Kotaku wrote:Blizzard has indicated that it plans a different approach for the first StarCraft II expansion, one that focuses on Sarah Kerrigan and the Zerg legions for its campaign. It's expected that Heart of the Swarm will include some RPG-like mechanics and perhaps include new Zerg units.
My guess is that Kerrigan will a player character more often than Raynor was, and that you'll have a tech tree similar to WoLs except that the tech choices grant Kerrigan with different abilities.
+ Show Spoiler +Maybe a good/evil thing since that's all the rage these days and Kerrigan's a bit of a tabula rasa now
A new campaign will be a fun diversion but I'm really looking forward to the multiplayer changes!

This should be STARCARFT , not WARCRAFT -.-
wow blizzard really is going big for money there... and dont care about Starcraft Fans.
It's the single player mode... I don't think it'll be that horrible. I hope so. Cuz if they gonna implement that shit in Multiplayer imma be really disappointed.
I can't believe someone actually believes Blizzard is stupid enough to put RPG elements in the multiplayer of an RTS game with a fairly competitive scene . . .

One month...sounds like E3 (although that's a bit less than that)...would be kind of weird to have their own separate event since it doesn't seem like they're showing enough to make a big deal out of it.

Awesome Hopefully they show some multiplayer stuff as well!

I really hope they balance the diamondback to make it useful. I think the unit was pretty cool even though it was too expensive for its use.
|
I await in terror to see what "new cool" overpowered units that they will bring into the game so they can break it even more.
There is still hope, but very little ;(

I think they learned their lesson. The interview Dustin Browder about game development and unit design was pretty illuminating. I think this will be an opportunity for them to clean up after themselves and (hopefully) give some better reincarnations of old bw units, or at least concepts.
Dark swarm, irradiate, and viable recall/stasis would be fun tech to see. The colossus can be reduced to a candy-cane trebuchet that launches stuffed puppies and confetti if I can have arbiters and reaver play back...
I hope to God they don't make the mistake of providing just one race with new units at the expansions.

Ya everyone should stop bugging about the rpg element. You gotta be prettay foolish to think theyd add something like that to 1v1. MAYBE they will add the idea of queens that level up depending on where they were made (hatch, liar, hive) cause orgionally they wanted to make all sorts of different queens than scrapped it.
Or as someone said, probably some zerg hero unit that levels up throughout the campaign.
Looking forward to some offish vids tho

talk about over-reaction much... I expect it be similar to the upgrade/research system, but possibly surrounding Kerrigan herself instead of the army. I'm gonna wait and see what their plan is before screaming about it on forums...

Damn you Kotaku! I want to be there! I'm so jealous.

Terran be missing out?
I heard they are done the campaign work, and how hard can it be to stuff 3 new units in multiplayer for release and balance them later with patches :p

Hopefully we get Defilers and lurkers back...
Please don't mess this up

If the ending will be just as in the leeked cgi movie, then i gonna cry so hard >.<

I'd love to see a return of lurkers and medics . I'd say add another unit for protoss to even it out but they already have so many options and units, I don't think they need anymore diversity.
|
Can't wait to see what they got planned. I loved the single player in this game. Need to go back and redo it some.

really ? Im hoping for about 3 new units for each race and maybe even a new tech path

Given the fact that Zerg are a species that "choose" how to evolve and that they take characteristics from other life forms,I'd expect the RPG-like elements to be like "choose your next evolutionary step" or something. It would also make sense on Kerrigan.
|
My predictions:
Zerg will get a Corruptor or Mutalisk morph (other than Broodlord for Corruptors) and maybe the Lurker.
Protoss will get a new Stargate caster unit that requires a Dark Shrine and has upgrades at it.
Terran will either get a new Factory or Starport unit, though I think it will be Factory. Diamondbacks anyone? In addition, Reapers will get Landmines.

New Zerg units should be cool, I expect one of these to be added to the MP eventually. Same crap that resulted in the Mothership. Browder's team again building a singleplayer game without regard to balance or design. Yeah, because the Mothership sure is IMBA and overused... I have faith in Blizzard to make the campaign gameplay ridiculously good. The story of all the SC series has never been written particularly well, but people don't buy SC games for the storyline.
in the early stages of beta the mothership was vastly overpowered, but it got hit with the nerf bat so hard over the course of beta and release that it is now just a gimmick unit that is used only in cheese strategies or if ur already winning the game. it servers rly no purpose and can easily be sniped off. why the hell the replace arbiters with that hulking mass of shit ill never know.
