Game knowledge can be important, but unless you are someone with as great of game knowledge as Day[9], Artosis, Wolf, etc, don't do it. The worst thing possible for a caster to do is to say something that is blatantly incorrect, because when people pick up on it all they can think about is how wrong what you just said was.

Having a shallow understanding of this game is really all you need as a play by play caster

I love reading TotalBiscuit's posts and then looking at his Mood indicator on the bottom.

Oh trust me, it's accurate. It's hard to get mad when a few idiots think they can drive you from the scene after you just pulled off a successful tournament a couple of days ago and you're going to Dreamhack to cast in a couple of days.

I think TB is a pretty bad caster but he is very good at talking about what our eyeballs already see in a loud voice . So there is always that skill set.
No but seriously TB needs to try to understand the game better. It gets annoying to listen to him babble.

the point they were making is that TB came out and criticized idra's casting niche first, for absolutely no reason, when idra is hailed as pretty much the best purely analytical caster that we have seen in sc2 to date.

This is bullshit. If you actually read the post, as opposed to what you were told to get angry about by other fanbois, you'd know I WAS THE ONE who hailed him as pretty much the best purely analytical caster than we have seen in SC2 to date.

Fuck there are some incredibly delusional people in the SC2 scene. How about you read the original post. http://gosu.com/2011/05/counter-point-totalbiscuits-response-to-our-casting-article/

I've highlighted the important bit for you.

IdrA is not a good caster. He does not have the training to be a good caster, he is too quiet, he is frequently monotone, he stumbles in his speech, he has no flow to speak of, he lacks the ability to express passion and emotion. He is however, an analyst of exceptional skill and calibre, easily one of the best in the business. He should be lauded for this however the distinction must be made there.

This is how sportscasting works 101 – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play_by_play

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_commentator

IdrA is a colour-commentator. He fits all the criteria, he is analytical, he is there to provide background and extensive game knowledge, based on experience as a current/ex-player. He is there to fill in time when the play-by-play commentator is not talking and as a knowledgeable resource to back up the play-by-play commentator, who is more often than not, not a professional player/coach/ex-player, but a professional broadcaster.

So to hell with dumb fanbois who can't read I say.

you can get angry all you want, i tried to be nice about it. you criticize him for being monotone, and yet that allows him to get across what he wants to say without sounding like a complete tool while he does it. you're seriously going to criticize him as a caster for his microphone settings being off? really? thats the best youve got? the captain of being a fucking moron while casting is going to come back with the, oohhh your mic isnt set up properly. gosh.

you want to talk about flow. heres how it works, when someone who is casting a game says something that is just wrong, not an opinion you disagree with, but just wrong. guess what that does? interupt flow. your job as a caster is to draw the player in to care about the game, to feel the tension of the moment. but how can we keep that when people like you just say stuff that makes no sense?

stop coming up with weird arguments in a hyper aggressive way against one of the most popular people in the community and maybe people wouldnt dump on you constantly.

Good riddance and while you're at it please make sure to refrain from applying to league such as IPL in the future, we don't want you there neither. Stay in your own thread ans cast your own tournament/games, everybody wins, somewhat.

lol. GL with that, the guy hosts a invitational that hits 20k viewers that I didn't even realize was going on until I just happened to be on at the time it was being aired. Leagues would have to be retarded to not want TB to cast.

Geezes someone needs a reality pill. TotalBisquit is one of the most popular and respected casters in the world. Its people like him, Tasteless, Day9, Artosis that we actually have a community to talk about.

This show is really lacking without incontrol, Painuser and Idra have so little emotion, there's a lot lacking here.

I like TotalBiscuit and his casting, even if he is a little too defensive.

TotalBiscuit, just ignore Idra, he has said the entire foreigner scene sucks more than once so you're not in bad company, he didn't gg against Boxer, he quits in games he has won, and he casts like he has no soul. (Not like his mic setting are off, like he has no soul.) Should probably just ignore someone like him.

You'd be surprised at how munch a few emails to the right person could grant or deny you opportunities. I Know for a fact that the most notorious leagues and figureheads of our community listen quite a lot to the fans/target audience opinions.

You don't strike me as arrogant at all, I'm not sure why you're bringing that up... Everyone has influence to an extent. EVERYONE. Especially when dealing with a small niche and precise target demographic. And you have no idea of who I am and what personal influence I have.

You're the one who keeps mentioning him... And I have no problem at all with anyone for being honest, I'm not flaming you because "you're honest". I was just stating my opinion.

I can't quote.

I agree, Inside the Game is a lot like a Game of Thrones. Incontrol is Tyrion.

I've always been a fan of the 'if you don't like something, ignore it and hope it goes away' when it comes to mass market things. I don't like reality TV, so I don't watch it and hope it goes away. I don't like TB's casting, so I don't watch him and hope he goes away. I don't like pages of flame posts, so I don't read them (ok, I made a mistake this time), and hope they go away. It's perfectly fine to not like something and also not make a big deal about it too.

It doesn't always work, but it does keep me sane.

I think the key difference is that TB is responding to people that dislike him, whereas all those sports commentators that say something you disagree with aren't currently reachable.

I like his commentary, it livens up games. I've tried doing commentary myself, and it is so hard to put spirit into the game, explain players actions and question their decision making.

It is a lot easier to shout shit from the stands of a football game than kick the ball yourself.

Does anyone else read this thread and think about this comic: http://xkcd.com/386/ ? I sure as hell do.

I know it can be frustrating TB, but I wish you would just let it go. There's always gonna be haters.
