      Greetings TeamLiquid Community!

Over the past months, the iCCup Map Team has been accumulating almost 20 maps. We feel that having a plethora causes distress among players with the abundance of maps to choose from, as well as complicate map decisions that tournament hosts have to make. Some maps have fallen below standards too.

We are glad present our new and refined map pool, consisting of 4 new maps and 4 returning maps (8 in total). Every map must measure up to expectations in terms of concept, proportions, distances, aesthetics and balance. Right now, we aim to keep the map pool at a maximum of 10 maps; if a better map is made, it will replace the weakest map in the map pool.

In the near future, we will be uploading all maps from an official iCCup account. This way you'll be able to find the 'real' maps (not fake maps) without trouble. It will also make cross publishing much simpler. More info on this soon.

      *Maps are still in the process of being updated on each server.

      New Maps

iCCup Travin - Superouman
Status = Testing

[image loading]

The map features a natural with a unbuildable bridge and the main ramp far away from it. The direct path have two easily defensible chokes cuting three large areas, one Xel'Naga tower gives vision over the entire central area. Expansions are localized on the side paths. Units can be dropped on the highground behind the gold expansion.

iCCup Guardian - Monitor
Status = In good standing

[image loading]

Guardian is a four player map that I made as an improved version of Amazon, an older map of mine. The layout is similar, but features a single-entrance natural, and a close high ground third. A central Xel’Naga Tower sees most of the flat middle, but leaves pathways around the map for flanks.

iCCup Diggity - Neobowman
Status = Testing

[image loading]

Diggity is a port of one of my old Brood War maps. It was made with the intention of having a two entrance natural and still leaving forge FE viable. For those unfamiliar with Brood War, you don’t really need to care about that and just know that the natural is pretty open from both sides, but which side you use depends on the spawn locations. Other than that, it’s a relatively simple map. Again, thanks to Monny for doing the spectacular deco.

iCCup Ithaca - prodiG
Status = Testing

[image loading]

Ithaca is a four-spawn map that executes a wide variety of ideas. Its concept spawned from (2) Odd-Eye, a Brood War map. From there, it evolved into what you see today. The map favors macro oriented and strategic play by using several of Ithaca's features. The natural expansion is easy to wall, similar to Shakuras Plateau. The map has a plethora of open areas and chokes comparatively, and there is always more than one way to move around the map. Finally, the gold expansions are blocked by a relatively unique feature: Destructible Xel'Naga Towers. These towers provide vision over the outer lane of the middle and the bridge into the third expansion and in order to gain access to the expansion, the player must forfeit the vision. Ithaca promises to showcase many different playstyles and strategies and produce very entertaining games overall.

      **Map Threads will come soon.

      Returning Maps

iCCup Testbug - Superouman
Status = In good standing
+ Show Spoiler [Testbug] +
[image loading]

This map features a natural with a medium sized choke. A Xel'Naga Tower is placed inside rocks in front of the natural, destroying the rocks makes the area very wide open. One central Xel'Naga tower gives vision over a big part of the middle. Three gold expands with rich geysers are present on the map, they are very vulnerable to attacks from the highground.

iCCup Neo Enigma - prodiG
Status = In good standing
+ Show Spoiler [Neo Enigma] +
[image loading]

Neo Enigma is a four spawn map and is a complete overhaul of its predecessor, Enigma. Neo Enigma has been quite popular amongst the community, being used in many tournaments including all ESL EU events throughout April, the IMS Startale invitational and more. The natural expansion has an alternate entrance blocked by destructible rocks, opening a new avenue of attack or decreasing the distance between players. The gold expansions are very open and can be harassed via an overlooking cliff and the center of the map has a Xel'Naga Tower behind LOS blockers that provides vision of all action taking place in the center of the map. Neo Enigma promotes very wacky playstyles and is always a treat to watch and play!

iCCup Moletrap - Neobowman
Status = In good standing
+ Show Spoiler [Moletrap] +
[image loading]

Moletrap is a map created with a small map size and a macro map layout. It turned out to be relatively similar to fighting spirit from Brood War since both are such standard layouts for a map. This was made a while ago but since it has such a solid backbone concept, its gameplay will still be completely fine. Special thanks to monitor for adding the beautiful deco which I would never be able to do.

iCCup Starparty V - Superouman
Status = In good standing
+ Show Spoiler [Starparty V] +
[image loading]

This map's specificity is cross position only spawn positions. The layout of the middle is slightly different depending of the start locations. The natural choke is medium-sized. There are gold expands between two mains. Islands are placed in the corners. A Xel'Naga Tower is placed in front of the natural chokes.

      A Letter from prodiG

"The time has come for me to officially announce my "retirement." Over the last few months, I've been gradually losing interest in SC2 mapmaking. As the leader of the iCCup Mapmaking Team, I was taking on a huge role that was very time consuming. From producing the maps themselves to promotion, working with tournament organizers, planning events, judging Map of the Month & more, it was a huge burden on my shoulders. I've been trying to re-prioritize many things in my life and unfortunately I simply don't have the time, nor the passion, to continue doing what I was doing.

This is not to say that I will not be returning. I've invested a lot of time into this and in the future, if I have that fire that I used to once again I won't hesitate to pick up where I left off (HotS maybe?). However at this point, I need to focus on work & school and other aspects of my life. My maps will continue to remain published either with the iCCup tag or with the "mapname - prodiG" suffix. Any commitments that I've made prior to this announcement I will be sure to fill out.

It's been an extreme pleasure to be part of such a fantastic community and I am very happy to have been given the priveledge to contribute my talents towards it. I want to personally thank everyone for everything they've done for me (you'll know who you are) and I look forward to possibly working with you once again in the future. I won't be dropping off the face of the planet, so you may see me around the TL forums and as usual on twitter. GLHF everyone! ;D

NOTE: All iCCup Mapmaking Team related threads will be transferred over to another poster so they can continue to keep the threads up to date. All of my threads will have links to these future threads where applicable."

      Let us know any feedback you have, we greatly appreciate it!

To Tournaments:

We sincerely apologize for the removal of maps if they are being used in your tournament. We suggest substituting with a different map. Sorry!

Still sad about ProdiG he works so hard on the maps and it clearly shows on maps like Ithica sooo gorgeous. Kind of sad that some of the really good maps are gone now like I saw a large number of epic games on Europa. And Sanshorn mists was always a nice fallback maps seen a lot of epic games there as well.

I understand wanting to limit the map pool but why are the maps in development counting towards the total? Because now the map pool is basically 4 maps and Guardian clearly needs some more aesthetic works on top of testing. Feel like you could easily slide a few more maps in there.

The new map pool consists of maps that are the top of iCCup, we want to make sure no maps overlap in gameplay. If you need more to play, they'll be published without the iCCup Tag. Europa did have some epic games. The small paths, low ground natural, and distanced ZvT expo pattern made siege tanks and forcefields hard to deal with in some situations. It was a solid map, but some of the new maps are better. We'll consider adding more maps for sure, but not yet.

Sanshorn Mists is not a great map. Any map in Starcraft II will function, and can have some epic games. The concept of Sanshorn didn't measure up to any of the new maps, and thus was removed. The 4 new maps are completely playable, and better than any of the older 4.

Guardian needs aesthetic work? It's just not very diverse in terms of aesthetics. You'll find in-game that it is quite enveloping.

10 maps total is a lot, so we're looking to limit it to that. While it may be nice for you to play, it makes it hard for players and tournaments to decide. Having a bad map also degrades the integrity of iCCup.

oh wow, all of the sudden 4 brand new maps (:

Thanks for bringing back Desert Oasis textures Superouman, I love them.

Sad to hear about prodiG but the show must go on. Hopefully you will get even more recognition in the future and continue to produce interesting and balanced maps.

Anyone else think iCCup Guardian is a Protoss' wet dream?

Super easy third, it just seems to promote a Cruncher style "sit and wait for 200/200 push" play style.

Isn't the map open to quick air switches between third and second? Third feels very vulnerable to air attacks to me.

Is it just me or does it look really hard 2 defend the natural on diggity?

and moletrap looks very 2 baseish. The only viable third is a gold which doesnt look to easy to defend.

But the other maps look really great, keep up the good work, i always enjoy looking at new maps

I think that ICCup Diggity has some rotational issues that due to the angles ICCup Ithaca and ICCup Guardian do not. I won't claim to know anything about mapmaking (map playing a little bit more), but maybe it could be fixed by shrinking the center highground and cutting the lowground that's right near the main ramp (but on the other side) down a little bit. Would make it harder to siege up there in a TvT. the counter-clockwise player will have an easier time taking bases too though, but that's hard to avoid.

I like the aesthetics and layout of Travin a lot, I'll be looking forward to playing on that map, same with Guardian, nice job monitor!

Diggity is going to be an interesting map. Very unusual games are going to happen, I can see it now.

Whoa! I didn't see that version of Moletrap! The older one, I was like... meh... This one is sweet though!

This is a great idea to have a central thread with the most recent map pool :D (I remember one back then with monthly ones, but this seems more "convenient" and easier to find the new maps).

And hey, that's not the Moletrap I remember! It was vastly different. What happened? =O

Oh okay, cool. Some peoople like the aesthetics, some don't. Superouman mainly did it because it was every Brood War mapper's dream to have multiple tilesets

The aesthetics have been redone, and some minor changes to the natural highground pod were done to fix some ZvP/ZvT issues. Glad you noticed!

Ah, now I can see the old Moletrap :D Thanks for explaining!

I like the new look, the old one had a strange dark/eerie feeling to it, and i've had enough of the lack of bright maps in SC2 xD

Maps always get me so excited. Nice to see new ones like these being churned out.

Thanks for all your awesome work ProdiG.

+ Guardian's mineral lines, and I guess they shapes of the mains and nats, look tough for Zerg offensively. Muta harass and ovie scouting look very limited.

Heh. Starparty looks like the bastard child of LT and (8) Plains of snow (particularly the 2 and 7 expos).

Travin looks terran-favored, at least for mid-game TvZ. Easy to take your own gold and deny your opponents.

I like Guardian and Diggity a lot, although spawn locations could play a large role on Guardian. Ithaca looks really, really wide-open if you ever want to try and push through the middle. Seems like terrans will have to play super-defensive on that map with lots of drops/hellion harass.

Overlord scouting is incredibly easy, there are a bunch of highground pods for it. You can park an overlord outside the natural (to scout gas), an overlord outside the main (also to scout gas), and an overlord above the third. Mutalisk harass on the main is pretty easy coming in from the left side, since its highground. The natural is harder to harass, but the third is quite easy.

This is theorycrafting, but I will respond. Travin has an easy third, but it leaves pathways open. Notice that the gold is also extremely vulnerable to air harass. Zerg will have just as easy of a time taking it.

Spawns do change how Guardian is played, but the map can be split in any positions quite easily. Ithaca has plenty of space for Terran to push in close positions, but cross positions is a bit harder. They can go through the 3rd, over the HY, and to the area outside your natural pretty easily though. We'll have to see in testing.

OP Updated with a new picture of Guardian. Some minor aesthetic updates.

I really like Travin, both aesthetically and gameplay. I'd love to see this in some tournaments.

Guardian I feel is tight outside the natural, and the third is tiny. I like the map, I'd just like it more if it were larger in my honest opinion. I'm just feeling a bit forcefieldophobic. Same stuff that I talked about in game really.

Diggity has a very creative layout, and reminds me of Crevasse a little in how the rocks are placed around the center high ground. I don't know how someone would FE on this map though (other than Zerg). The chokes appear to be ~10 units wide (guess), which is still pretty large, and you have two chokes to worry about. I'd like both chokes smaller, like ~8 units.

Ithaca is pretty and unique. I like how the destructible towers were used on this map. Destiny didn't use them as well because there were only two and I felt that it didn't really work as well. Ithaca uses the towers in that manner much more efficiently. I'm concerned about how easy it is to fast expand on this map. It's because of the orientation of the natural ramp, which leads right out under your main. I feel that Siege Tanks will be able to protect the natural choke from the main. I also love all of the spots for Overlords.
