Not an actual news post, but exciting enough to post about it already.
Proper GOMTV announcement!
Lim Jin Rok - SlayerS_BoxeR vs YellOw - Arena of Legends
The 'Emperor of Terran' SlayerS_BoxeR and the 'Storm Zerg' YellOw will face off in a Starcraft II Best of 3 at our event stage on the beautiful beach of Haeundae, Busan!
It is the rivalry of rivalries. Never has there been a longer, greater and fiercer feud between two progamers in the history of StarCraft. It is so popular that fans have coined the term Lim Jin Rok to describe the two players' relationship and the ultimate anticipation and elation when these two titans of StarCraft face each other.
Before StarCraft II was released fans were asked which players they would like to see face each other the most. Many people voted for a showdown between the StarCraft icon BoxeR and the '5th race' of Warcraft III MooN, but an overwhelming amount of the community wanted to see another iteration of Lim Jin Rok, BoxeR vs YellOw.
That day has now finally arrived and what could be a better time to have this clash than now, when StarCraft II is about to celebrate its first birthday. They used to be teammates, they have been friends for over 10 years and they probably will stay rivals forever. Do not miss this match, coming to you live on August 5th via GOMTV.net at 10pm KST brought to you by Blizzard, LG 3D Cinema and GOMTV.net as part of the Cinema 3D and Optimus 3D Summer Festival!
Location: Busan, Haeundae beach, Blizzard and LG Cinema 3D event stage
if only this had the PR of a TSL those were the most beautiful times ever, but this wouldve been able to reach it in amazingness lol, especially TSL2's probe intro (i miss the old probe T.T)
expecting boxer to 3-0 with some crazy sick play....or yellow to do rather well and finally join SlayerS
Does this mean yellow is gonna come out of retirement for Sc2?!?!?!? If not still cool to see how he does! Will be awesome to watch thank you for posting this ^^

Well Mr. Chae tweeting is is pretty much a 100% verification since he's the dude behind GSL
He hasn't been playing... he won't be able to do well. It's a problem because they should actually be making room for new talent to play showmatches, but this is going to be a really big event. It reminds me of when retired Karpov and Kasparov play and it gets more attention than basically all other chess events.

Hahaha, awesome. Looking forward to a translation when an article shows up as well.
Personally, I'd rather have Yellow join IM than Slayers, though. Nestea/Losira/Yellow would make the most dominant Zerg team in the world, just because he's Yellow.
hahaha this is going to be so epic. I saw his tweet right as it happened and I couldn't even believe it... I think yellow will be good from transferred skills from BW. This will be interesting to say the least though. I guess it wouldn't be right if Yellow didn't come in second though.

Lol this will be so good. Even better is the fact that there will be no expectation of the showmatch results whatsoever.
-If Boxer destroys Yellow so fast in very quick games, we all can reminisce the old times and laugh at the perennial loser Yellow like old times! - If Yellow totally destroys Boxer it will be so impressive because now we know he has been smurfing for a long time and we can look forward to his participation in SC2 pro scene. - If the matches are epic then of course its good too!
Haha, I wonder how much Yellow has been playing. It will be sad if there's no creep spread, and Yellow scratching his head looking for the lurker hotkey.
This is amazing we are at the point in SC2 that we don't need Nestea vs DRG to get some hype going for a match. Even if they have a lot of history behind it, it's great to see some friendly competition for the fans.
Seriously, I don't even follow SCII that passionately, and I can tell you that I will motherfucking be there to watch this. I'm literally trembling with excitement right now.

Lol no way he would agree to this show match just to get embarrassed. I'm looking forward to watching yellow play sc2

It has to happen. He has to bunker rush every game. Its da law O_O
Ooo, awesome. Hopefully these matches will motivate him to start playing with SlayerS. And if he decides to start playing sc2 competetively, I hope he takes at least one gold :p
Dude, that kinda blows for Yellow, considering Boxer has been playing sc2 professionally for a while now, while Yellow just retired, and can not have been playing sc2 much.
cool stuff, hoping this is gunna brighten my life after MBC potentially shutting down.. should be really cool, hopefully YellOw will switch over, then SC2 competition will really start flaring up! YellOw was one of my favs... could only be happier now if LuCifer switched over (don't do it anytime soon), and Nal_rA started playing SC2 (which will prob happen!)

go watch some BW, YellOw vs GGPlay is HUGELY recommended it'll be cool to see how he does in SC2!
Wow, that's crazy. I can't see Yellow competing with BoxeR unless he's been secretly training, but maybe he's planning his return to ESPORTS? That's awesome.
people were shitting on slayers eve for being in diamond
yellow is allegedly in bronze currently. why are people suddenly so excited
i know yellow is a SC1 legend but when its unfair to treat slayers eve differently just because she is a gurl. its also unfair to treat yellow differently just because he was good at sc1 (guillaume patry doesnt get a showmatch. and he won osl unlike yellow)
oh my god i bet you YelloW is practicing with fellow BW teamate Nestea (yes, he was in KT too), oh god...... and not just that, Boxer's best match up is TvZ >:O

This is basically impossible for someone as gosu as Yellow. Unless he purposely threw every game. Link sources to your "alleged" information please. Some guy called "yellow" in sc2ranks doesn't mean it's the real guy you know?
Anyway, this is incredible and I am hyped :D Will tune in FOR SURE.

I'm calling bull shit, no one with the mechanics that yellow has will be in bronze. Seriously, did you believe he was in bronze?

i think it should be pretty obvious why? yellow was actually good once, eve is a nobody. besides, giyom DID get an sc2 showmatch a long time ago.
Boxer: Hey Yellow, let me choose the maps! Yellow: Oh, okay...since you know the game more. Boxer: It's decided then! Steppes of war, Delta Quadrant, Lost Temple! Yellow: Sounds good I guess!
Holy freaking god this is awesome. Something tells me boxer miiiiiight hold a slight psychological advantage over yellow :p but either way, this is pretty damn cool.
Can someone post VOD's that demonstrate yellow's play style? Don't necessarily need to be good games, but that show what type of player he is. I'm interested to see how much of it carries over.
While this is indescribably epic in concept, I hadn't heard that Yellow was actually playing StarCraft II. If that's not the case, then this could be very one-sided. Then again, if Mondragon in TSL has taught me anything, it's not to underestimate sneaky Zergs.
I don't know why everyone's so excited. Boxer is going to win easily. Yeah, if both players have played for a long time, it'd be exciting, but Boxer has just spend close to a year playing SCII, YellOw just retired from Brood War, I'd doubt he's played 100 games yet. He just isn't going to be up on the current trends and standards and nuances of ZvT and BoxeR (despite what you might here) Is pretty fucking good at TvZ (look at his games versus sen in TSL).

Wow....Yellow vs Boxer...i'll def free up my schedule to watch this O.o Although I wonder why in SC2 and not BW? Does that mean that Yellow is thinking about getting involved in SC2 professionally (either as player or coach)?

Of course you don't. You don't know anything about their rivalry years ago. It was before your time. Who cares who wins? It's just a show match.

The point is it's going to be a bad game. BoxeR is going to roll YellOw because YellOw doesn't have any experience. I'd really love to see someone like Oov playing, but not if he isn't up to shape. Otherwise it's just nostaliga until you realize the games are aweful.

The one who floats around at a level of abstraction outwards enough to be able to understand things but not enjoy them. Be happy bro.
Hell yeah!! =D Legends Clash again for the grow of eSports! Thanks GOM! and then you can make a showmatch Yellow vs MKP to see who's closer to the 1st place xD
the rivalry is reborn! Two extremely old starcraft broodwar veterans who've both shared there share of WAAAAY too many games duking it out once more for the sake of the fans. It's like michael Jordan coming back to do a dunk contest. I'm so damn excited to see this. History in the making!
i just need to say.... THIS IS AWESOME, THIS RIVALRY IS THE REASON I BECAME SO EXCITED INTO eSPORTS, sorry for the caps, but words can not describe how I am feeling at this moment in time.
dammit! i screamed so loud dad woke up, and he's nightshift I would like to say sorry to dad and yellow, for being woken and about to be thrashed respectively
Childhood rushing back to me, my dad didn't even realize that Hong Jin Ho had retired; or that Lim Yo Hwan had transffered, oh poor over time But he knows now, grieved and is pumped as much as I for LimJinRok
I stopped breathing for a second when I read the title. I'd like to see how yellow is at sc2 and if boxer has been improving or has something planned for this.
OH MY F-ING GOD!!!!! Yellow in SC2 ROFLLLLL <3 <3 <3 I can't wait. Wow... I'm so glad SC2 is becoming legendary, I play it since day 1 from beta and was always hoping to become the biggest e-sport(even though I was BW played), with the latest events such as SC taking the main stage at MLG and even more Koreans switching from SC1 to SC2 looks like it's already a reality.
Wow, I don't know what to say about this, I remember watching so many epic games between the two and to now see it carry over to SCII with the possible chance of these becoming things I can watch in person... my mind just exploded.
Being one of the many who started following the starcraft scene when sc2 came out i got a wierd view on the koreans. First i tought they were insanely godly and untouchable seeing how they treated Nada when he came to IEM for a showmatch versus TLO. I was suprised of how people reacted to it, and the way Nada barely was allowed to play and such made it even more impressive.
Following this videos from oGs started popping up on husky and hd's channels and seeing how ruthless they played i quickly became a huge fan of the top koreans. oGsTheStc vs Ensnare on dealta quadrant comes to mind. oGsTester and oGsCool (fruitdealer) showed some impressive play too and by this time there were news of a Global Starcraft League to be held in korea.
I watched most of the games live and from early on i was hooked to this unbelivebly good production and really high level play. From then on i have seen every GSL match there have been and not regretted it a second.
Since then i have learned so much about the korean scene and they about the foreign scene, this year sc2 have been evolving extremly fast and it's a thrill to follow.
I don't really know the point of this wall of text, but i'm super hyped about this news, and the text above must be the reason why.
That's awesome. BoxeR hwaiting, but who knows maybe YellOw will show some good games. And let's be honest, whether it's Steppes of War or Tal'Darim Altar Cross Positions, I think we all know BoxeR will be bunker rushing.
Yellow is the silver king from BW. Best zerg player after july from the old era (until 2006)? One of the biggest rivalities between these players in the early 2000. this should be more then awesome.. hope that yellow will bring good games, I`m sure boxer will do.
That's obviously awesome. Plus, I doubt he is the kind of guy to take a show match like this too lightly (it's fun and all but he probably doesn't want to be roll over either) which means he is probably going to train which means he is going to transition to sc2! Love my flawless logic.

Is this true? Source? This is my biggest concern. BoxeR is very good at SC2. If Yellow just started practicing, there's just no way he can compete.

Exactly and who would be stupid to make entire event with someone who just started practicing, just wait and see he will probably say it in interview after the games.
But haha to all people saying that the games won´t be good its not just about the quality of the games, the whole story between those 2 players makes room for a lot of hype.

I wasn't around for Broodwar, so please name the unnameable one.
im sorry but, feels like fish out of water these guys for a long time have been unable to compete at a high level and now playing sc2 only because the current state of the game allows them to sure, have fun i guess, but making a big deal out of it =\

I personally dont see how its possible AT ALL for yellow to be in bronze, or anything under masters to be honest, unless he lost afew of his placements and got there from that.. But within ~30 games, theres NO WAY hes not in Masters..
When you get to the skill level of a Yellow, you can switch to any RTS game in the world and instantly be near the top.. No way he would be in bronze.
I wouldnt be surprised in the slightest if we see him taking games off boxer on Aug 5th.

Thats because Korean servers have a linear promotion system, they have to go into bronze > silver > gold > plat > etc. Kinda like the iccup ladder system.

I actually got a big smile when i read this. I dont know if the game is going to be super high level but just seeing these BW legends playing eachother again gives me nerdchills.
I personally suspect this will be a bo7 series. This is because it is after the GSTL on a night when only one match is being played, so it would make sense for Boxer v Yellow to take the place of the second match.

One of the best players and the best zerg at his time, and Boxer''s rival. He's being compared to mkp because despite being one of the best, he has never won a single major title, which gives him the title silver king, which is similar to mkp, got into 3 finals yet haven't won 1 yet.

We're going to find out what a former top bw pro can do in sc2 with only a few weeks of practice. I'm excited. I hope it plays out like NaDa's showmatch with aTLO where NaDa said he fell in love with the game from it.

It's not trashing on SC2 it's a sideways dig at Boxer and Yellow gameplay.
It's more likely that it will be oGs.YellOw because NaDa is there (they could REALLY use a good zerg).
I'm excited for YellOw, not just because he joined SC2 but because this is how it should be, people cheering him on and getting pumped for his appearance instead of the slight disappointment seeing him on the bench and reminiscing of his "glory days".

Not quite correct. It is directed towards both.
If he said it was "ruined by the difference in the design between the two guys" it'd be a bit overdramatic, but it would be a dig at Boxer and Yellow gameplay.
However, it is clearly states "terrible game design", which is a direct hit against... the game design.

Wow! I'm really corious to understand if yellow made this show match only or want to join the SC2 scene full time as a player.
Nada and July are still really good also at SC2, but Boxer fall out of Code A. What Yellow can do after some months of practice? Really looking forward to it...
I guess this is just too beyond my history in gaming to get excited over. Especially when yellow isnt exactly as up on his sc2 as he was with bw. I'll probably give this one a miss

you mean before July.
I think you're both forgetting he who must not be named.
will we ever have the final battle between him and Harry Potter?
this is the showmatch i have been dying to see ever since sc2 got announced/released, even the score will be win-win: Boxer wins = yay go Boxer. Yellow wins = omg revenge epic, honestly as long as it won't become a walkover it will be great
Eh, unless yellow really starts practicing and somehow goes godmode, Boxer has a huge lead on him already, so I don't think this showmatch really will give Yellow much of a chance at all, hehe.
It's there just for entertainment, though, so I just hope Yellow can put up a good fight...if he won, it would be outrageous :D
thats how epic the rivalry between these two is. However, Kong (Yellow's nickname) never won a championship even though he reached 4 times i think? From there Kongline came, ppl such as Fantasy and Jangbi, and even Stork Now that fantasy has a championship, and stork already had one, they can be exempted but they got so many 2nd places thats why theyre in kongline.
I will watch this showcase match, boxer vs yellow has always been the biggest and most wanted match in SC world.
AMMAGAWD! I hope Yellow studies up on countering 2rax beforehand though, especially BoxeR's 2rax. Zerg nerds have nightmares about it
Wonder what YellOw's gonna do O_o Maybe he's the player zergs have been waiting for around the world, the one that makes Z seem so imba good that even San is like "Hm. No balance."

So Yellow must have been practicing sc2 for some time already... Even someone with tons of talent and BW background I doubt would be able to get to pro level in just a week or two. Is there a ladder account that might be his?

I'm far from being pro gamer (high masters), and I have 3 accounts. I'm sure a player from that kind of caliber like YellOw has a vast choice of accounts he can play on.
This is giving me what Tasteless calls "nerd chills." I am so excited I can't wait! I wish there were more games though instead of just a Bo3, hopefully Yellow shows us some cool new strategies.
heh, this reminds me of the NaDa vs TLO showmatch back at IEM, Cologne in August 2010 in the sense that NaDa and YellOw both had only a rather very short amount of time to play any SC2 before their showmatch
except YellOw and BoxeR actually do have a history together so this one is going to be that much more exciting
I wonder if YellOw will be coming back to progaming as a SC2 player or is this just a one time showmatch / he might still play just for fun? Either way, absolutely can't wait for this, even if it's unfortunately just a bo3 and not bo5.

Here's your training montage. In fact, I hope GoMTV actually show a parody of this scene before the showmatch.
Just replace Ivor Drago with BoxeR and Rocky with YellOw. During the video, have BoxeR practicing bunker rushes with his practice partners in SlayerS and YellOw practicing how to hold a bunker rush with MVP (and NesTea watching) and at the end, have YellOw run up Mount Dongsan and yell "BOOOOOOXXXXXXXXXEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!"

Definitely want to see the some bunker rushes (except maybe with reapers instead to make it actually viable) ^___^, one game as a throwback game. It's a showmatch, so hopefully we can expect some fanservice.
So, just to clarify something, did Wolf and Torch actually think they were breaking this news on the GSL tonight? It sort of felt like they were late to the party in that regard.
Can't wait for the match. Rooting for Yellow though, maybe a spine crawler rush?
HAHAHAHA YES yellow has come to the STARCRAFT 2 SIDE! I saw him play sc2 once waaaaay back in the beginning, and he was the first person to use blink micro perfectly! It was beautiful!
I wonder if YellOw has been playing since his BW retirement. It's interesting to me, the last time we had an amazing BW legend come over he showed an amazing new playstyle (July Zerg Aggression).
^___^ I look forward to see what YellOw has cooked up for BoxeR.

Still.. It would be pretty fucking epic just with a showmatch in SC2 to see how they'd do without any practise in the game I don't want them to switch either, but it's more because I want to give foreigners a chance to shine ^_^
Compared to the year that many other players have had to practice, at best, YellOw will have had a few weeks of practice. I expect to basically see what his raw skill and mechanics are, instead of any sort of refined play. Boxer should trash him but his raw skills will get him far.
Considering that this is only a showmatch, I expect BoxeR to bunker rush in at least one game, then play not-so-serious in another match, then close it out with a serious match if they tie up.
I do recall that these kinds of showmatches tend to have more relaxed rules and play. There was an Intel-sponsored BoxeR vs NaDa 2-match showmatch some months ago, and it mainly consisted of NaDa playing strongly and winning match 1, but screwing around in match 2 and losing that game, all while both players engaged in friendly banter in the chat.

Yellow was king of Silver long before stork even lost his first championship match

Very curious to see what Yellow busts out, I assume he must be playing some SC2 in order to put up a good show and maybe win. I doubt he wants to lose even when he's new to the game, hoping for some 12 drone rushing ^^
Glad to see yell0w is able to find things to do after retiring from bw. Better to have the legends as part of the esports scene rather than disappearing =D

The biggest rivalry in Starcraft 2 Esports 'imjinrok' is about to unfold.

This Starcraft 2 event, being the first 'imjinrok' will have the official Blizzard maps: Xel'naga Caverns, Shattered Temple, and Tal'darim Alters as a best 2 out of 3 games.
In addition, Starcraft 2's supsterstar challengers Im Yo Hwan and Hong Jin Ho will be availble on the GSL home page (http://esports.gomtv.com/gsl/) as well as the GomTV GSL Channel(http://ch.gomtv.com/450) as a new bradcast as well as a VOD. Blizzard and LG Electronics are co-sponsors in the event: 'Cineme 3D & Optimus 3d Summer Festival.' More information is available on the offical website (http://kr.battle.net/sc2/ko/blog/881082#blog).
Regardless, this is just the kind of stuff SC2 in Korea needs. More super famous Brood War players switching over to SC2 and playing in showmatches. I'm looking forward to it.

Unless Yellow was secretly practicing during his final KT days, I think he'll get stomped by the more experienced Boxer. I'm still looking forward too it, but I'm not expecting it to be that close. Hopefully Yellow trains hardcore.

That wouldn't make it more interesting at all. An old rivalry from a different game being continued in our own Starcraft 2, it's amazing.
Now we know why MKP is falling off a bit, as yellow gets closer to sc2 he is draining the power of #2 from MKP. I fear if Yellow tries to compete in the GSL MKP will disappear completely.

LOL nice observation! But yeah Stork did get a gold in a major league so he didn't get all Silvers. YellOw didn't get all silvers either, but the golds he got weren't for the "major" leagues.

whoa, only 39 pages? Should be more like 3900 pages, this is huge!
and I'm sure Yellow can probably do well (and maybe even win). Boxer isn't in that great of a shape lately, though we'll see how far he goes at MLG this weekend to judge Yellow's chances even better.
Good spectating for fans but a one sided matchup and probably a waste of most people's time =( Nonetheless, as a fan I will watch for the same reason as 95% of the people here! Hope in-game convo is allowed.
i think you guys are giving toooo much of "different game" factor.
i dont think a bw player will have any problem picking up sc2 to almost full potential within weeks of hard practicing and especially with great training partners (which yellow will obviously have)
Talk about unfair Zerg is arguably the hardest to attain a "competitive level" with, and Boxer has been playing SC2 for quite some time He will mop the floor with Yellow and it will be more embarassing than his last Proleague game vs Midas

Yellow is kinda fucked eh, he just retired a few months ago, no doubt has had no time to practice SC2, and the transition will be even tougher now that the game is a lot more fleshed out

What I'm looking forward to most is after the games are said and done, Yellow announcing that he is joining SlayerS and will start playing Sc2 professionally(One can hope and dream right?)
