SteelSeries as my main sponsor April 3rd, 2011 I’m really excited to share a major piece of news in my gaming career with all of you guys. Together with my wife I will be leading a new one-man team, “Team Grubby” if you will. As I apply and commit myself to StarCraft II, I will be supported in this by my main sponsor. SteelSeries has done a lot for eSports and thus its fans; sponsoring tournaments, teams and now their first individually sponsored player. With SteelSeries’ support, I can develop myself as a player, visit tournaments and support myself as a professional gamer. In a more direct way, I can continue to use the excellent gaming equipment that I’ve grown to love over the past years already. I use full SteelSeries gear for a few years already, and this has helped me to win dozens of tournaments, including the World Cyber Games, Electronic Sports World Cup, World eSports Masters, World Series of Video Games and BlizzCon. For more information on my exact gaming set-up, see the Q&A below. It’s been two and a half months since I started with Starcraft 2, and I’ve grown to love the game a lot. Improving day by day, I am motivated to grow as a player. I know it would be a big challenge to catch up with the other players who had been playing for a year already, but with your support, I feel that I could just be up to the task. I’m grateful to all my fans for choosing to follow me on my journey to be one of the top players in Europe. I will play hard and continue to bring you my best. I’ve gotten a round of questions already at MLG Dallas (my debut event as a solo player) and through Facebook & Twitter and so on, that I thought it’d be nice if I do some FAQ’s. Will you be joining a team? I am a one-man team for now, just like White-Ra. I’ve learned enough over the past 8 years that I’ve been doing pro-gaming to know how to manage most things myself. Of course, I will be aided by my wife (Cassandra) and some cool people I’ll be working with. The knowledge and experience of my sponsors, partners, people who have volunteered to help me and people I’ve hired to do things, will all help out in a big way. Without team mates, how are you going to train? I will continue to train as I always have. Training on ladder; training with friends and practice partners; and by myself. ![[image loading]](http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj3bsm3QC01qfcphw.jpg) Grubby with his friend, TLO Are there any other players maybe going to join the Grubby team? It would have to be a mannered, professional, talented and hard-working player. I’d love to give such a player a chance to develop himself with proper support and guidance if the time is right for it. Will you be looking for any more sponsors? Yes. Getting more sponsors would provide me with the chance to visit more events, be a professional gamer for longer, do more activities or projects for the fans and maybe even allow me to support other talented gamers with sponsorship. ![[image loading]](http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj3bydJgWq1qfcphw.jpg) Grubby taking pictures with his fans. How will you going solo affect the amount of tournaments you visit in the future? Starting up for myself could of course be challenging in the start. I have one great sponsor and a few partners already. I’ll continue to work hard both in the game and outside so that I could land more sponsorships. This would help me to travel to the awesome tournaments around the globe. What’s your current set-up for gaming? I’m using the SteelSeries Ikari Laser on their 5L semi-hard semi-soft mouse pad, the 6Gv2 mechanical keyboard and the 7H headset (I choose the provided leather ear cups for sound isolation). Will we be able to see you streaming again any time soon? Once I get back to the Netherlands (April 6th), I’d love to enjoy the company of my fans through my streaming once again. It’s great to chat in between games and have an audience spectate as I attempt to get into Grandmasters League, train and have fun. A bunch of people came up to me at MLG to say how much they enjoyed my stream. I’m glad you feel the same way as me about it! :p So see you guys soon on my stream. You have a really cool Jersey! Is there any way for fans to order shirts just like it? ![[image loading]](http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj3a8g0tUK1qfcphw.jpg) Grubby competing at his first big SC2 tournament, MLG Dallas. ![[image loading]](http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj3aml3yCK1qfcphw.jpg) Grubby gaining tournament experience at MLG Dallas, 1st - 3rd April 2011 Thanks, glad you like it! I developed it together with Enuzi Clothing, one of my partners. It was supposed to be something that’s comfortable and looks good, and I’m really happy with it. I plan to offer the same jersey to fans in the future; coming soon! Before then, there’ll be a contest on my Facebook page where two participants will be able to obtain an exclusive autographed Grubby jersey. To enter the contest and have a chance to win, just become a fan of the Grubby page and follow the contest rules. Two lucky winners will be chosen. ![[image loading]](http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj3bcfqSWx1qfcphw.jpg) Autographed Grubby Jersey. ![[image loading]](http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj3bfrkUHU1qfcphw.jpg) Grubby jerseys give-aways at Grubby Facebook page. This is pretty exciting? Will WC3 consolidate completely to SC2 before BW?

Grubby and his wife. Dude's a nerd baller.
Pretty cool. Good luck to him.
So like slayersboxer? Anyway I think he will prove himself in the NASL. Grubby fighting!
grubby got huge gums, gl with that team.
Awesome, Grubby seams nice and is knowledgeable enough to run a team. Can't wait to see where it goes.
What if you don't have facebook?
Given cassandra is involved in his work, and she is an esport manager, it makes a lot of sense that he should either find a team where she has a role (like wc3 division of EG) or make a new team where she can run it.
Makes his leaving EG understandable, had to keep domestic harmony
Grats to grubby! Awesome player with an awesome attitude. I wish him as much success in sc2 as he had in wc3!!
he certainly has a lot of influence in the wc3 world. i could see him flying solo as a one man team for a while until things come together though.
GL Grubby! Will always be a fan!

great news!!! love that jersey!
Grubby is a one man army .
Oh God!!! This is so sick!!! It all makes sense now. (Leaving EG that is). I really want one of those jerseys!! Also, website is hilarious.
Yay, congrats Grubby. Your stream always rocks and in no doubt you will have plenty of success.
Good luck in the future!
Definitely going to be tuning in to his stream!
hes such a nice person - im happy for him
Who does he think he is The emperor Slayers`Boxer?
Best of luck
I am very happy for Grubby, although I hated him every time he won over Moon or Insomnia :D. It's all in the past though, so good luck Grubby, all the best to you and your family.

Awesome news. Best of luck to Grubby and his wife!

If by team you mean he is a one man team... okey. More like Grubby Ridin Solo!
i have a serious man crush on this guy i cant wait to see him in more sc2 stuff plus he has a awesome stream!
Awesome news!
Hoping for grubby to form a full Grubby team, kinda like what boxer did with slayers
I'm afraid he will fail horribly. He is not White-ra.
edit: So 1 man team is ok for NASL? LOL.
Awesome news
I want that Jersey, looks pretty sweet
Great news, best of luck to Grubby! Hope to see more of his games.
I always loved him while playing war 3. He was just such an awesome player (and the only one who really could bring down moon . . .). Hope for the best. GLGL

He has more WC3 success than WhiteRa has BW success lol, you can't compare the two obviously but Grubby is a very good very solid player and his potential to be at the top is very high.
Fantastic! You can't have a big name like Grubby and go teamless for very long! Can't wait to read more news about this. Congratulations Grubby.
wait so he is not playing wc3 anymore?

Creo quit after he won WCG (or ESWC or whatever it was), he did a quick comeback for WEM in China last year without having played at all since his last event. I think he took a couple of games off of some of the best players around even in 2010..
.. however he said he isn't coming back to the eSport scene
I am so happy for grubby, he is such a nice person. One of my friends played ladder with him back in the wc3 days and told me great stories about how nice he is and talented.
It is crazy that he has come this far with only 2½ month of sc2 gaming. He will be a beast soon if he continues !
cool news. Glad some players are starting to do individual sponsors and such. I think it makes more sense for SC2 tbh.
how long ago did he leave EG?
nice news!
i see a bright future for grubby in sc2
Man, first ROOT shaping it up and now this. Nothing could make me more happy as a fan. Good luck to Grubby, it's really fun seeing him progress and go to the top of sc2. And it's fun watching him even though he isn't there just yet.
The website is witty, too.
I wish him the best!
His head is huge in the picture with fans, and I love how whenever he is playing his mouth is slightly open rofl.
Anyway I really hope he picks up some more players onto his team, would be cool if he does a BoxeR like thing.
Been watching quite a bit of Grubby's stream recently and really become a fan of the guy. He seems to be improving so much and is such a manner guy, cannot help but root for him and his team in the future.
GL Grubby
This is some GREAT News! Congratulations to Grubby getting his own sponsorship, I wish you best of luck in your sc2 career, I'll be right there cheering you on.
Warmest Regards, Phil
I'm interested to see where this goes. It's cool that he already has a sponsor.
Great news.
I used to follow WC3 scene a lot, and I can say this guy was truly revolutionary. I remember all the whinings from Orc players back when Orc was considered underpowered, and then he elevated the race to the point of almost overpowered. I daresay what he did is comparable to Boxer's feats with Terran, or Savior's feats with Zerg.
grubby is the only player who is progressing at what I would call a scary pace. Watch out for this guy
Is it just me ... or does he look like he has a massive head in those photos? In proportion to his whole body I mean

Im not sure if he just left EG, but it was pretty recent that EG disbanded their War3 division
Hope they don't bring the Blademaster to SC2. This guy would steamroll everyone =D
Grubby should be like Boxer! Recruit the most badass no-names in the talent pool and stomp everyone. Boxer did it twice, Grubby can definitely do it once.
Btw once they implement the ability to chronoboost your DTs in Legacy of the Void Grubby will have his blademaster.
I love this idea by grubby! I hope his team does really well and they get more sponsorships, he deserves them. Gl to you grubby and looking forward to see you at more events!
I'm really happy for Grubby, I wasn't really a fan of his until I watched that documentary about him. I don't know the link... But, after watching that, he really seems like a very down to earth, very nice guy. I wish him all the best.
I think it would be better if he stayed in EG for a while? I think the team can improve Grubby seeing how much potential he have. A one man team is a little strange considering he just started SC2. White-ra isn't the same since he played BW and been playing sc2 since beta. But GL and best wishes to Grubby
I think Grubby should focus on his own play before anything else. He's living entirely off his WC3 hype. In the time it takes to find new players and manage a new team, he could be the next MC. I don't think both things can happen at once.
The shirt looks so much better long sleeved :o
dang, who will be the lucky person who gets to be on team grubby one day?
i wanna be on team grubby :O

Pretty awesome to hear. Only two and a half months with the game, and he did decently well in MLG Dallas. I can't wait to see how much he progresses in the future.

Yes, he's forming a team, but it's just him on the team. He won't be searching for players (at least not yet). Management might take up some time, but I'm sure he'll do fine with finding time to practice.
it makes alot of sense for him to find his own sponsors. Doing it this way he can make his own schedule and alot of sponsors would be happy to have him, his fanbase is huge. The team aspect is something for cassandra to do i bet. She can run the team while he practices, they are probably very happy with this setup.
Good luck Grubby and Cassandra, best of luck to you.

ToD's in [M]. FuRy is playing but I don't know the team.

This is interesting news too say the least. I won't lie and say it will not work out but if he manages to train like War3 days we might see some awesome stuff. Just hoping he gets some nice trainig partners and shows us some nice games and attends a lot more events and wins some of them hopefully.

I dont realy understand why EG decided to let him go instead of switching him to their sc2 team. Makes no sense to me.
What exactly constitutes a team? Sponsorship? What's the difference between him being teamless and sponsored and team(-full? lol) and sponsored? In the other thread people seemed happy to call him teamless even when it was brough up that he still had sponsors.
Maybe it's just semantics and I'm reading to much into it lol.

Im sure grubby has practice partners up the wazoo, he is grubby after all. Alot of contacts.. what else can a team give? A team house would be ideal for sure but that wasnt going to happen anyway, not to mention he has a wife so I doubt he would like to move into a team house.

Haha, I sincerely doubt that ;P
for people who are wondering whats up with the rest of 4K,
-ToD is playing for Millennium, even won 2 tournametns last month ( vs Adellscott in the final on lan and beat Mana 3-0 in the Millenium cup ), rapidly making its way to atleast top 5 Toss Europe. -Fury is playing for RG, Fury is quite a good Terran but unfortunately didnt have that much luck yet on his side tournament Wise. -Creo Just studying, indeed went inactive after Winning WCG ( actually went inactive after 2nd place of eswc and winning blizzcon, then qualified while being inactive for WCG since the Norwegian scene wasnt that great, practised 1 week and won WCG, still my favorite E-sport story of all time, just to go inactive again, sick baller, hero forever. ) -LiiLDC Is playing a little bit of StarCraft II but nothing serious on a competitive level, atleast not yet, he's a _very_ good Handball player, playing quite close to the Swedish top so I can understand if he wants to give that a go, certainly cause Handball is quite a big thing in Sverige! -Zeus Not doing anything within E-sports actively, still have contact with him though, great guy ;p, his life took quite a switch but I'm not here to throw out his private life :D -Demuslim Guess we all know that -FoV Living the good life in Asia, not really playing sc II.
Ontopic, gl to grubs :D just a matter of time before he will be succesfull. But being as succesfull as in Wc3 is gonna be close to impossible.

Bleh. Team sounds nice, but living on top of each other day after day. That is not for everyone. Grubby has his own home and family, something Mc does not. Grubby is a huge name, he probably have contacts, and who doesn't want to practise with someone as insightful, kind and smart as Grubby?

Unless you have a team house, being with a team or alone as Grubby isn't that big of a difference. I've followed some pros (Morrow for instance) and if you look at their match history (custom games) you see that they practise against many other top players that aren't on their team. In fact some play quite rarely with their teammates. I agree better and more practise is needed for many players to get better, but as the pro gaming scene looks right now in the foreign community, I think having sponsors that let you spend more time practising and allowing you to go to different events are more important than being in a team with other players. It's not like Grubby won't have a lot of players to play with.

Is it just me or does he have a long head? xD Very handsome anyhow, of course. The rise of Slayers in the west. I guess he'll start scoopin up prospects from all over Europe and NA and start destroying the best western teams in clan wars!

I just read that in entirely your voice.

This happens to me with all of Rotterdam's posts, haha.
On a side note: I met LiilDC on ladder once and lost in a close game but that was some months ago so I don't know how good he is right now.

Omg I saw TLO in there and stopped reading further :D

MC said, no matter how good a ex-WC3 player used to be, they still can't beat him in SC2.
Cool news, Grubby is far and away my favorite toss player to watch even if he's not on top yet; the way he thinks about the game is unique and interesting to spectate, much like TLO.
this will be great once he gets a lot better. He will be one of the top players I am sure.
Wonder if and when he will start getting new members?

This is probably the one you're looking for.

Grubby makes his team ?
Great, whenever you'll see the team's name on a replay, you can skip it entirely since you'll already know it will involve a 30 minutes 2 base camping match and a coin-flip 1a mass superunits battle.

lol. what does that have to do with anything? i won't be surprised if grubby goes beyond MC's level sometime in the next few months.
Well, let's hope he will recruit other players to his team, because as Korea shows, nothing beats practicing in a team house.

To all the naysayers: do you even realize how successful this guy is? WC3 accomplishments vs BW accomplishments, he crushes almost everything in terms of wins, money won, etc.
Awesome to have my favourite game and my (old) favourite player joining forces!
Now, if he only played zerg... though I suppose zealots are closer to grunts - can't wait to see some INSANE micro :D

so happy for grubby, i want that jersey >:O

Moon has better achievements but hasn't been anything special. I only see hype. People have even said that his performance in MLG was great. The first player that mattered beat him easily. There have been people who have done much better with two and a half months of practise. Now, what will become of him remains to be seen. Can he become something great? Sure. But his performance so far hasn't been anything impressive*.
* Of course it is very impressive in the sense that 99.9% of people could not pull that off. But I would expect not much less from anyone who has been a top player in a similar game.

Good to see how things turned out after EG. That jersey looks so good on him too, do want @_@

Really rooting for Grubby. Seems like a great guy with an even better attitude. Good luck!

moon doesn't have better wc3 achievements then grubby, at least they are equals

Intel is the team sponsor. Razer is a personal sponsorship (technically). Correct me if I'm wrong.

Congrats to Grubby. Awesome guy :D Can't wait to meet you at MLGs.
