Just not quite sure where I would put this, so ill try here... If you've checked out my stream, you may have noticed for the last month I've been playing under a new ID: femFxKaren. If you have participated in the ESL:Iron Lady you may have met Yui the Administrator. Yui(Andrea) and Nemi(Susan) and myself(Karen) started a new girls only team. It's been on the go for almost 2 months now and we are launching our site today officially to the public :o) (Monday August 8th 00:00 Pacific Time)
Whether you are a female Starcraft 2 player looking for others to practice with, share your passion for the best game on the planet, or a Starcraft enthusiast interested in the female SC2 scene, here you will find news and information about fem-Fx members, our activities, videos, streams, tournaments, forums, podcasts and more. Anyone is welcome to come join the team however, you must be willing to follow the two core rules: 1) Be respectful to all players. 2) Show a desire to improve your game play.
Currently Team femFx is comprised of 11 members with a wide skill range and 2 coaches. Our team captain is femFxNavi, well known in the Starcraft community as a talented and ferocious Master’s level zerg player. Our members are: femFxYui (P), femFxNemi (Z), femFxKaren (T), femFxRailin (Z), femFxBOSSLADY (P), femFxSam (P), femFxRogue, femFxWarrden (T), femFxKatiedonut (Z), femFxSquee (Z). Check out our new site today fem-fx.com or follow us on Facebook facebook.com/femFx
Forum moderator plz msg me if any problem with this post, so I can fix (sponsor) that with you :o)
Best of luck in your endeavors. That being said, luck has little to do with anything. I am sure you will do well, and work ferociously at improving your skills - all the while having fun doing it.
I guess women are used to blood, sweat and tears, and those assets are required to make it. Women are better at gaming than being credited for. There are just so few of them professionally. I hope You inspire more to take the leap.
I know my niece bosses any boy she knows in gaming, and she has for years. She even bosses me with 30+ experience in gaming. But then again - I am old and slow.

As in they will be going to tournaments and will be working to be the very best.
So hmm, i typed femfx into sc2ranks and this popped http://sc2ranks.com/search/starts/all/femfx . I dont want to be unkind but whats the point of creating a silver level team and announcing it to public? Being girls wont give you attention for long enough to gather sponsors.
Honeslty i would love to see a womans team, and would love even more for them to show that they can play with the guys. I just think its about time more woman started playing games competitively and show us that games are for everyone. GL and hope to see you in as many tourny's as you see fit!
When you say "wide skillrange" does that mean bronze to masters or low masters to high masters?
Are your members worldwide or are you location based (only US or whatever)?
Any plans to participate in any big tourneys (like the next MLG)?
I think it's great if more girls / women start to play starcraft 2 and while I do not really think an "all girl" team is the best idea (because it focuses on something that I think should not even be part of a discussion except if you are 15 or live in some conservative country or whatever), I understand the reality that right now it is probably not the worst way to make this scene more interesting for female gamers.

When it comes to all girl teams you really can't expect (ONLY due to the fact of a smaller player base) that they can fill a team with Master league players who work well together. Setting up a team is just as much about creating a atmosphere where people can improve together, compete together, and more importantly enjoy the game together.
Don't be a douche.
Best of luck to all of you! Hope you get EU accounts so you guys can compete against our girl-team one day
Best of luck to you, always like to see female players getting confidence.
The only thing I have to complain about yet again is that you are not really a team, but a clan. I know it is nit-picking but I think that the term "team" is overused and this is contraproductive.
But I don't want to derail that topic so I'll end the post with nice words again: Good luck, and maybe you'll improve and start becoming a (legit) "team" in the future.
what is the goal for the team? Everyone is hoping that it "goes well" but what do you hope "going well" achieves? is this more of an infrastructure project? That would make a lot of sense.
yeah, it's more or less infastructure, i think ultimately we want a good community of women supporting other women in e-sports - that's our main purpose... for instance, im not good enough to go pro, but i have good graphic skills, and money... so i can help another player that has teh skill/time to actually go pro if she wants :o)
The pro-team title usually requires that the players play this game professionally... As someone has already said, this is only a clan project. Don't confuse the masses!
Good job having a tasteful team name and approach. I like it!
PMS on the other hand... man that name is just... so bad. Love the team, and the effort they put forth, but like a team name change should be happening hopefully soon. Great foresight with the team name.
we've got a few masters level girls on our team, they just havn't updated their nicks yet - and 2 will be playing at the next mlg (plan to anyways) and the rest of our team might be there to support them, we're still working out those details.. :p
Good luck, hopefully people pay more attention to skills than boiling things down to silly stuff like looks which just demeans the sport.
On the female note, I really wish Slayers would put out that young girl they have on their team in one of the GSTL's - she's just sitting there and it bugs me, I want to see her kick some ass.
If enough women are interested in SC2 and esports, I think it'd be a good idea to start a separate women's league, so that the budding women players don't just get automatically shut out by the veteran male players. After they've had a chance to experience the competitive environment against each other, they'll be battle hardened and ready for the league merging!
For anyone who is going to call me "sexist," or any of those "feminists" who think I'm being chauvinistic, I am only suggesting this in the interests of seeing as many female gamers as there are male gamers some day. Feminism is about equality, and I think to work towards equality, we need to make sure the flame doesn't get stamped out before it has a chance to burn.
Let's face it, there are not many pro female gamers, and any new ones that are up and coming are probably going to be stomped in tourneys (not because they are female, but because they are relatively new) by the guys who have been practicing all day every day for the last year. The problem with my suggestion is that we would need an explosion of female teams in order for a whole new league to be formed =( Female teams like this one are the sparks needed to get girls into e-sports!

There is a reason why she haven't played a game yet and that reason doesn't have anything to do with her being a girl. If she could kicka ass then they would let her kick some ass.

Really like the Name and Logo ,
On a related note to the quoted poster, i really hope a womens only league doesn't happen if its for any kind of big prize money(im talking regular MLG prize pool or bigger here). I don't like the idea that inferior players(Im making the assumption that the reason the league would be separate is because of current skill level) could earn more than better player just based on the fact they are female. This also applies to all " discrimination " such as if a tournament where to flat out refuse to allow anybody with a korean passport into the tournament.
If its your own $500 tournament, go ahead and do what you like but for big prizes I want it to be the best that win.
Do you girls only accept "real" players because my girlfriend is a huge Starcraft 2 nerd and works shitloads with e-sports here in sweden (http://www.layers.se/wp-content/uploads/210604_10150213359347835_518752834_8484373_5622568_o1-650x423.jpg) and would probably love to join, although she isn't that good or plays that much she really burns for e-sports.

You surprise me, TL.
Yeah holy shit I know right, I came to this thread firstly to voice my happiness at more infrastructure for female players and secondly to laugh at the one guy that is usually banned in the first page of responses.
I honestly can't wait for the first female player to make it into the upper echelons of the pro-scene. I've always found it irritating in sports where there's a division between male and female play.. because really all I want to see is the best players at any given sport playing each other and there's usually no compelling reason to create a barrier between the sexes. Starcraft is perfect for a potential breakthrough as there's no reason I can think of why girls should be any worse than guys (apart from the statistical fact that they're currently drawing from a smaller player pool... which hopefully the first success will help to remedy!) :D

that was really very sexist to say such a thing. Like han_han wrote, it's about equality. Equal opportunities for competitive gaming means letting women have their own league if they want it. Later, like han_han said, and the community is more open to it, they can start merging the two for competitive play. That's not to say that we don't have players that can and are willing to compete against male competitors... we do!! All of us are more than happy to kick a guy's butt on the ladder!!

Most of us are all friends and have met each other through other social media, forums and on the ladder. I'm sure at some point we'll enter some friendly rivalry, or play against each other in the future for something other than a 2lb chocolate - but we often have to play against our own teammates too, and we still stay friends.
Ultimately for me, it's about promoting e-sports as a whole and trying to contribute something to the development of it.
Yea other than the distasteful "slag pits" thing this seems cool. I would rather see it more of a community thing than a E-Sports focused thing but that's just me. I know plenty of lady gamers but most of them would rather play than watch so E-Sports falls flat for them. I hope your forums and what not get a lot of visits and discussion!

I'm not going to argue for that guy's point, but you cannot use physical sports in a comparison to starcraft. The reason there is a WPGA and a women's league in most sports is obviously because of the physical differences between men and women. That is not to say in anyway that having a female starcraft league is a bad thing, best of luck!

Equal opportunities does NOT mean letting women have their own league if they want it. Equal opportunities means letting both men and women compete in the same league. If we made MLG males only, how upset would you be, tell me that.
And just because sports have done it in the past, doesn't mean it still isn't sexist.
What he said isn't sexist at all. A tournament that limits its participants based on sex should not have the same prize pool as a tournament that is open to members of both sexes.
Also, you can sit here and tell me "Women can't compete in male leagues because of x physical attribute or y mental attribute" Which....Yes, that's true. Men and women ARE different. So the question becomes, if we treat them differently, even if they ARE different...why stop at sports?
Why don't we have offices that can only hire females, or males. Different gender assigned jobs?
Yeah, doesn't sound so fun anymore...maybe we should just treat everyone equally and let people fall where they will
I always thought it was a bit weird having sports be differentiated based on sex. I mean I guess for some sports that have a lot of contact that'd be awkward but for something like tennis it didn't really make sense. I was hoping with ESPORTS being everything behind a computer it'd change but it's really surprising to see females WILLINGLY get differentiated from males, like there hasn't been a huge battle in the opposite direction for hundreds of years.

The physiological differences of women extend to the brain. Do some research, it's true. Their motor skills have differences from ours. Their brains react differently to different stimuli.
@FreezerJumps: We look for girls potential. Some of us are more involved in the admin side or podcast or being a good player. Regardless, we are all together because we enjoy playing SC2 and we get along.
Our goal is to create an environment where aspiring female SC2 progamers would find practice partners, advice and resources to help them reach their goal of becoming progamers.
"Goal: The purpose toward which an endeavor is directed; an objective." <- @FreezerJumps: Read
That said, we will be participating in female tournaments as well as any other tournament, clan wars or any show matches!. Just contact me yui@fem-fx.com
@Jinsho@Clearout and everyone that is showing their support: THANKS!
This is great, I've been looking forward to this for some time.
But imho having a female only league or tournament isn't right. Reason? Because the current ones aren't male only. If you made a woman league you should also make a male league. Or just keep the current ones for males and females.
Not saying males and females are capable to become equally good at Starcraft (I'm certainly not saying they aren't either), but having a special female league actually doesn't seem fair to me.

Why do we have gender-divided starcraft teams? Unlike most sports, there are no male-only leagues and tournaments so there shouldn't be a need to do this.

The vast majority of SC2 gamers are guys. I mean vast majority, probably more than any other hobby or 'sport'.
There are female only soccer teams.
Think about it, so far over 11 million copies of SC2 have been sold, if the ratio is one-in-a-thousand are girls, then there's still 11,000 girls playing the game
This actually annoys me. Why wouldnt u allow men to join ur team? its not like a sport where men have more testosterone so different division for men and women for even playing field. So why wouldnt u allow men on ur team?? what is wrong with men that u say they cant be on ur team?? im sorry but this actually offends me. As well as the current teams and torunaments ARE NOT male only they are open to both. if they were male exclusiv then this would be fine but they're not ur the only ones being exclusiv

Let the girls do what they want to do.... they obviously feel more comfortable, for now, playing on their own terms with other girls instead of having douche trolls harass them all the time because they are female... being female and playing games always comes with more problems than just being a guy because as a guy you wont have trolls asking you obscene things that might offend you when all you wanna do is play the game and have a good time.... just my two cents... Actually in practice exclusive womens leagues/teams in starcraft haven't been doing well in ratings. I think that's why the female league in korea was canceled. Best of luck though.

This absolutely Never ever happens in competitive level play, such drivel you people rely on for your arguments. There's plenty of strong players who are female, who've never had any of this nonsense, because they don't go around asking for support simply for not having penis.
Everyone gets BM'd on ladder, a team won't protect you from that, nobody seems to do any harassment at top level play, because it's a profession, so an all girl team doesn't help there.
It's cool to enjoy this, and it's nice to see the infrastructure grow, but please use logical reasoning not emotional white-knight drivel, if you want to show your support.

His point was a team wouldn't affect any of that. How would it affect the new situations you mentioned? I don't see how this changes anything really.
Do I think girls get more negative attention in the gaming community because they're girls? Certainly. Do I think they receive more positive attention as well? Absolutely. I think it evens out pretty well which is why it surprises me when some of them focus overwhelmingly on any of the idiotic super-trolls to place themselves as martyrs.
I'm not going to comment on the team too much aside from saying I don't have enough of an interest to see a boom in females in the community to support this simply because it supports females but at the same time I'm not some kind of imbecile who'll shit on anything where women are involved. So I'll simply hold my judgements until we see their performance as a team, hopefully it can grow some decent female gamers to compete at the top level, and not just against other women.

There is no such thing as sexism against males in video games.
Sexism is a word to describe a general mentality spanning across a large group of people. If someone has a female only team then its discriminating against males. Obviously you are saying that males cannot join. But this is not sexism. If girls were dominating a genre for more than a generation and insulting someone for being a male; then that would be sexism. There is no issue with creating a girl only team/tourney/league as long as women are underrepresented and the target of prejudice. Women are very underrepresented and the target of much prejudice in video games.
If gays were viewed equally in everyone and their fathers' eyes there would be no gay pride parade. The male only league is like saying there should be a strait pride parade. Its hard for me as an educated and tolerant human being to try and explain something that seems like common sense to me.
Women are underrepresented in ESPORTS and often abused as a result of ignorance. These women are making their OWN community and they can accept whomever they choose! Their goal isn't to win the GSTL but to help ESPORTS. People like Kallozar are victims to the hereditary prejudices society has been endorsing since things like blindly following the church were common place. Remarks such as his hurt ESPORTS ;p
People with opinions similar to "this segregation moves in the opposite direction further isolating women" (roughly translated from the original barbaric) should site Einstein - "You cannot fix a problem with the same mentality that created it." Everyone is equal. Those that are not treated as such have every right to stand up and give themselves special treatment in the face of oppression. If When stereotyped prejudices are abolished (generations) I'm sure the idea of a female only gaming team will seem less appealing/noteworthy but for now its a great idea.
I wish you all the best in your starcraft enterprises be it playing or otherwise, the web site/logo looks sexy. This is a great way to help ESPORTS and women. gl hf gg

No is going to respect you for not taking 2 seconds out of your time to properly write either. I don't see what's wrong if any group of people wants to make a team based on certain criteria, what matters in the end are results.

Sorry to everyone for starting the Female tournament debate again but how was I being sexist? I was more making a point about how I don't agree with tournaments that " Discriminate "(wrong word maybe?) against anybody if your tournament has a big prize pool(Do what you want with smaller cups and Im all for Cups for specific Starcraft 2 groups(if people want to make a 1k tournament for white males from the us feel free) but i was trying to specifically address segregated leagues or tournaments with big prize pools.
An Example would have been NASL refusing Korean players the chance to compete in their Open bracket qualifier on the basis that they want to grow players from the US and that the koreans are already doing too well in the Groups and too many have qualified for the finals already. I want to specifically say that my point was not aimed a females but just in general!
Hope This clears up my point of view and If you find a sponsor willing to back a league for 50k and you want to make it Female only, go for it and good luck but Its not an en devour i will support .
P.s if you want to reply feel free but i wont post back so it wont derail the topic anymore but i will make sure to read it.
what is the goal for the team? Everyone is hoping that it "goes well" but what do you hope "going well" achieves? is this more of an infrastructure project? That would make a lot of sense.
I am sorry, I meant to write "About your future accomplishments". I don't expect you to become professionel gamers or have exceptionally results as in huge tournament wins, but I do hope that you will feature yourself on forums and your webside so people can follow your development.
As an average gamer who has "tried" to become good, but sincerly failed I know what odds and difficulties you are up against. Thus I can relate to you guys a lot more than to any other teams out there.

Great job! Really hope you do well, E-sports needs EVERYBODY! Fat, skinny, girls, guys, gays, straights. We´re all humans, we´re all gamers and we´re all nerds!
I don't see why there should be seperate female teams or tournaments. In other sports the division of male and female takes place because men naturally have an advantage in many physical sports, but take professional poker for example. In professional poker their is no division because men do not have a natural advantage in a purely mental game.
In my opinion saying that there should be seperate women's starcraft events is almost saying women, as a sex, are not as intelligent as men. This is obviously untrue.
I think the slayers team has taken the proper route by brining on SlayersEve as the first female team member. Creating a team of only women doesn't help the sport at all. I think FemFx should go on with their current lineup of players, but not restrict men from joining.
There is no sexual divide in starcraft 2 skill. In fact, seeing as women are naturally better multitaskers, I would not be surprised to see women begin to win a few tournaments.

No it isn't, maybe this is where you go wrong, sexism can also clearly happen on an individual basis. Sexism = Discrimination, Discrimination =/= Sexism.
There is no issue with creating a girl only team/tourney/league as long as women are underrepresented and the target of prejudice.
Just because someone gets bullied/assaulted/[insert something here] does not give them the right to do the same to the one bullying/assaulting etc.
If gays were viewed equally in everyone and their fathers' eyes there would be no gay pride parade.
Speculation, gays are incredibly respected in the Netherlands and yet we have gay pride parades. Foreigners are disliked more, but not hated. Should we have a Turkey pride parade, Germany pride parade and UK pride parade?

Are Women underrepresented in e-sports? Maybe. I however, doubt that the e-sports community is at fault for that, there simply aren't that many females who enter e-sports and actually go through it, and those that do get a lot of respect (ToSsGirL for instance). While I'm not trying to say one should ignore Kallozar, one should not think that the entire scene is like that because of a single incident.
Everyone is equal. Those that are not treated as such have every right to stand up and give themselves special treatment in the face of oppression.
That is an incredibly stupid sentence, it could justify the Irish bombing the hell out of North Ireland because of "oppression", face it, women are NOT oppressed in a manner in which they have less chances of succeeding in a lot of things. And even if they are oppressed, your Einstein sentence still applies in irony at your own logic. You try to quit oppression by oppression of your own.

I think "girl-only" teams are counter-productive. We need just to have teams accept both guys and girls into their teams and have diverse teams. It's kind of the same argument as korean/foreigner argument. I've seen foreign pros do way better than a lot of the lesser know non big name stars on the korean teams, so korean teams could benefit from having a few really good foreign player just like foreign teams could benefit from having a good korean or two. I've seen some girls play just as good and sometimes better than some of the lower of the male pros. What needs to happen is just a diversifying of current teams. Creating "girl-only" team almost encourages keeping the pro teams male only if the girl gamers would rather go to a girl only team.
It seems to me that a lot of people are missing the point, whether intentionally or not I don't know. It's easy for guys to find other guys and practice in a relaxed and fun environment without any consideration for how they'll be treated in doing so, and as a result it's far easier to take that leap from playing to practicing within a community to get better.
Having a girls only practice team and community opens this option for women that might otherwise not exist, and as such is a good thing. Are you really suggesting you expect fem-fx to be fielding a girl's only showing at the next GSTL and that as men this change would suddenly mean you couldn't attend?
This team is a good idea and I hope it's successful.
Congratulations ladies on this amazing initiative! I wish you the best of lucks, in every aspect of your team. And it's really nice to see all these efforts for growing and expanding the female Starcraft community.

Definition of Sexism: Sexism, also known as gender discrimination or sex discrimination, is the application of the belief or attitude that there are characteristics implicit to one's gender that indirectly affect one's abilities in unrelated areas. It is a form of discrimination or devaluation based on a person's sex, with such attitudes being based on beliefs in traditional stereotypes of gender roles.
Where exactly does it say something about the fact that it is only sexism when a group has that attitude? No. Fucking. Where. Goodnight.
This seems ridiculously sexist. Can you imagine if a team came out and said that they would only recruit male players? I cannot believe someone would have the audacity to make a team such as this. This is just as bad, if not worse, than the defending of Slayers_EVE joining team Slayers for her good looks. This is not the way to go about promoting Esports or even general equality for the sexes.

WTF? That is such a douche bag thing to say. I cannot understand how that adds to this discussion in any way.
Hey, glad to see the reactions to this news are mostly positive. I'm happy to have been chosen as this team's captain and I will make it my duty to bring any member up to speed that wishes to compete. Trust me when I say that the ladder rankings of these girls are mostly irrelevant. A couple of them give me a good run for my money every time we practice and along with the coaches, I think we could have a highly competitive team going to events as a group by the end of the year. It will take time but I'm confident in my team and what we can accomplish.
In response to goldemerald, I don't think it's official that we are a "girl only" team. Our coaches are quite talented and I would be greatly interested in including them as players if the founders are fine with that.

It's entirely up to them, not to me. I don't have any authority other than setting up and helping the girls to practice. And there is no controversy. There will be no change to the team just to make people happy. If this is so controversial to you, tell me of one other team that actually includes a girl. May I remind you that we are not the first only-girl team. If you are so outraged with us, kindly include that outrage with clan PMS lest you sound hypocritical. And perhaps you would be better off asking why more prominent teams such as EG, Liquid and CoL do not include any women in their roster instead of wagging your finger at us for having no men.
I don't get how anyone can argue that this is not sexism, because it clearly is. However, perhaps that is what's needed to encourage and help women who wants to get more involved do so, so I don't really see the issue. But denying that it's sexism is madness.

"Sexism" implies that we believe there are characteristics to one's gender that directly affect their abilities. Exclusivity does not equal sexism. It's not a girl-only team because we believe men are inferior or superior, or vice-versa. I can't change your views, but you are quite wrong on that front. Thank you for the good wishes.

This thread is not about clan PMS, it is about femFX. The whole reason I am upset is because we are going through this debacle yet again. I remember when PMS was created, there was a discussion on gender equality. People were mad, but eventually forgot about it since no one from PMS has made it very far in MLG or other popular events (although I may be wrong).
And perhaps you would be better off asking why more prominent teams such as EG, Liquid and CoL do not include any women in their roster instead of wagging your finger at us for having no men.
Others have said it better than I will, but the reason they don't have any females is because there aren't any females good enough to join. For example, Spanishwa is a recently graduated highschool student. He started entering and winning tournaments on his own accord before he was invited to vile. It takes a lot of dedication to have a real life and become good enough at starcraft to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, very few women have taken it upon themselves to rise to the level where they could be invited to a professional team.

I can't believe you are arguing that. Think about the civil rights movement. You cannot tell me that if there was a "Whites Only" team for starcraft that it is not racist. If you do not think that men and women have different level of abilities, then have a team that discriminates against men?

I, for one, am for any new team in SC2. Also, where does it say that you have to be good at this game to start a team and post a thread on TL. I can start a team with the two homeless guys downstairs and publicize it here. It's about community and mutual support for a game that we all love.

Loved how this sums up my own thoughts as well =) We have people all the way from bronze to masters, from very casual to seriously competitive.

Instead of addressing any of the points I make, you essentially tell me to go away. What you want to happen is oppression. The only reason I care is because it's teams like these that are holding back Esports. If a non-gamer comes and looks at these female only team, they will think to themselves that they are for a female only league. But when they learn it is just discrimination, they are going to laugh at Esports and never look back.

Sexism is a word to describe a general mentality spanning across a large group of people. If someone has a female only team then its discriminating against males.

This is a great way to help ESPORTS and women. gl hf gg
Why thank you. I am now famous. woot!
Anyway, I believe SlayerS is doing a better job at helping E-Sports then this team is. SlayerS recruited a female to their all male team to prove that women do infact play SC2 and can hang with the rest. And I wouldn't be suprised if they keep doing it and other SC2 Korean teams also pick up female SC2 players. Plus look at it this way....How better to improve...would u rather play against bronze level people all day or against High masters...of course High Masters cause you'll learn new tactics and countless other things you will never see in Bronze because you're exposed to it. Yes they might get completely wrecked but with losing also comes learning. How better to improve then learning from your mistakes. Also how better to break the stereotype that men are better then women in everything then by winning a tournament that isn't only just females....

Or perhaps those anarchist threads? *sigh* The first 4 pages were surprisingly civil, but TL is still TL. Why we feel the need to tell girls what they can or cannot do I don't know. And why we get so offended by girls organizing themselves to create a better community for themselves I'll never know. But best of luck and that clan war should definitely happen.

Thanks to those who are supporting us!
And to those who don't: why are you so touchy-feely? what's the problem with just a bunch of girls getting together to play the game for fun? we're not threatening anyone & for some of us we just feel more comfortable playing amongst each other. Typically, girls won't go out looking for a "guys team" or one that's already out there & established because they just simply don't feel comfortable and haven't done stuff like that before. This team is just opening up doors for those who feel more comfortable just playing and not having to worry about rank/skills & other things some other teams would require. Guys tend to be more comfortable looking for other teams on the internet especially with people they don't know...For those girls who are newer & shyer to the community, this gives them an outlet to be more comfortable and open up...therefore having more girls enjoying the game & potentially get good enough to compete with the top pros
In the end, it's all for the love of the game...so gl hf!

If its your own $500 tournament, go ahead and do what you like but for big prizes I want it to be the best that win.
iRaYP: Thanks so much for the compliment on the logo!
wow to your paragraph though!
that was really very sexist to say such a thing. Like han_han wrote, it's about equality. There's a WPGA, and for that matter, a women's league in pretty much every sport I can think of... why shouldn't there be in e-sports also, competing for equally lucrative prize pools. Seriously are you living in 2011? or 1911?
Equal opportunities for competitive gaming means letting women have their own league if they want it. Later, like han_han said, and the community is more open to it, they can start merging the two for competitive play. That's not to say that we don't have players that can and are willing to compete against male competitors... we do!! All of us are more than happy to kick a guy's butt on the ladder!!
on my opinionated post tho... Nobody will ever win the Battle of the Sexes. There's just too much fraternizing with the enemy. ~Henry Kissinger
re: clan PMS/H2O
Most of us are all friends and have met each other through other social media, forums and on the ladder. I'm sure at some point we'll enter some friendly rivalry, or play against each other in the future for something other than a 2lb chocolate - but we often have to play against our own teammates too, and we still stay friends.
Ultimately for me, it's about promoting e-sports as a whole and trying to contribute something to the development of it.
The physiological differences of women extend to the brain. Do some research, it's true. Their motor skills have differences from ours. Their brains react differently to different stimuli.
differently doesnt prove better or worse at computer games
If you read the last source I posted, women compete better in gender specific leagues, than in co-ed ones according to the research. It has something to do with competing alongside your peers. I wasn't saying that it makes you better or worse at computer games, but the brains are different, which is what I said.
To everyone: If you want to criticize the idea of girls only teams, or you desperately want to point out that this somehow is "sexism", make your own thread.
There are not a lot, but we do have female gamers around here, and we sure as hell would like to keep them. So stop flooding every thread like this with complains about girls only teams.
Again, if the issue is so important to you, make your own thread. And if you disagree with the policy, make a thread in Website Feedback.

It's pretty funny how so many feel personally attacked by this... YOU'RE HURTING ESPORTS.
I've been warned for saying this in the past (i don't know why) but if you poll the people who are and aren't against this I guarantee you 99% of the people who are crying about a female only team are people who are in the lower leagues and are upset about not being able to make a team.
Ask anyone who is in diamond-gm and they probably don't care and love the idea.
On August 09 2011 08:48 goldemerald wrote: If it isn't a girls only team, then I think you should ask karenmcd to edit the post to avoid any more controversy.
I'd wager they have no women due to lack of skilled applicants. I would be shocked if a top GM female player couldn't find a spot on a prominent team. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if multiple teams tried to snatch up such a player for the additional publicity it would bring. Unless I am mistaken essentially all players on 'top' teams were at one point or another successful in small tournaments or at the top of the ladder.
Also PMS recruits male members under the banner of H2O iirc.

Thanks for everyones support! We are not taking coaches applications any more, however, we still looking for more active players. Any one interested please fill up an app at fem-fx.com/forums ^_^
I'm really interested in this! I'd really like to join a women's team. I'm only gold right now, but with help and time I could do better. I just don't 1v1 enough. I also cast and spend a lot of time watching streams. I'd love to be apart of this.

Navi, I find this post totally inspiring, specifically the bolded section. That's a great attitude and it will rub off on others. I really hope you can train hard and meet your goals and kick some ass. GLHF femfx!

Alright this is gonna sound weird but I dated a Karen, had a bad breakup etc. And for some reason, when I got to this thread and saw your name I was like no way cuz she played starcraft too. Scared the crap out of me.

but it's the truth and any females joining this group should know. You're asking for information that would change how someone feels about something to be hidden away to deceive them. That's wrong. I'm all for people who have sex changes but this is just blatant deception and cross dressing.
His wife has pictures up calling him 'husband'. I'm sorry but KarenMcD is a guy. A husband. The proof is right here in front of everyone.
I don't know how I would feel if I were a member of FemFX. That said, if a pre-op transgendered person in our community self identifies as female then I think that we should treat them as female. This issue has popped up in esports before (evg-ebonics, for you CS1.6 players) and on this very site (Caterina).

Yes. Karen does identify as a girl, but it's still a guy in real life and the girls of the community should know before they get involved in what is lead to be believed a female-only community because it's not.

There is a marked difference between being transgendered and a cross dresser. Perhaps I am making an assumption that I should not when I assume that she is transgendered, but you don't refer to a transgendered person as their biological sex.

Yeah you're right and I fully agree with you. ^_^ You should definitely call someone who is transgendered as they are, but as you can see even his wife calls him 'husband' and other male terms.
Let's not get too off topic though. All I'm trying to do is point out that there is a guy in the team and it's advertised as female-only. I feel it should be known that there is a guy in the midst.
Tons of girls join these groups so they can feel safe from all the male attitudes out there and they definitely are being deceived, as pointed out on Page-12.

Please educate yourself on transgendered identity before you make false accusations. For starters check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender. Just because someone has a male genitalia doesn't mean they identify as male.

Do whatever it takes to get good IMO. Hope this team actually gets some meaningful accomplishments under their belt so they're not just like other competitive games with female teams. Gaming community in general is still iffy/eh/completely sexist when it comes to female community members, so I doubt it'll be different in ESPORTS for a while.
Obviously because KARENMCD_is_a_guy, then identified as Probe_is_overpowered posted in my thread dedicated to me and there was so much empty drama about something nobody cared about that I had to be nerfed.

I think the issue is whether or not karen does fully self-identify as female. If the post linking pictures etc is to be believed, karen's family uses terms like dad and husband. If that's true, karen's family considers him/her a man. While I don't necessarily condone the format and publicity of the allegations, I think the banned user brings up a legitimate point that anyone joining this team should be made fully aware of karen's situation.
I agree with what you said, but the "sincerely self-dentifies" part has clearly been brought into question, so I don't agree that your statement is a definitive answer to this issue.

Someone can only be female if they have the proper equipment.
The term female refers to the sex of the person, so he should be called a women since it refers to gender. So if someone is a transgender that means they are someone posing as the opposite sex. Where as a transsexual is someone who's gone through surgery to actually change their appearance.
Sorry if this is a little confusing , but I;m really tired, so it might not be coherent.
Anyways to the main point, it is disingenuous for someone to pose as a person of the opposite sex and then promote something as if they really are of that sex.

Look at the timestamps.
You're right, if that's all from several years ago then it's immaterial. Assuming there's no recent similar evidence to the contrary, then Karen is a woman by my, and most people's definitions.
Obviously the ban is legitimate either way because the person clearly made a new account.

Does it strike anyone as funny that KARENMCD_is_a_guy says in her post that she does not want to be in a community with guys due to her bad experiences with them... and then does exactly what these kind of guys do? Stalking (idc if it's possible to access it publicly, going out of the way to hunt down all this information about someone's personal life is creepy), and then harassment...

The "dude" identifies as a female. There's nothing wrong with Karen leading the Starcraft women's team. Why are you so caught up on the issue? I'm sure you've mingled with some ladyboys in Itaewon's Hooker Hill. Don't act like you've never heard of a transgendered person.
I once went to this transgender-show ritzy place in Apgujeong. Those dudes were hot I admit but I wouldn't trust them to lead a SC2 team. I think they'd do fine as players though because they were Korean.
This has gotten a little out of hand all because of one crazy person, the team already knew about it from what ive read and one crazy ass person had to come in here trying to cause drama if the teams okay with it get the fuck over it.
Anyways back on topic, Congratulations to your team and i hope to see you successful.
My only real problem with this team is its name why is there a need to distinguish yourself as something different especially if the main problem for girls in video game communities is being treated differently, doing this only seems to accept being alienised straight away without giving yourself a chance. I dont see why the teams identity should be built around a gender and not the actual personalities/traits of the players
Also goodluck to your team its cool to see more like this hope it ends up going well

PS: Stop bashing on women.
I raise issue with their methods, name, and logo. The details of which, I will not go into (it's not worth wasting forum space with my personal opinions on this matter)
But, and this post is purely in my defense, my girlfriend plays diamond level terran, and I've taught several other women how to play. There are VODs of me teaching women how to play. I was also a big kelly milkies supporter, even when I couldn't understand a word she said. We had chicks in my planetside outfit. We had chicks in my top ten worldwide raiding guild in WoW. They drew no attention to their gender outside of the voices we heard on ventrilo.
Maybe in future we can have discussions on who has various diseases or illnesses, or other semi-interesting medical history. Someone's medical history is no-one's business but their's and the fact that so many people feel the need to weigh in on it is disgusting. Further, why do so many men feel the need to put all women in some neat box and point out whenever they don't quite fit it how they want them to?*
Reading through this thread I got kinda angry so I'll leave this post there while adding that my support for the team just shot through the roof.
* Edit: This post is in regards to many subjects raised in this thread, not any one in particular.

Who cares if they had a sexchange in the past or something, from what I'm aware gender is between your ears not your legs. In the fighting game scene there are multiple extremely high profile people that were under the same situation
One of them is a photographer for large events in the fighting game scene and the other is a model and on television all the time in Japan and is seen as a really big celebrity-status person in Japan. She also fucking kicks ass at street fighter.

Sadly this is not true and I can prove it. At ESL Iron Lady, we had a top GM female player and no one knew about her.
I think you might be missing my point. I'm not surprised there's at least one female player potential. But you have to show your potential, otherwise no one will ever know. I watch a lot of StarCraft II tournaments and streams and I've never seen/even heard of a female player who could be competitive with other known players. Though I will admit ESL is one of the leagues I've seen the least games from.
Also, playing in a separate league for women, which is what Iron Lady seems to be, is not a very good way to become known. If she's good enough to compete in the non-restricted leagues why play in Iron Lady? Unless she's not interested in professional play, which only leads to the current situation of no female players on known teams.
Anyway, I got sidetracked by other shit while writing this post so I'm gonna end it here.

One of them is a photographer for large events in the fighting game scene and the other is a model and on television all the time in Japan and is seen as a really big celebrity-status person in Japan. She also fucking kicks ass at street fighter.
Damn, I still have a hard time believing those two women or whatever the politically correct term it is used to be dudes. 0_0 Seriously, as a guy, that made me a little confused lol. I was like "hmm this girl is pretty cute, wait...*reads title* these two used to be guys?!?! *inception mind blown*"
But in all seriousness, I don't see the reasoning to create a second account trying to show that Karen is a guy. Even if I might not agree or am totally comfortable with the idea of transgender, the person clearly identifies himself or herself as a female. Besides, the person who made an account was a women who wants to make it known to everyone because she is trying to protect "innocent females from possibly getting taken advantage of/tricked/abused by a guy/guys". Seriously?
If anything, I find that a bit more ridiculous. Excuse if i'm not exactly politically correct, and I understand that there are women who have had bad experiences with men in the past, but I find that generalization incredibly insulting. Hey, I'm a guy and I support these all-girl teams. It's great for e-sports if the fairer sex starts getting more involved in games. But, to go out of your way, using this "I-hate-all-men" bashing mentality is, I don't know how else to phrase it, retarded and very narrow-minded. Clearly, the team members have no problem with Karen and I doubt she poses any threat to him as a former man. And yes I'm aware that there are many trolls on the internet and that there are many immoral and bad guys in the world, but seriously that's so cynical and the logic is completely out of touch with reality to go to such extent with your "detective work" as if you're doing everyone a favor by revealing the hidden evil plot of some perverted sexual predator. Please.
Now, back to the topic of the thread, I might not entirely agree with the concept of a girl-only team because of the double-standard exists that if there was a male-only team where they would not let a player join because she was a girl, there would be a total uproar. However, I am aware that it is almost necessary due to the way things are. I guess the best we can hope for is in the future, things will come to a point where it's not surprising to find girl gamers or girls getting trolled by guys because of their gender.
I wish the team best of luck in their endeavors. Despite what I just said above, it is definitely a good thing for the community at least as of right now, as esports is a growing scene and girls are a very small minority in the esports scene right now.
People, why are we caring about the fact that it's an all-girl team or this wild speculation that some women were formerly men? My apartment is exactly 1 block from a big sports arena, most masculine place you could be. 1 block the OTHER direction and there is BoysTown which is where predominantly gay, transgender and alternative lifestyle people live. Totally and polar opposites, yet there are never any problems between the two groups despite proximity.
Why is it that as nerds we are generally shunned or misunderstood by the general public, yet will do the same (or at least poke fun at) groups that are similar to us? In this case the idea of transgengers.
I personally, might find changing sexes extreme, for me, but that doesn't mean someone else didn't try to be happy by way of going that route. And in the end, we all just want to be happy. Whether it's playing video games, changing sexes or both.
Let people be happy and support that ideal. Women (formerly men or otherwise) in gaming can only draw more women and broaden the stigmatic social nature of video gaming.
As a partner with Fem-FX, Infinity Gaming would like to restate its support of the team, regardless of this news.
While the person who has done this digging probably had bad intentions, we imagine a Starcraft II Community that supports people no matter who they are or what life choices they have made. Who are we as fellow humans to pass judgement on one another.
Fem-FX's existence is a celebration of the diversity of the Starcraft II community. Therefore, it is non-sensical to think that a member's difference from what is regarded as the norm is at all a drawback to the organization.
More teams and organizations should join Fem-Fx and Infinity in encouraging players from GLTBQ backgrounds to get involved in the game and the community. To attack these people is to attack the Starcraft II Community as a whole.
Those who choose to discriminate against people in their own community should be well aware that they are on the wrong side of history.
The person who posted under the fake TL account is such a lowlife (and we know who you are).
You are not worth Karen's little finger.
I have been personally attacked through bnet PMs by your friends before for supporting Karen, and I can just repeat what I told these people back then. Karen is a good friend, a great person, and I'm very glad to have met her.
I don't understand why her personal life is any business of anybody else's.
The only thing you achieved by your nasty posts is to finally prove everyone what a person without any moral or ethical values you are (and maybe provide some TL trolls with some more food, not that they needed any).
I really think that some people should just put their noses out of other's business. I've read all of said crap and really think that. Some guys need to stop acting like cavemen each time 'female topic' opens here on TL. No matter what the background of team-leader is, it's none of your friggin business. They want to have this team, so they have it. Just accept that there will be women trying to compete, be happy about it and give them a break.
Seriously, since when people start digging into people's personal lives to demote them in front of the whole community? It's just disgusting to see and this is exactly that part of community I'm not proud of.
Good luck girls, don't let morons to deter you from playing/loving the game.

GL HF!
I followed the BW community really closely, though learning about other countries' best players was tougher back then (all I knew about Japan's SC scene was "LOL, they suck.")
I'm definitely not calling you out, but honestly I'd be damn interested in what your accomplishments were. WGT/PGT/ICCUP ranking, tourneys, WCG, clan wars, etc... GLHF!!! GL will all your endeav's!

who, luwaystorm? that's not really a fair example, no one knows anything about the taiwan community. plus being GM on the old tw server is not really any kind of accomplishment (though obviously luway is pretty good).
If girls want to have their own team and host their own tournaments for females, LET THEM FUCKING DO SO. I fail to see how this could hurt. Let's not go "oh let's be idealnazis and force all to be equal and compete equally". It does not effect YOU common TL male user in any negative way.
Women are a minority in gaming and of course they want a platform with like minded people.
When/if there is a 1million$ tournament with only females, with no male equivela t then there would be a reason to be concerned about separating gender.
I just wonder (without any kind of hate - and it's sad that I have to even type this): Are transgender girls (so the boy->girl kind) allowed to enter female only cups? I know, that such a person is banned from most competitive female only competitions - usually the athletic kind. To my knowledge, there is even a rudimentary test to spot women with an XY genotype even though they were never men, just because they unique hormonal situation gives them an edge over XX women.
