This is not something that will become harder the longer you work at it. You show up, don't screw up and will probably end up getting more rewards either in pay or responsibilities as you move up the job ladder. Being a successful progamer, outside of a few anomalies like Nestea, is not something that most people will be able to work at for the rest of their life as a means of supporting themselves (and their families). If HuK is treating what he does as not only his passion but also his career, then this seems like absolutely the right move to do. He gets paid a "life changing" amount and gets to practice in Korean with Idra and Puma. Seems like a good deal to me. 2. There is absolutely some amount of money that can compensate for what Liquid has to offer. It might depress you, but money is absolutely important. You're not yet done with your studies so I guess you're in college, right? Sorry to burst your bubble but that "large company with lots of moniez"? If they offer you a large enough pay bump over the smaller company you are, in all likelihood, going to take that offer. So would most people in that position. HuK is doing what's best for him and, honestly, as his fan that's something that makes me happy. I don't want him taking a significant cut in pay just to stay with a team that has more fans. He's still HuK, just EG.HuK instead of Liquid.HuK. So long as he doesn't change his attitude towards practice, his general work ethic and his sense of humor, I'll always be a HuK fan To add to your wonderful response, we dont really know Huks financial situation either, so its hard for us to say "he only did it for the money." Every pro gamer strives for success both on a financial and competitive level, Huk has the wonderful opportunity to continue to do both. Well i think his competitive level will definitely decline, but by how much is the real question.
No one can really deny that his training wont be as solid with just idra and puma then it would be if he stayed at the OGS house training. Idra's skill has definitely declined since he left korea to the point where its hard to say if hes even code a level, and Puma although winning NASL and beating some code s players along the way, has not really shown much consistency yet. We will have to wait and see.

EG will also be looking to send more players over the practice house. Progress isn't linear just because you go to Korea and go to a teamhouse. Not everyone that lives over there is successful just because they got a Korean team, their own personal work ethic matters just as much. No one forces you to practice hard and it's part of why Huk has won more. He committed personally to becoming better along with Idra and Puma now. Their teamhouse isn't complete.

they have Tyler. If Tyler practised as much as Huk does, he'd own Huk using only his left hand.

They could and probably will totally cash in by giving him a code A spot and selling "the return of the gracken" He will get a code a spot from his last MLG im pretty sure. How did he place again? it was fairly decent i think ,and huk and Naniwa dont need them, so im pretty sure greg will get a code a spot. I think he realised that even while being in korea, with goms flexible schedule, he can still attend every tournament, and be a much better player because hes focused in korea. Honestly im happy about Idra going back to korea, his performance has been so dissapointing in the west, and he surely isnt considered the best foreigner anymore (or really in the top 5 anymore IMO) hopefully he will redeem himself with some hard training in korea. I still am unstoked about huk leaving TL though, i think that was a stupid move on his part, there is no way hes gonna get the same quality of training that he would in the OGS house. EG just cant provide that without buying a whole korean team.
Idra was right behind HuK and Naniwa at MLG Anaheim. He placed 9th.
I think the debate about the relative quality of practice partners is an interesting one. Puma is definitely a beast and, as his series against MC demonstrated, he has a solid knowledge of TvP. HuK best matchup, statistically, is PvT so hopefully this means that he'll become a real beast at it and the same for Puma.
Idra placed 4th at MLG Columbus and 9th at Anaheim. He's certainly not in as much of a "slump" as people make him out to be. I don't think he's at the level of oGsZenio or other upper-mid tier Korean Zergs, but I think he'll be a good practice partner and, with his analytical skills, should get the most out of having 2 good practice partners of each of the other races.
All I've heard about Puma is that he's a beast of a player, which NASL Finals showed and that, even outside of TSL he was one of the most requested practice partners. I think that so long as he keeps practicing this should stay the same.
Keep in mind that it's not like HuK won't be able to get practice games against people in oGs ever again. Much like Korean teams do now, I don't think oGs or any other Korean team would turn down a practice request from HuK, Puma or Idra.

I still think the Huk will decline because hes moving out is a poor argument. Heres why:
1. His work ethic has proven to be world class. 2. His motivation to improve has been very well documented.
I completely agree that training in the oGs house has helped him but its not because of oGs or TL, its because his determination allowed him to milk the opportunity. Not to bash the others but Ret, Tlo, haypro, and even Jinro now, havent been able to be as successful. Even within the deep team of oGs, there are only a few successful players. MC being the leader by far and code S players like top, nada, zenio and maybe supernova but beyond that their roster lacks a lot of consistency as well. Im not going to be naive and say that its a coincidence or that Huk is simply the lucky one. He is where he is because he trains 12 hour days.
If his work ethic and his determination doesnt change, theres no reason to believe he will decline at all. Especially because his relationships with the oGs guys appear to be very solid, I doubt they'll abandon him now.

I saw a comment on how someone is gonna have to choose between a big corporation job that pays well and a smaller job in his passion. That's different than huks case because he is still doing the same job, getting paid, but just on a different team. Any pro would be silly to turn that offer down.

WOOHOOOOOOOOOO
Cannot wait to see the new EG in action

Fuck EG their own players keep getting worse and worse so now they have to buy everybody elses players out to try and stay competitive. What a joke. Huk was my favorite player but i'm pulling all of my support and its going to Sheth. I hope he changed his name from Liquid'Huk to EGSellout.
Liquid will always be better than EG, I dont care how many players EG has to buy out.

I hope they partner with an existing Korean team to live and play with Koreans. I don't think a three man teamhouse makes too much economic sense, will you have a coach/maid(maybe)/translator for a three man team?.
Assuming they do partner lets look at the potential candidates
Ruling out teams first
Teams with Foreign partnerships oGs MVP FXO Prime (sorta)
Teams they probably aren't on good terms with TSL
So
Hoseo WemadeFox IM SlayerS Startale ZeNEX
Hmmmm

i went from a job working in a skateboard store, which is my passion, to working selling nuts and bolts, which i dont give a shit about. i make about 2000$ more per month at my real job. It was a no brainer once i got my first pay cheque, and to be honest i got sick of talking about skating after like the first few weeks at the skate shop.

sad to see Huk leave Liquid, and it'll be interesting to see how Idra does given that players like Jinro (who was with him in Code S before), Boxer (who cleaned out his group at MLG, Idra included), Thorzain, Naniwa, Fenix and Sase all got knocked out of Code A this season. gonna be a brutal climb that's for sure.
|
Do you seriously think oGs guys will give him the same amount of support and help him practice? -_-
There is always cross-team practice for specific matchups, but you'll always be second choice to in-team schedule and it isn't the same level of feedback/support as you'd get from teammates.
Why would MC practice with HuK over HerO now? No reason at all (unless he has extra time).

Hmmmm Its not the EG way to have partnerships. Chances are they just have plans on picking up more players. Which isn't a bad thing, as long as there isn't another clock!
