There was no difference here.
TDH wanted to leave korea and got picked up to help him in europe
Puma wanted to leave TSL and got picked up to help him in foreign events.
The only different is there is no Coach Lee raging around korean press.

Ah cool, I remember when he was asking his stream about foreign teams and I told him about dignitas and how they have their base in England and he should ask SeleCT about more information, I guess he did.

That's the only difference That and good faith negotiations between the player and both management teams

We don't know the full story of either transfer but it seems like with puMa he was approached and with TDH he approached teams, or at least they were made aware that he was looking for a foreign team.

This situation is bizarre. I really think the root of all of this is the fact that GOM has sole exclusive rights to Starcraft 2, thus not generating enough buzz, thus lower wages and lower incentives for players. It's all a domino effect. The Korean scene just has to hold out one more year and hope the contract is not renewed. I dont think it has much to do much gom's exclusivity, korea is just not interested in SC2 much. All the people care about are BW, if people start caring about SC2 more, we see blizzard to seek out a secondary broadcast. I think a major part of that lack of interest is cause by GOM's exclusive rights. It is far easier to just flip on the TV then having to watch it online. If MBC Game or OGN showed SC2 I am for sure the scene will explode. The WCG qualifiers is really the test of that hypothesis. I don't think SC2 will have good rating if broadcast on tv in korea, from some of korean friends, they and the people they know just do not have as much interest in SC2 and its players, kinda like "meh, its cool i guess" Also there was an article some time back, that Gomtv is still operating at a loss for broadcasting GSL. don't quote me on that yet, will edit once i find link. ...I know, I was teasing the person that asked. k lol sarcasm/teasing is hard to read online. For the actual answer, I would assume he's going to the University of Manchester. You don't generally travel around the world so you can attend Manchester Met.

foreign team needs to develop their own talents, signing players from Korean isn't a long term solution.

Those comparing this deal to EG/Puma haven't really understood either, it seems. Completely different premises.
On July 24 2011 11:58 EaryKing wrote: foreign team needs to develop their own talents, signing players from Korean isn't a long term solution. Signing a player living in England for years to come is about as long-term as it can get in this industry.

Good pick up, grats to Dignitas!

Keeping the new trend alive with all these koreans going to foreign teams, loving it

On July 25 2011 11:26 FinestHour wrote: Keeping the new trend alive with all these koreans going to foreign teams, loving it I don't see this changing anytime soon...All there is in korea is GSL, and even getting into code A is ridiculously hard, even if you practice 10 hours a day every day there is no guarantee you will get there, and even if you win code A you don't get that much money...
For anyone that isn't the top 10 best player in korea the opportunities are fairly small :/
The rest of the world has plenty of tournaments that are done within a few days and have big cash prizes; dreamhack, mlg, homestory, and plenty of other smaller and possibly bigger ones that I forgot. I can understand this sucks for korean teams, but something has to change to give the pros not in code S incentive to stay.
Edit: To be on topic though, best of luck to TanDongHo and Dignitas.

wroooooooooooong. they contacted the coach and dealt with him properly. if that isnt enough to change your mind, the player was moving to england to study anyway, so he could not stay on zeNEX anyway.
Congrats to both parties!

This is an interesting time, you don't often see South Koreans going "foreign" for StarCraft! And now the BW contracts are gonna be up soon, there are probably more surprises to come..
