I write this thread in concern because the OP's intent the thread below
'translate oppinion of Korean sc2 teams about nasl' is dubious http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=253928
I would like to point out the problems on the thread above
1. The article itself is NOT an official statement nor opinion of SC2con (organisations). However, the OP writes in the thread. I'm sorry about my title to SC2Korean team. It actually SC2Team organazation's opinion. So It may not contain all team's opinion(ex Slayers, FXO) but actually it's close to opinion of SC2Teams
This article justifies the Koreans not participating in NASL by painting NASL in a very negative light. One of the claims is that NASL is a 'league ran by amateurs.' This is because it was written by a reporter in ThisIsGame.com
http://www.thisisgame.com/board/view.php?category=13439&id=736266 This is the original article.
2. The OP cut out some parts of the article. Such as the introduction. Maybe there was no malice in it. Maybe the OP just wanted to get straight into the matter. But I doubt it since the OP didnt even post the SOURCE and claimed it to be 'SC2 organisation's' opinion. (Also the fact OP posted 3 posts does not help)
3. Translation is very rough and badly done.
What can we learn from this?
We should always check for the sources. and Anyone that posts informations regarding sensitive matters should always post link to the sources.
Hold off judgmental statements until official statements are confirmed.
|
Ya it seemed pretty rough translatation. I actually think theres more behind the scenes about the ommision of NASL. Why would all the korean teams band together on this one? Seems that its just almost free money for any team who decides to send someone. Its $40,000 USD for heavens sake, and all you have to do is show up for a few days live infront of fans at an event, the rest is in your underwear really.
Anyone else think theres something more behind it? I wont mention what it is. I'll let everyone guess. Its kind of obvious to me.
|
This is why we need Milkis
|
Can someone confirm with Alex Garfield?
|
I've just checked the original article, and what OP is saying is true.
Guess what, the article is titled "카스토르칼럼" which translates to "Castor column", Castor being the journalist's nickname.
In short, the whole article is a one man's opinion on the subject and by no means represents the SC2con or players' thoughts.
Now if there was a way to make everyone understand this would be great.
|
i take it that op just volunteered to translate the article.

That's what it sounds like to me!

Maybe you should post this in the other thread. I don't see why you need to make a new thread about this.
You didn't even add any new content to this thread, if you have concerns about a OP, then it might be smart to post it in that thread.
I don't understand why you made a new thread...

Because its important enough to warrant a new thread. As a new thread, the mods are more likely to actually read this and edit the OP in the other thread accordingly to their findings.

He did, several times in fact, but nobody read the warnings as everybody is trying to fuel the drama with more senseless posting.

Thank you for bringing some light to this

I did, and people were still posting judgmental statements and arguments about the article -.- I was pretty annoyed at the translation and the OP and this thread was admittedly written on a whim. But people really needs to check the sources on informations before making judgments.

Seems like people "finnaly" got a tournament were koreans would not dominate them
i am still skeptic i mean come on thats alot of money its not like they go " nah we dont wanna "

Why do you tell us to check sources when most of us can't even read Korean? It is obvious that the translation was roughly done especially by the last paragraph, but you're being just as 'misleading' as the guy that translated that. You are telling us things without backing it up and expecting us to believe you. Sure you have a source but only a few can read it and fact check/verify your stance.

Well for one, he didnt even have a source posted. That is an obvious indication that you should start doubting your sources. As for my integrity, go check the replies on the thread itself. Other people have verified my claims.

Should close the misinformation post, or at least add this OP to the OP in that.
After reading this, I am ashamed that the original OP remains unedited. TL isn't supposed to be a place you can half-ass a news post of this magnitude.

The source is useless if I can't read it. Why should I have to go check your replies in another thread? You started this one; it should be able to stand on its own.

That is how it always goes, you should have read the thread about EG-Puma-Coach Lee. So many people tried to bring extra information, but all were ignored and the stupidity kept going on, page after page after page. If back then people who had intelligent extra content about that incident made a new thread, we would have had 1278 new threads that day. Posting intelligent information, only to be ignored by ignorance is how threads work. Just pray that a couple smart people read your post.

... Is there any other way of checking my claim without support from other people? How do I make it stand on its own when you can't check the my claims without being able to read Korean?
I gave out all the sources that other korean-speakers can verify. If I am wrong, they can correct me. I am not sure if you are getting the point here. The OP didnt even post the source. on the other hand, I did.

You should feel lucky if people even read the OP. Thank you for bringing this further information for the 20% of us that read more than they post.
|
I never considered the translation thread as official statement, rather as some insight from the Korean netizens' reactions about the case. And I'm thankful even for the rough translation. It was very needed to get some kind of information from the Korean side on the case asap. Didn't find the quotes offensive.
|
well you say that it makes it seems like the NASL is ran by amateurs, how isn't it, with all the problems of the first season, with all the audio problems, delays, and even production quality seriously bad. It feels like it was ran by amateurs. so I think the statement is completely fair and to portray it like that is fair, not to say they won't improve, or haven't fixed somethings.
but even though it felt like a total fan service, the NASL season one flopped technically and seemed amateur run. so what can I say but first impressions are a bitch

Thanks for the information but I'm afraid it won't help. As soon as people post in here it will basically become a copy of the other thread. I still think it's good you're trying to bring some reason into this whole mess.

I get booted for several days and look what happens. More shit hits the fan. .__.

I added a big note to the OP as well as a link to this topic. If anyone wants to translate it go ahead of course.

You can quote whatever posts from the other thread are relevant. You could provide a better translation yourself. You didn't even translate the part that is missing from the other translation. The other thread did have the Korean source but it wasn't linked. Anyone capable of reading Korean could simply read it right above the English translation.
Maybe I'm not getting your point. I don't really see a strong pint in this thread. As I pointed out in my first post your points are just as unsupported as the other thread. You are asking us to believe your points purely on faith while calling something else misleading because it is "unsupported." If you aren't capable of a translation you should leave the responsibility of posting something like this to someone else, or at least quote a proper translation.
|
That translation is wrong, I did my translation of my own, but feel like i might be missing something
and translating wrong in some part. (Even my experiences in States for 6year is not making it perfect)
I agree, professional translator must step up
