What it is: I've run into the problem many times where I don't have time to watch all the SC2 matches being played out there. Between GSL, MLG, NASL IPL, Dreamhack, etc. there's not enough time to watch everything. This site aims to solve that problem by providing a rating of all matches played for all pro tournaments. Ratings are provided by users, (on a 1 to 5 scale) and then averaged. Ratings are for each matchup - not each game. That means a best of 3 will get one score, and a best of 9 will get one score. Registration will track your votes, so you can see which games you've watched (assuming you rate the games you watch), and which games you've liked.

I would like to give a very special shout out to nekoconeco for putting together the Firefox add-on and the Chrome extension. Version 1.0 is done, and being process/reviewed by chrome/mozilla addon sites right now. If you have a moment, check out his stream, and thank him for his hard work :D http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=304143
Thanks, and lets all give a round of applause to Team Liquid for giving such a great home to the Starcraft Community.
Thanks, but the link doesn't work. It should be "http://ratings.regalgoblins.com" instead of "http://ratings.reagalgoblins.com" right? That worked for me.
It's Funny how you say, you don't have time to watch these games yet you do have time to build an awesome rating site! all for free, you sir are an evil Hypocrite ;p
Oh a small suggestion, it'd be nice to know which games of a series are worth watching. I only say this because on dream hack IdrA 6 pooled in his 2nd game and wasn't worth watching compared to game 1, but Idk how useful that would be to anyone else
Hey guys, sorry about the broken registration link, I recently changed domain and forgot to update the link to reflect that. Those of you that registered and got a broken link, I'm so sorry - I've pushed your registration through, so you're good to go. Thanks for finding this bug.
@Arccotangent: Thanks so much, I ran out of the office thinking to myself, "Shit, I didn't test the link... what if it's wrong?"
I registered just to tell you I could not believe this exact thing did not exist before and that you should go post this on wellplayed.org and reddit.com/r/starcraft so you get as many ratings as possible. Thanks!!!
Thank you all for your encouragement! To be honest, I was pretty nervous going into this, but I really have been wanting to give back somehow so I went for it anyway.
Also, I could use some help if anybody wants to. I really need a visual designer, because the site could use a facelift. If you've got some design chops, PM me.

That is in the works as we speak, I just didn't get it done in time, and I really wanted to launch with the NASL. My biggest concern with a comments section would be trolls posting spoilers. What do you think about having, instead of a comments section, a few different parameters to vote up/down with a simple yes/no? Parameters like, "Back and Forth", "Strong Play", "Funny" etc.

Don't really need a comment section, but maybe # of ratings would be nice. Usually a good game will have way more ratings than just a normal one.
As someone who wants to try and rate the games, could there be an option to hide what other people have voted so as to try and remain impartial? I find that it's harder to vote true to my heart when I already see what everyone else has picked. Especially with a "scale" as opposed to simple yes/no questions.
Although then again, maybe it's just me, I tend to be pretty obsessive about things like these.
Bumping this because how incredibly useful it is for people like me who just plain dont have enough time to watch all these matches, holy CRAP this is so awesome to easily find 1-3 games to watch a day if that is all you have time for
Just a quick heads up: I've added the Round of 32 matches for this new season of the GSL (season 6). Since some of the match ups are so variables, I wont be able to post every match at the start of the season, so if that match between MC and whoever he crushes was really good, but not up yet, check back later in the day/next day so you can vote for it.
Also, for those of you who are simply coming for the ratings, and not posting your own: Shame on you. The community grows together, so do your part and post your own opinions!
EDIT Since I'm still a little new to PHP and mysql, I've temporarily taken down GSL Season 1 while I move my databases to a more efficient format. All votes are saved, and will be restored when everything is in place. Sorry and thank you for your understanding.
What would make this site much better would be direct links to the games. You could let the users add the links and maybe a link-vote/-status to avoid bad links.
Hope it is not illegal to do as it would make the site enormously practical and popular.
Edit to clarify: Whad id like is a small VOD icon that would link to the appropriate game at its original adress, so the game would be watched like it is today, but it would save the user the hassle of locating it.
Another suggestion would be a show all/search function so you dont have to click through everything to get to the game. This "show all" page should enable sorting based on race/rating etc etc.
Great idea!!!!!!!!!!!! That is exactly what I need, there is simply not enough time to watch everything and TL live reports not always include recommendation for games. Keep it plain and simple and it should be fine, I like the idea very much.
I really like the idea! Some constructive criticism for future work
1) Would like to see the amount of votes for each match
2) a toplist, with like the top 50 best rated matches across all leagues
3) 'Streamline' design and information. I had to click alot of times to get to certain GSL matches.
3) Would love if the frontpage was a list of all matches sorted per day. So like if i visit the page today, the frontpage would a list of all matches played yesterday sorted by ratings. The columms could be something like:
RATING PLAYER1 RACE vs RACE PLAYER 2 LEAGUE ROUND/DIVISION 1.5/5 Whitera Protoss vs zerg July NASL division 2 0.3/5 MC Protoss vs Terran IMMvp GSL R64
I fully support this idea, and will be using it in the coming months where there will be masses of games to try and go through for the amazing ones. You should also have a stats page that gives stats for each tourny. stuff like average game rating, number of ratings above 4, number of games total, etc. From my understanding it would just be a few lines of code with some equations, but I'm not a coder so it may be more difficult... Additionally ways to sort by matchup and order by highest ranked games, most voted on games, stuff like that.
This is a great initiative, but if you don't have any intentions of monetizing it, I wonder if there isn't just a way to work with TL staff so that it's directly integrated into a thread.
Really i like recap threads, specially when they have rating or pools on the what is worth watching.
So really usefull idea.
Best IMO would be pool YES, NO, IF YOU HAVE TIME, and a second pool with fixed options like Cheese, Carrier BC Mothership play, Innovative style, etc... Don't allow text because of spoils. You must take care of spoils so don't show if there is a third match on a Bo3 for example but show it 1 by 1, with some see next "ajax" tricks.
I won't use the website if i have to register, there a PLENTY of starcraft website, and even if its usefull even on the TL recap there there are often only like 100 vote for VOD review pools. So it's really niche, you really should looking to integrate that with TL if possible ! Would be amazing !
OR a least ask recap threads author to link to your website.
A good idea I can't really help rating since I'm in the same position as the OP, I just don't have the time to follow all these tournaments and even excluding some tournaments because they don't have the top players or a good structure you're still left with all the tournaments mentioned in the OP and more. So this is a welcome relief so you can stay somewhat current about the sc2 scene if you want to without having to give up on your life completely
On April 20 2011 01:28 beridoxy wrote: ...You must take care of spoils so don't show if there is a third match on a Bo3 for example but show it 1 by 1...
That is a problem, so I'm just going to take the approach of "How good was this Bo3" rather than "How good was this game in this Bo3". We run into problems with team leagues, where you want to rate each game, but then displaying who's playing is a spoiler right off the bat.
If you've got a good idea on how to eliminate spoilers from Team Leagues, I'm all ears.
Update: TSL3 rounds 32-8 added VOD Links for TSL3 added Total votes for a match added slight visual changes and formatting. Starting to add VOD links for other matches [EDIT] New URL: http://www.sc2ratings.com [/EDIT]
sorry for two posts so close together, but I thought the new info warranted a bump.
[EDIT 4/22] about 85% done with pages devoted to player information. It will have: 1) A list of all the tournaments they've been in (that we have stats for) 2) Which matches they played in those tournaments 3) The results of each matches behind a spoiler tag 4) Rating of the matches and the ability to rate the matches. 5) The username and race that the player went by in that tournament 6) Perhaps some player bio info (ASL, name, etc?) any anything else I can think of, you guys can suggest
Will have this info for all players, and will be easily accessible just by clicking on their name in a match up.
Uh oh... I see a ban in my future for bumping this, but there is a lot of new content, and editing it in to a previous post doesn't really get it noticed :/.
New content! TSL added, VOD links added Total vote count added New URL Player Info page added (click on player names within a season)

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. This is still a work in progress and it would go a long way to helping me if you could take a screen shot of the error and email/pm it to me, or even just post it here in the thread.

A spoiler-free version for the GSL is a must though. It's unusable at the moment for anyone who doesn't want to get spoiled.
If you say you think you will be banned for posting this, then you will be banned for it.

I have the same problem : the red captcha box is "empty", meaning that there are no images of letters/numbers, just this text : Input error: Invalid refere
However, congrats for this site! I'll try to rate as soon as I can!
UPDATE: Registration fixed. Sorry about that guys. GSL 4 Added IPL 1 Added No spoilers for group play in GSL anymore Added match winners behind spoiler tags.
As for why there's so few ratings, well, registration was broken for a week or so without me noticing, and I've been doing a huge content pump in the last few days so there's lots of new stuff people haven't had a chance to look over yet.
Please keep the recommendations coming, and again, if anybody wants to help on the visual design, please PM me.

Fixed problems with registration emails
Landmarks! Since fixing the registration yesterday, our user base has doubled, and we're now at 120 Users Total number of votes has finally exceeded total number of matches, and is sitting at 850 votes.

If you say "I may be getting banned for this" you will, if you are uncertain if it's bannable, it's probably a good idea to not post it.
And to the developer, I think you should consider what Chill said and work with TL on this. The thing is, almost any new SC2 program nowadays is so hard to take off for the sole reason, that teamliquid has a monopoly [not sure what it shouldn't be called], a good monopoly but one nontheless. I think they would be able to help you with this project tons, I know the feeling of the want to do it yourself... But if you work in coolaboration you can expect it to be less work for you, there could be some other people that can be updating the matches sometimes etc.
Not sure if you didn't already think about it, but it's a win win situation for both.
You need somekind of a marker to where a certain league was played. Let's say i want to watch the latest IPL games. With this design, how can i know that up to where the games were published?
I misclicked ro4 and spoiled the entire row of matches
Upate Added a contact form, so if you find a bug, have a question, or have a suggestion, you can let me know Changed the form submit process so it no longer requires a page refresh.

You're absolutely right. I'll get on that as soon as I can.
I've been hoping a site like this would come along. sc2casts comes close, but it doesn't have anything behind a paywall.
My comments so far:
- Are you automatically adding games by parsing the gomtv/nasl websites? That would probably be the best way going forward so you don't have to add them manually.
- Do you have Code A stuff on there? When looking at the GSL stuff, i only seem to see the Code S matches

Right now I'm adding things manually, because I have no idea how to parse websites. Even if I could parse, I don't know if I would: gomTV has some really bad naming policies, take a look at Idra season 4. He withdrew in season 5, and now his name in season 4 is "Withdraw". The names displayed on the schedule page don't match on the vod page, which don't match what's actually used in game. And they don't list all Ro16 matches for the current season (which doens't make it easier to do by hand either. who the hell is playing who in R016?!?!) Yay! Online now.
I've been getting a lot of requests for Code A, so I might add it this weekend, but I probably wont go back and add previous code A seasons unless I get a lot of requests for them as well.
Small update today: Bug fixes for contact form Cookies set, so now you don't have to log again after 15 minutes of inactivity Color coded ranking system altered slightly: Red < 2, Black <3.5, Blue <4.5, Green < 5.
The color system may change slightly over time to get a better distribution. I'm open to suggestions from you guys.
There will probably be no updates tomorrow, but Friday and this weekend hopefully will signal the arrival of the much asked for Code A matches (season 6), and a sorting mechanism to see the best matches.
Yo this looks awesome I'm totally going to go register right now...but you should definitely add Code A... that would be fantastic because i usually watch every Code S but would love a guide of the not lame/super 1 sided Code A games
I like the site, it feels very smooth! Good work! More ratings will make it more accurate, but more ratings will come with time. I know I look for specific types of play styles when hunting around pro games, for example I might be looking for a PvT where terran opens FE. So it might be nice to have a spoiler where you can uncover the openings for each player. Since this site was made for you to save time, it might be a little inconvenient for you to go through and do this for every match. But its just an idea I think would really be awesome if you ever get the time to add it
I have always wanted something like this, such a great idea. I usually don't have time for NASL so finding matches that are entertaining when I have the time is so easy now.
Would probably be best if you PM'd some of the OPs of the live report threads in NASL/GSL/IPL and asked them if they want to link your site in the main post, that way it would get a lot more visibility.

+1
That's a really good suggestion.
I would like to see TSL and NASL give publicity to sc2ratings as well. More people need to rate these games.

I have already sent out a few emails to the NASL and GSL about their vod naming patterns, hoping to find a way where I have the VOD link show up automatically, and not have to input them manually; however, neither group has gotten back to me.
But, if you think they'll listen, I'll try contacting them again.
Great site! As a first impression its very clean and straightforward.
I'd like if I could toggle spoilers on then off, but thats pretty minor. Definitely making an account and looking forward to see where you guys take this.
As a feature request.. I'd love to see all of the stats complied, organized by player, or even by tournaments. So you can see who's won the most boXs, streaks (ie. 5w, 0, 5L) and just by games organized by who the most won.

Just signed up, I'll be sure to rate every game I watch since this is such a good idea for shifting through the massive surge of games recently. Hope this site does really well, you should try to get it promoted on some streams and other forums if possible... maybe not GSL forums, trolls would destroy you :<
This is pretty cool, and I encourage it. I hope you do some more marketing to drive traffic to the site because right now the ratings don't have enough votes to be statistically significant.
Saturday Update: 1) Changing between rounds (Round of 32, Round of 16, Round of 8, etc), is now handled with javascript, and doesn't require a page refresh. 2) Tournament section (Division play, Play offs, finals, etc) now has a font color change when you're in that tournament section. I.E. when you're in the Division play section, the tab Division Play is now in blue. 3) Fixed race icons after a previous update broke them on the player page 4) Working on a fix so spoilers for the whole match (GSL group section), have breaks between them, rather than show as a solid block. Mostly done, but looks a little funny when the spoiler fades away. 5) 40% done with the much asked for sorting function. 6) Updated to latest IPL, NASL and GSL stats for the current tournaments
Expect to see the sorting function done sometime Sunday along with a boat load of other changes if I get the time.
Sunday Update: Added Sorting feature. Minor bug fixes in a few places.
I'ma go play me some portal2 coop, but afterwards I'll get started on the bookmark features, and user preferences. Please leave any feedback you have on how to improve the site in this thread, or via the "file a bug" form on the site.
Apparently there are some problems (again) with registration, and maybe some problems with the contact form. I'm working on them now. If you are experiencing any issues, please let me know in this thread.
Well, I'm not able to see any problems with registration (sometimes the emails take a while to show up), and it looks like the contact / file a bug form is fixed (also added an email address field to the form, so people understand that if they want me to get back to them, they have to provide some sort of way for me to contact them).
Again, the more feed back you guys give, the better we can make this
Hmm I've skipped clicking on this thread many times because I thought it was gonna be a tournament/league quality whine thread. Boy am I glad to say that I'm wrong!
The last couple days I've been wanting to catch up or rewatch some of the best series that happened recently and it's proven to be a real pain searching for the threads that contain the recommended games. For example, there is actually a gap in the coverage of the GSL atleast, for one or two of the days I couldn't for the life of me find the thread that contains the recommended game polls. I did find a lot of others but it was a hassle.
That's exactly where you come in and it's awesome. Everything is in a centered location, I can easily and efficiently look up what some of the recommended series are and the website looks very clean. I will definitely be using it sporadically to catch up on great series.
As for suggestions, I do want to chime in since I enjoy doing it, so here goes:
I'm a big fan of cooperation/collaboration/integration, making things work together well. As PartyBiscuit notes:
On April 30 2011 00:48 PartyBiscuit wrote: Would probably be best if you PM'd some of the OPs of the live report threads in NASL/GSL/IPL and asked them if they want to link your site in the main post, that way it would get a lot more visibility.
I would like to expand on this with arguably a dream proposition, that is to make the end goal having the seperate parts of your system, Note "I don't know if that exists currently but just an overview of a single series and the ability to vote on it", become integrated inside the spoilers as opposed to the TL poll. It's because PartyBiscuit notes something incredibly important and that is exposure. If you don't have to compete with the TL poll but replace it, it would add tremendous value.
On a side note as a less desired alternative, should it be impossible to work with TL like this to expand your voting input, maybe you can make it so your system also counts the votes from the TL polls? Now that I think it over again I think this is actually a non alternative since it would require a lot of manual work in which it's better to link to your system or something.
Another thing when going down this road is that one could possibly use their TL account to do the voting. I really don't like having to make an account to be able to vote and I think I understand why it's necesary and maybe I'm just not a person to actively vote and rate series but if it was more accessable by being able to use the TL account, the system would also see a lot more use.
On the point of the embedding vote overviews and the like on webpages. It's usage expands beyond just the TL forum. Maybe the liquipedia can somehow embed them as well. I know I tried to look there but wasn't able to find a recommened game listing.
To approach a closing statement, I would definitely suggest taking up the suggestion of starting up communications with the people who make the overview threads. It's usually the same people who do it, although it differs sometimes and since you are pretty much doing an important part of the total overview, there should be a lot to gain from being able to coordinate and what not.
I will share my view on this because I feel it's hard to convey this "vision" in ambiguities. Those who create the overviews would know they can depend on your system to handle the recommended games segments. It should be a nicer way than manually making millions of spoilers with tons of polls. It will create a more unified look. If everything looks the same, I think for those using it or just looking at it they percieve it as having higher value. Call it professionalism if you will, I would tend away from the term because of the negative connotation it currently has amongst the community when it relates to the future of e-sports etc. But in this context, I do feel it can be used appropriately.
I might've gone a bit of a rant. All my points, as of this moment, should be in there though and I would like to wish you a lot of success, I truly hope this will be able to take off and you can expand it and that those you will need to communicate with to make it happen will be receptive to your plans.
I'm aware I'm sort of steering in a certain direction here, it's because I'm worried that if it doesn't go that way most of the use will be lost as "just another sc2site" since it needs many people backing it up to make it a household thing. I have no idea if that's actually a valid assesment, what your plans are regarding the future development or how many people are currently using the system, so it's purely based on my perception.
I hope you can take inspiration out of all this, if anything, know your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Edit: While tabbing around my browser and seeing the page again it hit me, I totally forgot another suggestion, that is using the official logo's / banners of the leagues in place of merely the words, should look a lot better if that's possible.

Dude don't worry about it. The site is awesome; just work on getting more people to visit and the leagues will get in contact with you soon enough.
So I've encountered a problem that I need community feedback on. So far I've been distinguishing players based on their real names, but I've run into the problem, while adding GSL6 Code A, of two players with the same name: Kim, Jung-Hoon (oGsTOP) and Kim, Jung-Hoon (NSHoSeo_Tassadar).
The best I can come up with on short notice is to call NSHoSeo_Tassardar Kim, Jung-Hoon 2, but that's not a very clean solution; so, my question to the community is this:
How should I differentiate players with the same Real Name?
Poll in first post.
Edit: There's another problem I'm working on with the top list functionality. Sometimes people may meet more than once in a tournament, and right now the top list doesn't display which time it is that they're meeting. I'm working on fixing that by having each match expand and give more information, but that wont be done for a few days, so please bare with me and this slightly broken function for a while.
I Really like this website. I don't have time to watch all of starcraft VODs, and I don't WanT to have to sit through boring games. It would be great if you can integrate this with the Teamlqiuid site. I know from experience that something like this is a lot of work to keep updated.
One suggestion I had was for the Top List, is to enforce a minimum number of votes required to get to the top of the list. For the sake of argument, let's say 5. Currently, there's a match ranked 5/5 between MarineKingPrime & Nada. While I'm sure that match is pretty awesome, I don't have the same confidence is there are only 2 votes on it, versus a match that has a 4.9/5 from the collection of 65 votes. The site is still small, but this will help the better games be nearer the top of the list.
Edit: Nevermind, thanks for pointing out Kiobu0 that functionality already exits. Dur....
Also, could you include either in the spoiler tag or in a separate tag how the series played out, i.e. 3-0 Hausobs? I know that's more things you have to add manually, but if you can figure out a way to parse that from other sites that would be awesome.

You must have just missed it. There's a variable in the search parameters at the top of the page that controls the minimum number of votes required for something to show up.

This isn't something I'm ready to do yet, because right now it's all a manual process, and being handled by just me. If this site gets big enough that I have other people helping me on it, that may get included.
But, I do have more detailed match info coming soon.
Update Added GSL World Championship 1 Added back end stuff that you don't care about. Hopefully more to come later tonight, else more to come tomorrow evening.
Update Little bug fixes here and there. Decided not to add the previous EG Masters cup series' after putting a few hours into collecting data and trying to find vods. If I'm just an idiot, and there are vods of all the matches somewhere, please let me know. If the next season is going to have vods available, I'll add it.
It has a poll to see if I should add a section for SotG and the Day[9] Daily. Please leave feedback on why not if you think we shouldn't.
With an overwhelming YES vote (90%), I'll be adding this. I have the structure and 20 some dailies in right now, but it looks like crap, so I'm taking some time to make sure people don't barf after viewing the page.
Update I've added in the first round of match detail information. When you see a match somewhere, you can now expand it to see more information. Right now the detail information is limited to Season, Date, Tournament Section, Division/Round, and Group when applicable.
In this area is where I'll be adding other parameters on which to rate matches.
Also, tell others about this site! If we can get more people using this, we'll have more accurate ratings, ratings for more matches, and hopefully if it gets big enough, I can get some people to help me on it so we can get new match information up sooner!
Wow I love this idea. I can't wait till the project is finished. Definitely gonna sign up in the near future. I never have enough time to watch games or i simply forget that there were games going on.
If possible make it so people can put their reviews of the games so you can get a quick recap. (Ofcourse add a "possible spoilers" warning to the function) Good initiative.
Nice site, but what I'd really like is to be able to see a list of the most recent matches from all of the tournaments (or filter down to the most recent matches from one tournament). So each day I would be able to just look at the list of the most recent matches and go off the ratings to decide which ones to watch. Right now, especially with NASL, it's difficult to find the matches that were played last night because you have to know the correct division and then find the games by scrolling down. It's too cumbersome. Defaults matter.
So it's a nice site and a great idea, because the sheer amount of matches and tournaments being played means that I just can't possibly watch everything. It's a great problem to have, but I'd find it really useful to be able to see what the best games were from each night. But right now I honestly find it too difficult to find yesterday's games. It should be right there as the default when you go to the site imo.
Also I think the fact that this is so cumbersome right now also means that less games are being rated too, making the site less accurate overall for everybody. Who watches a cool game and then wants to go through the trial and error process of finding the correct division in order to rate it? It should be right there, available to rate straight away when you visit the site. So when I watch a cool game like NesTea vs sC I can just go to the site and click on 5.
I'm not saying you should replace the views you already have. They're still useful, but they're more suited towards historical records. We just need more views and an appropriate default view, which I think should be a list of the most recent games (even possibly sub-sorted by the rating too now that I think of it). Imagine being able to look at a list of the highest rated games from yesterday spanning across all tournaments; that would be super useful I think!
Update Added last 20 matches played to home page. ** Found a visual designer to work with me on this, so sometime in the next month or two (hopefully much soooner) you can expect a huge visual overhaul.
** It's been in the works for a while, but I pounded it out today for you dvide. <3 Still needs some visual work though.

Great, looking forward, thanks for all your hard work! Hopefully you can make it more automated so you don't have to do all the work, but I really appreciate what you have done so far!

Hey thanks man looks cool though the up & down matches aren't yet there listed. Is it automated? Still that was something like what I was thinking. Hope I didn't sound condescending. I just wanted to be as convincing as possible that it would be a good feature <3

Things will show up automatically in the last 20 list. The only issue we might have is the logic says, "Show 20 games, ordered by most recent, with a date that is less than today". So, when an up and down match is played, its on the 15th (lets say). But that really means it airs on the 14th for us, but wont show up until the 16th... if that made any sense.

They'll be there.
Oh right I see. Maybe in that case it would be wise to store the times of the games too, rather than just the date. So then you could order by 'less than now' rather than 'less than today', with an appropriate time zone conversion going on. The only issue with that I'm thinking is that people could start rating the games at the moment they start rather than after they've ended. So if the GSL has 4 matches in one day, then at the scheduled time of the broadcast people could start rating the very last match of the day which obviously wouldn't have even started yet, let alone ended.
So perhaps if the games were automatically listed but offset by a few hours to stop that sort of abuse, but also with a way for an admin account (i.e. you) to manually flag each game as being finished if you're around at the time. And then maybe you can find other trusted people to help you out with that task too, so that more often than not the games will be listed very soon after they're finished (and the worst case scenario would only be a few hours delay).
And to make this job easier for the admins, they would have a different default view from normal accounts which would list all the games, including those ones that have started (i.e. date & time is less than now) but are not yet flagged as finished (i.e. it's still before the automatic time offset). And each of these unfinished games would have a simple button for admins that they just have to click in order to flag the game as being over. So then all the admins would need to do is to visit the website and click 'finished' if they're watching live, and spectators who are watching live can also just visit the page and click their rating. These same admins could also help you out with adding new match-ups and new tournaments to the schedule.
Forgive me, I'm just thinking out loud. I don't know if you already have other admins helping you
hahaha, no it's just me. And it's way too much work to find the time that games end (and go back to do the same for all previous games). It means I'd have to be there watching the live stream, and the whole point of this site is that I don't have time to watch every live stream.
Before today will have to be good enough for now. If you really want to see today's matches, it's not too terribly hard to find them.
If you looked at my first post, you'll see that I regularly update it with all the information. I also make a note of it here at the end though so people know what changed in each update.
The buttons on the left side of the screen, with "Add Show, Add Player, Add Match", is this to cut down on the number of submissions you have to do manually? How is that going to work, exactly?

You should not be seeing that.... wtf? That's supposed to be for admin's only.
[edit] Fixed. It would be bad if people started adding random stuff. I mean, no serious harm, but it'd create a lot of clean up for me.

Thanks for bringing that up.
Sure no problem. I was up pretty late last night so I wasn't sure if I was dreaming it.
Although it does bring up a interesting idea. Until you get the system running more automated, it is possible that you can have other people helping you write up the lists for the players/games/matches? It does seem like a lot of work to do correctly the first time...but it's probably best if you're the one setting up the official lists.
I don't know if there's an intermediate solution until you get things fully automated. For example, I'd be crazy enough to go through the past Day[9] daily s and writing up the descriptions....

I'm quite excited for the day when I have other people to help me out on this, but right now I keep changing so much of the back end that it doesn't make sense yet to add on another person. Once things stabilize in a few months, then I might be ready to get some trusted people to help me out.
Right now, my biggest priorities are: Visual redesign User preferences User generated match info
1) I've been talking with about a dozen different designers, and will be getting the first round of sample work from them on friday (those that I didn't scare off).
2) For user preferences, I need to find some time where I don't have anything else going on so I can sit down and pound it out in one setting.
3) For the user generated match info (other parameters on which to rate matches), I'm a little stuck in the "what would work best" stage and really need some feedback, but it doesn't look like people want to give it

Sounds good. I think it would benefit the site to have some flashier titles then just text, but I think functionality is a big priority
2) For user preferences, I need to find some time where I don't have anything else going on so I can sit down and pound it out in one setting.
That will definitely help, but I believe there are already some tools in place that help alleviate the problem. It's not perfect, but I think it will do for now. I like the changes you made showing the last 20 games, that really helps.
I think I echo the sentiment that being able to quickly view the top matches of an entire tournament (IPL V1, TSL3, NASL, GSL 2011 May, etc). would be greatly appreciate. It is great to be able to see the ladder and the individual games with rankings, but another option to have a similar (for the sake or arguement) 20 game list that are the highest ranked. You could even implement it with the Top List page, just add an extra parameter to sort by which tournament.
Like divide mentioned, defaults do matter. The majority of your users to this site will probably be non-registered users who are just looking for the next best game. Even so, the default view is the same for registered users, because there isn't really user preferences :D (it's funny when you think about it, but it kind of works).
3) For the user generated match info (other parameters on which to rate matches), I'm a little stuck in the "what would work best" stage and really need some feedback, but it doesn't look like people want to give it
I won't say that, people in this thread are giving you some great ideas. The ideas stuck out to me when reading this thread were:
1) user comments on individuals matches (with spoiler tags) 2) similar to Captial Ship watch on Liquidpedia, allow for users to select tags which make the games more exciting to watch. For one example, include Carriers/Broodlords/Battlecruiser/Mothership as possible reasons why to watch the match. 3) Include information such as Bo3, Bo5, Bo7 for matches ..... 102301) Linking TL profile with Sc2rantings profile (personal note: this depends on how much TL wants to use this site compared to their own write-ups)
People are giving you suggestions within the thread, I'd say follow those. You're on the right track here with a site that is very useful to the SC2 community as a whole. Divide has also been giving you so useful comments.
Since it sounds like more people are commenting on the thread rather then sending you direct emails, perhaps you could post another poll to see which features people would like implement first. Be sure to update the original post as well as show the poll in the lastest post in the thread.
Maybe I misspoke. There are many good ideas, but they are pretty high level, and I need work on specifics.
1) Comments on matches: I go back and forth on this, because I don't want to spend a lot of time moderating, and I don't want bullshit flame wars that haunts most of the SC community pages. Maybe you can only post comments after X votes, and x time as a registered user, so if you get a temp ban or something, it's actually meaninful... but then I don't want people making extra accounts to get by the bans and then messing up the votes by having many accounts voting over the same thigns.
2) Tags for matches: This is something I'm working on, but I'm having trouble coming up with the correct tags, and was what I meant by, "I'm not getting enough feedback". Maybe I should have asked for it more directly. What sort of tags would be useful to have? It would be horrible to have a bunch of tags, then later find out they suck and replace them with different ones, because then all the work people put into the first set of tags is lost, and people will be disheartened and not want to keep tagging stuff.
3) Yes, this information is already in the database... I"m not sure why I didn't include it in the existing match details. I'll do that tonight when I get home from work. Fixed.
4) Linking with TL accounts: This would be a dream come true, but it's hard to get the TL admins to work with me. Chill has been great, but isn't involved on the tech front much. He recommended some people to PM about tech stuff, but they haven't gotten back to me, and I don't want to spam them with requests. I'm also wanting to do some sort of Open Auth login, but my coding skills aren't that great. I'll see if I can find a free service (something Janrain like) that might do this for me.
5) Best matches per season: Yeah, this is in the works. I'd say it'd be done tonight, but I just got a boxee and a new TV so... I'll probably be playing with that for the next few days =p.
User preferences would be more along the lines of: * Bookmarking matches. That way you can create a saved list of the matches you want to see, and don't have to re-find them later. * Turn off spoilers by default (or at least the group level spoilers) * When listing matches, have the matches that you don't have subscription to called out visually (which means also a way to delineating which matches you do have a subscription to). This, of course, would be an optional service. * Username instead of email for login * Ability to change password
I think the big thing I missing is this: Having another dedicated SC2 fan (or 2) who I can have a long conversation with about the specifics of features, and how best to implement them. That's the sort of dialog I need, and can't really be achieved well through chat.
If you want to be that guy, I'm down. Let's get on a skype call tonight or tomorrow and just solve all these problems. Seriously.

Looks great Koibu0!
You might want to add the 3rd place matches for the TSL between Empire.Kas & mouz.HasuObs.
I want to hear from you guys: What shows / tournaments should we include?!
We've got the big ones: GSL, IPL, NASL, TSL, but what else? I recently added HD World Championship, or whatever it was that HD put out, and the amount of work put into it way outweighed the return on it. Waste of time on my part, I think.
The only other big tournaments I can think of off the top of my head would be Dreamhack and MLG, but I'm sure there's at least a few other major ones I don't know of.

So let me know.
I think one of the reasons that the HD:WC didn't get many reviews was that:
1) There wasn't a link on the home page, so nobody who wanted to rate knew about it. 2) Nobody really knew about in the first place
If we are going to add more tournaments, I think at the very least you need to put another big link to that tournament on the main site, or even a smaller like the podcast links.
Probably a good baseline for what tournaments to cover (given that this posted on teamliquid) is anything that is on the Teamliquid BIG Events Tracker (http://www.teamliquid.net/events/). These will also probably be the easiest to include on the website, as TL already has links for brackets and information done for you, as opposed to hunting around for them.
If you're really ambitious, we could try to do all the events in the Tournament Tracker (http://www.teamliquid.net/tournaments/), but seems like overkill. Given the amount of ratings you got from the HD:WT, I don't think the site is quite big enough that the smallest tournaments will get any ratings.
But hey, until you spread your wings, you'll have no idea how far you can fly :D
See, this is why I ask you guys this stuff. I don't use TL enough to know about the big events tracker or tournament tracker pages. Even with all these events, I still want to know which ones you guys want to see the most, because I don't have time to put everything up right away, so having priorities would be nice. Also, are any of these worth adding previous season, or just the ones from here on out?
I can't have a big button on the page for every tournament, but as things get added, the list will probably morph to look morel like the shows list. I was hoping I'd get a really nice solution from the graphic designers on this, but I was pretty unimpressed with the submissions. I'll probably put out another request for a graphic designer in another week or two.
I'd say as a baseline for what next big tournaments to definitely include would be MLG, Dreamhack, and IPL (you've already made it a link on your page, might as well continue coverage for it ).
That's because the players hadn't be announced (since the matches hadn't been played) so the question marks are fillers. I'm adding the players right now, but it'll take a while since I'm adding them as I'm watching =p
[Edit] Matches added (and rated). Didn't get a chance to see all the matches though.
Don't worry about having to see all the TL matches, I think as long as the matches are up people can rate themselves.
Personally, I would say the greatest focus right now should be adding some of the most current new matches. I don't know what you're working on right, but definitely anything for the current we were talking about earlier in the thread.
Added new polls (please vote). Added gsltl3 matches for days 1 and 2

I'm getting them up, but it sucks having all the matches spoiled for me when I add things. On the other hand, I add so many matches, I don't always remember who won/lost each one.
On May 19 2011 03:31 Koibu0 wrote: Added new polls (please vote). Added gsltl3 matches for days 1 and 2
Great, I think this is a step in the right direction.
Capital Ships: Good, in whatever form they appear Nukes: Yes, definitely. Don't see them that much Base Trade: Definitely good idea Match Length: Good idea to have estimate for time commitment to watch series, especially if it is a Bo7 Crazy Micro: Definitely something to look for Dance: Funny, but I don't think I have ever seen this happen in any game. If it has, I need to see some more games then O.o Both Armies Maxed: I think I missed voted on this option, but atleast for the Zerg player it's pretty easy to get maxed out. One Sided: Good, like applying to GSL May.
Some of the other ideas I had were: Nydus Worm, Ultralisk, Archons, Dark Templar, Plantary Fortress Rushing, Stalemate....I'll come back and think of others.

Like I said before, I'm happy to help adding matches and tournaments, it sounds like a lot of work to do by yourself. I know you said before that you want the site to be more stable, but if there are much more tournaments happening I would be glad to be step in to have the site get more coverage.
@LotsofLuck What you say and what you vote seem to be opposite...
And I'm not ready to have somebody else poking around on the input side. When that time comes, I'll post it here, but don't expect it for a long while.
PF rushing doesn't really ever happen at the pro level. I can't think of a match, but stalemate (or near stalemate) is a good idea. As for dancing, it happens a lot in the GSL TL. In every season I think. I know I've seen it this season twice, and I think it was the finals of the first season it was in 3 or 4 games back to back.

Eh, I may have burned through those pretty fast. Oh well.

Aight, I'll stop asking then

Well that would be my problem, I haven't been watching much of any of the GSL TLs.
GSL Team League 3 has finished, and all the matches are up online. Go rate them!
Also, tonight I'll start adding in all the match info for the GSL Super Tournament.
Lastly, I've been getting some good questions and recommendations from people emailing me directly (the contact form on the site), but in the famous words of Johny 5, "Need more input". Don't be shy now. Post it in this thread, PM me, email me directly, but don't be too timid to share your ideas.
Started Visual Overhaul Phase 1: completed - rewrite all the css with sass, basic simplification of classes and scripts. Phase 2: started - reposition elements, redefine the color pallet, total simplification of classes and scripts. Phase 3: outstanding - new icons, images, and banners
Finished up HDWT. Don't have a winner yet, but I'll check it out tonight and add that in. Added imagery for HDWT as well.
This week is going to be super slow in terms of updates (aside from adding vods and winners to the existing tournaments) because I'm getting pretty slammed at work. Have no fear though, there's a lot going on behind the scenes.
Minor updates Fixed all the broken names for players Implemented a way to find broken player names reliably These in turn have corrected errors in the stats of a few players.
Moderate update: Groups now display the average score of all the matches in the heading. For example, in SlayerS Vs. MVP, we now see it has an average score of 3.7.
This way, you can kind of get an idea of how good the matches within the group (hidden by the spoiler tags) are. The current problem is that one or two bad games can really bring down an excellent group: Again with the SlayerS vs MVP from GSL TL3. Amazing set, totally worth watching, but averages out at 3.7. :/
Looks good, guess I need to start watching more of the Team leagues.
For the player database, are you manually keeping track of those wins & loses, or do you have something that updates for you? I would personally focus more on the tournaments, but the player stats is interesting....
When I'm adding a new tournament, into one database I enter the players real names, user names, and race. If the person (real name) doesn't already exist in the database, an entry for that person is automatically created.
So now we have all the 'Users' in one table, which relates to the 'Players' in another. Then we go in and add each match, filling out info such as: Player 1, player 2, winner, etc. Those first 3 fields, look up the 'User', which is how we get their race.
When we look at a player page, for example MC, we look up the 'player' of that 'user'. Then we find all the 'users' that are related to that 'player'. [single user] => [player] => [all users]
Still with me? Now we search our table of matches for all instances of player1 or player2 having any of those user names (that wasn't cancelled). Each time they win a match, we add 1 to their match count against that race, and one to their win count. against that race. Each time their opponent won a match, we add+1 to their total match count against that race. That way we don't count matches that haven't been played yet, or a winner hasn't been reported yet.
From there it's just simple math: wins / (total games - wins)
Now that I think about it, I probably could have just said, "I have a script that does it for me". The point is, it's all done behind the scenes and calculated on the fly every time you load the page. That keeps the number of fields in the tables down, and keeps all the logic behind calculating and displaying this information in one area.
Now that I'm recording player stats, it seems to me that I should add as many tournaments as possible, even if I can't find all (or any) of the vods. I mean, if you look at TLO's record, it's really really sad: 3 and 6? He's a better player than that, he's just under represented because I mostly have Korean tournaments. Maybe with this 3 day weekend coming up, I'll be able to add in a ton of stuff.

Great, I like Black boxes as well. Just making sure you're cutting down on the stuff you have to add manually.
If you are keeping track of players, you might want to eventually add a search for them as well. But yes, I like the idea of adding more tournaments. :D
Hahaha, funny you should mention that. Update Added a search function for players.
You can search by real name and user name. As things progress, it will become more sophisticated, but I'd wanted to get the bare bones functionality out right now.
Definitely some of the IPL Qualifers, or the EG Masters.
On another note, I think you may have gotten the schedule for the Ro64 GSL Super Tournament on May 28th. Here are the matches that were correct for the day:
Added EG Master's Cup Series 5 (up to current week)
The format of this is very different, so it doesn't look as smooth on the page Also, there are lots of missing vods on the the EG page, so I'm missing many vods too.
Because of the odd formating, it's a pain in the ass to add more matches for this tournament, so I might not be as on top of the updates with this as I am with other tournaments.
That's fine, I'm not really watching the EG Master's Cup
I do like the changes from IPL to Other, this allows for other tournaments without having to screw around with graphics. It is a bit of temporary fix, as you have "All Tournmanets" and "Other" pointing to the same link....this is definitely something you can play around with when you talk to a graphic designer....

I was making so much progress, but then my girlfriend got back from Scotland, and there went the rest of my weekend =p She's promised to help with some data entry and stuff, which is totally rad.
As for "other" pointing to the same spot as "all tournaments", the logic behind it to make it show non NASL, GSL and TSL would be more messy than I'd like. Do you think it's a bad to have it point to All? When you see other, but it actually goes to All, is that frustrating or annoying? I mean, if it's actually annoying, I'll put in the work to get the logic right.
I'm pretty frustrated with a lot of these tournaments not having vods for everything, or even most things. It really kind of breaks what I set out to do here.

wOw, that's great! You sir, have an Awesome girlfriend. :D
Yea, not having VODs for anything kind of screws up a lot of the purpose of this website.
I don't think it is frustrating when you click Other it goes to all tournaments. I think people see there's more tournaments other then the main ones on the front page.
new tournmanets hosted by GeForce, casted with Day9 & Husky, Pro & Amatuer levels, something like $20,000 prize pool (and computers for winning, pretty cool!)
I know this goes under the "better searching" plans for the future, but one thing you might consider for the ranking page, is to set an interval for how recently you want matches to display. The top list is great and all, but you have to get a little creative to see highly rated matches that already haven't been rated as amazing. Some of the TSL matches are great (and they are free :D), but it would be great to have an option to search for matches that have been played in the past week, 2 weeks, month, or whatever to give people a better ability to seek out good matches. Right now the top list serves as a Hall of Fame to the best matches, but that means it will stay pretty stagnant.
One of the plans is for people who are signed to have an option to not show matches they've already rated on the top list. That way, it's always a top list of games you haven't seen. This would be an easily toggle-able option, so you can always go back to the full list.
Along with this would be an option to only show matches from seasons which are free, or that you have a subscription too. In your profile you'd select which seasons / tournaments you've got a subscription of, and then in the top list (or whatever sorting mechanism we end up having) you can filter by that too.
Date would be a good thing to have in there as well, so I'll put in in for sure. I'm really excited about many of these features, but I'm just super swamped at work and with other activities now. I was in the office for 11 hours today, will be tomorrow, and then I'm sure I'll have to do at least 4 on Sat as well.
In other good news, I've had a chat with the guy running sc2brackets.com and we've worked something out so we'll have the brackets from their site up on sc2ratings.com as well :D :D :D
So, after another one of my patented ramblings where I jump topics quickly, there's a lot coming out soon... I just gotta find the time to make it happen.
This is EXACTLY the sort of thing I was hoping existed! Good luck keeping on top of all the insane quantity of content being produced!
It may be useful to add a category called "notable" for games that may or may not be well played, but are interesting in some other way (as an example, IdrA v Huk @ MLG was well-watched for the BM, not the play).
Update Match sorting (aka Top List) now has the ability to remove matches you've rated from the list. I've also removed the sum of votes sort, because it seemed pretty lame.
Started framework for disabling seasons you don't have a subscription to. When that goes in, date will also go in (both require joining tables, so I'll do it all at the same time).

That is a horrible idea. There are lots of people who hate on casters because they don't like their style and they will gladly vote "bad" whenever they see the names of those casters. On the other hand while there are far more people that like those casters, the fans (or better "not-haters") are far less likely to vote... so basically every match will end up as "bad/boring caster".
Also, you should mark matches as "not played", for example some of the Games of Artosis in the NASL.

I don't know if there's a more elegant way to do implement this, but the box for which page number you would be on was a a little confusing to me. I don't know if there is a way you can see up a dynamic way to look at difference forum page numbers, but that seems like it would make more sense they just using the box.
Eh, in th end that's probably one of those to stick on the laundry list of what to do next though.

Couldn't agree more. There are some casters out there that I don't particularly like, but for the most part I'll watch games all the same. Let's not turn this into a hate-fest. :D
Excited about the brackets, that should help tons!

Right now, if you're logged in, it says "Match not yet played" in the voting area (where a person not logged in sees "login to vote"), but I don't see why I couldn't have that show up across the board too. I'll get to it later today.

Yeah, the page thing is pretty dumb. I've removed it until I have a better implementation. For now, if you want to display more matches, just change the number of matches box to 50 or something. :/
But this is why I ask for feedback, because you guys have good criticisms! This is one of the few instances where somebody is asking you to tell them how they're doing things wrong, so why are you all holding back?
New Poll: Rage Quit / BM - For things like the Huk / IdrA game. I really hesitate on calling it "BM" because what I'm looking to cover by this rating is things where somebody get pissed and makes a horrible mistake as a result of it. Like quitting when they see a fleet of hallucinated void rays, or tapping out because they thought they didn't have any more works and no town hall (when there was really one lying about somewhere).
New Poll: Lag / Pauses - When the vod is super long because of large amounts of lag / game needs to be paused or restarted. Think Incontrol vs Losira (probably still going on whenever you're reading this). Applied to games that are delayed by > 3 minutes. + Show Spoiler +
What is the best way to link to the MLG vods? Perhaps better stated, is it acceptable to use the links from here, and just tell people they need to open it as a URL from VLC or something?
Looking for a few volunteers to help flesh out the profile information. Currently we're tracking just over 200 players, and they need certain data populated: Country, birthday and link to TL profile (liquipedia page).
It's super simple cut and paste, so if you want to help out, PM me and I'll make you a Mod* so you can edit the information (after a brief chat so I can get to know you a little better.)
*Being a mod infers no extra goodies, nor does it grant access to any back end information or properties, aside from the page to edit player information.

I think it could be neat if you added some comments feature to each game so people could discuss the games.
I've been thinking about it, but I don't want to have to moderate pages and pages of comments, and I want to keep everything spoiler free.
If I just ban people from comments if they spoil, or are jerks, then they could make a new account to get back in the comments, and then they'll end up double rating stuff, which is bad. If I can find a solution to the spam/troll/spoiler problem that permits comments, I will add them in, but so far I haven't figured it out.
P.S. I'm open to suggestions. Please feel free to discuss here.
Event - This Sunday, the 12th, at 10:00am PDT I will be holding an open Skype call to discuss some features and their implementations. It going to be a fairly short (1/2 hour to an hour) casual chat about a way to have comments without spoilers, trolls, or spam (or even if having a comments section would be good) and the best way to implement extra parameters to rate matches on.
It's going to be pretty small, and pretty informal, but everybody is invited. If you want in, PM me and I'll see you get added to the call.
New Feature sc2ratings.com has been working with sc2brackets.com for the last week to bring you some cross site compatibility. All the GSL seasons, as well as MLG, NASL, TSL, and IPL now have the beautiful tournament brackets created by the very talented folks at sc2brackets.com.
You can see it live on the GLS 6 page, and then go and take a look at the compelling bracket game going on at sc2brackets.
Sorry to be spamming this thread so hard, it just so happens that a lot of things happened to be coming to fruition today.
Feature Update The Top List, our mechanism for sorting and finding matches, has now been updated to include the ability to search by race!
Soon to come, search by name! (will be similar to the current "player finder", but instead do a blanket list for all their matches, ordered by best rated match, rather than put into groups by tournament. Also will not show stats)
Tell your friends, and you can find us on facebook, or follow us on twitter @sc2ratings
Update Fixed a bug that would prevent you from staying logged in longer than 20minutes.

Distribution of votes Score of 1: 338 - 8.86% Score of 2: 539 - 14.12% Score of 3: 961 - 25.18% Score of 4: 1131 - 29.64% Score of 5: 847 - 22.20% Top 10% of matches have a score of: 4.4000 Top 50% of matches have a score of: 3.4444 Top 90% of matches have a score of: 2.0000
As you can see, an 'average' match is a 3.4, and a really good match is a 4.4+. I've updated the color coding system to reflect this new data: 1 < Red < 2 < Black < 3.44 < Blue < 4.4 < Green < 5
Periodically I'll check these numbers, and if they change, I'll change the color coding system to reflect this. I'm also thinking about changing it to top 15% are green and bottom 15% are red, so that might happen sometime too.
djWheat mentioned sc2ratings.com in the lastest Weapon of Choice (6/12/2011) podcast start around 40:40 into the podcast. I'll let you listen to the whole thing, but the majors point he touched on where:
-the more people use the site, the better it will become -djWheat would like having a 1-10 scale as opposed to a 1-5 scale, to give the scorer more choice and ability to accurately score the game. His argument was there's a big difference between a 4/5 and a 7/10.
Thoughts: -Great, more publicity is always great :D, although it sounded like when djWheat mentioned in on the stream, the site was down, either due to overload your bandwidth, or just down for maintenance...
-Scoring system: While I can see djWheat's point about 7-10 gives more flexibly, how do/would we re-structure the scoring to take into account the current system. Would all 1,2,3,4,5 become 2,4,6,8,10 respectively? This is definitely something that we can poll about, but if you want to make that change I would do it sooner rather then later to avoid confusion.
Also, something that isn't such a half bad idea is you could try calling into Weapon of Choice/emailing him & see what question he would like to see on sc2ratings in the future. The worst thing that happens is he doesn't respond, and you are no worse off them you started

This is something I've gone back and forth on a lot. To be honest, the deciding factor was space: at the time the layout was so bulky as to not permit having 10 voting icons in a row, but it might be able to handle it.

Sorry for being unclear, and thanks for bringing it to my attention.
You dear sir are my hero. Thank you very much! I have one question though, is it intentional that there is no "mark as seen" option for vods? Is it to encourage people to vote instead?
I really appreciate your work and have been trying to give my feedback to you at multiple previous occasions. I really hope that your site will grow and become the go-to place for all SC2 VOD viewers.
When I read about the clever color coding a few posts up, I was pleasantly surprised. That is a very smart way of doing it and not restrict yourself to divide the colors in integer steps. Perhaps you can also introduce a "least number of votes" limit on the colors. One vote is not enough to rate the match in my opinion.
I was also happy to hear DJ Wheat advertise your site. But I must strongly disagree with his argument for having a 1-10 scale. Here are my arguments:
- A 5-step rating is common in other contexts, such as star rating of hotels and is therefore naturally intuitive to use.
- As you mentioned in your post, the layout for 10 buttons would be very cumbersome to layout efficiently.
- There is no one optimal way of transferring the old ratings to the new system.
- Finally, a matter that also DJ Wheat himself touch upon is that, the current scale effectively have 50 steps! That is due to the decimal increments between the integers. Accuracy is therefore not a problem!
So therefore I urge you to carefully reconsider before changing the rating system.
Good luck with the development of the site and I will continue to give my feedback.

I just haven't built out that implementation yet. It will be rolled out when I finish making up the profile and preferences pages and databases. The project is slow going since I can only work on it in my free time.

Interesting idea. I'll put a poll up about it. How many votes do you think should be required before color coding?

Thank you having a well stated and thought out argument. That is a rare and precious quality online. I'll take this into consideration when reviewing the poll data.
This is a really cool idea but please please please do something about the huge unstylized text on the home page; it looks really unprofessional. For a site that otherwise looks so good, it looks very out of place. Also, the top rated doesn't work for me for some reason - something about an SQL error.

As far as I know the site is in the process of getting a visual face lift. However, I'd say it's pretty impressive for what one dude has accomplished so far.
Hmmm, do you have the actual error for the top rated? Was it for accessing the page itself or doing a specific search?
Both - it displays the search bars and options, but where it would display the results it says,
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') GROUP BY matchId HAVING COUNT(matchId) >= 3 ORDER BY AVG(score)' at line 3"
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') GROUP BY matchId HAVING COUNT(matchId) >= 3 ORDER BY AVG(score)' at line 3"
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. It was an issue where the sorting querry was looking for the matches that you had rated, so it could not display those matches, but when you weren't logged in, there were no matches to not display, and it got confused.
Should be fixed now. If it's not, please let me know, either here, or through the "contact us" form on the site.

New Features You can now bookmark matches! To do so, go into the match details ( the little + on the left of the match ), and check the bookmark option! Bam!
Feature Added Added a profile / preferences page. From here you can change your password, and you can check off which seasons you have a subscription to. When you check off which seasons you have a subscription to, they show up as green (instead of red) so you can easily see which matches in the Top List you can watch, and which ones are unavailable.
Planned: Do not show matches that aren't free / you have a subscription to in the top list.
Feature Update Search can hide seasons that you don't have a subscription to. To mark what seasons you do have a subscription to, go to your profile and check the boxes.

I do like the simple set-up, but it would be an added benefit to know as a end user that the subscription choices are saved -Could you try to put the the selections either on one line, or list them? Right now the submit button is all the way over on the left side, I think it would be better on the right, after you made your selections...
Also, is it just me or did all the spoiler tags break on the front page?
Anyways sir, keep up the good work. I'll make sure to add more players soon...
Looks too biased, for the GSTL FXO/ST series at least; the 2 matches the foreigners won are both rated higher than 3.5, while all the games they lost are less than 3. What exactly was so amazing about the Sheth vs Tiger series? Tiger sat on two bases forever and had terrible decisions. Oz against Curious? He made units, attacked and won with good FFs.

Good point, I'll figure something out.

Are you talking about the Top List? I need to find some way to shorten up the text on that last option. I want everything to be on one line, but it wont all fit
Open to ideas on how to shorten those option labels.
A small annoyance: the voting is not up in time for the live stream of the GSL. I want to vote right after the games are broadcasted. My suggestion is to enable voting earlier or program a timer that turns them on at the time of the broadcast.

Hmmm, GSL used to be later in the day which meant voting was ready, but now that it's so early (1300 KST) it's causing problems. The way I have things running now is that voting for matches becomes available on the day the matches are to be broadcast. So if there's a match on the 30th of June, you can vote for it on the 30th. This becomes a problem when the matches are in a different time zone.
Korean time is 16 hours ahead of the local (PDT) time, so voting should become enabled at 1600 KST - 3 hours after the start of the broadcast.
*****(Just thinking aloud here)*****
I'll see if I can't set up something special for GSL Matches, that they become available 3 hours earlier.
Thanks for bringing this up, I hadn't thought about the problem with the earlier match time.
[edit] I think I've fixed this, but we wont know for certain until tonight. Can you let me know how it works out (I wont be around for the GSL tonight)

It doesn't work for GSL July Code A as of right now, 1500 KST. Two of today's BO3 matches has already been played. (Can recommend Leenock vs YoDa).
Koibu0, we might need to start getting up and ready for the GeForce Starcraft II Pro/AM Tournament, (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=229020).
They do have a schedule on the main website (http://geforce.cevo.com/event/geforce-starcraft-2-pro-am/schedule/), but I've been trying to find VODs and it's a little difficult.
There's a typo on their schedule. The pro bracket doesn't start until August 4th, and the qualifiers don't have videos up, so I think I'll just do the bracket (upper and lower).
I've been playing in the amateur bracket, but have gotten walkovers every round.

Ok, well atleast we should put the Bomber vs. Destiny series up. That was EPIC!
Got a bunch of player / caster / back scene interviews. If I can get the films edited down to something useful and nice, I'll be posting them on the site. :D
However, this is my first time doing interviews, so forgive me if they're terrible.
EVERYBODY at NASL was great. The guys working there were great, and really put forth an amazing effort, working around the clock.
Seeing as sc2ratings.com will now be having interviews and possibly event coverage (maybe, we'll see), I am looking into doing an overhaul and re-branding of the whole site. All the additional things will take second place to the ratings sections, so all that will really be changing is the domain name, styling, and the addition of new pages.
This wont be happening for a while, but when it does, it will signal the end of beta!
I thought I'd just let everybody know what's in the works.
I forgot about this site it is such a good tool especially since there are so many good tournaments going on atm it is hard to keep up with all the ones that are going on atm. THXs
I've been super busy with work, my 9-5, as well as a few side projects that have cropped up, as well as going out of town a lot, so sc2ratings.com has taken a bit of a hit. I know IPL2 just started, and I don't have all the links up for matches, EG Master's Cup stuff hasn't been updated in weeks, and I haven't gotten the after hours gaming league up at all. On top of that, I got a whole bunch of interviews with players, casters, and staff from NASL last weekend, but haven't had a chance to put it online yet (I'm fairly inept at video editing).
I'm sorry for being so behind on stuff, but I will get back on track as soon as I get back into town on Sunday. Cool stuff happening this weekend (some sc2 stuff that will help us out down the road).
Feature Announcement Friday (hopefully) I'll be posting the first of many interviews I gathered while at the NASL finals. The video quality isn't amazing, nor is the audio, but the content is pretty good. I've learned a lot from these first interviews, so any that I can get at MLG will be much better (I hope).
Our first two interviews will be with: 1) Gretorp 2) Duncan and Yrsa (two NASL staff that you've never heard of, but really should)
I think you have a great website and it's a shame that there are not more votes on the games. I think if you started making live report threads and including this in the recommended games section then a lot more people will start using it. You should get the matches updated as they are being played so people can vote on games right away from the live report threads. It's just getting the ball rolling that is the hard part imo.

I agree with this. Once it picks up I can see it really being put to great use.
Btw nice meeting you at NASL, didn't have a chance to check this out till now!

Still no fix for not being able to vote "live" for the GSL!
If there is a problem with the GSL being played on Korea time and the web server being on US time, I think you should enable voting one day earlier for all matches rather than having all the GSL matches being late.

There's a good idea. You might not want to do it TOO far in advance so that people don't preemptively vote how the series was before the game has even started....
Site has switched to a new server which, hopefully, can accommodate the increase in traffic. Unfortunately, we're experiencing issues with mailing services, so for now I've disabled registration and the contact form. They'll come back as soon as I get the mailing service running.

It's fixed! Thank's a lot!
I have another suggestion. How about automatically hide spoiler blockers for games which you have already voted for? (Both the match and the winner.)

That's a really good idea. I hadn't even though about that. I'll put that in right now! [Edit] OK, that's more complicated than I thought. I'ma do it later. But it's a great idea.
Still having problems with our mail servers, but I'm going to re-enable registration. It may take a few days for the registration email to get to you though
Hey everybody, sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been working 10-14 hour days, and had a few personal issues to take care of. I'm out of town for the next week and a half, but I think I've got somebody to help update the site while I'm gone.
When I come back, hopefully work will have died down enough that I can really start to bust some new content, and fix things. In the mean time, enjoy the service, and help everybody out by rating the matches you watch!
VODS are will be free to view for 48 hours, starting Sept 3rd 0200 PST (1900 KST, 1100 CET). Now you can check out those awesome games that you couldn't see before
We have come a long way since Open Season 1 and would like to sincerely thank everyone for their continuous support and hope we were able to provide everyone with enjoyable e-sports content for the past year.
In order to celebrate our first anniversary with all of you we have planned a variety of events and also prepared a special present for everyone. You will be able to find everything you need to know about our anniversary events on our official event page. Here's a little teaser:
GSL for free! All GSL VODs will be free for 48 hours! Yes, that means every VOD of every GSL match that has been played to date. Do not miss out on this opportunity to catch all those games you've always wanted to watch but didn't have the ticket for.
Start Time: September 3rd 19:00 KST, 11:00 CET, 02:00 PST End Time: September 5th 19:00 KST, 11:00 CET, 02:00 PST
Please note: Our VOD servers are able to handle a large number of connections. We would however like to ask for your understanding in case any unforeseen technical difficulties should arise.
Hey, know how all the shows were badly out of date? Now they're not :D
Go watch your favorite SC2 shows, and then go rate how good each episodes are. As a reminder, we're tracking State of the Game, the Day9 Daily, and Weapon of Choice.
Heads up: Live on 3 soon to be added.
Can you think of any other shows that we should track?
1) Front page now shows the matches that are playing today. Easy way to find what to watch today :D 2) Profile page has a visual to tell you when you're subscriptions are saved. No need to click a button (wasn't obvious before but has always worked that way).
Did an initial pass through every player in the database to update their Birthday, Country, and TL profile. There are a few players who have missing birthdays, and I'll do another pass sometime down the road to get that information from the bowels of the internet.
Every few months I'll do a full sweep to see if the players missing TL profiles have them.
The infrastructure is there for player's twitter information, so hopefully we'll get that in there too.
Removed SC2 Brackets links -> So we've out grown our partnership with sc2brackets. / We track more tournaments than they do, which wasn't much of a problem until they started falling behind on tournaments, and we started adding more that they didn't have. So, sadly, rather than a few select tournaments having links, we're just going to axe the connection. Our analytics shows it wasn't used much either.
Changed We've changed all the 'normal' links to a shade of green. This color will probably change again soon. The idea is that most major repeating tournaments have their own color assigned to them (for easy recognition), and up till now, tournaments that were small enough / non repeating (e.g. HDWT) were just using the default, which was GSL orange. This is a throw back to when the site was called gslrankings. Anyway, to keep GSL having it's orange color, all the other links were moved to green. But it's not a pretty green, so it'll probably change again soon. TLDR: All links are green. Big tournaments get their own color, and GSL get the orange that used to be normal links.
Updated NASL season 1 links have all been updated to the new (and hopefully permanent) link.
Fixed: Match up searching. Previously, it was taking the input you provided, and looking for that player's name exactly. This means, if you searched for Boxer, you wouldn't get games where he was under the name SlayerS_BoxeR. Well, now that's fixed. Searching for Boxer will return any game in which somebody has those five letters in a row.
:D :D Much easier to find that game you were looking for (like, say, Boxer vs Avenge).
Moved servers! This time it's a good one (or so it looks). Time to start the hype machine back up.
By the way, if you don't have an account, and don't rate, there actually is a good (read: self serving) reason to do it. The "find a vod" page will automatically hide matches you've already seen, so if you look at that page, it will always show the hightest rated matches you haven't seen :D

Its super useful. I use it all the time. =p
It is a shame though that at the moment the amount of voters is so low that the results are unreliable, even though I tend to agree with most of them. In BW this was much simpler because there wasn't so much going on at once. SC2 has Korea EU NA. And all the tournaments that go along with it. Hopefully this explodes though cuz I'm tired of watching crap matches.
Also, in other news, we're just about out of beta. When we're out (in a week or so), we'll have a brand new theme, which is going to be a HUGE change to the visuals. The core will stay the same, but it'll get a nice big make over. :D :D
There should be little to no lag, although something seems to have happened with our searching in the upgrade, and we're having some problem doing searches by races. That's been disabled until I can get it fixed.
I really think this has the ability to become a central resource, as long as people contribute. If you like the concept, use it. Log in and rate matches, even if you only rate a few things. If every body that made an account rated a few games a week, we'd be overflowing with ratings.
We can provide the method, but it's up to you guys to make it happen <3 <3
Of course you do interviews!! Come on, who doesn't want to hear you talk about your adventures with barcraft! You're a significant mover and shaker that doesn't get enough credit.
Not sure how that would screw up the design, but is it possible for the VODs to be embedded instead of linking? It will facilitate voting if the viewer stays on sc2ratings.
I've thought about it... but I'd rather not embed videos that belong to others. I don't want GOM or MLG calling me up saying "You're taking users away from our site". I think there's some legal ground I'd be crossing.
But it would be awesome! And it wouldn't get in the way all that much, we could just open the VOD in a light box or something.
Do you have an API (json or xml etc) available I would like to make a Firefox plugin that adds a rating button directly to the GomTV.net website. If you don't have one it would be great if you would consider making one available.

Maybe just have the VOD link open to a new tab? I often find myself forgetting to vote. Out of sight, out of mind.

One of the problems we face when adding Team games is that unless one of us is watching the game live, we can't update the site with the players until the next morning when we do our updates. This is unavoidable for the time being (as the number of people updating the site with content numbers 2, and we're both super busy), so please understand why there are ???? for some current matches in IPL TAC 1

Yeah. Pretty sure I was shooting myself in the face at that point.
I mean, you have a rating system setup for StarCraft-related VODs, and you produce some StarCraft-related VODs (interviews) on the side. Shouldn't your interviews have its own listings on sc2ratings too?
<shame>Yes... but our interviews aren't ready yet. Once they're ready, the interview page will show up. We're going to have interviews on player profile pages as well, and maybe not just our own. </shame>

Ok cool. When saw "find a vod" I thought it would be more of searching for say any Match between Marine King and Nestea.
When I look at the opening menu, I want it to behave like music player where I can sort by artist, rating, song title. Similarly, I'd love it if I could sort the matches by rating, league, matchup, stage in league, players, etc.
FireFox Addon: nekoconeco has offered to build a firefox addon for SC2Ratings, meaning that when you're viewing a VOD that we have in our system (if you're at the official page), you should be able to see its ratings, and submit your ratings.
This sounds totally awesome, and helps get to what we want to do in the end, which is be integrated with every major tournament. This feature is currently in development, which is why you might see a new field on your profile, called Token.
Anyway, just thought I'd give you guys a heads up, and something to look forward to. :D :D
Let's give nekoconeco a nice big round of applause, and a hearty 'Thank You'!
I don't know... I'll talk to Nekoconeco, see if he can port something to chrome. If not, I can try to learn how to do it. After all, I taught myself everything to build SC2Ratings, I should be able to learn how to build addons.
Update: First iteration of the firefox plugin is working! :D We're going to hold off on publishing it until its perfect though. Just thought I'd give you all an update.
Still missing the 6th player for groups A and C. I've put up all of Group A that is on GOM now, just incase they don't announce it tonight, there will be something to rate.
If they don't announce the last player for group C, I'll put it up before group C goes live.

Me too.
Can the title of a show have a "New" Icon whenever a new show appears?
Also In the show listings, from now on, can the date they were broadcasted be added?
That would be cool for games too, to add the date they were played, to have more value later on when someone is looking at the data base. "Oh, this is a game from last month".
So basically I am saying that adding the date to each event would be great. Thanks for all of this!
The date for games already exists - click on the little + to the left of the match. That should expand it and give you some more information. (I do need to find a way to make that function more apparent :/)
Dates for shows is something I've gone back and forth on. What it really boils down to, is a lack of room on the page. If we add a date, some shows (like the Day[9] daily) wont have room for all the content. Some shows don't have titles for their episodes, so we're just using the date.
I would love some more feedback on this though. That is to say, if you can think of a way to do it elegantly, let me know.
[Edit] Oh, and about the 'new' icon. That's a good idea. I'll start experimenting with ways to do that best [/Edit]

Moletrap sat down with us at NASL 1 finals after everything was over for a few minutes. We might have been interrupted by somebody part way though who tried to strike up a conversation with him, but I think that only made it more fun.
[Update] Added a username for members. When you log in for the first time, you'll need to submit a username. We'll use this down the line for some more social interactions we're building :D
For now, you can login with either your email or username.
[n]Update[/b[ FFExtension further improved :D We're basically done with it, but just have to make sure everything works right, and part of the team has been out on holiday. Expect it soon (blizzard time) though :D :D
Update So, one of the things we're adding to the site is an interface so users can write reviews of matches. Other users will be able to comment on and +/- the reviews.
This will not be a forum, but rather a place where people with a keen eye for the game and solid writing abilities to have a place to post their analysis. With the +/- system, the better reviews will rise to the top, giving talented individuals a place to make a name for themselves.
More details as things progress, but I can say that we'll start out with some pretty strict moderation. If things go well, we may relax the moderation.
As of now, we're about 10% done with the development of this feature.
Progress has been made on adding user reviews. We've got a super rough layout, the ability to write and display reviews, and the ability to display comments (but not write them). Of course, we're still looking at 3 or 4 more weeks of development time until everything is finished, and ready for use, but we are chugging away at it.
Going into crunch mode at the day job. Updates and development will be all but non existent for the rest of the week. Of course, we'll keep updating with VOD links and winners/losers of current tournaments
In response to GOMTV making GSL Open seasons 1-3 permanently free to everybody, we will be taking some time in the next week or so to go back and add all those seasons to SC2Ratings.
Those games probably wont hold up today, but I remember some of them being pretty sweet in their time.
We are done developing the reviews system, and comments on reviews.
Now we are working on moderation, and the +/- system for reviews and comments. Due to the delays of last week, it looks like we've slowed down enough to be right back on schedule. If we can pick the pace back up, we should be done in 2 weeks. Then give us a week for testing and tweaking. I'll make a big fuss when we're ready to go live.
One of the things we're doing with this new reviews and comments (comments on reviews. not on matches.) system, is having a reddit like rating system. You can vote + or - on a review or comment. Theses votes will give (or take) reputation. We're still working out what it is we want reputation to do, but until then, people will just accumulate it.
A few ideas we're tossing about: 1) All users gain reputation over time, even if they don't have anything that is + or -. That way, somebody that lurks for long period of time still has some credit over a newb. There are problems with this idea, but we're working on it.
2) If a comment/review requires moderation on the part of the staff (for being inappropriate) that user will lose reputation. There will be many levels of moderation: warnings, 5 day bans, 10 day bans, etc. We will not have a perma ban system (because that's really quite silly), and each level will have its own amount of reputation damage. If you get warned for a post, you might only lose a point or two. If you get a 30 day ban for something, you'll probably lose a lot of points. Again, this is in the works and has a bunch of problems we're trying to work out.

Reviews update We've finished the basic functionality. Writing reviews, writing comments, editing reviews, and the full flow of moderation surrounding that has been finished.
What's next? The + / - voting system for reviews and comments. This shouldn't be too hard to implement. After that? Searching for reviews, sorting reviews, finding reviews by a specific user. And then? Point system for reviews and comments. Only after these things have been done will we launch everything. We're still a ways out, but we're getting closer.
Update on Reviews So, everything is in place to write and see reviews! In fact, it's all live right now. What we're missing is a solid way of sorting through them. As it is, you can see reviews for a given match by expanding the match info (see below)
What we're working on now is adding a way of searching and sorting reviews. You should be able to sort through reviews by: Author (working, but not live on site) Date written Highest / Lowest rated Tournament
You can sort reviews by: Date posted Date updated Highest/Lowest Score
And you can also see reviews for any given season or user (click on the "reviews" link on a season page, or on somebody's username)
Still, reviews work, and you can comment on them and everything.
User reviews are a way for people to write up their thoughts on a specific match, with the idea that they will be enlightening other people with their knowledge. If you want to know what happened in the Idra vs MC game, but can't watch it because you're at work/school, you can read the review somebody wrote on the match. Yes, there are other reviews other places on the internet, but not quite nearly as organized as this.
Also, we now have a TOS and posting guidelines. (-_-) <--- not excited by this. In general, we'll have fairly strict moderation for people being jerks. If you're writing something unpopular, that's fine. Want to say the best game ever was terrible? Go for it. Want to tell the author he's wrong? Knock yourself out. Want to be a dick to the author? No. Bad.
Moderation will have 2 parts: 1) Temp bans 2) Reputation penalties
Temp bans are obvious. You cannot write reviews or comments for a period of x days. (you can still rate stuff, and do everything else).
Reputation penalties are a little more complicated. As you write content (be it reviews, or comments), and if you are active on the site (judging by frequency of login), you will accrue reputation. When your content gets downvoted, you lose reputation. When your content gets moderated (you get warned / temp ban), you lose reputation. (more on reputation later)
How do you write a review? Click on the + to the left of a match. See the link to "Write a review"? No? Log in and try again. Now do you see it? Good. Click on it. Tada! Write away.
I want to format my text! How come there's no text formatting? We're holding an internal discussion on text formatting. It may come, it may not.
Why can't I edit my comments? It is the belief of SC2Ratings that allowing people to unwrite things leads to confusion and sloppy commenting. You write something chalk full of typos? Well, now you're known as the guy who writes chalk full of typos. Take some more time next time.
What if I write something, and then seconds later I realize that I was being an idiot We're looking into the best way for users to redact statements, without destroying the integrity of the thread. It will come.
This sounds pretty incomplete... Not really. The core functionality is built out. Our dev team is small, and we're so busy things, that it takes a while to do stuff, so we thought it'd be better to give you 80% of things, and then throw on bells and whistles as we go along.
Remember when I said more on reputation later? That's now. What is reputation? Well, reputation is a point based system, much akin to something like Reddit's Karma.
What does reputation do for you? Right now it doesn't do anything. We're waiting until everything is worked out before we start adding in what it does. Any upvotes/downvotes/moderation that happens now will be applied to reputation in the future.
One thing I want to make very clear - Rating content, be it matches, shows, reviews or comments, will not accrue reputation. Ever. The only way for your reputation to go up, is for you to contribute content, and for you to visit often.
How do I game the system to get the most reputation possible? Write good stuff. You can try to keep up by visiting all the time, but that will only get you so far.
So, if I visit every day, I'll get more reputation than somebody that visits only once a week, if that's all we do? Not daily. The current thinking (and this can change) is that you'll get reputation for weekly visits.
This reputation for visiting frequently sounds super lame. You're just trying to get people to come to your site all the time! Well, yes and no. The idea is that somebody who has been lurking for a year should have a higher status than somebody who made an account a year ago, but this is only his 2nd time logging in, so he's not as active as the lurker (who may not be contributing content reviews / comments, but may be contributing ratings).
Well, then you should give reputation for people actually doing stuff, like rating things! No. That's dumb. Having rated something doesn't mean you are contributing meaningful content. I could rate 5000 things in one day if I just submit random ratings.
So, tell me again, how do I gain reputation? Being upvoted, and visiting the site. That's it.
And what does it get me? Right now, nothing. Eventually, users with higher reputation will get more privileges. Avatars, custom site skins, highlighted reviews, moderation privileges... all possible.
How do I see my reputation? It's not finished being built. We'll let you know when it is.
This site is really well done and a pretty good idea, but sadly like nobody uses it, and it isn't nearly as fun (as in i would use it but i don't) due to the limited participants TT maybe sponsoring some big show or something would be good for notoriety because too much good work is spent into this for naught TT

Yes and no.
I've noticed a cyclical pattern of user involvement. Right now, we're at a low spot because the tournaments that nobody actually cares about (Sorry guys) are happening.
If you just look at GSLs and MLGs, you'll see a lot more user involvement than if you look at IPLs and NASLs (although NASL season 1 did quite well).
Also, we've been a little quiet on the marketing front lately. It comes and goes. But if you like it, use it. Tell your friends. We don't have the funds to do any amount of real advertising [read: there are no funds]
It is not. Our format doesn't really work with something like that.
Yet.
There's a lot on the development plate, including adding a format for show matches, and one off games that people should see, but it is 3rd or 4th in line of things to add.
We have launched our Google Chrome Extension. You should take a look. Chrome Extension
This lets you rate matches, and see their ratings, from the page where the VOD is hosted. An account is required to rate matches, but not required to see the ratings. To rate matches, after downloading the extension, get your user token from your profile page and paste it into the chrome extension options
We have so much going on, so many things we want to do, but we just don't have the man power. If there are any designers or php developers out there that want to help us out, let me know
MLG Winter championship brackets are up! I'll do my best to update them live from MLG, but they'll be a little slow (due to technological difficulties )
Iron Squid is a great tournament with some excellent games that isn't getting enough attention - both in terms of people rating on SC2Ratings, and people watching. Production is high level, players are great, and the games have been amazing. Check it out.
Lastly, we will be at IPL4, hopefully doing live updates from the floor.
Updated the "recent matches" flow on the home page. Now you can see recent everything, or just recent matches from a specific tournament/league that's active. No more clicking through pages to find the most recent games for a particular league.
Also, bumped to last 35 matches, rather than last 20.
Pick between "all leagues" or whatever league is currently active.
yes, we could use some more votes. I'm delving into openauth (login with google/facebook) right now, so hopefully that'll open up the site to more people. The registration wall is always a problem. I don't know if I'll get it up in time for this weekend. Probably not, it's pretty crazy.
Well, looks like I will have it up. No promises, but things are looking good. If you haven't registered yet, hold off until tomorrow, so you can do it through openauth, unless you don't think you'll remember the matches in the morning, in which case, go ahead and do it now. I'll build a way for you to link your normal account and openauth account.
It is done! You can now log into SC2Ratings with your google, facebook, twitter, or openauth account. When twitch.tv releases their API, I'll try to do that too.
Now there's almost no barrier to entry to use SC2Ratings. RATING FOR EVERYBODY.

Yes.

For example I want to filter only the matches that are rated above 4.0 and were played in the last two weeks.
This is in the works actually. I just gotta find a free night to finish building it out. I'll PM you when it happens. Any other requests for searching / filtering?

For fans and researchers, it would be great to be able to filter by Player name. Say I wanna see Naniwas latest games because I'm the guy he faces in the GSL hohoho ^^ EDIT: oh, there's this option already, sry I discovered the site yesterday (altho the option to sort by date would come in handy here)
Also, a natural extension of that would be searching for games of certain Player vs certain race.
---
Another idea is that I may be struggleing in a certain matchup, and I want to see a Zerg player beat a Protoss. So I would search: 'Zerg' vs 'Protoss' + winner=zerg
--- Also, if you ever decide to move to a map-centric database (rather than a BestOf X one), it would be cool to be able to filter by map and maybe even game lenght. That way, combined with for example the winner feature, I would be able to find games on Antiga Shipyard where a Zerg beats a Protoss in a late game (a game longer than 25minutes).
I could probably go on if I keep thinking about this =)
Man, that's the dream. To be able to do all that. The only problem is we'd have to get all that information by hand, which would be HUGELY time consuming, and right now, we're all working on this while we have full time jobs or are full time students. It's something we've talked about, and we've looked into a way to crowd source some of it, but haven't found a reliable way yet
So, you can already do searches for PvZ or something of that nature. I hope that can hold you over while I implement a "winner race" search feature.
[EDIT]
Looking at the search function, we've changed some database structure to optimize things, but haven't reflected that in the code yet, so if we're going to be adding stuff to the search function, we might end up having to rewrite the whole thing to take advantage of the improved structure.
So, that said, it might be a while until these things make it into production, but I am working on it (when I can).
np don't sweat it, one step at a time, the site is already cool as it is, and the fact that you're still investing your passion into it can only mean good things for us the users
SC2Ratings will be doing some promotional give aways and contests pretty soon. We've got a bunch of these that we'll be giving away. http://imgur.com/03qda
Ok, here's our contest! Link to original reddit post (text from reddit post) Who: SC2Ratings is running this contest! You're entering it! Or you're not, in which case it's just us
What: Horribly complicated. You have to follow us on twitter, and tweet your favorite SC2 game at us
Where: Probably from your bedroom as you debate to yourself, "Should I even bother putting on pants today?", but we don't care how clothed you are, or from where you're tweeting. Actually, wait, we do care since we don't really have a budget for any of this. US, Canada and Mexico only This honestly does make us sad. Later (and better) contests will be open to the whole wide world...
When: Starting... ...wait for it... NOW. We'll pick the winner by Tuesday next week.
Why: [insert PR response that makes us sound like we're not doing this as a grab/stunt to drive traffic to our website]
How: So the details? Well, as I said before (were you even listening?), you need to follow us on twitter @SC2Ratings, and then tweet at us your favorite SC2 pro game in a format something like (but we honestly don't care that much): SlayerSBoxeR vs EGIdrA from MLG Orlando 2011 @SC2Ratings ♥♥
Ok, so the hearts are optional, but we appreciate them anyway.
As for how we'll pick the winners, well, we'll just make a list of everybody who tweeted at us, and pick two at random. Then we check to see if you're following us on twitter. If you are, you win! Then we DM you for your address and send you your GG button ASAP. If you'll be at MLG Anahiem, we can just give it to you there (and maybe pull some strings to get it signed for you if you want ). If you're not following us, well, we can't DM you (and don't like you) so we'll move on to the next person. Once all our winners are picked, we'll tweet about it, follow up with a reddit post, and crown you champions of Korhal*!
*Being crowned champion of Korhal comes with no benefits. In fact, we don't even have legal rights to use Korhal for anything, so let's keep this under the table, ok?
[EDIT] GGSwag has offered up 3 free shirts as well! Now we have 5 contest winners :D More contests to follow.
SC2Ratings is running another contest! We will have two winners. First place gets a GG button signed by Dustin Browder, second place gets an unsigned GG button.
How do you win one of these lovely buttons? All you must do is write a review of a game from this season of NASL and tweet us about it. All the NASL3 VODs are free, and can be found here.
Where do you write such a review? On http://www.sc2ratings.com of course! To write a review, just expand the match, and click "Write a review". (If you're scratching your head wondering how to expand a match... well, you see that little + on the left of the match listing? Click it. Click it hard). Then write your review.
So lets *review*: 1) Watch a match from NASL 3 (free). 2) Write a review of the match. 3) Follow and tweet @sc2ratings about the match in a format like such: Here's my review of IdrA vs Cruncher from @NASLtv season 3 http://www.sc2ratings.com/reviews.php?reviewId=3 @SC2Ratings 4) Next weekend, the SC2Ratings staff will get together, read all the reviews, and pick the winners.
EZ PZ.
If you have any questions, ask them here, or email us at SC2Ratings@gmail.com
Updated Search/Sort page. Searching for match ups by score or race should now be slightly faster. Also added ability to search by games played in the last X days.
1) Added winrate graphs 2) Removed a bug in the stats generator 3) Removed individual game listings as it was causing lag for players with a large number of games being played. If you still want all the games a player has played, you can do a search for that player on the search page. 4) Provided links to the seasons players play in so provide easy access now that individual games no longer show up.
1) Fixed Stats gathering 2) Updated player winrate graphs to display more information 3) Added WCS Korean Nationals 4) Inverted highlighted match hover-state. More colorful by default, and goes to blue scale on mouse-over.
Big update drop: Updated user point calculations Added comments for matches. All matches have comments enabled. Added Dreamhack Bucharest Added VODS for WCS Asia Added VODS for DreamHack Valencia Added GSL 15 Up and Down Added WCS Asia Added Dreamhack Valencia
Added a system for making announcements. Mostly this will be for posting a link to major live events when they're happening, or warnings of site downtime, etc. We'll be taking feedback as to if this is worth it or not.
Also added MLG fall. Will post the rest of the brackets as they get played. MLG Fall on SC2Ratings
This is a great website, as a busy college / working person, I always go to sc2ratings to see which games are worth watching. Some of the ratings are a little biased based on players, but for the most part it's really accurate. The more people that use it, the better the rating system will be. I recommend it!
Updates: Aside from new seasons (WCS, Dreamhack), we've made some slight modifications to the player information pages. When clicking on the season title for a player, the games they played pop up in a view, so you can see just the game they played. Clicking on the title within that view takes you to the full season page.
I haven't updated this thread in a while, but here's what's happened since the last update (each at their own time, not all at once) HomeStory Cup 6 Proleague Iron Squid 2 Blizzard Cup IPL5 BWC Dreamhack Winter GSL World Championship
Also, all the tournaments have up-to-date VODs, including last nights proleague.
HSC6 Day 2 VODs are up! There were pretty major steam issues, so many VODs are broken into chunks. Check the match comments for the next chunk of the VOD if it ends abruptly.
Added Korean VODs for Proleauge to the comment section of the 1st game in each Proleague series (for people that don't wanna watch the English VODs/can't watch on Twitch/ don't have a sub)
They are spoiler free and just have links to other stuff for matches without 7 games, but beware of spoilers in the other comments besides the one with the matches.
The last few days have seen a bunch of pretty minor updates that you probably didn't notice. Too numerous to mention, too minor to mention, but they're all helping to slightly improve your experience.
The one I do want to mention is the timezone fix. Now games are assigned a timezone, and you can rate matches at the start of the day for that timezone. Below for an example:
How it was before Proleague has their first set of games early in the day on the 5th and their second later in the day. Since they're 16 hours ahead, it's still the 4th where the server is located when they play their first games, and therefore you can't rate them (since it's not the 5th yet). Eventually the server catches up to the 5th, and you can rate the games that were played before and the games that are played later in the day.
How it is now Proleague has their first set of games early in the day on the 5th and their second later in the day. Proleague is set to the +16 hour timezone, so as soon as it becomes midnight on the 5th in Korea, the server counts it as the 5th for Proleague, and games can be rated (even if they haven't been played yet).
Ideally, you wouldn't be able to rate games until they've finished being played, but that requires far too much work, so we let games be rated as soon as it's the day games are to be played. Occasionally somebody accidentally rates a game that hasn't been played yet (miss click, or just being a dick), but these instances are few and far between. When we catch them, we remove the inappropriate rating.
This is a great website for VODs. Well done to everyone involved in putting it together and contributing to keeping it updated. It is a great resource for the community and deserves more recognition and acclaim.
TL should really do some sort of awards where community resources like this are showcased and highlighted and maybe even given 'awards' for their services to help support the SC2 community. Until then I will take this opportunity to say thanks to the team behind SC2Ratings.com. Great job, folks.
