Any player good enough would be at least on some kind of team I guess, so that doesn't seem like a big constraint.

I hope team houses start popping up all over California. Team EG did say they were getting a team house so it might be the first of many.

So that they're closer for the event in Cali that happens three times a year? I'm all for team houses, but a mostly online tournament doesn't really propel them being established.

Well, a teamhouse is not just convenient for going to local lans but also is good for training purposes. That's one of the biggest reasons everyone says for the skill disparity. They live in a SC environment 24/7 in a team house, they train harder, think more, and get better quicker because of it.

Hence why I said I'm all for team houses...

From what I gather from the G4TV interview, much about this league seems to be in an early stage of planning, full of insecurity and unpolished ideas. It could be incredibly great, but it could also be a huge fiasco. Tonight's showmatch didn't give me much confidence, although it was a start.

By the way, I'm sure it's explained somewhere, but who is sponsoring this? 400,000$ is an assload of money.

I disagree. from that interview it felt like theres been a ton of planning, but the difficulty that lies ahead is the execution of these plans. Tonights show match was kind of like a test run. I'm sure they'll be improve significantly, but I do not doubt there will be issues ahead.

as for the sponsor, it seems like its been funded by russ and duncan themselves. also read a post that said something about being insured by blizzard. i'd like to hear more about this myself.

Big fan of everything but Gretorp casting. I know he tries and all that, but he mispeaks and stutters too much to be a caster for such a professional event. There are many more qualified casters available that would do a much better job casting this event. I'd much rather incontrol solo it than listen to Gretorps casting. I think if you're trying to sell your product to the community you need to find someone better than a Gretorp to be co casting.

Well if we're trying to be like the GSL... =P

Question: Is Destiny even on a team? Is he available to fly to the finals? He may be #5 on the list right now but may not even be able to play at all.

These votes are just recommendations from us, the community for the organisers to look at. They'll go "huh, look at that, this Destiny guy seems pretty popular - let's see if he satisfies our standards and belongs to the 50 best applicants".

Then they'll see that he's
- not on a team
- has no tournament wins
- has had no significant presence at any LAN whatsoever
- is not even in the Top 100 of his server

Then they'll all have a hearty laugh and look at the guy with the next most votes. Fairly certain someone like Destiny (or Husky, or HD, or any other scene personality) could be ahead by 10,000 votes and wouldn't get invited.

That's exactly what I was wondering. Thank you

I don't really understand why Day9 wouldn't be a featured caster in this. I'm actually entirely confused to the point where my brain is about to stop working.
He lives in Cali
He is The biggest Scene contributor
Casted at MULTIPLE sc Events
Has a brother who casts Professionally in Korea
Taking a year off to focus entirely on SC.. <--- or longer? unsure
So my question here is. Why is he not going to be a featured caster.
Its kind of like Having a boxer interview... without boxer. I would really really like to hear why he wasn't chosen. From him or someone else.

In the interview incontrol explained that day9 was too busy to commit to that much casting.

Pretty sure that's it. I think Day9 is graduating this May so he probably wants to get that done first.

Asking a question is one thing - you were making a case for him instead. About 5 people within a minute told you to look at the interview.

But, we're going to do the best with what we have, and the idea is to crown a world champion. To find the best player in the whole world, and to the best of our abilities we're going to do that.

It's a North American tournament, not a world tournament. Sure there will be a few people flying in from Europe, Korea and possibly smaller locations like South America/SEA, but people in other countries are going to find it difficult to drop their lives and fly to the US to play in the finals. When you're saying things like "We're going to limit the number of Koreans to 5", you can't then say you're determining the greatest player in the world.
What I'd love to see is something like this in each region. Then at the end of every year have a showdown between the best of NASL, the best of GSL etc.

Please read closer before spouting stuff.

You are wrong.

Care to clarify where I was wrong? You said yourself that there are issues for people playing outside of the US (latency, timezones, having to fly to the US for finals), and these would have a noticeable impact on their performance. While this format is definitely more open for 'foreigners' than the GSL, and I applaud you for that, it's still heavily catered for those in the US.

For the record I think this is absolutely awesome, and wish you and the team all the best. Will definitely be getting a premium subscription.

Yea, I'll never really understand some people's obessions with GSL and Korean sc players. Wouldn't you be more excited for a league that caters to your countrymen? Sure Koreans are great at sc, but they also sit in an apartment and play it 12 hours a day as a job. Its a different culture, lets try to grow OUR esports culture. Not quite so military in our training, but still fun as hell to watch/follow.

yes, ignorance for the majority of the time draws emotional conclusions that can sometimes be void of logic. However can you also understand from my perspective that seeing the biggest sc2 tourney is not going to be including day9 despite being from california and being more involved with the community then anyone else. It just seemed odd

We have already said the tourney will be open to players from korea, europe, SA etc.

Given the logistics we have we are proud to say that we are pursuing a world champion. If you want to contest that claim please look to the International Courts of The Internet or the ICI and make a claim that we are wrongfully creating an arbitrary title.

Oh and when you are done stfu and enjoy the league
