a tie into potential salaried full time play for a team down the road, but this looks MUCH better.
