Whenever you hit post in this thread, think long and hard. Are you showing the proper amount of respect? If that is not the case, do not hit the post button. |
EXTREMELY well written, slayers is such an amazing team and it is so cool to not only see them promote players like eve to introduce female pro gamers, but to continue with Boxer, even long after his prime that he still works so hard to help his fans.
And on top of that then the honor and dignity that you throw back at those who hate and defile you is remarkable, while so many people would just crumble and aggressively retaliate, you have been a great force for good and showing the world what a real pro gamer and pro gaming team should be, and why it should not only be accepted in Korea, but around the world.

She isn't a professional. (eve). She's a gimmick as we would call it in America. It's a monetary and organized push for something that will never be. My team does it as well. In fact last night I allowed a female to start in the league match because of the same reason. Sex appeal and the glamor of a woman player.
This happens every day and it's pathetic to waste court resources when their are many other serious issues going on. so you are from the future ? Female gaming will never be up to par with male gaming. It's like any other sport. It's funny how this is called sexism. When the only reason she was chosen was because she is a female Wrong. Saying the only reason she was chosen is because she is female ignores the fact that SlayerS also saw potential in her. Or is BoxeR's ability to spot potential suddenly null and void due to how Eve is a woman? except this kid prob doesn't even respect BoxeR.

You have my support, there will always be people on the internet hating on others because that's all they can do. The best thing to do would be to just ignore it and it'll eventually die but taking a stand and making an example of one of the haters works too lol

I will always be a Slayers fan, and Limyohwan fan, A jessica fan and a esports fan.
Lots of us love you, and the haters are just childish fools who think they have to express their opinion on everything.

why does it have to be on par? a lot of female sports aren't on par with their male counterparts, does that mean they should all just not play and just go home? why can't females pursue their own dreams?
they want to get more females into esports, i dont see how that's a bad thing.

I see a lot of people posting stupid things in this thread still giving their critique to Jessica even though she pointed out pretty well why she selected Eve and a lot of people still calling Jessica stuff that she simply isn't. Also a lot of sexist remarks by multiple posters here.

If you were in grandmasters on KR, playing against professionals, how would you feel when your chance to join a team is taken by someone else because she's a girl and you're a guy? But do you know for sure that Eve was chosen over a GM KR player? I'm positive there a lot more amazing players on the KR servers that teams haven't picked up. They've probably had people with lower skill chosen over them too. You don't necessarily choose someone based straight on skill, you choose someone based on if they have potential to be even better, if they can represent the team well not only in the game but in public, how well they work with the rest of the team.. Jessica said she chose Eve because she saw she had potential and wanted to get more female players into the pro SC2 scene. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the way she chose or what she's doing.
Come off it, Eve would never have been chosen if she were not female. She is a diamond player: she is not some brilliant, soon-to-be pro level worldsmasher than Jessica somehow brilliantly picked out. There are hundreds or thousands of players with more potential and skill than her right now. You really can't make an argument to that. She was picked because of her gender, not her skill. The question, though, is whether that type of affirmative action is right/acceptable/correct or not, with respect to the larger picture of female gamers in esports and so on, and that's a complex topic.

Well written. There was no reason for people to harass her, and SlayerS, Boxer, and you have always been classy professionals, so I hope those people get what's coming to them.

It was enlightening to read that. I just hope Jessica understands that most of us on TeamLiquid do not speak korean and as such we only have access to small bits of information that is translated for us (thank you translators). So sometimes we have to speculate the rest of the information and can be wrong about it. SlayerS Fighting!

But I also don't support the people who are saying anything worse than what I just said, nor do I support any of the supposed hatred and pictures which I haven't seen. Yeah, ladder ranking is all that people should consider when giving someone an opportunity to play on a team................. :o edit - Go SlayerS! And go BoxeR!!!!!!! <3 I didn't mean to imply that ladder ranking was the only important factor, but I do think it's quite a bit more important than gender and looks, which have been explicitly stated as reasons why she was added to the team.If you were in grandmasters on KR, playing against professionals, how would you feel when your chance to join a team is taken by someone else because she's a girl and you're a guy? I know a lot of people support affirmative action in e-Sports, but I'm not one of them. yes this is why people have to check their information is this information comes from thisisgame.com it was a speculation of the journalist not an actual statement of the team check it for yourself : http://thisisgame.com/board/view.php?id=703754&category=102 From the OP: Show nested quote +She was not selected through the pro-gamer casting system, but she is someone I selected for the team to help start having female competitors in Starcraft 2 Maybe I was wrong about the looks part, but my point stands. Gender shouldn't be a factor at all.
Why shouldn't gender be a factor? It's their team, and they want to do more than just make a strong team - they want to help e-Sports grow. If you watched BoxeR's Wings, you'd see the sheer amount of passion and effort Jessica and BoxeR put into creating their team. Finding sponsors, finding a team house, all while Jessica took care of BoxeR while BoxeR practiced for the GSL. And after all that hard work from scratch, suddenly they can't recruit whoever they damn well please? What's with this idealistic sense of entitlement?

I have nothing against your plans for Eve, and it would be great if things work out how you wanted them to.
However, that's a lot of text for this topic. I would have preferred to close this drama with a simple, straight to the point post.

Jessica, most of us on TL are not arguing because of we have high moral. We are simply surprised by your lack of internet PR experience. If you really want to take Slayers to the next level(or just to survive), you need to learn to take/ignore criticism from the average random person.
Also remember : Because of you actions, you are now a troll target, be ready for more.

Great post!
It is unfortunate so many people are filled with hate and jump to conclusions
thankfully though it has been cleared that you are not suing Mr Haeun_Cielu, and that he need not worry anymore
|
Jessica, thank you for the post and the detail you went through to explain the situation. I applaud your efforts to be more inclusive and grow Esports/SC2 to a larger audience. I am saddened and sorry that you, SlayerS, and especially Eve have to endure the persecution of elitist personalities who have no idea that games are meant to be fun, entertaining, and inclusive. SC2 (& BW) has a passionate community, and while the vast majority channel this passion to support teams, GSL, etc., there are those who only want to destroy. I encourage you to continue your efforts despite these headwinds, and I look forward to more ladies participating at all levels in the future.

Thanks for the explanation, Jessica. I don't think we necessarily deserved one, but as djWheat said: "One troll at a time."
