But in all seriousness, playing on a ladder and playing with a practice partner are two completely different experiences. It may be true that while practicing with a partner, you may face different styles or patterns than if you played on ladder. Also, playing on ladder is dependent on waiting for other people / scheduling - while you can play on ladder at any time.

If you don't want to tank your ladder, playing against practice partners and friends is the intelligent thing to do. Once you have control over the new race you are playing you can start playing for fun. Is winging it on SC considered fun? Maybe that's the part of my brain that is missing.

this is pretty great to have

I would love to be able to do some laddering with zerg without losing 30 games in a row, but I seriously doubt blizzard would do this. It would actually be a considerate thing to do for the consumer, and bad for them in terms of making the most money possible.
|
I hope they do this, I have been asking for it since day 1. This past week I have been trying to learn Protoss, after about 75 or so custom games I finally jumped onto the ladder. I would have loved playing as toss against plat or so level players so I could gradually work up my protoss ability. Instead I did customs and placed a few masters, few plats, and a huge chunk of gold and below. I really didn't know if I was getting "better" or if I just was beating players who just didn't play very well.
With 2 accounts I wont have to lose 20 games in a row with an offrace before I start winning again. Then the process repeat itself when I switch races again.
|
I completely second IndieFinch, I'm a Protoss player who would really love to become better at zerg, but would get crushed any game I tried on ladder. And tanking my mmr/rating doesn't sound like a whole bunch of fun to me.

This would be awesome, having an account just to test out builds in a real match situation whenever you want or just to try an off race out would be so useful.

In bw you could have as many accounts as you wanted, and that was great. The only reason this system wasn't carried over is to force people to buy additional copies of SC2 just for additional practice accounts - and this is ridiculous money grabbing from Activision Blizzard. This (along with no lan and no cross region play) are the three biggest problems with SC2 right now IMO.
I hope to god they will fix all of them, starting with this one. things have changed since then, play customs or buy a second account if you want the luxuries of having 2 accounts.

yea after installing the PTR it carried over to your regular starcraft2

This would just cause trolls to lurk around the entire game without facing any consequences... leaving custom games... alot of exploits.. etc This sounds exactly like something Blizzard would say. Having one extra character can only bring good. People want to be able to play as an off race and not ruin their mmr trying to learn it. It's not like just because you have an extra account you are going to log onto it and troll everyone you see. Even if that is the case, what of it? There are trolls in every game, more options for players who actually want it won't change that fact one way or another. And as for the statement "trolls will lurk around without facing any consequences", for one blizzard would see the two accounts as one, so if you get banned on one i'm sure you would be banned on the other. So if you see someone trolling or being a dick, report them. Problem solved, and the people who want an extra account are happy. More options = good. But Blizzard seems to only look at the very few negatives that may exist. If your willing to give people on the internet multiple masks to hide under, as suppose to your real true face, then that alone creates room for negativity within the game. So its better not to create any oppertunity for such events to take place... This discussion should really end here.... Blizzard wont implement it, and theres definetly not one good benefit from doing so.
Wow... I can't believe people can get away with such flawed logic like this and not get banned (I'm obviously exaggerating but you get the point).
You know what... I agree. There is a negative side to having multiple accounts so we shouldn't have it. While we're on the topic, causing everyone to go to a public school leads to some bullying; that's a bad thing so we shouldn't have it. Driving a car leads to car accidents, we should walk everywhere. Just kidding, walking also leads to tripping and getting injured, let's not allow that. Don't even get me started on food, people choke and die on that stuff... let's ban it.
You can't seriously think dismissing something because of one negative aspect (which applies to significantly less people than the amount of people the good aspect affects) is a sound argument. You know, I may have honestly just shrugged it off because I see this kind of stupidity all the time, but saying "This discussion should really end here...." sealed the deal. You were basically saying "Come on guys... this is a no brainer, I am clearly right" with such terrible logic.
By the way, I am not saying having multiple accounts NEEDS to be implemented and it is nothing but good, but I definitely won't say "please, it clearly benefits more people... this discussion is over." You're a joke.

This would be great.
I wish pokemon games had two save files... but that's a story for another day

wth... i can certainly play SC1 in SC2? is the graphic of SC1 ganna be good like SC2 as well?

I dont like wasting my time off racing in customs and either noob stomping and getting thwomped. This is why having a second ladder account would be great. besides, the ladder system puts you at a reasonable skill level quick enough so you arent going to have 800 million smurf account noob stomping in bronze.

This would be both awesome and awful at the same time. On the one hand, my Z is at master level, my toss is probably mid diamond and my terran is probably very, very low diamond. If I tried to play T or P on ladder I would get dominated back into diamond. That being said, I would love to have another account to practice T/P on.
However, a lot of people will abuse this (abuse is a relative term here). By abuse, I mean they will use one of their accounts to try "new builds" and by new I mean absolutely terrible. If you make it easy for people to have another account and troll the ladder with their straight tech to mothership builds, it sort of lowers the integrity of the ladder (IMO). No matter what level of ladder you're playing at now, it's a pretty safe assumption that the other guy is at least trying to win. Given a second account, I don't think you can say that. I'm sure a ton of people will purposely lower than second account to bronze so they can do stupid things and still steamroll people. On the road to getting down to bronze, they'll probably promote 8 kids to silver that didn't earn it.

I was recently given a second account so I decided to play one of my off races. I am a master level player and I have been playing sc since 98, so I have the grasp of all races.I dont play to often anymore and even lost my 5th placement match putting me into gold. I started to play diamond at game 10, and #1-2 diamond/masters at game 12 and around game 15 2500+ masters almost everygame.
I know most of this prolly doesn't mean much, but one of the cheif complaints is, people will test new builds while noob bashing. Well there isnt much noob bashing going on in 15 games so I really don't see this as being a problem at all. I hope blizzard impliments this, it would be good for the game and get some people who burn out easy a chance at other races and to enjoy starcraft to the fullest.
|
I really hope it's multiple servers. They can't honestly expect people to shell out $360 for one game(after all xpacs have been released) just to play on one other server.

Im stating this as a fact like hitler and the holocaust. we've seen this happen, giving people multiple faces on the INTERNET often than not creates room for negativity. It is a fact more or less. You compared my logic with walking. How stupid can you be? You comparing a fraction of winning a lottery vs a fraction of you seeing a troll on the internet. Dont come here blatantly trying to insult my logic if you dont have one yourself.

If this stays in the game when the patch goes live, I will finally be able to play in the ladder with other races without fear! Who knows, one might end up with an account in Gold for the inexperienced race and one in Masters with the race hat you are used to playing! Now, the only problem I see is for tournaments that are restricted to your league level. There is always that Diamond player who wanta to participate on a gold or lower tournament just to feel he is amazing sine he will end up winning all the games... Still, I am looking forward to this if it indeed does stay!!! :D

I want a smurf account too! Why won't blizzard allow me to noob bash? Q.Q
Seriously though, I would love to have a second account i don't care about and just use to dick around on bnet. I've even considered buying a used one to do this with.
