BoxeR vs YellOw (Showmatch 110806) In-game chat translations (only those seen on screen) Work in progress. Will add more games as I get through them.
It should be noted that BoxeR and YellOw have a long and famous history together. The "trash talking" is light-hearted teasing between very close friends who are having fun in a public area, so don't read too much into it, or be misled into thinking that it's BM or an attempt to humiliate another player.
I am sure that both players felt a duty to be entertaining since this was a show match, and in-game chat is just another dimension of the entertainment.
The overall feeling that I got was that BoxeR was trying to motivate YellOw. Hopefully, my translations will reflect that.
The video is a bit blurry, so I would appreciate other Koreans helping me out if there are any errors. Thanks to: JiPrime, ozzie911

Thanks a lot!
Borderline BM from BoxeR, just enough for the show, but not too much because he respects Yellow, nice!
|
much thanks man, i lolled, great stuff

nice. Boxer was such a troll durins this serie. He brought some show that couldn't have happen otherwise. Props to the emperor. I still wished Yellow knew how important baneling speed was... I thought boxer told him in chat :p

This is hilarious, now I know what's actually going on XD. I hope Yellow does continue to play competitive Starcraft 2, it would be quite interesting!

Haha, awesome thrashtalk (^_^) I hope nobody thinks BoxeR was bullying him or anything, they're good friends

BoxeR was so talkative. I think he was trying hard to motivate YelloW to play better and give the fans a good show. However, YelloW seemed bored the entire series.
|
lol, I hope Yellow takes this all the right way.

I think Yellow has entered the early stage of depression that all BW Zergs go through upon seeing they have no Lurkers and the Mutas aren't as good.
|
Thanks a lot for this, I really wished during the games I could've read it

Yell0w didn't respond to most of it He didn't seem to be having a good time

So many "Oh my"s from Boxer haha.

nice thanks for the translation, adds to the entertainment

I think it's more the fact that he's not good enough to chat and play at the same time. I mean, he's only been playing a month.
|
|
|
How many games has Yellow actually played of SC2 anyways? I know he said he played a month, but that could be like 2 games a week.
|
Can't tell if Yellow didn't talk much because of focus/unfamiliarity or wasn't having fun. Hopefully the former!
|
Yellow didn't seem too enthusiastic tbh.

TY for this. Super funny.
I like the comment about hellions. I wonder if they said no blue flame before the match?

Based on the way he played and how much he seemed to understand about the sc2 playstyle, it seemed like he literally could have played less than 10 games before the showmatch.

I dunno, he was gold league on KR server. And I hate to bring stuff like this up, but gold on KR server really is about masters/high diamond NA, I can say that from personal experience. So I don't think he played less than 10 games.

It's abit of a long story, some PvT 4gating involved etc, but basically I met a korean guy on NA server (pretty sure it was true) and he was high masters. However, later, he advertised his stream as a gold level KR server player.
You'll have to take my word for that, as I experienced it I didn't think I'd have to bring forth proof it happened later (>,<)

I'm not sure why but this made me kind of sad. It seems like Yellow doesn't really want to play.

Sad to say I agree. I felt bad for yellow and boxer :\. Boxer should have been easier on Yellow (should have let him macro up to brood lords or something).
Anyone ever have that feeling of planning something exciting (like a party or something), then it happens but no one is having fun >.>? Seemed that way for Yellow >.<.
Edit - I just read the interview where Boxer said he was trying to lift up Yellow's competitive spirit. Makes sense I guess but he should have still went easier on him at least in this event IMO.

Well, best way to stimulate a competetive nature is to give them something they can't handle now and have to figure out how to do it. So crushing Yellow with Hellions might have been the best way to get him into SC2.
Only time will show...

sad that the chat was more interesting than the games

haha so awesome, really hope yellow comes to sc2 that would be awesome

Did anyone expect the games to actually be competitive.
It's like putting up a sign for Nestea vs Jaedong to see who is the best Zerg ... the fact is the games are different enough that the players who aren't currently competing in SC2 won't immediately pick it up.

Well I, like everyone else was expecting yellow to be a lot better. But with the chat you can see that this was just a fun game just for entertainment. I'm happy with the way it turned out but I'm hoping yellow plays a bunch and 6 months down the road we can have another serious match. Oh any maybe this will get the BW only players to see that SC2 is not as simple and easy as they thought before.

hahahaa awwww Boxer seemed like he was treating Yellow like a kid brother or something. Anyone with experience with the whole Korean culture know how people treat Boxer? He's obviously a lot older, so I know, traditionally, there'd be much bowing and deference shown him...so what happens when someone beats Boxer? I've seen bowing after sets, but I wonder how that's manifested across other progamers?

"that building you like is here" LOL thats so awesome

I dunno, he was gold league on KR server. And I hate to bring stuff like this up, but gold on KR server really is about masters/high diamond NA, I can say that from personal experience. So I don't think he played less than 10 games. I see something like this all the time. It changes from every person. Some say diamond is like masters and now it's gold is masters. Do you have any proof for this claim? Thanks. gold on korean is gold on NA, there's really no distinction between leagues until high diamond+.
Now, are you making this statement without ever playing on KR ladder? I've seen some bronzes with airtight builds and 200+ apm on KR. Gold there is borderline masters on NA. I would say that KR is consistently two leagues ahead, from my experiences on both servers.

as long as the leagues are still distributed similarly (top 200 GM, top 2% Masters, top x% Platinum, etc) i would assume you are correct. the top Korean players are much better, and the average Korean player is better. it doesn't make sense that someone in the 70th percentile on KR server wouldn't be better than someone in the 70th percentile on NA.

Haha, no, we're talking about leagues here, nothing transcending beyond that. Not talking about the proscene, just ladder, and you bringing up anything beyond the skill level of ladder is a bit silly (^_^)
At the tip top level, ladder doesn't mean all that much. I'd be willing to bet that Bomber and Ace are both in GM, yet destiny takes games off of them as masters (this is the same for the NA and EU ladder, anybody high masters/low GM can probably take a game off a pro on a good day)
Also, you didn't acknowledge my statement as correct or false, rather you tried to apply my logic to a completely different scenario (>,<)
At the ladder level, i'd say below GM, KR is far faar ahead of every other server, as evidenced not only by what I said but by what everybody else who has played on both will probably say.
As such, gold level players on KR are in masters on NA. At the pro level things kind of even out, and ladder doesn't matter too much. FXO players are probably taking games off deep GSL runners, if not champions, every day.

I wouldn't go as far as to say gold players are masters. They really aren't, in my comparisons to both servers, diamond is easily masters though. A diamond korean would be a low-mid masters player without a sweat imo. But gold/plat are definitely not masters level (though their build orders are more thought out still).

Speaking from the perspective of an athlete (rather than an SC 2 player), I can say that if I were competing against someone who was better than me I would hate it for them to dumb down their play style just to "humour" me or whatever. I would actually find it sort of insulting.
And I think Yellow was probably unhappy with himself for being in that situation, it's never fun to get roflstomped, especially when you're basically a god in the predecessor.

Thanks for translating, seems like Boxer had so much free time to talk but Yellows just like damnit I don't have all the extra time to talk since I don't know what all this shit is going on lol. Can't wait to see them play in the future I would be it will be sick close games judging off how good the guy got within one month.

Awesome. Yellow was trying really hard I believe, but Boxer was trying to entertain. Congrats to both players and I hope Yellow gets more into the scene in some way.

zerg in sc2 is still stressful to play, even through somethings have been more simple like rally points auto-mining... Good luck Yellow if you ever come to the SC2 scene, I liked that game you won a lot (through boxer was clearly letting him win)

Hahahaha
It's jokes to see how seriously people are taking the gold league thing... Yes he got placed into gold league... No he doesn't ladder seriously yet... He is obviously lightyears better than that in most aspects of his play, except perhaps game knowledge which can only really come from playing the game a lot.

Did you know he started in bronze league? He started badly, he is human. He was also in silver for awhile.

I honestly find that really hard to believe. I wasn't even good at BW and I had no problem placing into platinum and making diamond after 20~ games. I can't see how yellow would ever be in bronze without completely screwing around.

The lower leagues are more difficult on the Korean server, and a lot more difficult now than they were months ago, so it's not surprising that Yellow's first couple of games of SC2 weren't all wins.
Nevertheless, yes Yellow is human, one of the most talented humans ever in StarCraft... I have no doubt after a few joke losses he went to some old friends and started practicing customs, improving faster than anyone has yet. And if he did start out in bronze that means he would have to go through silver and gold because you can't jump directly into higher leagues anymore.

Quite easily acctually. Get hit by 5 gross cheeses during your placement matches and not have an MMR from last season to help save your leauge ranking.
Im not surprised at all Yellow started out in Bronze and moved up. Im sure if he seriously puts forth the effort he'll make GM sooner or later. The brilliance he had in BW will return to him given time and game understanding.

Its more of a general assessment rather than a steady rule. Try playing on the KR server, their players are simply much better at every level. Mechanics and some integrity play a big part in that. They are the anti-Idra when it comes to GG'ing.
