Greetings TL! First post!
I would like to share a helpful and very simple tweak with everyone that let's you use the control group hotkeys to make the select/locate functionality of the control group hotkey possible to use when watching a replay. When I discovered this, I thought it would have been mentioned on here for sure but I was unable to find anything about it.
*Note that this will slightly vary based on how your hotkeys are setup so I will explain it from the default setup, but it can be done with any.
Everyone probably knows that in a replay, if you want to see all the units in a given control group, you can click on the little icon for it, but many players have disabled the ability to click these in the settings or hidden them altogether. However, there is a way to use the actual hotkeys to select them!
By default control group hotkeys are 1-0 and the "observe player" are 1-8 & ctrl-1-8 for players 9-16. When you press one of the 1-8 keys in a replay it will only observe the chosen player. However, the control group keys are not disabled, they are just being overridden by the observe player hotkey. You can see this work without even changing anything by using the 9 and 0 control group keys in a replay because nothign is overriding them (of course there needs to be something in them, with a unit of that player selected for it to work.)
To enable all of the control group keys to work, the solution is as simple as rebinding the hotkey to observe players 1-8. I changed them to F1-F8 (these are rebound in Options > Hotkeys > Global > Observer). Now all of the control group hotkeys work for all groups as an observer!
Here's a picture of the new bindings in the hotkey options:

Note that I left the players 9-16 unbound as I don't really feel a need for them.
Enjoy!

Whoa, if this is really as simple as you say, this could be quite useful. Thanks!

Tried it and worked as you said :D Thank you for the info!

I think u can press alt+# to select players hotkey

I've been wondering why I couldn't use them in replays since the game came out I'm so glad someone looked deeper into this to find the solution to this problem, thank you very much Jest, awesome first post! :D

Is it possible to observe a players' camera bounds (i.e. by default, F5-F8)?

Yep, you can just use Alt+# or Shift+# to select the hotkeys.

I didn't know about those, but they do work! I personally prefer rebinding it so I don't have to use a key combination to call the control group - I would rather use a single key. Another reason I think it would be better to rebind it would be so that you don't confuse your muscle memory about how to select a control group. This is probably more important for lower level players like me who are trying to develop their mechanics.

I thought about it before posting this but I didn't feel like recalling those would be nearly as important.. at least for me, but I made a game just to test this and it seems like these cannot be recalled in a replay - at least using the technique I used for the control groups. Perhaps there's an alternate hidden key combination like ChineseWife or leviathan mentioned that would work.
Thanks for the feedback!

Holy shit, what a find! Thanks! This actually really helps a lot!

I'm glad to learn about all of this since I disable the hotkey buttons from working for when I'm playing, but I like to see them sometimes in the replay. Thanks for the OP and subsequent posts.

Good find, good post. I'll change my hotkeys to exactly as is shown in the screenshot I think when I get home

Appreciated~_~ Just set players to the numpad instead.

I just realized that this won't work when watching replays from non-current versions of SC2. Because you can only watch them after logging out of battle.net, custom hotkey profiles aren't available. In these cases, the only way to do it would be to use the SHIFT or ALT+1-0 key combos.

Wow I did not know that, the alt+#, nice!
