I talked to MLG Lee at the CES Invitational and he basically said they are going to have it right. I could see how bothered he was from Dallas. They won't make the same mistakes again. Very important to learn is that what people say does not really matter, people can say anything they want (and they tend to especially if currency is involved) What really matters are the actions, if MLG can knock it off the ballpark and deliver a great show they can win some goodwill back from viewers. You talked to Lee? Well JP and the rest of the SOTG crew talked to Sundance a few SOTG back and he was talking about how MLG Dallas was going to be the best show ever and how important SC2 is to them. I dont like speaking for others but in this case i think i can speak for everyone who has a bad taste in their mouth after Dallas, we want MLG to succeed, this isent some hobby that we like to hate on MLG and trash them. I know its common in the community to hate on things and just be a negative little nancy, but when it comes to tournaments we them to be good, nobody gains pleasure by seeing MLG or anyone fail (we only gain pleasure seeing Gracken lose but that is a different topic ![]()

Before Dallas, they were already promising to improve everything that went wrong last time, but it was even worse. But even when you pull those technical problems out, Dallas just wasn't a good event. Horrible SetUp (those "gaming areas" and the "stage" looked like this took place on a childrens birthday party) hour long pauses, huge amount of commercials, and casters simply sitting there, talking for over 30 minutes, just to announce that "the last epic match ended and IdrA won!" but showing absolutley nothing. There was no winner ceremony at all, just a random guy asking Naniwa 1-2 Questions (which you couldn't understand) and giving him his trophy. Honestly, EVERY other big tournament to date did a better job at EVERYTHING MLG did. And for the most of them you didn't even have to pay money to watch them in a pretty good quality. So, thumbs down for MLG. I hope I'm wrong this time and they really will improve on all this points.

I think this is fair considering the way Dallas was exectuted, and im not just talking about the technical difficulties, that can happen to anyone. Im talking about 30-40 mins downtime between games, casters being on breaks while some of the biggest games in the tournament are being played and not shown, the casters not seeming to know what they are meant to be doing and when, half the time the casters are on they were sitting chatting or just looking confused. All in all it was a bit of a mess, then you compare it to DH Invitational, free HD, little downtime, good casters who know what games will be shown when, a great host who does entertaining interviews etc when there is downtime, whereas at MLG we were watching casters sit. Hopefully a lot of lessons will have been learnt, and the stream will be well worth it, but i want to see evidence of that before i have to put up money.

If MLG is still using the Octoshape, though, I'm probably going to downgrade to the low quality stream and also never buy an HD pass again. As much as I'd like to provide some level of support for what MLG is doing, the last two events have had major issues ( which I can forgive if they make improvements ), but I can't forgive the use of Octoshape. Octoshape will instantly start to use up to 5mbps downstream plus another 1.5 mbps upstream plus whatever I need to actually watch the stream. This application likes to saturate my entire network on its own. Nothing else I've ever watched, including 1080p NASL broadcasts, has come even close to the retarded amount of throughput that Octoshape takes because I'm on a good net connection. I'm not going to download applications like NetLimiter so I can actually use my own network while watching MLG anymore. Seriously, Octoshape is like the worst thing to ever appear on the scene and venues using it makes me rage.

With that awesome exchange program, if they manage to run everything smoothly, they will be my 2nd favorite starcraft 2 league after the GSL.
