Actually, when they are under contract and they want to move, they just whine in the clubhouse. If that doesn't work, they complain to the press. Then, once they become toxic to the team morale, ownership has no choice but to give in to the player and trade them where they want. These kinds of things happen in sports - it just looks different because of the governing body and league rules. Really... That's the crap justification you're gonna use to make it all better? wow. Why do I have to justify anything? I didn't do anything. Nor did I mention Puma or TSL or EG. I just said it happens in sports. I think you should tone down your anger.
You're obviously angry reading this, since that's the only reason you could have for coming up with me being angry... I'm not angry at all, I don't care enough about EG to get pissed over this, it's just really shady. And even if you're in contract with a team (going back to what you said) they cannot just terminate the contract. The other team has to buy out the contract first.

On a more serious note, I'd guess Puma speaks a bit of English at least (that's part of a standard education in Korea isn't it?), and will learn more.

Oh well, I guess Koreans will stop sending their players to international events for a while now. good job Eccentric Genius.

Puma accepted the deal guys. If there is someone you should be mad at, it would be him. He made the decision and I'm sure he is happy because of it. I wish him the best of luck.

Puma with no decent practice partners has no chance whatsoever to do great in the future.

I don't think this situation at all will lead to a reluctance of Korean teams or players participating in foreign events.

Why should it be different in esports? If Puma had some contractual obligation then he would need to negotiate out of the contract. What is it with management acting as if they own their employees? That is not how it operates in America at all. 1. TSL made it possible for Puma to become this good and basicly paid for his "qualification". Now that finally that pays dividends EG comes a picks him up instead putting the money in developing own talents. 2. What's even worse imo (if that is all true, I'm still waiting for an official statement), you don't approach a 19yr old boy who's probably abroad for the first time and make him an offer a kid can't really comprehend. Wait for him to return home to korea and contact him and his parents while also informing TSL of this move, that would have been the better way. We still don't know everything but the op states that they contacted him while the tournament wasn't even finished and that's not responsible at all imo, even if I certainly hope he took this offer home and discussed it throroughly with his parents. 1. If a team wants to stipulate that they have the exclusive rights to a player's 'talent' if they are the people that cultivated that talent, then they need to put that in a contract. Plain and simple. 2. Really? At 19 people are not able to comprehend offers? I know that I was married, had a full time job, had an apartment, was paying insurance, healthcare bills, and picking a major in schhool that determines my life direction at the age of 19. That's plenty old, and definitely old enough for the parents to be left out of it. That is, unless there is some strange cultural thing I'm missing where Koreans feel that 19 is still a kid. If that's the case, that's sad.
1. It's not about whether it's legal, it's about whether it's ethical.
2. I don't agree at all. 19yr olds are kids and especially vulnerable in a foreign environment. If you think otherwhise, I think we have to agree to disagree. Reminds me of Benjamin Button...

You're right, it was about Liquid not entering a league.

"Same old EG.. things never change. Every other pro team has respect for one another and approach the players the right way.. I'm not one bit surprised EG pulled this off. They've been doing this ever since quakeworld.
I don't know why there are comparisons between this and FXO acquiring FoU. The FXO/FoU deal was handled through the team managers vs. going behind a teams back and picking up their players. Its called professionalism, and obviously EG lacks it."
--- Are you serious? When you have a job in the real world and another company wants to hire you, the company does not go and talk to your boss to see if that's "ok". SC2 does not have an all-encompassing governing body similar to the NBA, NFL, MLB, etc. so they can and will exercise their rights to pursue a possible employee. If you actually think that this was a dirty move by EG than you have unrealistic views of how business is done. Please, do not post when you are oblivious to what it is you're talking about. --------------------Congratulations EG, I think this is awesome, only question is if he will stay in Korea w/ another team possibly or come to the AZ house. EG Hwaitiiiiinnnnnngggggg!

(Sorry it's a wikipedia link, but I think some people should read it).
What went on here, if it is as claimed (EG approached Puma directly), would result in fines and bans of various sorts in other sports. If you think it's acceptable, then what do you think of rules against such actions in other (professional) sports?

Lol EG always with the bad manner
|
come on. i just picked up puma for my fantasy team last week. looks like i have to trade again.
|
I am just moderately shocked that no one at EG ever seems to foresee the bruhaha that these things stir up.
They do something that a lot of the community thinks is shady, then come on (their own show) and try to explain how it wasn't shady, to whatever degree of success. Then they seem to want to blame the community for blowing something up. My favorite part is where they say that they don't owe it to the community to explain. While I don't expect 100% disclosure, the idea that they don't have to explain is disingenuous...
When your corporation relies on the goodwill of a community because you are solely sponsored by marketing dollars, you need better PR.
Of course, they could just be operating on the principle that any publicity is good publicity....

I find this news particularly ironic because of the subject matter of last nights extended 'live on 3', which features Sir Scoots as a regular. Basically they were scolding people for making bad business practices and effectively "stealing" players, then lo and behold this news comes out. Pretty funny.
|
Isn't it Ironic that Sirscoots was talking about player deal dispute between with SK and Fanatic on LIveOnThree #80 and now he's dealing same thing with Eg and TSL over Puma.

fail.
Contracts people, contracts.
Also SK just offered to pay for Nada and MC. Plenty more Koreans to foreign tournaments inc. Don't jump to conclusions over this.

all assumptions Promoting this post simply because when I read the bolded line that EXACTLY summed up how it seems like the whole thing has gone down and I laughed. Now I won't be able to get it out of my head. Sorry Coach Lee ;;
I think Coach Lee isn't that sort of person. And its totally possible he discussed it with his teammates without letting the coach know. Like when everybody's sleeping in the bunk. And in Puma's tweet earlier he didn't mention discussing it with his coach.
