Aaaahhhh! :D :D :D

Okay, sorry, had to get that out. This is so awesome! Great write up and there weren't any answers from Blizzard that bugged me. I've really started to trust the direction they're taking. I'm sad about the kind of shutdown on the LAN question, but hopefully that will come back eventually.

I can't wait for this game to come out, or at least the beta to start

Ah so it will require ownership of WoL... Not a standalone thing then...

The ice tileset looks really like WoW. Is Blizzard only capable of a single art style these days?

so, they may remove certain units or revise them. I wonder if making overlords being able to detect might be a thing they are doing. That part of the QA was the most interesting. As they talked about "failed" units like the overseer. What units do you think blizzard considered failures?

Probably the ones that have seen little use of their intended mechanics. I'd imagine that the raven falls under that catagory to a lesser extent. You don't really see people getting ravens as a part of their grand scheme, outside of detection requirements. There are some PDD timings, kinda like there was this contaminate timing a while back, but they're not used that often.

I kinda get that, They were intending for the raven to be support, but it never became anything more than a detection mule, and every once in a while it is used for an all in timing attack. Its abilities, while cool, were never extremely useful, interesting, or scalable(PDD). The overseer is sort of a failed unit just because as the blizzard guy said, its nothing but scout/detection and its abilities are largely useless.

I'm not sure if other units qualify, but we will see what happens with that.

Well, how long did it take until the devourer was really used?
Or until Irradiate became normal play?
Or until Queens became the bane of meching terrans?

The overseer has some very strong abilities imho (possibility do indefinitly block upgrades or production), it's just that the players are still not comfortable enough with the staple units to make use of the more indirectly working units.

Can't wait for the multiplayer details.
Starcraft 2 is funny, everybody picks the race, which he considers to be the weakest. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Meh, a slow unit with super long range, only AtA option, if you want to beat them you build more of them..
I would prefer them if they were ground units with a weaker aerial mode(they could even keep the range to act as a support unit to a new terran air unit or two), than air units with a very weak ground mode.

Queens (even today) arnt really used. Against mech what you want to do as zerg is just mass out as many hatcheries and hydralisks so u can and win by sheer numbers and by flanking tank lines. I have yet to see a game in which queens assisted in any meaningful way against a meching terran.

as for irradiate, well jesus thats really been around for.. well ever really. Even in the early days of starcraft it was used.

As for devourer, well id still say its not really used even now. Only in of course rare situations.

Story/lore wise, it's a little bit troubling that the Zerg now have internal politics since it just makes them alien people instead of The Swarm, and I swear to god those two missions are pulled out of WC3. Next missions Mal'Ganis is going to appear and trick Kerrigan into releasing a big dumb sword from some ice.

The Q&A was good, though.

Kerrigan has been playing internal zerg politics from the start, picking off cerebrates, the new overmind etc..

She did it, because she was part human, but the other cerebrates didn't position themselves or beg for their lives. They acted out of instinct.

I must be one of the few people severely disappointed by the reveal. I may be a little nit-picky, but com on. Half of the questions Blizz responded with "we dont know, we dont have a clue". There was no epic CGI trailer. Thanks. No multiplayer information of any kind. Kerrigan looks like crap. Kerrigan doesnt remember anything about her old self and is now all mellow. Wtf i want her burning and pillaging entire planets for no good reason. Thats the Queen of Blades i remember. And absolutely no info on potential new multiplayer units even though they said they have about the same amount now as BW? the hell with you blizzard!

BTW thx TL

The following are my thoughts and reactions to what I feel were the best parts of the interview questions and answers. Enjoy my on the fly as I read commentary

Q: Are there any plans to bring back the defiler or the devourer to the campaign yet?

A: I could see the defiler coming back, as a cool unit in single player. I'm not sure if the devourer is a cool enough unit to see in single player, an air to air specialist unit by nature would have a tough time filling a role, however it could happen if it makes sense.

So is this a reference to the state of the corrupter? Or perhaps a scourge reference? Which one makes more sense 0_o

As far as learning through the multiplayer, we learned that not everything works exactly as planned - the different roles for the units didn't work as well as we had planned. We planned to have the immortal be more of a meat shield, and have the hardened shield be one of the core mechanics; however, the burst damage ended up being the more important part of the unit.

250/100 for a tech building meat shield for an army from gateways that has little DPS. Forgive me for laughing at that but that really is funny if you play Protoss at all lol In the campaign it was a meatshield during the one mission you had it but in real play its one of the only DPS dealers against armour Protoss really has.

We're going to add some new multiplayer units, and take out some multiplayer units and we're going to try to make it really great, but a ton of the work is going to go into single player.

This is the most exciting line I have read so far and it should be the most exciting line for all TLers.

- Fear: Campaign can be beaten with mouse I hope that means easy/normal since I dont see how that will be the case on brutal especially with larva mechanic (unless injection isn't part of the campaign just like chronoboost wasn't part of the campaign in WoL)

HOLY CRAP NVM Reading onward

Q: Is there going to be a beta?

A: Yes

Q: Is it going to be a campaign beta, or a multiplayer beta?

A: Just multiplayer.

Q: How long do you think it will be?

A: It should be about 3-5 months; if I had to guess it's going to be more on the smaller side.

WOO! BETA!!

Just looking at the features that we've managed to deliver through battle.net 2.0 you can see that it's still an evolving product that's not done yet, and we're still working on it.

Perhaps we will finally see multi-person viewing of replays in lobbies? I sure hope so I really do and they have to be listening to us and the casting community for this.

For example, the Overseer is not a cool unit, it's basically a glorfied scout at this point. We're looking at either taking out or replacing these units that aren't as cool. The other thing that we need to watch out is how these units interact in combination.

Whoever thought of the question leading to this answer above thank you so so much its an amazing answer with cool insight (the whole thing, this snippet was the best)

No it is an AtA with GtG too. I agree tank/rine/viking sucks hard in TvT, but they do have potential for some fun play, just havn't seen enough of it.
That cannot be said about colossus and corruptor though.

You can't block upgrades unless your opponent is a vegetable. Seriously. I'd doubt the ability for someone to even build an engineering bay at all, if they can't figure out how to stop contaminate spam. Overseers are, as harsh as it sounds, garbage. Ravens, less so, but still; I wouldn't be suprised if AT and HSM got replaced, if not the unit itself. They're extremely niche and entirely retarded.
