I just honestly don't understand why they would not sign contracts.

And EG are the unprofessional ones...

Mind Blown.
Still waiting on that statement EG!!

Even if a contract had existed, that would not stop Puma from leaving and joining EG.

Yes, but if a contract existed it would actually be "fair" to contact his team first, instead of player directly.

But as it stands, he was a free agent. He was not contracted by any team. I don't see any reason why any company that wanted to contract Puma should contact anybody about this but Puma himself.

Thanks very much for that link guys. I'm going to update the OP with that information. Definitely suggests that there was some contract between TSL and PuMa, but who knows whether this incident implicates any of its terms.

Coach Lee confirms that Puma had no contract.

That certainly seems to be the implication of his first paragraph. If this is the case I can only say that I am surprised TSL would hang the security of its business venture on expectations (however strong) that players will always shy away from attractive offers purely because of an unwritten ethical code.

Seriously, what were they thinking. >.>

Even if they didn't pay Puma, providing food/housing/etc. is a basis for creating a contract. Even without NCC and all that other stuff, if they exists they could still seek damages. It's just so bizarre that they wouldn't have him sign anything in order to join the house.

No it isn't. There is clearly no contract here. Unless there was a verbal understanding that Puma would stay for an extended period of time.

The service TSL provided Puma was the food/housing/etc. The service TSL received was ability to use Puma in Team Leagues, Puma representing them, etc. for the time that Puma was there.

Nowhere in there does it suggest that TSL and Puma are in a long-term relationship. If it was then one could say the relationship must be extended indefinitely, right?

So the korean SC2 scene is being run by amateurs, no wonder it isn't exactly thriving.

This is new. The Korean sc2 scene being called amateurs. wow

The Korean sc2 scene is imo amateurs when they let a player join with no contract.

Now what I'd like to see is EGs statement of this matter. But I dont really understand this fishing tactic that you try to get players from different teams, so silly and shady. I was wishing that this shit wasn't true but atleast for now I gotta believe TSL coach statement over EGs no comments at the moment. Disapointed EG fan here

Coach Lee said the Korean SC2 association is doing something to prevent this to happen again. Wonder what they could really do besides increasing player salaries and requiring contracts. Which is what needed to be done anyway.

Well, Lee's given us his input. Now EG has to step up to the plate.

-shrug- It's pretty clear cut from their PoV.

Puma approchs them interested in joining.
EG finds out Puma has no contract.
EG does a happy dance.
EG signs Puma.
TSL does a sad dance.

puma did not approach them first, lol

How do you know?

EG says they were approched, TSL coach says EG approched Puma. It's a giant game of he said / she said so instead of dealing with that I just used the phrase from their PoV. I'm not making any bold claims about which side is bullshitting to save face.

That's fair enough, but coach Lee has a good reputation, and EG's is not as sterling.

What's amusing to me is that EG's known about this, or the possibility at least, since NASL finals 11 days ago and Sir Scoots just laughed at our collective absence of fact checking, while providing none himself.

and TSL has had what, 4 people in the last month "leave" or for a lack of a better word, not on TSL anymore? While you can say he has a "better" reputation than EG, there's still something going on at TSL to have that many people leave in such a short period of time.

In any case just poorly handed situation altogether really and it just seems like a big pissing contest with "he said this but I said this" garbage as we don't really know who to believe.

Wow teamEG is freaking messed up. Approaching puma and sen + which ever other players according to xeris and coach lee is desperate crap. Fxo's approach to Fou was manly hence everyone's appreciation. EG's approach was disgusting

You need contracts. It would be chaos otherwise (I'm surprised there hasn't been more cases like this one). Contracts run out and then other teams can buy the player. Thats the way it should work.

well at least they know now. if they want to keep players..PUT IT IN WRITING!!!

I have absolutely no problem with EG fishing for a Korean ace player....headhunting is all the rage in football (or soccer for Americans)

This. A contract is not always a piece of paper. It is normally a piece of paper because it is a convenient form to record an agreement and proove that agreement.

Damn this story is completely different now from last night, and far less controversial IMO....

I sincerely doubt that PuMa approached EG. But really, that doesn't matter.

Here's an unknown:

When Puma told Manager Lee that he wanted to join EG had he already signed a contract with EG? If he had not then this is the opportunity for TSL to offer Puma a better deal than what he is getting with EG. And if that's the case then a fair transaction has taken place. Puma was offered a better salary and living conditions and because TSL had decided not to contract Puma they lost him.

From what I understand most Korean teams do not have contracts etc. Korean culture is very different than ours, and in Korea, a team would not have done what EG did. They have different concepts of duty and obligation and EG took advantage of that it would seem.

I'm pretty sure not having a signed contract means you're a free agent.
I mean, maybe we're just using different definitions of what being a "free agent" means.

Why the hell would PuMa just randomly contact EG and say hey I wanna join you guys. Lol if you believe that. It's obvious EG approached him.

I also hear EG gear is made in Taiwanese sweatshops and that they don't feed their players breakfast in their team house until they win 20 games that morning...

In all seriousness though, this seems pretty silly. It is clear that Puma was on a team. When you try to recruit him, there is no way to say you are not trying to poach him from his team, whether there was a contract in place or not. It seems pretty dirty from my perspective - perhaps it doesn't seem dirty from another perspective.

We should wait for a comment from EG before we make the sort of claims some of you have been making in this thread.
