How do everyone who loves the "mechanics" argument defend against this parody?
Hotkeying building is easy compared to Warcraft 2 where you had to go to base and manually build stuff. The skill cieling is lowered with the addition of bigger control groups and being able to hotkey production buildings. BW would be alot better without all the pandering to all the casuals of the 90's. Players would differentiate themselves on the INSANE mechanics required for Warcraft 2 as it was way harder to play and had more hurdles to jump, BW is casual and should not be considered a esport. - That's how all these complains sounds to me, BW did fine even if it provided UI/AI improvements and SC2 will do fine. (I know there's more to WC2 vs BW but it's just a fun example)
I think karpo sums it up nicely, all this whine is unjustified, majority of people are just biased ~~ While some arguments are great to ponder on I think SC2 can develop as good as it's predecessor. There's just different things people will be great in, macro isn't the only important thing in RTS games.
I repeat again. All an RTS needs is a mouse with one button. Remove the keyboard and remove the right click and you have the bare minimum to be able to play an RTS.
Anything above a one button mouse is pandering to noobs.
SC2 is doing nothing wrong in it's attempt to be user friendly. The larger te player pool the more accurate the champion is at the end of the day.

What're you talking about? A true bonjwa plays with no keyboard + a touchpad.
Can we delete this thread? I don't even know where to start on how wrong this was. Do you remember when Brood War first came out? It's not like one player just won 100% of the time, there was a huge level of fluctuation between players, just like in SC2 right now, it will take YEARS for the greats to stabilize. This threads author shows a significant lack of understanding of competitive gaming, especially in the early stages of a game.

actually war2 has 0 micro and only one viable race. The skill ceiling is waaay lower... the only thing hard in war2 is macro... thats it.
It's not just that sc2 is easier than BW... its that its ridiculously easier then BW
Also you can hotkey buildings and make control groups in war2.

Nah, IcedBacon is only implying that it will become more entertaining than it is at the moment.
I think its more about making the platinum player watching the game who has only the vaguest understanding of strategy think that the game is "strategic"

So the game isn't strategic?
ya
What sc2 will degenerate into is build order vs build order due to there being 0 difference between the pros mechanics wise. So if you call choosing a build order that counters his build order before the game even starts strategy and outsmarting your opponent then yeah sc2 is going be very strategic.
