Alot of people don't mention Finland, quite a surprise for me, Yea sure they would probably not win a Nation tournament but still, some really good players like Elfi, Satiini, Naama...
Naniwa, ThorZaiN, SaSe, DeMusliM, White-RA... Where are my Zerg heroes?.. Stephano <3

I think Sweden have a lot rolling with esport right now, and has an unfair advatange if you would compare to other countries. Sweden was very fast with personal computers at home in the 90s, and were among the first in the world with broadband and later fiber. The long winters also contributes, with many people staying inside.

The only real disadvantage Sweden has to other countries is their population, 9 million. If you compare to Ukraine for example, which many brings up in this thread, which has 45 million. This is not really fair either though. Sweden is richer than Ukraine, and is ranked as one of the highest welfare countries in the world, which obviously does matter. Most people in Sweden has access to a computer and ok internet, while this is not the case in Ukraine and most other highpopulated easteurope countries.

If you look to other sports such as ice-hockey or football, Sweden is way better than they should be with their 9 million. The skill in esport and other sports has more to do with the environment and circumstances the people live in, than with the countries sheer population.

ehh that doesnt even make sense. how come Denmark or Norway isnt as good then?
Gaming is very popular here, not only for hardcore geeks, but for everyone. People are very competitive, that is the biggest reason we have sick top players, not because of long winters. Also when we have summer, people barely sit indoor and practise games. I dont even think Sweden is a rich country anymore either. you also contradict yourself, why would we be good in football with long winters?

as for a POV from Norway, it seems that gaming is more commonly accepted in Sweden then in Norway at leaste, a lot more people play games + you have a rich traditional of top gamers in a lot of games i put swe as be None-korean country

Sweden an Ukraine are tied, with Canada/Germany/USA are a notch under. France/China/Thailand would probably be another notch under

What no one knows is that North Korea is secretly training their own Starcraft pros. These are the actual nuclear weapons they're creating and they plot to take over the world.

First comes storming into proleague with their Flash, Jaedong, Bisu clones and winning the title. Next comes SC2 as they bring their robotic minions in the masses to take over esports, eventually amassing enough prize money to buy out the US government and conquer the planet.

Sweden, Ukraine, Germany, Canada, USA

In that order. Although anyone can beat anyone else at the top, though.

Denmark and Norway has nothing to do with my post, i explained my thoughts on why Sweden is good in Sc2, not why Denmark and Norway isnt good, which i am sure have its own reasons.
better.

yes they do, since u said environment and weather matters for how skilled a nations gamers are , and those those two countries have nearly same environment as sweden, but doesnt have as good SC2 players.

China is in there somewhere, I just don't know where.

But China, just like in DotA and Warcraft 3, will always have the internet problem so only in offline events it'll be possible for them to show what they're made of.

Just a nitbit from the cesspool that is known as 4chan.

But the reality is to my insatisfaction different.

Sweden right now reigns supreme with Naniwa dominating(I hope this won´t last long), and other very good players like Thorzain, Jinro and Morrow.

With just White-Ra and Dimaga, I´d say Ukraine is a strong contender for second.
Only 4 players in Liquipedia though. Kinda few for a national lineup.

USA is a strong contender for second, too. They have a lot of famous players to choose from, BUT fame doesn´t equal skill. Unless you talk about Idra of course. Idra alone makes this team a lot better.

I am not sure about germany. I am german therefore I probably am biased. TLO is proven to be good. HasuObs, Goody, Mondragon and Socke all had moments where they shined. I am not sure if Mondragon will stay active though.

Canada has strong player like Huk and wellknown players like Drewbie, Kiwikaki, TT1. Can´t discount them.

Netherlands have Ret. And Grubby. This is more of an honorary mention simply because Ret is pretty good. He should have chosen a better represented country to be born in.

I won´t talk about every country in length, if I would nobody would read it :D
I think these are about the strongest.

All I know is:
You can´t argue about Sweden.
If nobody hates you, you´re doing something wrong. However someone hating you doesn´t make you right

Sweden probably atm, and thats quite weird seeing how we have less citizens in our entire country then there is in new york (:

And it's Sweden for the same reason that Sweden has a better education system on average than the US, the average person in your country would be upper middle class if not higher in the US while the average US citizen is probably lower middle class if not working class, the Swedish government has much less to deal with than the US and it's people do too. (less taxes in addition to the fact that they're already making more on average)

I don't like speaking about nations, but this is far easier

KR > EU > NA

The absolute top players from each region are not too far off in terms of skill, it's just KR has the most "top" players, EU has a lot, and NA has some.
