IMHO I believe it is a bad decision to make a post such as this, ONLY because the people who are annoying you are gaining power. These people are trolls, and by addressing them you are letting them win. By making this post you act as though you care about what these trolls are doing... YES I agree that there shouldn't be the photoshopped pictures and such, but this can be dealt with through legal means, not that of the TL community forums...

IMO, make a team with whoever you want, if you have members that don't succeed then it is your own financial loss, right? Ignore the haters and do what you do!

A great post and Jessica makes a good point, if girl gamers are ever going to make it onto the pro scene, then male gamers are going to have to give them a chance. The reaction to SlayerS_Eve has already shown that most male gamers are offended by the idea of being challenged by a girl. It sounds like SlayerS_Eve could beat 99% of the players who hang out on this forum.

people are over-analyzing this with sexist comments.

Girls and boys have the same capablities to suceed in games, its just culturally thats not seen.

All jessica is doing is helping bring down this cultural barrier by having a female gamer to train with the boys.

whats sexist about that. the purpose is to break down gender roles that exists.

i think its a great initiative. girls arn't going to start playing unless they have rolemodels and someone to look up to. its like that everywhere.

it may seems sexist to not leave a system as fair as possible out there on its own, but its not one dimensional since theres other factors that encourage the influx of a system, like culture. To be the most fair, you need take care of all these layers first before having a truely fair system.

you guys need to look at the bigger picture and the positive effects it will have on e-sports to have more and more female gamers..

this isn't a physical sport so its not like the guys can outrun the females. ask yourself why there isn't many female gamers.

I'm not even defending the anti affirmative-action position, but that is for the most part a shallow reading of this thread.

Astounded by the hatred being spewed on these forums against a person who did nothing wrong but be a girl.

Very nice post, Jessica. Glad you think so highly of TLiquid that you came over to fill us in on what's going on over there. I really am sorry to see all the wretched stuff happening to Eve. It's morally bankrupt.

Best of luck to SlayerS, Eve, and Jessica!

How are you breaking them down by allowing a bad player into a team just because she is female. If anything it makes it much worse for other female gamers, how discouraging to see the girl up there on the stage not because of merit, not because she has a unique playstyle. But because she has a vagina. Whats the point if they are just going to pick a girl with a pretty face?

I still don't see why everyone is making SUCH a huge fuss out of this... So Eve is said to be not performing up to par right now... who says she can't get better? Jessica said that she doesn't expect Eve to perform in GSL but also that doesn't mean she WON'T. Also, maybe they really do see potential in her... There are TONS of StarcraftII players that, in my honest opinion, will never be a threatening player in a tournament, players that I would willingly bet that they will not get past the Round of 16, if they were to pass the prelims by a stroke of luck. There are also players that get invited into the tournaments whom I can bet my left toe saying that he will NOT win that tournament. If all this is apparent in SC2 now, I don't see what the problem is...

Besides, are the people who are mad simply mad because she got into Slayers and they or their favorite player didn't? Well Starcraft is a sport but also something for entertainment, that's why BoxeR is still so damn popular. I don't really see my favorite player of all time winning GSL anytime soon... but I tune in to every VOD of him, why? Cuz his, "super innovative and aggressive" strategies" are ENTERTAINING. No doubt Eve will also "entertain" the crowd in one way or the other.

I HONESTLY do not see the problem in her joining Slayers, nor do I see a problem with Slayers Jessica fighting off anti's. Give Eve sometime... If in a couple months she proves to have nothing "unique" about her games and all they are are just macro-fests with no extra spice added on, then I'd be happy to withdraw my "very important" statement (sarcasm about my opinion in this holding any water at all) but I still believe Eve will perform well. In fact, because of all this criticism she's receiving, I feel like she'd be motivated to show us a great game, full of micro and unorthodox play.

Best wishes to Slayers

The problem is she hasn't shown anything, she is undeserving of a spot in slayers because she is not a good player. I don't care if she can improve, they could of taken in anyone and they would improve in the environment team SlayerS has. You missed the whole point surrounding this argument...

So you're saying she's undeserving because she isn't good in the NOW. I don't see why Slayers has to conform and just take in players that are good NOW. If what you say is true, that anyone can improve in the SlayerS team environment, then wouldn't be a good thing to try and train a female player to be ground "breaking-ly" awesome? Is it so bad that she got the golden ticket/luck of the draw and was admitted into SlayerS?

All the Eve haters should, in a sense, then be just as pissed when SlayerS_BoxeR gets an invite into a tournament when we can name 5 players off the top of our heads who are more deserving of the invite because of their performance thus far in StarcraftII. And please don't say, "Don't you dare compare the Emperor to Eve," he's my hero too, I'm just being reasonable

I think you need to read some more of the posts. It has nothing to do with males being challenged by a girl it's that she is getting an unfair opportunity based solely on her gender.

Male gamers are doing NOTHING to stop girls becoming professional, the mindset for a gamer to achieve a lot in the game they are playing is to work hard, get good and beat the best, non of them three factors involve male gamers attempting to stop them from achieving the only thing that will stop them from achieving is themselves

it sickens me that E-sports is surrounded by discrimination to the point where professional teams assume that female gamers can't achieve success on their own!

male gamers are doing NOTHING to prevent females from achieving, they have access to all the steps it takes to become a professional gamer be it tournaments/sc2 copy/internet

I don't think this is the proper way to try to integrate females. SC2 is a mental exercise, not physical. There should be no segregation due to sex. I found
it is no mean feat for a female to reach Master level while laddering against males.
and
They wrote profanities and sexist remarks non-stop...
to be quite hypocritical. You are implying she is worse at SC2 just because she is a woman and then attacking other people for being sexist? Seems wrong to me.

I don't agree that girls should play on pro teams because they are girls. I am a girl and Im tired of people talking smack about us and being easy when playing us just cause we are female. I would be 100% behind Eve is she was high masters in KR and could actually play well.
Thats just my honest opinion : )

the point is to have a female gamer to encourage more female gamers. We don't know much about this girl or even see her play so I don't get why everyones saying she's bad. She's being trained in SlayerS FYI. You think she'll slack?

Its not just about vaginas. its about gender identity established in culture. When you see EVE do well or beat someone, will you have the same thought? Again, we havn't seen anything, so how can you jump to conclusions?

I'm not sure why people are going on about her being in diamond league. Oftentimes players are scouted for their future potential to improve, not their current skill level.

I do not approve of what you are doing with Eve or the way you have handled the situation.

Don't sue me. Oh wait, you can't, I don't live in S. Korea.

I don't condone the ridiculous sexism/trolling against Eve, but the bizarre sexist way that you have rose her up to the team (comparing her playing against males to the first steps of a toddler??) and the over reaction you followed it up with don't get a thumbs up from me.

The simple fact is no Korean male in diamond league would be added to Slayers.

The bizarre way Jessica and Slayers are going about this is because she is a girl. If you think thats good or bad, whatever. I personally don't think girls are toddlers who need to be congratulated for being gold and silver league players, but if you are ok with that sexism because its allowing a girl to "become a pro gamer" than whatever.

Ok, Imagine the same situation but with a different female gamer that SlayerS have just recruited

this female has been recruited and has already shown results by beating several top Code A players
how much more better of an impression would have that made of female gamers?

SlayerS are just trying to speed things up in the wrong way, it is a high possibility that eventually a talented female individual will appear on the Starcraft 2 scene and own shit up! But no the impression SlayerS have made is just a bad one on themselves by basically saying that there are no good female gamers at the moment so we'll take this one that's in diamond league and is pretty.

That's not what the post says though...
Jessica says she has "sufficient potential" but then goes on to say she is there "not inducted so that she would achieve incredible feats in individual leagues like the GSL. She is here to make the game more entertaining and to show that unlike in Starcraft 1, female players can easily do well in Starcraft 2."

If she said something more like "She wasn't recruit to IMMEDIATELY achieve..." your reading works but not as it is.

I'm sure that this is not the message Jessica intended to send, but the way it is worded really makes it seem like Eve is not meant to compete on the same level, even given development.

If she was masters maybe. I really don't think much potential can be found in a diamond player. Do you think a diamond level male would ever be picked up by a team like Slayers?
