Most people don't understand how netizens are in Korea. There has been a case, where there were rumors about a retired actress who moved to america.
The rumors were that She was the mistress of a famous actor, and that the reason the wife commited suicide was because of the affair. Then the husband killed himself because his wife committed suicide.
During this time, the retired actress came to visit korea with her young sons, they were like 4 and 7. She was recognized on the street by two women, and not knowing about the allegations, thought they were just fans of her old movies.
The two woman started to beat up the retired actress in front of her two sons, yelling that the retired actress was a horrible person and should be punished for causing so much pain to the families of the people who committed suicide.
People kill themselves in Korea for being harrassed online. So I don't understand why people think Jessica is overreacting.
Slander is against the law. The retired actress was able to prosecute the kid who started the rumor about her, so Jessica can protect her team members.
How can Jessica, the team manager, do nothing when one of the team is being harrassed into quitting. I would find it upsetting if Jessica did nothing.

It makes me sad that so many people already consider flaming and bad manner 'normal' (internet) behavior.

She is the manger??!! Seriously boxer?
What kind of business decision is that? Just look at her action you can tell she has very little experience in the field. She would never gotten this job if she went through the normal procedures. For the sake of Slayers, get another person or get her a PR adviser. Yeah Jessica was in eSports before her and Boxer got together, and she has been the manager of SlayerS for a pretty long time now and there have been no problems whatsoever. This is interesting, do you know how long she was in this profession? I would like to know more. Regarding the 2nd part, clearly this and some of the previous twitts are "signs" of her problem. Here is the best I could find as far as her past involvement in eSports and her role in SlayerS now: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=236783She has had a decent amount of involvement in eSports for a long time now, although she hasn't had management experience before her involvement in SlayerS as far as I know. However my point was that you were making loosely based claims without providing any significant support for them, and that she is probably more qualified then you know.
Even if she didn't have as great of qualifications as another major teams manager- She is BoxeRs girlfriend. You think they don't discuss the team or that during difficult decisions they do not ask each other?
-_- imma throw a table.

I understand. My first post was a bit vague. And thanks for the link.

That is one of the many normal behaviors on the internet because people feel secure that whatever they say online protects them. Do you honestly believe that someone would say things in real life that they would normally say online? Doubt it. If you are a member of forums and what not, you should expect people to flame or insult others. Just look at some of the posts in this thread or any other thread on TL.

Good for her. We need more people willing to step up and hold people accountable for how they conduct themselves online.

Excellent post.
Regarding the OP, I've got the image of Jay and Silent Bob tracking down all the lamers that dissed them on Moviepoopshoot.com and roflstomping them.

It's a fairly ridiculous concept that you can take those kind of comments to the police. Perhaps I am not aware of other, more malicious and slanderous comments made about her that were possibly lies intended to defame her, but otherwise there is no reason why something simply said about you in a critical yet not malicious way on the internet should be able to be taken to the police. Think of the implications of that. I understand there is a limit. Outright bullying and the fabrication of extreme lies for the purpose of causing harm to her public image should not be acceptable... but to simply bring criticism to the police, regardless of where you live, is outrageous.

well in korea the culture is different and take defamation very seriously. this is why it is possible to legally and successfully pursue cases such as this. Slayers_Jessica is just bringing down the hammer because she knows she can and because she knows that drastic actions such as this will deter future trolls.

Please read the page you posted on, if not more of the thread. Then you might understand LuCiD37

Or the OP. It's not criticism, it's slander and defamation.

You mother fuckers are hilarious. We apparently have people on this forum who shrug off pornographic photoshopped images of an innocent girl, verbal sexual threats and the like, as if it's not even a big deal; but when the NASL finals day 1 had poor audio and wait times, the whole fucking world apparently died. You should pay more attention, exactly 0 people have defended the people that issued verbal sexual threats or photoshopped images onto AV, the problem is that she's (allegedly) pretty much pulling everyone to the police that issued any form of criticism to her hiring someone in a professional e-sports team based on "looks", which is quite worrying, and for some reason is so enraged that she's reading private tweets of 16 year old girls and arguing with them because of their "rude tone" towards her (in a message that was not even meant for her).
Basically, we're saying she's a control freak and overreacting on most fronts. She wants to see "justice no matter the costs", which is about the worst attitude you can have, both in life and as a team captain. I completely agree with taking people that actually threatened Eve to the police, and I doubt anyone here disagrees, but when you're actually shitting on your teams fans to achieve this you're just not doing what's good for your own team which is a true shame. SlayerS deserves better than that.

I can fault his post because he is saying people with a different opinion than him are mf. The problem seems he doesn't realise not every one has upstanding priorities or morals like him.
When people trash a city after losing a sport event, its the same thing as saying the audio is bad for the NASL final.
When a sporting event happens like the stanley cup in vancouver, they hire police to deal with the event. So when you are on a forum and someone post a photoshopped picture or whatever, mods are dealing with it usually.
On the other hand, if you go looking for stupid shit on the Internet, you will find it, 100% garantee.
What I am trying to say is the Internet is kinda like a living organism. There are people/apps/softwares to deal with the crap to allow a place where you can truly say what you want or VENT.
Where else can you do that ? Everyone needs to vent sometimes and when you do, you say stupid shit at random people who don't deserve it most of the time. At least this way, you don't have to look in the eyes of the people you hit or kicked in real life.

To all the people saying this is an overreaction: Would you just simply sit there if this happened to you, your daughter, or friend? Yea, kind of different when the gun is pointed at you.

May I ask what happened the last time you were insulted on the internet? Did you call the police? Rant on your FB/Twitter acc?

To all the people saying this is an overreaction: Would you just simply sit there if this happened to you, your daughter, or friend? Yea, kind of different when the gun is pointed at you. If people made rude comments about them on 4chan? I think the worst thing you could do in that situation is react, at all.
People kill themselves in Korea for being harrassed online. Yea, that sucks. People kill themselves "for tons of reasons", at least that's what people think. Mainly it's just because they get depressed because of real life issues, not because they listened to Marilyn Manson, or played video games, or someone was mean to them on the internet. Maybe there have been a few cases where that actually happened (the sole cause of someone killing themselves was because they were harrassed online), but I highly doubt that actually happens in anywhere close to relevant numbers. It's just picking the wrong cause of something because people always need to point the finger at something.
|
It's hard to make an accurate assessment of the situation without more details. From what I have gathered there is definitely some content worth reporting to the police and definitely content not worth reporting to the police. What actual content she gives the police is unknown, just because she has a huge desk full of comments doesn't necessarily mean she is going to crackdown on all of them. She may just be organizing the comments and sifting through what should and shouldn't be investigated. I don't know if she is overreacting, perhaps in some instances she is but with the growing impact of the internet these days on people's lives, people shouldn't get away with everything they used to. In a nutshell I think she is doing the right thing but she may be going overboard with it.
