You don't always have to fight for the people close to you. If they don't care or can't fight for themselves, what then ? Wasting your time and ignore them ? Isnt that some kind of stubborness ? You have to thrust your family/friends/etc otherwise you will go mad. Im saying, your priorities arent necessary the ones he has.

Last edit : anyway, last post from me. Korea doesnt seem to see it like everyone else and I am getting in an argument that I can't win anyway.

Actually the more I think about it, and the more I read into Korean law I'm with SlayerS Jessica. All she's doing is being proactive and taking information to the authorities (and that's normal and acceptable in Korea) - It's up to them if they do anything about it, and it makes them aware of specific potentially problematic weirdos.

You want to protect your 22 years old adult daughter(which you put in the spotlight in the first place) from the internet? Don't you feel that's too unrealistic? And why you put her onto the internet in the first place if you want to protect her?
Hypocrisy?

Some of us value the RIGHTS of everyone DESPITE our emotions. I don't think in the USA there is anything illegal about photoshopping someone "famous" into a pornographic picture. So no matter how it may make you feel, respecting the free speech of another person is far more important than wasting your energy being angry.

Its so frightning how little life is worth over there, when someone could risk getting sent to jail over some random celebrity trolling. I dont know how the jails are in south korea, but i bet it wont be nice, and I dont know how easy it is to recuperate and slip back into society again after, but im guessing getting a job wont be easy. Reminds me of somekind of medevil village where people get their head chopped off after talking crap about the king in a tavern. 16 years old is abit young to be in the spotlight, but u cant cater the world after your ego, and if u really cant take it, then maybe u shouldnt join the team of the most famous celebrity in the country.
Its self rightousness and honor gone wild, and a desperate lack of compassion, and over seriousness. When ur honor is worth more then the life of another, what kind of honor is that?

so that i do not have to worry that much about going to jail for something i said? This troubles me that in korea you can get sent to jail for something you say which is rather preposterous.
Now harassment is an entirely different subject but that usually takes at least fifty threatening messages before it is even looked into (made up number but it is quite a few though).
feel sorry for the slayers fan though, just offering some constructive criticism :/. lol, most of the people that jessica is suing is in fact the ones that were harassing. she obviously isn't suing people that gave constructive criticism. although I do agree on some parts that she is over reacting, I've seen the photoshopped pictures and the posts myself and I don't think she's over reacting to those at all. there were photos of eve's face photoshopped into porn screenshots with things written below defaming the entire slayers team or jessica or boxer etc. well i said i feel sorry for the slayers fan and that was all, the rest of your post is well not going against my post so no arguments there.... you were bringing up freedom of speech which implied that you were saying what she is doing is against freedom of speech, thought it was funny nah you can't get sent to jail for something you said on that one day on the internet......which is what i am saying if she is overreacting to some peoples comments that maybe were just telling what happened but in a rather maybe vulgar manner? they get sent to jail for that? really? thats not possible here in the USA so we do not have to worry that much about things like this.... and yes it is against freedom of speech,if i can get sent to jail for something i say did i have the freedom to say it? not really because there was a price i payed to say that
Don't harassment and libel both apply to situations where you could in the USA?
EDIT: Just noticed jail. My bad, I don't believe you can get jail time for libel. Civil suit, right?

On July 20 2011 05:37 iNfeRnaL wrote: LOL, that many posts she wants to take to the police (court)? Really...? What did she expect anyway, everyone to be happy about the new gold league SlayerS member...?!? Even if it had been a guy - erase the sexual harassment (which obviously IS fail.) you'd still have countless guys flaming because of the lack of skills (compared to OTHER slayers members not in general.) want to sue them all because of complaining about the skill of the new member? -_-
I just don't like where this is going in general- Imagine you can actually get sued for saying somebody played really bad and/or is a really bad player in your opinion (as long as you don't call him idiot/retard/whatever) - good bye criticism? [Don't get me wrong, death-threats, obnoxious sexist shit and what not should definitely not be tolerated, but looking at the paper stack that must've been everyone including the ones that only said "she fucking sucks"] first off she is not suing anyone. she is reporting the case to the police and the DA (staatsanwalt, as you seem to be from germany). the DA will determine if the case should be brought to trial or not. so if the DA says that he believes that the case should not be brought to trial all the work kim gayeon did there will be null and void
second off, in this case there were posts that were criminal offenses according to the korean criminal code as well as the german strafgesetzbuch (Paragraph 185 in particular). There is a difference between stating your opinion and doing it in a defaming way (This is what the german constitutional court says about this matter : „Eine Meinungsäußerung wird nicht schon wegen ihrer herabsetzenden Wirkung für Dritte zur Schmähung. In other words. you can criticize. you can overreact while criticizing. but you are not allowed to have the purpose of your comments solely be the defamation of another person. Now if you are saying that editing slayers eves face into a porn vid or some of the comments those people made (for example what i read in a korean forum: slayers boxer is a mental retard because he allowed a girl to join his team) is just overreacting critique and not a comment that only tries to defame someone then i believe we are on different terms here
oh and this of course does not reflect the korean situation in anyway (the criminal code is much stricter about defamation in general and freedom of speech is not explicitly guaranteed in the constitution either). i just wanted to present you this case in your national law that you can understand her point of view

Wow. A screenshot of a forum post printed out is evidence in Korea? Thats must be the anti pirate org's wet dream.
Also, "you suck at english" makes jessica go full attack on the fans mode, seems pretty stupid. I played over 500 games of hon, and 80% of the players i play with would get a death sentence if bad behavier on the internet was punishable by law. I've been told every name in the book, countless irl death threats, explicit descriptions of how players are having intercourse with my various family members (some of which doesnt even exist since i dont have sisters) and my personal favorite internet tough guy threat: "I've scanned your ip, ill be comming to do X to you and your family.
While hte HoN community is much much worse than the sc2 community, you will never get rid of this sort of internetty behavier. It's a natural force of nature sadly.

This is already at 50 pages so my voice is going to be totally drowned out but...
It's one thing to be rude on the internet. Fine, whatever. It's one thing to flame someone who has been acting out of line. Fine, whatever. It's another thing entirely when netizens abuse their "anonymity" and create a culture of hostility and complete disregard for others. Something has to be done if e-sports are going to continue growing. I think I'll stand behind Jessica on this. It may be draconian, but in the long run it's for the better.

Well ... she is famous, she is with Slayers. The 2 times winner of GSTL without having any individual 1v1 champion. Being famous is enough on the Internet to be photoshopped. I mean, it shouldnt happen, but it is like that.

I've replied to you before and you've gotten other people to reply to the same things - yes, if you put your grown up daughter on spotlight, be prepared to deal with the consequences.
This isn't a case for fighting or protecting or defending someone. This isn't a real threat. This is nothing. I will say once more, if something like this affects you - perhaps you need to adjust your priorities in life accordingly.
What the team is doing isn't wise at all. If anything, they should know better that something like this (going even as far as advertising what they're about to do) isn't going to put an end to this, but stir more shit up.
I'd like to ask you instead - what you expect would happen if you announced (together with pictures) that a young female (not known to be a good player) is joining a sc progaming team? Everyone cheering and rainbows flying around?

Yea, kind of different when the gun is pointed at you. Is it really OK to appeal to authorities when someone criticizes you? If there's an actual case for harassment, terroristic threats, etc., then of course that's another situation. Tweeting that Slayers_Jessica might be a bit silly trotting out this girl in front of the cameras just because she's pretty and plays SC2 is a legitimate criticism. As for 4-chan style things, well, maybe Jessica can build a case in Korea. For me, though, the girl is 22 years old or whatever and is now in the public's eye (thanks to Jessica). That makes her fair game parody, criticism, satire, whatever. It just seems like to me that Jessica has not had any experience with the internet in this respect. We all know that ignoring the trolls is the right thing to do (because there will be trolls no matter what). Until it becomes real harassment or turns into a life threatening situation, there's just no point in making this big of an issue about it. What about photoshopping your daughter or friend into porn pictures? like stated in the OP What if your daughter or your friend was 22 years old and was a public figure? Are you going to sue or rage against every single instance of a pornographic photoshop? I don't think any celebrities would get anything else done if they did that in real life. If I am famous and I have a daughter(and she is also in the spotlight like Eve), I would definitely expect her to be photoshop by some kid and that kid is probably jacking off to her picture every night. But the less obvious but important thing is, I and a lot of people on TL understand that you have to expect that from the internet if you are famous. Jessica doesn't. And ironically, her job requires her to understand these "internet culture" if you are a father that doesnt protect your child from internet difamation then im sorry for your child. Eve isn't a child. yes but she is a very young individual that gets her face edited in porn vids only because she sat with her team. thats the only crime she commited. sitting among the slayers team.
It's just part of life. You will find out eventually and probably like a lot of us, come to accept it. If you cannot understand it, you will end up living a very angry life.

When ur honor is worth more then the life of another, what kind of honor is that? lets not blow this out of proportion Paragraph 307 of the korean criminal code says imprisonment under 2 years or penalty fee of 5 million won (about 4000 dollars). this is the maximum you can get and judges usually dont go that far.
most of the posters will probably not get to trial due to the DA not pursue prosecution anyway.
the guy that did that pornographic post however will be punished a lot harder.
