Whenever I hear news on Destiny it always seems he's taking a turn for the worst. Perhaps something needs to change destiny. Best of luck to both parties, I wish you a happy future.
I've had to face him twice on the ladder. He isn't the cheery haha let's have fun type of guy. Once I was complementing him and he made me feel like shit, and the next after he rage quit he after game chatted me making personal attacks. This was many months ago, though
it sounds more like they only picked him up to grab the others. this dude was a goner from the getgo. another case of a low-level player getting the chance so many other players could only dream of and not being able to hack it. it has nothing to do with being part of a 'big organization' and everything to do with being part of a GOOD organization that requires you to um.... be a GOOD player. the fact that it happened so fast only underscores how low-level of a player he is. not even worth trying
Although Steven himself has given responses himself I'd still like to speak my mind regarding my perception of Steven. I do think it's relevant to some degree considering how he acts and, by extension, present himself to the community is the underlying "issue".
I have spent countless hours on his stream. What keeps me coming back is, besides his gameplay, his intellect.
He is bad mannered at times but I believe it is in good fun. Rarely have I felt that he actually got mad or even irritated about losing a game, even if the opponent says something mingy. I like his rather loose take on the games as individual games which in contrast to his take on the game in general is, for me, spirit hightening and, I don't know. It's a nice thing. "Lose the battle win the war" kind of mentality. At least that's what I feel. I can be wrong however, it's subjective.
Further elaborating I believe this could be a product of him being highly logical. I don't get the feeling he is "anti-establishment", an anarchist or any kind of synonym. He does act in a special way, truly. Taking his outspoken values into account however I don't think anything he does is not based on logic. He is definitely consistent with how he acts and it's easy to follow his train of thought when he explains any of his actions, theorycrafts or similar simply because it's seemingly flawless.
Steven is most definitely very intelligent. I don't think anyone who has spent any number of hours will tell you differently. His theorycrafting is very strong. His arguments are rock solid. His actions are justifiable. He is truly a cerebral. Which brings me to my actual point if it has been unclear so far: Steven has tremendous potential. His will to grow and improve is impressive. If he sticks at it he will undoubtedly be one of the greats.
How does this relate back to the coL-situaion? It doesn't necessarily. But it does present my view on his future possibilities. If the two sides reached an agreement where a departion was for the best I am sure that was indeed for the best.
Okay! I'm sorry for any linguistic or grammatical errors or if anything is unclear !
Well, who didn't see this coming? Steven doesn't care about representing e-sports. Why would a team that cares about their image ever think he'd censor himself and conform to their values?
One day, I got a message pretty much saying "hey, that contract is due tonight, you gotta sign it today". I pretty much had half a day to decide whether or not to sign, and it seemed like if I didn't sign, the deal would fall through for the rest of the team. I didn't want to mess up everyone's opportunities to move on with their career just because I felt uncomfortable, and there was nothing -too- objectionable in the contract, so I signed it.
I've got to call complete bullshit on this point. It's clear from your demeanor and general lack of understanding of "the way things work" that you are fairly uneducated or, at the very least, unexposed to the realities that make it impossible to have your cake and eat it too. There's no way in hell you didn't have access to the contract until the due date... you just fucked it off and you're being transparent as hell right now. I mean seriously, you're going to take a high and mighty stance about doing things your own way and not caring about being a part of an organization or adhering to social norms of general decency, but then you turn around and you aren't even being candid in your explanation.
Oh, and I'm TOTALLY sure you actually read the contract (100% sarcasm)
I don't expect this to be well-received... don't care either really as I know the type of people that consider themselves your fans, but even the immature and unempathetic high school kids that watch you stream after school deserve you at least saying that YOU fucked up rather than a lame (made up) excuse that you couldn't view the contract until the due date.
How can someone with so many posts be so absolutely fucking batshit retarded?
From now on, instead of people wasting their time fact-checking, maybe you should just write up every single post that goes on the front page since you have all of the inside facts.
I have never in my life been told that I sound "uneducated" by any person I've ever had a serious conversation with, ever. You, on the other hand, look like a total fucking fool. Your post is a combination of baseless assumptions, fueled with an incredible bias against me, with absolutely no factual basis at all.
""Unexposed to reality"? I own a house, I have a child, I've worked full time jobs and gone to school at the same time, I've been through quite a bit of ridiculous shit that most people haven't. I'm sorry, what "reality" is it that I have yet to be exposed to?
We had access to the contract for quite a while, but it was incredibly unclear whether or not ROOT would actually be absorbed into complexity for quite some time. By the time I found out, I had less than a day to give some actual thought into the long-term implications of the contract.
I'm being incredibly candid in my explanations. There is very rarely a good reason to break a contract; this was not one of those times, I should have never signed it initially. I'm just explaining the "why", not trying to justify my actions.
I don't know who you are, or what you do, but I give very careful consideration to everything I do online, so fuck off.
Just a simple question since you are being transparent with this.
What aspect of the contract was disagreeable? Because the post by Complexity Gaming states that they found some of your language and opinions to be contrary to the direction of their organization and that was the breaking point; yet you claim that you arrived at a decision that was of your own accord. Were the language and polarizing opinions a mutual separating point? Because as it sounds now both sides claim to hold the initiative in making the decision, which is a bit confusing to me.

He recently got into grandmasters, so skillwise he's improving.
Well IdrA doesn't spew racist, sexist, or homophobic insults . . . he just says things to individual people like calling them fucking skilless newbies or doesn't gg.
Seems like you have no idea what you're talking about.
It seems you don't know what you are talking about.
He has extremely toned down since joining EG and I don't think he has said anything really bad since the start of 2011.
Sure sure brah. Note that's EGIdrA.
I would recommend you stop using the word brah and read something before you respond to it.
"toned down" does not mean he has stopped completely idra will always be that way
"Anything really bad since start of 2011" , that game is from november 2010.
"He has extremely toned down since joining EG"
Continues using "faggot" despite being on EG
Apparently calling someone "faggot" is being toned down
It's quite obvious you just don't like Idra. So I'll just put it this way; The reason why Idra can get away with that is because he posts great tournament results. Destiny does not. Idra brings in lots of attention to EG, whether it's good or not, more people will end up liking Idra because he's a good player, which in turn is great for his team. If Destiny starts winning tournaments and people see him as a good player, then teams will look to grab him even with the mouth he has. Until then, this is what happens.
What??? I said nothing about "Idra getting away with it". I was just pointing out that Idra uses the word "faggot", same as Destiny.
Yes, and I was pointing out that the reason why this is not a problem for EG is because Idra brings them a constant stream of fans, whereas Destiny.... well we all know the facts, so you fill in the blank. Don't take the defensive while reading this post, and you might actually get the point of it this time.
Did I say Destiny was causing a problem for Root/coL? Not sure what you think I'm wrong about lol.
I typed the last sentence of my last post for a reason, and yet you still don't understand the posts. I won't waste my time anymore. Useless. The posts have nothing to do with you, it's about the effects of the players and their actions for whatever team they may be on.

I love how people shit on destiny going out from open bracket 1st round without even looking up that he faced a top 60 GM in ZvZ, doesn't get more of a shitty draw than that...

Didn't Idra get banned from TL for 90 days? What was that for again?
What was that team that picked up HDStarcraft?
Destiny qualified for IPL2... I'd say that is pretty impressive.
As offtopic as this thread is getting, I will answer those questions, but I am not sure what point related to Destiny you're making with this.
1) IdrA initially got banned for 2 days (iirc he called CrunCher a 'waste of life') then this got extended to 90 days after he posted about his TL ban and encouraged his fans through Twitter to spam Chill with PMs on TeamLiquid to express their (probably negative) opinions of the decision to ban IdrA from TL. Needless to say, that was a bad move on IdrA's part because he effectively angered a hornet's nest, figuratively speaking
2) HDStarcraft got picked up by a team? This is news to me. I checked both Liquipedia and did several google searches and saw nothing about it. However, a few popular casters/players have been picked up by teams before i.e. Vile picking up PsyStarcraft and Sixjax picking up Artosis.
3) Yes, Destiny did qualify for IPL Season 2, proving that he can indeed compete with the best players on NA.
In my opinion, I feel bad for Destiny. The one big built-from-the-ground team where I felt he belonged had been assimilated into a much larger multi-game e-sports clan. It's kinda like when you're in a really nice guild on WoW and they merge with a much larger guild to create something huge, but probably with different values which some players may disagree with.
Not saying that I'm not going to continue ROOTing for CompLexity, because I didn't think the merger was necessarily bad plus I like some of their players (i.e. CrunCher, CatZ, Drewbie etc.) However, I hope another team does sign Destiny, maybe Sixjax, Vile, Reign, FXOpen or even Team Dignitas

Let it be.
But now that the topic of idra has come up, I can't help but chip in, telling me to kill myself multiple times, isn't exactly "toning it down".
Col and destiny just didn't work out. That's all it is...let it be....
Honestly, this is all that really needs to be said, especially coming from a team member. I think Col's post made things sound a little bit hostile between the two parties, but between Destiny's and Minigun's accounts, clearly the amount of bad blood (if any) has been blown out of proportion.

That is the part of the contract that he wasn't comfortable signing. Basically he signed a contract that he wouldn't normally because his signature affected his teammates/friends also because he didn't think through it enough. Once he signed it, he began to read over it more closely and noticed a lot more things he wasn't comfortable with (This includes toning himself down). He then talked to CatZ and jlake (the found of coL) and they came upon this decision which was mutual.
Also yes, HD got picked up by LG gaming, which later disbanded.

As I said previously, this is a fitting end for both parties.
I'm also black, and you do more to disparage our race with your racially charged comments than I've ever heard this kid destiny do.. While I've never heard Destiny bring race into the equation (and yes, I've heard the language on the stream), you've just injected it in for no apparent reason. I suggest you educate yourself a bit more on context as getting offended at his does a great disservice to those of us who've had the words used against them in a much more harmful manner. LOL? he faced Capoch (ZvP) who intelligently went for clever all-ins in 2 of the 3 games. Please don't spread lies like you are right now. He went ahead and BM'ed Capoch but that's another story.
