He left code S to play in the western scene, so no. He also said he wouldn't on SOTG.

It seems a lot of the argument on SOTG degenerated into a Korean vs Foreigner advantage discussion where the metric used was based on the amount of money obtainable in x period of time. Much of this was focused on Code A and how there's hardly and money in that pool. While that may be true, code S is extremely rewarding. In fact you get $1400 just for getting into ro32 which is basically just winning 2 games. This is equivalent to 4th place prize money at MLG. By getting into the semifinals you get $4800 which almost matches the 1st place prize money of MLG at $5000. If you're really confident/good you even have a shot at 1st place of $46 000 which is like getting 1st place MLG 9 times. Basically if we consider an aggregate sum of the potential rewards for code A and code S and compare it to MLG assuming equal skill levels among all players, I think it should come out to be fairly even. Although I don't have any math to back this up, you can think of it as Code S >> MLG > Code A but u only get 1/4 spot for code S.

You get all expenses paid trip for an entire month. Again Incontrol brushes it off saying yeah they give you housing but the rest you are on your own. No it's not like that. In fact if you were ever interested in going to Korea, you can basically think of it as vacation for a month + starcraft. Of course if you have specific commitments like school or family this will be difficult. For some players going to Korea for a month and playing in Code A would be worth it, but for others, even playing in Code S won't be worth it. Yes, GOM pays for everything (which is great, no doubt about that), but there is a huge opportunity cost. A lot of players in the foreign scene play in a ton of tournaments and team leagues. Being in Korea really hampers that. Then guys like iNcontroL and Idra cast and have shows they do. Being in Korea hampers that. Then a lot of pro's coach and make good money off that and being in Korea hampers that too. Not to mention they are leaving everything in their personal lives for a whole month, such as Tyler would need to leave his wife. Now if GSL would have their super tournament (and yes I know they are qualifying for the normal GSL season, just making a suggestion) be like a weekend or week long type tournament where the MLG qualifiers could come over and participate in, then it would be a much more fair exchange and much more attractive to foreign players.

I feel it was an equal trade and that it may be even a little more beneficial for the foreigners. Some may pass on the opportunity, that's fine, but some will take it as a once in life time opportunity. I can tell you that the highest placed foreigner gets the best deal of all. You know how many phases, qualifiers, and time that person skipped to be placed into code S? As for the koreans being placed in championship bracket, they essentially only skipped the open bracket which they should easily be able to make out of it (1-2 day worth of time). As for the foreigners placed in code A after the MLG, the experience is the most important. Your expenses are being paid for to live in Korea and play with the best and be on camera. You will get so much exposure, especially when GSL is being broad-casted in China soon. Really the prize from a normal MLG isn't all that, it's more for the competition and setting up for the big MLG tournament. Just like how code A gives little reward but sets up for being in code S tournament. MLG is getting the slightly better end of this deal I think because they lost a lot of creditability from MLG Dallas, Their event has now sparked more interest and now will get more viewers back, like me ![]() If the top foreigners pass the deal to go to Korea then it will be great for a more eager player behind them to make use of the opportunity; the experience and the practice. If the top foreign placers that pass say it's not fair, you have to remember that the top placers in GSL also didn't get rewarded; it's bomber, Losira, moon, and mma who are far from the top placers of GSL.

NASL? IPL? Those are both played online, so what's the problem there? Lag? Staying up late in the morning to fit the schedule? The same thing Koreans have been dealing with (without complaining I might add) this whole time? MLG? GSL is making schedule changes for all the MLG's to allow people to compete in both. Dreamhack? Jinro, Huk, MC and other Koreans easily are able to go, so what's preventing the foreigners in Korea from going? So what are foreigners exactly missing out on by going to Korea? Aside from family or other obligations I really don't see why people wouldn't be jumping at the idea like Naniwa is.

As for the foreigners vs. Koreans thing, I don't know -- there are some scary-good Korean players, but there are some damn good foreigners too, and I don't think there's any good reason why you shouldn't have to compete against the best to win tournaments. If you think you can't beat them, then you just have to train harder.

But with the announcement of big money foreign tournaments, they cancelled their move indefinitely. It inst off the table for in the future if Korea explodes afaik

My guess would be the smaller tournaments (the Go4SC2s and ZOTAC cups and stuff).. but then I realized players like Idra hardly ever play those competitions anyway. I think the biggest issue is lag I guess. Perhaps also because it's cheaper to fly from US to Europe (and vice versa) than from Korea to Europe/US. You really do have a point though, never really thought about it that way. On May 15 2011 21:09 Metaphysic wrote: I'm a bit unclear. My point is... if you are confident with your skill, why not try GSL? of course there are bunch of small competitions in US,EU. but look at the Money ranking. http://ehcg.djgamblore.com/ #1 - #8 are all koreans who plays on GSL and they earned so much money than foreigners. srsly if they are good enough there's no reason to refuse.

Big props to GSL and MLG for working this out. now ESL and DreamHack needs to follow suit and we can truly have a international tournament format looking like the ATP tour of tennis were every tournamnet counts and the best players will be there to represent.
