This situation is bizarre. I really think the root of all of this is the fact that GOM has sole exclusive rights to Starcraft 2, thus not generating enough buzz, thus lower wages and lower incentives for players. It's all a domino effect. The Korean scene just has to hold out one more year and hope the contract is not renewed. Read the Coach Lee interview. He expresses that the competition is too fierce and too narrow i.e. GSL is hard to win and all they have is GSL. I'm not sure what kind of exclusivity deal GOM has, but I imagine at least there would be smaller tournaments. Wasn't there a small tournament where July won to go to MLG Columbus? Is GOM prohibiting other tournaments from forming or is there just no interest there? Compare this to the foreign scene where a guy like Naniwa has to pick and choose where he can be. Many more opportunities to make a splash.

There were a few attempts around Christmas, but those didn't have any english coverage so I assume the viewer counts were pretty low.
