- Your thoughts advancing to the round of 16?
I am happy because it has been a while. But the road remaining is still long.
- You had 3 other terrans in your group.
Because of the format, and since everyone else was terran, it made my practice simpler. I was really confident during practice.
- The match against Byun must have been critical for you.
In practice, it seemed like my base sprawled out toward my expansions, which made it vulnerable to medivac harassment. But I was able to stop that pretty well, and I am glad that I won that game.
- Were you sure of your victory after killing all those ghosts?
Because ghosts cost a lot of gas, I knew that he wouldn’t have much invested in tanks or thors.
- It seemed like you were having a bit of a spat against Byun during the group nominations.
I lost to him last time on Terminus, so I practiced extremely hard to win that today.
- Did you think Byun would be so against being picked by you in the group nominations?
I think I can understand him a bit. And if it that makes it more fun for the viewers that is even better.
- You seemed extremely strong against MVP?
I was not afraid of him. I have beaten him before so I treated the match like I was facing any other terran.
- Is playing zerg hard?
Each race has its own thing they have to deal with, but out of all of them, zerg has to deal with the most. But once you get over all that, I don’t think playing zerg isn’t that bad. It just feels harder because the way you play the race changes so quickly.
- It seems like you have been quite busy recently.
Being busy is good. Not being busy means you aren’t earning money.
- You will be participating in the NASL grand finals.
I will be leaving for the US in two days. I have had great practice recently, so I think I am in good shape to win the tournament.
- The opponent you want to face in the round of 16?
I just want to avoid playing against SuperNova on my team. I think he is a good player against zerg.
- Any last comments?
I want to thank Ensnare, TOP, and TheStc for helping me practice. I also want to thank NSHoSeo’s Jjakji and Choi Min Woo for helping me practice as well. I will be participating in the NASL in a few days, I hope the fans will be watching with great excitement.

▼ 16강 진출 소감은?
- 오랜만에 가서 굉장히 기쁘다. 하지만 아직 갈 길이 멀다.
▼ 같은 조에 테란만 3명이 있었는데?
- 듀얼 방식이라 종족은 다 똑같아서 연습하는 것은 편했다. 연습할 때 자신감이 많았다.
▼ 변현우와의 대결에서 위태로웠는데?
- 준비했던 운영이 멀티를 사이드 쪽으로 펼치는 것이라 의료선 견제에 휘둘릴 것 같았다. 그래도 잘 막았고, 이겨서 다행이다.
▼ 유령을 많이 잡은 것이 승부에 영향을 끼쳤나?
- 유령에 가스를 많이 투자했으니, 공성전차나 토르가 적어서 이길 수 있었던 것 같다.
▼ 변현우와 조 지명식 때 기 싸움이 치열했는데?
- 전에 종착역에서 패한 기억이 있어서 이번엔 반드시 이겨야겠단 생각으로 열심히 준비했다.
▼ 조 지명식 때 변현우의 격렬한 반응, 예상하지 못했나?
- 어느 정도 이해는 할 수 있다. 방송에서 그렇게 해 재밌을 수 있다면 나는 상관없다.
▼ 정종현에게 유독 강한 모습을 보이고 있는데?
- 위축되진 않는다. 이겨봤던 경험이 있어서 보통 테란들과 별 다를 것 없다는 생각이다.
▼ 저그가 어려운가?
- 종족마다 어려운 점이 다 있겠지만 그 중에서 저그가 가장 어려운 점이 많은 것 같다. 그런 것들을 극복하면 딱히 안 좋다는 생각은 들지 않는다. 다른 종족보다 변수가 많아서 어렵긴 하다.
▼ 최근에 꽤 바빠 보인다.
- 바쁜 것이 좋다. 안 바쁘면 그만큼 돈을 못 번다.
▼ NASL 본선에 참가하게 됐는데?
- 이틀 뒤에 출국한다. 최근에 연습도 잘 되고 해서 충분히 우승을 노려볼 수 있을 것 같다.
▼ 본인이 바라는 16강 상대는?
- 같은 팀의 김영진 선수만 피하고 싶다. 저그전을 잘한다고 생각하기 때문이다.
▼ 마지막으로 하고 싶은 말은?
- 연습을 도와준 김상철, 김정훈, 최연식 선수에게 고맙다. NS호서의 정지훈 선수, 그리고 조민우 선수에게도 고맙다. 며칠 뒤 NASL에 참가하게 되는데 재미있게 봐주셨으면 좋겠다.

- Your thoughts on making it to the round of 16?
I wanted to beat zerg to advance, but I ended up having to beat 2 terrans to advance. It was a difficult road, but I am glad I was able to advance even though it went differently than I expected.
- You seemed very hostile during the group nominations, why?
I thought it was ok during the group nominations, but after reading the community’s reaction back at the teamhouse. I knew that if I lost today, I would get even more flak. So I practiced my heart out to win.
- It seems like you will be creating a rivalry between you and Zenio.
I’ve read things like “I hope that Zenio and Byun create a rivalry” on the forums. I think it will be fun if we have to face each other again.
- Your ghost strategy fell apart in one swoop.
Should I say it was like a case of “ImzMode”? (**A korean saying that makes fun of people sieging their tanks prematurely or unnecessarily). But it felt great when I was sniping his overlords. I haven’t lost like that during practice so I was really disappointed when that happened. I knew he was going to counter with infestors.
- Your TvT record hasn’t been steller, but yet you beat 2 terrans to advance.
I don’t think I have been bad at it. I just don’t like to play it. I think in the past, even the games that I did lose (in TvT) were games where I made small tactical errors, not mistakes in strategy or macro. Today’s games just happened to go as I planned. It was perfect.
- You beat sC and MVP, which win do you like more?
I think my match with MVP was more memorable. When we were fighting with hellions and siege tanks, it reminded me of the SCBW days of vultures and siege tanks.
- You will need to be good at TvT to advance to the finals…
I still don’t like it. And I don’t want to do it if I don’t have to. I don’t have any confidence in winning TvTs (laugh).
- Is your goal this season still your goal to raise a dog?
Yes. I want to raise a dog. I will be able to raise one both at the team house and my home if I get to the semifinals.
- There is a high chance that you will need to face a terran in the round of 16. Who do you want to face?
I wanted to face HongUn but looking at the group it looks like that won’t happen. As for the rest, I don’t want to face any of them because they are all terrans.
- Any last comments?
I want to thank SlayerS Taeja, MMA, and my team’s Hack, IceCream, and Coca for helping me practice. I practiced with many more, and if I didn’t say your name, I am sorry. As an aside, I hope that Marineking can show his old self soon. ZeNEX has been on a winning streak lately. I hope that Kyrix can continue that trend tomorrow in his match.

▼ 먼저 16강 진출 소감?
- 저그를 잡고 올라가려고 했는데, 테란 2명을 만나 힘들거라 생각했다. 예상과 다르게 진출하게 되어 더욱 기쁜 것 같다.
▼ 조지명식에서 굉장히 격렬한 모습을 보였다. 왜 그랬나?
- 조지명식 때 는 상관없었는데, 숙소에서 커뮤티니 반응을 보니 좋지 않더라. 떨어지면 더 혼날 것 같아 독하게 연습했다.
▼ 최정민과 라이벌 구도가 생길 것 같은데.
- ‘사람들이 최정민과 변현우 라이벌 구도 생기면 좋겠다’ 란 글을 봤다. 이번에 겨뤄봤으면 재미있었을 것 같다.
▼ 유령이 한 번에 무너졌다.
- 흔히 말하는 ‘임즈모드’라고 해야 할까. 무리군주를 저격으로 잡았을 때 너무 좋았다. 연습 때도 그런 적 없었는데, 패하게 되어 너무 아쉬웠다. 원래 준비한 컨셉도 유령이었다. 최정민 선수가 감염충으로 나올 것을 예상했다.
▼ 테테전 전적이 좋지 않았는데 오늘 테란만 2번 잡았다.
- 못한 게 아니다. 싫어했을 뿐이다. 그동안 패했던 경기들도 판은 잘 짰는데 판단을 잘못해 내준 것들이라 생각한다. 오늘 경기는 생각한 대로 풀렸다. 완벽했다.
▼ 김승철과 정종현을 잡았다. 어떤 승리가 더 마음에 드나?
- 정종현 선수와의 경기가 기억에 남는다. 화염차, 공성전차 교전할 때 꼭 스타1의 벌쳐, 시즈탱크가 떠올랐다.
▼ 결승에 가기 위해선 테란전에 강해져야 하는데…
- 테란전은 여전히 싫다. 만나고 싶지 않다. 테란을 만나면 이길 자신이 없다. (웃음)
▼ 이번 시즌 목표도 강아진가?
- 그렇다. 꼭 강아지를 키우고 싶다. 4강에 가면 숙소와 집에서 강아지를 키울거다.
▼ 16강에서도 테란전을 할 가능성이 높은데, 누구와 겨루고 싶나?
- 안홍욱 선수와 겨루고 싶은데, 조 구성을 보니 힘들 것 같다. 남은 3명도 다 테란이니 그냥 다 만나기 싫다.
▼ 더 하고 싶은 말?
- 슬레이어스의 윤영서, 문성원 선수, 우리 팀의 김영일, 조재원, 최종환 선수 등 연습 도와준 분들께 감사한다. 도와주신 분들 많은데 못 밝힌 분들은 죄송하다. 그리고 해병왕 정훈이가 꼭 부활했으면 좋겠다. 이번에 ZeNEX가 모든 경기에 연승을 이어가고 있다. 내일도 한준의 경기가 있는데 꼭 이겨서 연승을 이어가 줬으면 좋겠다.

NaDa‘I want to get to the next stage.’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 16?
It hasn’t even been 1 month since my last match, but it feels more like I have been on a break for 2 months. I was a bit nervous, but I practiced a lot for today so I expected that I would get some good results.
- You avoided the teamkill.
I didn’t not want to do a teamkill. But if I had to, I wanted to see him in the winners round. The match would have been tough because we know each other’s styles so well.
- As you picked Keen, you said that you will not be overtaken by these newcomers.
I looked deeply into this build. And since this happens to be summer break for me, I had a lot of time for practice. I verified its effectiveness. And even if my opponent wasn’t Keen, I would have still used it. I bet he was caught off guard. I am still doing even more research into more builds.
- You showed off a unique reaper strategy.
I am always open to learn new things. And I faced a similar strategy to this when I faced a diamond level player. It wasn’t this refined, but it definitely caught my attention, so I used that kind of build today. I always pay attention to those who are showy.
- You won the Chicken Derby match (oGsNada vs. HongUnPRIME as they are both sponsored by chicken places now…).
I wasn’t that worried. But I am glad I won. I think there are more Mom’s Touch places than the other ones. I was able to draw power from that. Thank you.
- How did you prepare for the winners match?
I practice overall 80% for terrans, and practiced against protoss based on the ladder. I got inspiration for that matchup on the ladder. I focused practice mainly around builds and more against Terrans.
- It seems like the expectations for Nada will get only higher.
I have not yet met the early expectations that people had for me. I hope to show great from by continuing to play. I think when people think I am down; I play even harder to shine. When people say “Nada will lose,” it only makes me work harder to prove those doubters wrong. But on the other hand, if expectations rise, it may make me relax too much so keep on doubting me. Though, I do like listening to praise more than criticisms.
- Are you ambitious for the team league as well?
Yes. I want to win so badly. I don’t think I have pulled my weight on the team yet. Even without MC and Zenio, we will make sure that we can win this week.
- Your goal for this season?
I want to get to the finals this time. I want to get to the next stage.
- You will be facing Byun in the round of 16.
After watching him beat sC then MVP in succession, he left an impression on me. I think he is a great player who is very solid. I saw how much I will need to practice for him. I will make sure to show a great match through solid preparation.
- Recently, there has been a trend of mech terrans.
I know that all the terrans are researching into mech builds, so I have also been figuring out the solution to facing it. I think I am quite capable of finding a solution to mech play so I will prepare enough to beat it.
- Yell0w introduced the Code A players. What do you think about that?
I hope he can get here and start playing soon. (Laugh) It seemed really fun, and I hope he can do that often and maybe find the drive to start playing again. But I guess it will be more important for him to do what his girlfriend tells him to do.
- Any last comments?
I want to thank my team’s TOP, TheStc, Vines, and FOX’s SocceR and Lyn for helping me practice. Especially TOP who helped me a lot. Thanks to all of them.

▼ 16강 진출 소감은?
- 경기를 치른 지 한 달도 안 된 것 같은데, 체감 상 두 달 정도 쉰 것 같다. 긴장은 됐지만, 열심히 준비했기 때문에 좋은 결과가 나오지 않았나 생각한다.
▼ 다행히 팀킬은 피했는데?
- 팀킬은 하고 싶지 않았다. 그래도 이왕이면 승자조에서 만나고 싶었는데, 영진이가 올라왔다면 서로 스타일을 잘 알아서 껄끄러웠을 것이다.
▼ 황규석을 지목하며 세대교체에 뒤처지지 않겠다고 선언했었는데?
- 필살기 성으로 빌드를 연구해왔다. 마침 방학을 해서 연습 시간도 많았다. 충분히 검증했고, 황규석 선수가 아니더라도 사용했을 것이다. 황규석 선수가 많이 당황했을 것이다. 더 많은 것들은 연구 중이다.
▼ 독특한 사신 전략을 선보였는데?
- 어디서나 배우려고 한다. 전에 이런 전략을 다이아 정도 수준의 게이머에게 당했다. 이렇게 체계적이진 않았지만, 영감을 얻기에 충분했고 그 게이머의 빌드를 응용했다. 자랑하시는 글도 똑똑히 봤다.
▼ 치킨 더비에서 승리를 거뒀는데?
- 신경을 많이 쓰진 않았다. 이겨서 정말 다행이다. 맘스터치가 지점이 더 많은 걸로 알고 있다. 그 힘을 받은 것 같다. 감사드린다.
▼ 승자전은 어떻게 준비했나?
- 테란전으로 80% 준비했고, 프로토스전은 래더 위주로 준비했다. 래더에서도 많은 영감을 얻었다. 적당히 빌드 위주로 준비했고, 테란전을 굉장히 많이 준비했었다.
▼ 이윤열에 대한 기대치가 높아지고 있는 것 같은데?
- 초반엔 기대치에 못 미쳤다. 계속해서 좋은 모습 보여드려야 할 것 같다. 남들이 나를 인정하지 않을 때 더 빛을 내려고 노력한다. ‘이윤열이 질 것’이라는 예상이 많을 때 가능하다는 것을 보여주기 위해 더 힘을 내는 것 같다. 반대로 기대치가 높아지면 연습을 적게 할 수도 있기 때문에 많이 채찍질 해주셨으면 좋겠다. 그래도 악플보단 선플이 좋다.
▼ 팀리그 욕심도 날 것 같은데?
- 굉장히 욕심이 많다. 아직 제 몫을 못한 것 같다. 이번에 민철이와 정민이가 없어도 이길 수 있도록 하겠다.
▼ 이번 시즌 목표는?
- 목표는 결승전에 진출하는 것이다. 한 단계 더 오르고 싶다.
▼ 16강 상대가 변현우인데?
- 김승철과 정종현을 연달아 이기는 것 보고 감탄만 연발했다. 잘하는 것 같고 탄탄하다. 어느 정도 연습을 해야 하는지 감각적으로 느꼈다. 충분히 준비해서 멋진 경기 보여드리겠다.
▼ 최근 메카닉 테란이 대세인데?
- 모든 테란 선수들이 메카닉을 구사할 줄 알고, 해법 제시하기도 한다. 메카닉에 대한 해법은 실력으로 커버가 가능해서 충분히 준비해 어떤 체제로도 승리할 수 있도록 하겠다.
▼ 코드A 경기에서 홍진호가 선수 소개를 했다. 어떤 기분이 들었나?
- 와서 빨리 경기나 했으면 좋겠다. (웃음) 재밌었고, 진호 형도 자주 출연해 선수에 대한 열정이 다시 생겼으면 좋겠다. 그래도 여자 연예인이 호명하는 게 더 좋을 것 같다.
▼ 마지막으로 하고 싶은 말은?
- 우리 팀의 김정훈, 최연식, 이상헌 선수, 그리고 FOX의 윤덕만, 박준 선수가 연습을 도와줬다. 특히 정훈이는 정말 많이 도와줬다. 고맙단 말을 전하고 싶다.

HongUn‘I am in deep thought.’

- You made it to the round of 16, how do you feel?
I hardly practiced. I didn’t feel any nerves during group nominations, and I could not find the fire to get excited for these games. I came out today after playing Clide about 10 times.
- If that is true, what is the reason for that?
To be honest, my wrists don’t feel so well. I felt like “should I be playing if I am hurting?” And it might be because I am an only child, but my parents would not look favorably at that.
- So are you still in thought?
Yes. During the team league match against TSL, I got a t-shirt from one of the fans. I was really moved by that. And through Clide’s request, I was able to practice for a short while. Right now I am in a sensitive and pensive mood.
- So you are saying without that fan’s present, you may not have practiced at all?
It is true that fan’s present meant a lot to me. I heard that he even sought me out coming all the way out to the team house. I have not gotten a chance to say thanks again to them face to face, but I will take this opportunity to say thanks.
- But don’t you want to play harder after getting to the round of 16?
Of course it feels great to advance further. It is because it makes my fans happy which in turn makes me happy.
- If your wrists feel bad, everything must be more difficult. Shouldn’t you go to the hospital like sc1’s Flash?
Well, it is not as big of a news because I haven’t had a career like him… (laugh) And I feel like I may not want to keep on playing games if I have to go through surgery. And even if I do get treatment, there is a chance that it may not heal well.
- That means you must be doing a lot of image training.
It was like that for my first match today.
- Your round of 16 opponent will be Zenio. Will it be difficult to use your usual blink micro against him (because of your condition)?
Ah.. yes, I cannot use blink micro now. Now, you can call me infirmed rather than someone who uses blink (**he made a play on words joke in Korean here). Also, objectively you cannot say that protoss is stronger against zerg now because of the recently great play by zerg players against protoss opponents.
- Any last comments?
I want to thank Sabasaba chicken for their sponsorship. I also want to thank Clide for helping me practice. And although I didn’t practice with him, I also want to thank aLive for telling me “Fighting” before this match. Check and Fruitdealer whom I have been friends with since the beta have not been having great results recently, but I bet we will soon see great form from them. They say that effort does not betray results, so I hope they can endure it and keep on playing.

▼ 16강 진출 했다. 기분이 어떤가?
- 연습을 거의 하지 않았다. (조 편성이)위협도 되지 않았고, 게임에 흥미를 잃었었다. 한규종하고만 10판 정도하고 경기에 출전했다.
▼ 그 말이 사실이라면, 이유가 있었나.
- 사실 팔목이 좋지 않아졌다. 게임을 하는데 ‘아프면서까지 해야 하나’ 라는 회의감이 들었다. 외동이라 그런지 부모님이 안쓰럽게 보시더라.
▼ 그럼 지금도 고민 중인가?
- 그렇다. TSL과 팀리그를 할 때 어떤 팬분들이 직접 그린 티셔츠를 주셨다. 그것을 받고 정말 큰 감동을 받았었다. 그리고 한규종 선수의 기운을 받고자 잠깐 연습 했었다. 조금 민감하고 복잡한 기분이다.
▼ 팬 선물이 아니었다면 연습도 하지 않았을 것 같은데.
- 그 선물이 큰 영향을 준 것은 사실이다. 그 분이 숙소까지 찾아와서 전달하고 가셨다고 들었다. 얼굴도 뵙지 못했는데 이 자리를 빌어 감사하단 말을 전하고 싶다.
▼ 그래도 16강에 올라온 이상 무기력하게 끝내고 싶진 않을 것 같다.
- 높이 올라가면 당연히 좋다. 그럴수록 주변에서 응원해주시는 분들이 기뻐해주시고 나도 기쁘니 말이다.
▼ 손목이 좋지 않은 상태면 여러모로 부담이 될 것 같다. 최근 스타1의 이영호도 그런데 병원치료도 해야 하지 않나.
- 그 정도의 커리어를 가지고 있진 않기 때문에..(웃음) 그리고 치료받으면 (게임을) 하고 싶지 않아진다. 아무래도 치료받게 되면 나른해지고 병행하게 되면 잘 낫지도 않고 악화될 것 같아서다.
▼ 그렇다면 이미지 트레이닝을 주로 할 것 같다.
- 오늘 첫 경기가 그랬다.
▼ 16강전 상대가 최정민인데, 점멸 컨트롤이 힘들지 않을까.
- 아.. 이제 점멸 컨트롤이 안 된다. 이젠 점멸이 아니라 전멸자다. 객관적으로 봐도 ‘프로토스가 우위다’ 라고 할 수 없다. 요즘에는 저그 유저분들이 잘하신다고 생각한다.
▼ 끝으로 하고 싶은 말?
- 사바사바치킨에게 감사 드린다. 연습 도와준 한규종 정말 고맙다. 그리고 연습은 안 해줬지만 경기 직전 ‘파이팅’ 해준 한이석 선수에게 고맙다. 베타 시절 때부터 친분이 있었던 저그 형들, 형주형과 원기형 최근 부진하지만 좋은 모습 볼 수 있을거라 생각한다. 노력은 결과를 배신하지 않는다고 하니 조금만 더 참고 했으면 좋겠다.
