It does not matter whether you win or lose (even though it's a cliche), the reason anyone playing or doing something they love is through, or at least should be, having fun. There is only one example as to why I would like to make this thread: creativity.
How many of you players out there work on a single build order to concise measures, trying game after game, doing the same thing over and over again to perfect a, in some cases, stolen build? While this may seem fun for some players who are in it for the kill and the thrill of winning, how about the bronze, silver and even gold league veterans who may be inclined, just to keep up with this strategy, to do the same.
So, right now, take a step back out of your current position in Starcraft, whether it be you from the depths of the bronze league, or the mighty peak of the Grandmaster league, and ask yourself, am I really having fun? am I just playing this because, mabye, I feel inclined to keep on with this effort that I have started? Some of you will just close this thread or flag it for not having an immediate point, but I want you to ask yourself and hopefully realise the reason you are playing this game.
I come to the second part of this, hopefully, insightful post for those of you who are still here, and for those who this relates too:
It's time for a change, whether it be stop playing the same old build order or whether it being changing race completely. What you will find is, this immediate change invigorates this once love for starcraft, as if you've taken a step into a totally different work force or just simply learning something new.
Now, if changing race is far too extreme, I strongly suggest, and not just those people but everyone, that you stop build orders completely. What I have found is to achieve playing this game and to get the full scope of enjoyment (and I assure you it is so much fun) is that actually exercising your mind to make sudden decisions and to react accordingly is far more fun that playing close to a previously structured play. I don't intend you to do this EVERY game you play, however, I only am offering the idea of a change once in a while. Try using, if zerg, infestor play. Try using, as terran, Ghost play. Try using as protoss, Dark templar or warp prison play. Just at least try to find a specific reason as to why you log on every day to play this game.
If you are still here listening too me, you may have been (at least a little bit) inspired to log on in a totally pure and almost childish fashion to explore a new game.

When I start getting bored of what I've been doing or it just isn't working for me I like to switch to playing random for a while.

idk about you, but i ENJOY playing only one race :/

I was playing only Z till I made the switch to random back in Dec. I don't follow any BOs and I play the game the way I like it. I've used a ton of different units/abilities, some that are underused and unappreciated such as wrap prisms, motherships, etc.... and had a blast doing it. Nothing like wrapping in dts right into an opponent's base or nuking a Protoss army then just rolling your opponent with MMM My point is, I agree with you to a degree. I think playing the game with a BO is fine and all because it'll help you improve but you also need to be flexible and I don't think most BOs are. By having a random BO, it's much more difficult for your opponent to know what to expect. I played a friend of mine recently(PvsT on XC). I took the game but afterwards he says that he hates playing against me. I ask why and he mentions its because my builds are weird and random. Funny thing is, I actually didn't do anything bizzare in that game XD. Anyways, I think someone switching their race to another is a little too big of a step, but, playing around with all of their races' units is a better one to start then they can switch when they feel like they are ready(after playing customs/practice, etc....)

In regards to build orders, mine is 15 hatch, 14-16 pool, 17 gas, 17 overlord. After that I just wing it each and every game. To keep having fun I just try weird strategies and what not. Sure I would most likely win more if I followed a strict build order but I am a very lazy person (only hotkey hatches). Somehow I made my way to masters.

Offtopic, but you're not the real Zyzz, right?

I enjoy refining my build to the point that it runs like a Swiss watch. I enjoy practicing until my opponents don't stand a chance. I don't enjoy doing kooky "fun" unit compositions, I enjoy copying what pros do because they do things that win games, and I love punishing the shit out of people who try to get away with poorly thought-out "creative" builds.
To be more to the point, I really don't like the insinuation that the people who are working hard to improve at the game are somehow having less fun than the people who are messing around or whatever. I know you might think it's fun to do something crazy, but to me, it isn't really interesting, it's just... "oh look I clicked the buttons to build stargate/fleet beacon/mothership, I mean I lost because my build was awful, but look I hit the requisite key sequence so I had FUN!!!!"

Agree.

I enjoy playing the same build order over and over again until I fully master it on all maps.

I'm enjoying trying to become better

To a certain extent, you need build orders to have a chance to do something nonstandard. If you're not doing *some* standard aspects, you're going to get rolled before you have a chance to actually have fun.
Playing on the NA ladder, I've noticed that most of my opponents play to win (read: have one build order and they do it every game) so I don't really get a chance to do something super creative or fun unless we've divided the map and neither player wants to push for fear of throwing the game away. As I eluded to earlier, doing something fun usually results in getting stomped before I can do anything new.
It's sad really, because doing the same thing over and over really isn't fun. I can understand professionals who need to practice because it's their job. However, I absolutely cannot relate to people who think it's fun to do the same thing over and over again... maybe they're just boring people? lol.
