I think what people need to realize is that the GSL started out similar to NASL. They increased their production and their VODs and all that as time went on and they got more experience. NASL will be the same. More time = better quality.

Except for streaming problems GSL was much much better at start.
And at the moment they look like a Champions League compared to some 2nd division of a 2nd rated European National Football league.

Gretech was leveraging their significant existing investments in production, both in equipment and personnel. For example, the cameras used in GSL are in the 50k-100k range alone, not including stand/mounting hardware and accessories (e.g., output cards, viewfinders, power supplies, etc).

NASL is starting from scratch. It'll take time/$$$.

Personally, I love watching the daily evolution of NASL. Can't wait to compare a NASL broadcast 3-4 months from now to the first broadcast - I bet the difference will be night and day.

not read thread, but if it's not been said already - watching the EU restream now. but wait, on the same main page just below the stream i see that slush is 1-0! i wonder what's going to happen in his match with moonglade?

I am currently watching the free EU-Broadcast and I can't help but wonder how so many people tout the NASL to offer a very HQ streaming even in the free stream.

I'm seeing a video quality so poor that I can barely make out any word in the game interface except the unit name. Even the GSL gave a better quality stream outright, albeit a laggy one.

The first GSL Open was NOT that much better than these broadcasts. Artosis and Tasteless had far less game knowledge than Gretorp and iNc and were constantly calling units by the wrong names, the games were of arguably lower quality than the ones we're seeing in NASL, and I remember at least one instance of "we're just sitting here waiting for a competitor."

That happened to me at first too...then I realized I could click on 480 to drastically increase the quality. It's definitely better than my SQ stream was for GSL when streamed through VLC.

Reminds me of July waiting for White-ra for 4 hours.

Why would they set the default stream to such low quality? -_-ll
I upped the bitrate and it seems much better.

VODs should be available in lower qualities. It says they will be on their FAQ, but they are not.

I don't like the weird music. The synergy between the casters could have been better. Besides that, it all seems good.

It is the first week, as time goes on it will be better. I remember GSL first season and compared to the GSL at the moment, it sucked...Things will get better in time, don't worry. The only thing we need to do, is to support NASL.

I was baffled too. Every time since it's opened at 480p (and for a while at 1080p despite me not having paid for a HQ pass/VODs).

The standings shouldnt be directly under the live Stream. I am just watching the EU restream and the result of Slush vs. Moonglade has been spoiled because of this.

ofcourse stuff will get better.thats the whole point of this thread.

but to be fair gsl season1 was from the start very good.esp the production always was topnotch. biggest problem of gsl1 was stream and unknown players/low level of play.

most important thing for me is mic quality and sound level, so i dont have to change the volume all the time, but most broadcasts have that problem :\

I have only watched a few matches so far - Artosis's and inControl's - but in both, the caster's computer appeared to be running a chat utility, and the BLOOIP sound that is generated when a message is received was being broadcast. I thought I had left Skype running by mistake at first, then I rewound the video a few times and realized that the sound effect was being generated by the NASL video.

Make sure you guys turn off all programs that aren't part of the broadcast on the casting machine!

When the core of the service is streaming content and high quality VODs don't you think some of that money should be invested into the delivery system? This is especially true when video hosting and streaming is more sophisticated and accessible than ever before.

Justin.tv, Ustream, 3D, even Blit.tv are content farms. They are not professional grade content delivery systems. We're playing into their hands by continuously pumping so much content through them.

Sure, it's "not that easy," but it is certainly within the realm of possibility for a professional organization. You get a dedicated server, you purchase a software suite that can handle your content production and delivery needs, and you make sure you have the talent to produce the and deliver the content.

Perhaps you don't understand the scope of Justin.tv/Ustream/Livestream. Let me try and illustrate it for you.

This is a tournament such as the TSL or FXOpen.

They cannot create their own content delivery system, unless they cast the game on napkins.

Interesting perspective. I'm not sure I agree, necessarily, but interesting none-the-less.

It's sort of in the OP and probably mentioned in here somewhere.. But hold pictures/facts of players longer and not for 2-3 sec. then switch to commentators. There's only a few lines of information but I would very much like to read it.. Like in the TSL it's only the facs and maps while they introduce the upcoming match, and I much rather have that in front of me then the casters. Allthough it is nice to have the studio shot of the caster in between for a shorter amount of time, the players should have the focus. IMO at least.

It is called "Baneling Nest" and "Roach Warren"

Maybe I'm just a JustinTV noob, but get them to disable the chat-alerts on-screen. Its great that the chat is being moderated and people are being put on time out, but I really don't need/want it taking up 1/10th of the screen for 15 seconds, or forcing me to close the update window.

Otherwise... *insert generic complaint about commentating with mention of Day[9] while ignoring how little time casting as a pair iNcontrol and gretorp have had*

As someone with 0 experience commentating, and therefore an internet authority on the matter... I would love to suggest some time together (if you can find it) actively working on the casting roles etc. each of you do early on while you both develop more rounded and complete casting abilities. Both of you have tons of experience with SC, talking about starcraft etc. but have you done that much with casting as a pair?

gotta say that incontrols reaction to what gretorp said during haypro/kawaii backwater game was really bad.

ok you wanna keep it "lcean" and want to do what the email guy said. but dont break the whole casting and expose gretorp like that . very awkward moment for me.

Considering the matches are streamed 10-12 hours later for europeans it's not a good idea to have the current standings directly below the live stream. It's pretty much inevitable to take a quick glance and then, if you're unlucky, you know the outcomes of the games you're looking forward to watch.

This is a pretty big issue for all the people that can't watch the "live" broadcast.
